[1998-01-14-WAR] Genichiro Tenryu vs Nobutaka Araya
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Araya was completely dominating Tenryu to start the match. Tenryu does some chair throwing to help turn things around. Then he gets in his trademark stiff strikes. Okay match but Tenryu did not seem himself for good parts of it. The title around Tenryu’s waste looks tiny compared to his big tights.- 12 replies

They are trying to do the actual Royal Rumble drawing in the ring with all of the wrestlers. Hate when they give what spots guys drew before the Rumble. Obviously with all these guys in the ring it quickly escalates into a big brawl. Nation and Vega ambush Austin at the ramp. Garea was doing the worst job trying to break things up in the ring. It was funny to see Kurrgan getting in Tony’s face and threatening him.

[1998-01-12-WWF-Raw] DX, The Undertaker and Kane
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Michaels introduces Kane as the newest member of DX. Undertaker comes out instead. Taker wants to talk instead and asks that Michaels leave his family out of it. DX attacks Undertaker but Kane makes the save. Would have been a massive pop if Taker had chokeslammed Chyna. Crowd loved it big when Kane did Undertaker’s pose and Taker responding the same. -
[1998-01-12-WWF-Raw] Dude Lovedust, Mankind and Steve Austin
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Dudedust with the padded ass to make it look bigger. Thought we need more of a camera zoom on Mankind's face to get his reaction to it. Another really quick match as Austin comes down and delivers a couple of Stunners. Not much time on these TV matches so far. -
Some more clips of Japan of Cactus and Funk beating each other up. Cactus walks on a football field with no shoes/socks. Funk coming to the ring on a horse is a cool entrance. Not sure why he did not go by just Terry Funk once the full revealed who he was.

Big rumors of Hogan possibly showing up at Rumble. Can totally remember watching this at the time and wondering what the hell this is about. Clever Hogan. Part of me thinks WWE had no interest in Hogan and was just dropping hints on hotline to drive up the price for what WCW would have to pay.

[1998-01-12-WWF-Raw] Interview: Steve Austin / Steve Austin on MTV
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
I wonder what happened to this Austin truck. They give it away. Is it like sitting in someone’s garage or did they drive it around all the time. Be something to still see it on the road. Amused that when Austin talks he holds up Cole’s hand with mic. -
We got a cross promotional angle going against Bret Hart’s line. I think he misses Bret as cannot be talking legit crap about Undertaker. Ever dignified Shawn moons folks outside the limo.

[1998-01-12-WCW-Nitro] Scott Hall & Kevin Nash vs Rick & Scott Steiner
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
DiBiase takes a bump on the floor. They tease that Savage really meant to hit the elbow on Nash instead of Rick Steiner. Hogan plays peachmaker between Savage and Nash but we are getting our friction in the group. Title change was barely the story as was more about issues with Savage and Nash.- 5 replies

[1998-01-12-WCW-Nitro] Jim Neidhart and Ric Flair
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Neidhart has joined up in WCW and was disturbed by Flair’s comments about Bret. Both Ric and Anvil are ready to settle things in the ring. Flair makes easy work out of Neidhart and puts on the ring post figure four! Flair should have spray painted WWF on Anvil and sent him back. They way Bret runs it looks like he could easy hurt himself. Flair is the one that trips though outside the ring when doing a retreat.- 8 replies

Announcers were talking more about Hogan. Jericho eats another loss. Post match promo where Jericho calls Mongo an inferior opponent. He promises again he will never lose his cool again. But then he attacks Misterio who is getting ready for a match. Juvi wins quickly. Kind of a waste.

Flynn got to hang a bit with Goldberg on the ground. When it got standing he fired off a few kicks but was done in by Goldberg’s power stuff. Big pop from crowd. Goldberg's style was perfect for TV.

[1998-01-12-WCW-Nitro] Interview: Hulk Hogan & Kevin Nash
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Hogan doesn’t want to talk about family issues with Savage. He is more concerned about his belt. That will explain why group did not last much longer as a whole. Nash has words for Savage.- 6 replies

[1998-01-10-ECW-House Party] The Sandman vs Sabu (Stairway To Hell)
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Ladder suplex by Sandman is a great little spot. Great accuracy on that one. The leg drop on to the propped up ladder looked vicious. I thought Sandman was going to land on his head when getting dumped off the ladder to tables below. He just turned his body enough at the last moment. He is up quickly though. Sabu is a mess with his jaw. Sandman does not look good himself. As impressive as the spots were and the violence in it, the ECW fans weren’t as vocal as you would think.- 12 replies

[1998-01-10-ECW-House Party] Rob Van Dam vs Bam Bam Bigelow
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Glad you mentioned the RVD sell of rubbing his forehead. Did feel comedic. They got really enamored with that guardrails in this match. Repeated use of guys spilling over them. Nice camera angle of Van Dam soaring off the top ropes on to Bigelow. Not sure what was going on with that senton by Bigelow. RVD may have rolled the wrong way. Things start to break down. RVD went flying into the crowd. Hope those fans were prepared. Sunny actual does something wrestling related since WWF has her just posing for merchandise. Francine was wearing next to nothing to cover her back. Yeah, mess indeed. I’m interesting to see their April match cause I always liked that one. Lets see how that holds up.- 8 replies

[1998-01-10-ECW-House Party] Justin Credible vs Great Sasuke
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Nicole Bass gets the Andre, Undertaker, Big Show treatment from Joey Styles on how you have to buy a ticket to see them in person. Jason and Nicole share a big kiss. She seemed to like doing that. Sasuke gets his big dives in early with him having to sell the leg later on. Credible does the right thing by working the leg and keep Sasuke grounded for much of the rest of match. Sasuke still tries for aerial moves but damage has done. Credible wins clean but little reaction from crowd when match was over. ECW is determined to push Credible.- 9 replies

The hook for folks to tune in for first episode of Thunder. Sting looks bad again getting pinned with a roll up on another normal count. Original referee recovers and match resumes with Sting getting Scorpion Death Lock. Bischoff beats up Dillon. Damn if JJ has looked awful these past months. Big brawl at the end with WCW finally ganging up to team against NWO. Back to live show. Dillon and executive board have held up title and made it vacant. This makes no sense. Wasn’t Patrick booted as a referee? How would his involvement in the Nitro match matter. Sting to Dillon, “You have no guts.” I think I have my new drinking game for 98. JJ looking like a fool.

[1998-01-08-WCW-Thunder] Bret Hart and Ric Flair
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Bret is sporting the least amount of grease in his hair. Crowd did not care much for Hart mentioning he was former five time WWF champion. There is definitely a spark in Ric for this. Just see it in his face. -
[1998-01-08-WCW-Thunder] Ultimo Dragon vs Juventud Guerrera
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Poor guy probably had his dog get run over by a car too. No reaction for Juvi Driver at this point. -
[1998-01-08-WCW-Thunder] Scott Hall vs Ray Traylor
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Larry comes out to distract Hall. Scott ends up walking into a Big Boss Slam. Traylor with an upset win. Quiet crowd overall. -
[1998-01-08-WCW-Thunder] Interview: Larry Zbyszko
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Looks like someone rode over his shirt with a bicycle and left a tire mark. Larry gets in his standard retiring Bruno comment. Zbyszko mentions some of his accomplishments and how he has done a lot more than Scott Hall. -
[1998-01-08-WCW-Thunder] J.J. Dillon and Lex Luger
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Dillon decides to reverse a decision in favor of NWO. Luger is not pleased and punks out Dillon for being useless as authority figure for WCW the past year. Agreed.
