Hogan has some fun with mimicking Nick Patrick’s count from Starrcade. Bischoff proclaims Hogan to still be World Heavyweight champion. Hogan steals Bret Hart’s line to try make sure he is the greatest and not Flair or Hart. Hogan mentions he just just too damn tanned and poses.

WCW adds a second live show. Thunder was never really part of my viewing schedule. That set looks bad.

[1998-01-06-FMW-New Year Generation] Masato Tanaka vs Mr Gannosuke
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Their "filler" or mat work to start match consists of Gannosuke just mauling Tanaka. There was little give on that power bomb Tanaka took on the floor. Just ouch. The Gannosuke starts tearing him apart with a broken stick handle. After the heaving brawling it then moves into mostly wrestling moves in the ring. But it is still intense with the big moves back and forth. I really liked the finish with Gannosuke getting the funky roll up for pin on a weakened Tanaka.- 18 replies

[1998-01-05-WWF-Raw] Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Michaels is not too scared about having to face Undertaker in a Casket Match. Well, Taker does not have exactly a perfect record in that type of match. Shawn still has his female fans in audience. -
[1998-01-05-WWF-Raw] Mike Tyson announcement and feature / Don King promo
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Don King hypes up Tyson being involved at WrestleMania but the negotiations are still ongoing. Him and McMahon will get a deal done though and Don will see us all at WrestleMania. I think he was ditched by Tyson shortly after this. -
[1998-01-05-WWF-Raw] New Age Outlaws vs Headbangers
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Headbangers haven't been too successful against DX and Outlaws. Can't believe they let Funk have a chainsaw. -
Jim Ross giving us the whole psychological analysis of Goldust for all these antics. Piper is probably jealous of this blackface. Vader dancing afterwords was something to see. Glad match with him and Goldust at Rumble made set. Wish we got more from Funk in his WWF run.

Austin has heard about the WWE locker room looking to take him out leading up the Rumble. Continuation of Steve versus everyone and he has no friends.

Thought we would get a few more minutes out of this one. In the end felt more like continuing an angle than an actual match with DDP getting a quick victory. This was period where I really warmed up to Jericho. And yeah Soup, I always wondered why WCW didn't have a PPV in front of a big crowd. Starrcade 97 would have been an obvious choice since Hogan/Sting was booked so far in advance.

Cue that thread on this board. I know the whole of WCW should not be feuding with just the NWO but I found it strange at the time that these guys went into feuding with one another since they each just had issues with NWO. Flair looked like he had the swagger back though after being beat down the previous years in WCW. He definitely had the chip on his shoulder about being the best in the ring when it comes to anyone but especially Hart. Ric telling Bret to say that thing Hart always says about being the best to his face. Bret obliges with a smirk on his face. Pretty fun interaction. Oh yeah, Hart's WCW theme music was awful.

[1998-01-04-NJPW-Final Power Hall in Tokyo Dome] Naoya Ogawa vs Don Frye
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
I hate this and at the thought of what I am probably going to have endure through for future NJPW matches on yearbooks. As wrestling match it sucks. Ogawa is just tossing Frye around. Frye looks totally spent. Maybe legit gassed. Then Frye counters with some punches and gets a choke in.- 9 replies

Dragon almost hit face first on the ring apron on the moonsault off the turnbuckle to the outside. First half wasn't too engaging but they did hook me for the latter part. Was enjoying the La Magistral by Dragon on how it was probably getting the biggest reaction out of the crowd during match. Dragon threw all his finishers at Otani. Some really good close pinfall attempts. I like Otani getting all fired up and pumping his fists. Though entertaining got too heavy on use of finishers.

[1998-01-03-NWA 2000] Cham Pain & Venom vs Surge & Kid Dynamo
Kevin Ridge replied to Loss's topic in January 1998
Lady in first row jumps out of her seat the beginning at the first arm drag. What was there for the fans seemed to enjoy it. Some clunky stuff in ring though. There was an exchange in the corner that looked really off. Then Moore tries to tag in Hardy later and Matt nods his head as if we aren't at that spot yet. Matt tags in moments later, does a body slam and then tags right back out. Moore looks so tiny though. I'll give credit for Venom for at least trying to interact with the fans during the match. -
Many of ones that first came to mind have come up already. The Beer Bath Austin gives the whole Corporation is always mentioned/shown by WWE. Took the second spot on their Top 50 WWE incidents DVD.

Had my times growing up where I wasn't following as close. Then around 2002-03, I cut back on watching the current stuff and began to focus on older material. There has been so much I had never seen that it keeps my entertained. So while not following current product as much as I still watching a ton of other stuff. Got burned out in the last few months though. Have also noticed I am not reading any books for past couple months and am always reading something. I was watching more WWE, trying to watch other current stuff. Network had me watching Superstars, Main Event and NXT. Then I was doing other projects and just got overwhelmed. Part of it was a total lack of focus on my viewing but I just didn't want to write about or read other's thoughts on wrestling. A break was in order. So I just stuck to watching certain stuff on the Network like Countdown, Legends of Wrestling and WrestleMania Rewind (would actually skip the actual match). My main thing was through the old Raws starting in 1993. Yeah, you weren't getting a whole lot of great matches or must see angles but I found these shows to be fun. Didn't have to worry about analyzing or putting my thoughts together. Just sat back and watched and got plenty of laughs out of some of the stuff and especially the commentary. Am slowly getting back right now. Went to MITB and had a good time. The other fans can be annoying but thought people were well behaved at that show and didn't have to listen to WWE commentary team. Even got a ticket to a house show for September. Haven't been to one of those since 2004. Catching up on Titans shows which are always a blast and getting ready to tackle 1998 stuff.

I loved that this show both opened and closes with Dick Graham having his arm around Kal. Philly crowd was booing everyone through the first couple of matches. Dick Graham is a big trend setter bringing up future nicknames Macho Man and One Man Gang. He even mentions the Code of Honor. Just ahead of his time. Kal, "Poet and don't know it!" Happy wedding anniversary Dick. Some of those early matches weren't too good but at least they are short. Enjoyed that Parv was skipping on the carbs and lead analyst Pete was skipping on watching the matches. Nice kip up by Dominic. Oh, but that finish was bad. Poor Dominic. Common thing with this card was poor finishes. South Park Stanley Cup episode is great. Especially the finish. I like Johnny turning Cappetta into a heel. Am mixed on Pedro/Hansen. On one hand I'm cool with Hansen beating the crap out of Pedro but I see Johnny's point about hoping for a bit more from Morales during match. Was hoping for bit more out of this one. Know you guys loved Slaughter/Backlund and I agree it was match of the night. But I thought their previous match was a bit better. Too much Backlund here though Slaughter's bumping and selling was great. I just preferred Backlund bleeding buckets in their previous encounter. But this was still pretty damn good. Looking forward to cage match. I feel like Pete right now where I can't read my own notes. Think it was along the line that I found myself agreeing with Parv on some of these matches. I thought Rodz looked pretty decent on offense. It was totally laughable on how he dominated match and then took a weak kick and the lamest elbow possible and was put away. Mikel versus Jones. Was enjoying this phantom foreign object being used most of the match. I'm on the Jones was more successful than Leaping Lanny bandwagon. Appreciate Johnny bringing up Crazy Bob Backlund. This was so apparent in his post match rant to Kal and then the interview with Dick. He did the Sportscenter type interview but just came off nuts. My favorite part of the Hogan interview was the very beginning. We see Hulk posing in front of the camera and then Kal pops out from behind him, looks Hogan over and then says "very nice Hulk". Hogan running him down was funny cause Kal kept smiling but you could see in his eyes that he was crushed. The Baron/Taxi Driver bit was hilarious. I totally missed the stip about tag match with Garea/Martel versus Moondogs. Thought it was a traditional match with just a special guest referee. Johnny did bring this up on whether it affected the opinion of match. I think it does as I found this to be perfectly fine match. Maybe it could have done more moves but I still enjoyed it. Match was getting a whole lot of "woo hoos" from Dick.

From SNME episode 12. Hart Foundation had helped out Honky Tonk Man attack Macho Man with the guitar. Mean Gene: "That event will live in infamy with such events as Pearl Harbor." Bret Hart: "Are you nuts?"

What did they add? Just looking at selection on my computer and there is only 32. The last one I saw added was The Soul of Wrestling.

Don't listen to current day wrestling podcasts since don't follow he product too much. But had to check this out since I did see the PPV live and wanted to hear more from Dylan after his live posts in Battleground thread. He sure delivered more! Totally agreed on moves that have too much before hand to the set up. And the taunts before finishers is one of my least favorite things. Guys almost never hit their moves after when they do this. I didn't realize things were so bleak for many of the fans.

Really counting my blessings for being able to see MITB live instead of this one. Had some network issues during Jericho/Wyatt and Rusev/Swagger. But overall I was not having the normal buffing issues I do have on my live stuff. So that is one positive to take away. But still I shouldn't be having any issues with feeds. Never have problems when using Amazon Prime.

Reigns got the Henry/Show treatment of running through guys to the point you know they aren't winning. Last five minutes of this match was just finishers.

Renee Young might have to streak ringside to send me home happy for this show.
