  1. For those that subscribe online, what format is the Observer delivered each week If its clean and easy to print and save I'd consider switching from my print subscription to online.
  2. I imagine the appearance as booked by the movie people who thus can likely dictate what topics will be covered on his appearance. Don't think Rock has much say in that.
  3. One of those issues that pops up every year or 2 where I can skim most of it. Oh well.
  4. We join to Eddy immediately slipping as he comes off top rope. Nothing special, but I enjoyed what we had here more than Liger/Eddy.
  5. Definitely a letdown given who was involved. This felt pretty by the numbers with nothing spectacular. Eddy delivered a great dropkick, while it looked like Liger was poorly positioned and didn't do a great job catching Eddy on his dive. Liger's half-standing/kneeling submission was a really creative finish I haven't seen before. **3/4
  6. Who says All Japan didn't feature great brawling? Just awesome, wild strikes from both here throughout the match. Hansen sold his knee like a champ and on the comeback delivers a sick power bomb to Kawada on floor. Interesting how they each used missed elbows as transitions in succession. Kawada slams Hansen on the floor and gives a diving elbow off the apron to the outside, after which point the crowd treats all of Kawada's offense as a potential finish. Kawada eats another bump on the floor, taking a bodyslam this time. After countering two attempted lariats, Kawada eats the third for the finish. This stuff does not age. Its just awesome. ****1/4
  7. Hayes actually looks legit and not completely out of place in this setting, even if the whole thing is absurd. Garvin? Not so much. Where did they find these people are who featured? How much money did they spend on this? Why isn't this universally panned as a colossal waste of financial and creative resources as the White Castle of Fear and other similar videos from a year later? So many questions coming out of this. Fortunately not much time would go into answering them.
  8. Love the pink outfit. Really befitting a world champion. As is showing up without a world championship belt. Little things do matter. Already settinguip the Vader match which wouldn't headline until July. The production & lighting here feel really minor league.
  9. Standard, quick promo from Cornette & the Bodies. Cornette could probably pull one off at this level in his sleep.
  10. Jarrett delivers on the mic with an effective promo setting up a cage match at the MSC, calling back to his dad potentially losing his vision in reference to what the heels did to Embry.
  11. I liked this better when I thought it was going to be a new Moondog named Hunter.
  12. Yes! They had a great closeup of his scarred eyes and as a kid who never had access to Memphis tv it was quite the impression. This was an awesome brawl, with Embry in particular going crazy with a board and garbage can on Spot, and the others working in chains and weapons all around. After Lawler pins Lee, the Moondogs throw acid in Embry's eyes and he does an incredible job selling it. Pretty awesome how quickly he went from a big time to heel to the lead face in the company's #1 feud in short order. Afterwards Eddie Marlin delivers a simple promo that he won't fire the Moondogs because that would paint his babyfaces as cowards. Simple, effective and believable.
  13. The fan club bit was awesome. I absolutely wanted in on that when I was younger. Warrior talks about Sid using his curse to spread doom on his good friend Hulk Hogan and there are kids everywhere. This felt inappropriate.
  14. Sad to see Moondog Spike passed away. I'm watching the '92 Yearbook at this time and they were a truly unique, special team. http://www.f4wonline.com/more/more-top-sto...son-passes-away
  15. I haven't seen any of the highly touted NJ elimination matches as I've yet to grab that 80s set, but I agree that this format is great -- keep it simple while avoiding silly handicap situations.
  16. Ha guess you've thought about this one. I also found it curious that Kawada closed for his side rather than Misawa so him coming in with an injury definitely makes sense. No question it'd have been stronger with Taue in Kimura's place. A lot stronger. But after the opening this didn't have the same urgency or focus that I'd want from this crew. THey were going to go over an hour and that's that -- whatever it took get there the were getting there, no matter what shortcuts they had to take. I'm a fan of this layout but when you look at it in comparison with their straight tags and six mans, it juts doesn't seem like anyone was looking to blow the roof off the building.
  17. This was good for reasons other than what I would've expected, but never quite reached the levels I was hoping for. Then again if it had, it'd probably be a pretty well touted affair. Good chops early which is no surprise given who's involved. Flair works the knee and mixes in some heel spots much moreso than you'd think from Flair in Japan. After being pinned by the figure four in the first, Tenryu does a great job selling it the rest of the way. Flair's animation and character really shined in this setting. The pacing and story brought things down, even considering expectations coming into this. ***1/4
  18. I sat down to watch this one night thinking I'd bang this out in 30-35 minutes and maybe have time for Flair/Tenryu afterwards. I was wrong. It was fun to see this and probably a hell of a spectacle if you were there live, but not something I'd seek out again or recommend to someone. As others have noted, you can get a whole lot more with less from this crew. The highlight for me was actually the opening with Kobashi & Kikuchi vs. Fuchi & Ogawa. This was some of the best heel work I've seen from Fuchi/Ogawa as they looked like a regular Tully & Arn out there. Kobashi put on a show going over an hour here. Kudos to the crowd for staying hot right through Kawada joining for the stretch run. ***1/2
  19. Apparently I wasn't as high on this as others. I liked the heel work and the faces played their roles great as well. Sagrada bumped like a champ and I was perhaps most impressed with Misteriocito here. But it didn't resonate as more than a very good match, nothing too memorable. ***1/4
  20. I've seen the final from two weeks later a ton and have always loved it as a classic. Somehow I'd never seen this one but it was just phenomenal and really primes you for the tourney final. Samurai slaps Liger before the match to establish the story and he continues heeling throughout the match, throwing chairs and again at the finish. Samurai tears at Liger's mask, a spot which would be prominent in the rematch. Liger's shine is great, with a jumping lariat, superplex, flying elbow and tombstone before Samurai hits a huge somersault dive to the floor. Samurai finally takes a a clean pin after a low kick and rana. This was awesome. ****1/4
  21. This felt like a high octane exhibition. Scorpio looked like a stud here, which was often the case for him against Benoit and especially during this period. Really nice roll through sequence for the pin. *** 1/4
  22. This was a fantastic sub 10 minute match, one of the best I've seen. Its also no surprise that one of Casas' best performances in Japan comes against someone well versed in his style. Casas strikes me as the type of wrestler who if he were a chef, would likely run the single greatest Applebees or Diner in the country. He can take pretty average ingredients (time constraints, card positioning, opponent) and make something excellent out of just about anything. Put him in a first class steakhouse and he'll likely deliver there as well. ***3/4
  23. So much to love here. Savage selling the knee on his way down the aisle and consistently thereafter, Shawn bumping like Shawn, Sherri putting on a *clinic* and reminding me why she was so great. Savage actually sold the knee for so long before hitting the elbow at the finish that I was convinced HBK would roll away. The post-match heel attack was nice, but how about Lord Al Hayes saying a review of it could result in a lifelong disqualification for HBK? Amazing. ***1/2
  24. Davey Boy has a huge pop in the intros in a match totally made by the crowd. Bulldog wins clean with the powerslam. Flair really put him over strongly and the crowd loved every bit of it. **3/4
  25. After all of those vignettes and build up we finally have the debut of the Bodies. It may have been an extended squash but I thought it was pretty great, with the Bodies looking phenomenal on offense in this style and making fast tags while the Battens were a hell of a canvas for what they were doing. ***1/4
