  1. The dogs attack Jarrett who fends them off with a ton of weapons. I love the dogs, but it was kind of campy having all of those weapons so blatantly fed to Jarrett from behind the curtain.
  2. I cannot believe I never heard about this match, both for how awesome it was and for how it set the stage for Kobashi & Kikuchi taking on the Can-Ams in May. Kroffat lays out Kawada with a tiger driver on the floor right away, and then its time for Kikuchi to die. He eats a double backdrop suplex, a doomsday device, a nasty press slam into the crowd and tons more before Kawada gets the hot tag. The crowd is popping huge for his comeback as he trades near falls with Kroffat before the stretch plum finishes things. 5/25/92 is clearly ahead of this, in no small part thanks to an all time crowd, but this is no slouch and probably my favorite match through March. ****1/2
  3. Brought to you from the Global Dome! When I was younger and watching Global on ESPN, I bought into the global dome. Little did I know it wasn't all that global. But hey, that's what being an 11 year old mark is all about.
  4. Casas takes a slick quebrada early on, though the highlight for me was Casas vs. Silver King in the second fall. The rudos' celebration after winning that fall was also just awesome and one of those little things that goes a long way towards making a good match great. I know we're only getting the cream of the crop on the yearbook, but I am loving the lucha on here thus far. ****
  5. Man was this great. Loss & Dylan basically hit on what was so fantastic -- you've got your standard Rude promo before the match that never fails to deliver, Heyman holding the belt high like he would for Punk 20 years later, though with one hand this time as he also has to carry his next gen cell. Pillman holds up his end of the bargain in the match, dropkicking Rude as he comes off the top, blocking the Rude Awakening and generally playing the role of upstart babyface bringing it to a main event heel to perfection. Would've loved a PPV match from these 2, but for they really make the most out of the time allotted. ***
  6. Buddy Landell could definitely cut a promo. He's on town for the best and doing favors for nobody. A wrestling god before JBL.
  7. Dutch invites Wright to corner him vs. Brian Lee, which brings a tear tear to Wright's eye. Wright looks like that neighbor your parents warn you against speaking with.
  8. Cornette delivers an awesome promo referencing Magic Johnson, Pee Wee Herman, Jerry Falwell and more.
  9. Richard Lee delivers a completely unintelligble promo and my favorite tag team act of 1992 murders a couple jobbers.
  10. They announce a double main event for mania and we get promos from all 4. 2 of them are much stronger than the others. When did they finally touch on the fact Hogan would be gone after this?
  11. CLASSIC spot from my childhood. All I knew is I wanted Right Guard and I wanted to paint on the beach because it meant I could headline wrestlemania.
  12. Not bad but nothing so special here either, though it was pretty obvious they were calling the next sequence of spots following a Lynn armdrag. I may very well be biased against BH as well as I just can't get into his schtick all that much. **1/4
  13. First two falls were very quick with a hint of what was to come in Salvaje's big tope. Once they squared things up it really took off in the third fall with Salvaje bleeding and a ton of awesome dives before the submission and a big haircut. Love it! ***3/4
  14. Enjoyed this a ton more than I expected going in. Armstrong does an incredible job selling the knee, with Muto & Hase practically heeling on him while he plays a prototypical FIP. It built really well to Norton's hot tag and douple suplex on the champs before Armstrong returns to take fall. ***1/2
  15. I'm perfectly okay with saying Austin's run was limited to a 2+ year peak. But what he accomplished during that run and what it resulted in has had a great impact on this business than just about anything anyone else has done. Austin hurts Rock's case because we don't know how Rock would've fared without Austin had he been in that position. Austin was going on that roll with or without Rock.
  16. Absolutely loved this, an early MOTYC. It started off similarly to Liger/Honaga with some fun matwork that led to Liger selling his ribs and back. Things kicked up a notch when Benoit delivered a completely unprotected Toyota-style dropkick to the floor. The closing stretch is superb as well, with both men pulling out a ton of highspots that fit well within an IWPGP Jr. HW title match, including Benoit reversing a tombstone and hitting his flying headbutt for an awesome 2 count before Liger rolls him up for the win. A disgusted Benoit tosses Liger from the ring after the match. What a difference from lucha Benoit. ****1/2
  17. Rick actually does a decent job selling for Vader, moreso than he would for most opponents. Sting & Vader always worked well together and this was no exception. Some pairings just gel. As noted above this could've used a few more minutes. **3/4
  18. Paul E delivers a great promo on why Anderson & Eaton are better than the Steiners, with an assist from Anderson and his phenomenal glasses.

No, I'm just not confusing "title match in the middle of the card" for "main event." I staunchly agree that Rock/Cena needs to be kept one on one. Undertaker not being fit for the proposed Punk/Undertaker match is not justification for me to sabotage the Rock/Cena rematch wherein Cena takes the title and gets his win back from Rock, which was the best explanation for the nostalgia act beating the top guy last year in the first place. Cena retaking the title in a three way affords him negligible bragging rights compared to beating Rocky one on one. Worse still, Punk could take the fall and it looks like Cena is incapable of beating The Rock. Find something else for Punk to do. There isn't anything else compelling for Punk to do. Entirely possible. And if that's really the case, I'd rather leave him off the card entirely.
  20. The case for Londos is his record as a draw. I don't have the numbers handy but its pretty plain when the data is in front of you. From a business standpoint, I think Austin is someone who's potentially underrated. You can certainly argue there is no publicly traded wrestling company without him and that capitalization, more than any number of record buyrates, house shows or merchandise is an incredible asset to the company's ability to withstand subsequent flows in business and build more stable revenue streams.

I don't think you do a rubber match, and whatever you do, Rock needs to be special. We don't yet know how much he spiked the EC buyrate but I'd hold him out until Summerslam if not Mania next year. Brock is still effective because when he comes out he's an attraction, not another guy on the roster. You need to preserve Rock in the same fashion.

Those are 4 triple threat matches at Mania, but only in 2004 was it the #1 match, and in that case you had special circumstances with Benoit getting the super push, as well as a ridiculously stacked show featuring Eddy/Angle, Rock's first match in a year and Brock/Goldberg with Austin as ref. That is not the case now. Plus Cena vs. Rock should be a stronger issue one on one without someone else running interference on the hard sell.
  23. I still think they can run just about anything underneath Rock vs. Cena. I don't have quite that same confidence if they muddy the waters with a 3 way where the only other mainstream match is Brock vs. HHH.
  24. This needs to be revived. I have to go Inoki vs. Vader 1/4/96 as I haven't seen the 80s NJ set so I'm probably missing most of his best work.
  25. Konnan talked about this period on a recent MLW podcast. Nash basically took the opportunity to see just how much he could get away with and found the answer was quite a lot.
