  1. This was GREAT. Awesome matwork early which saw them battle over an armbar, stiff kicks from both and a German from Kanehara that came across as an incredibly big move given the style and layout of the match. Kanehara gets the win with an awesome looking crab that he just wrenches back incredibly and drags Kanehara to the center to prevent a rope break. More UWFI! ****1/4
  2. I had a tough time figuring out when the first fall here ended. Wasn't too concerned as everything was great. I'm not sure this is the best way to describe it, but Casas simply moves and carries himself like someone who was born to play the role of professional wrestler. Everything he does looks completely instinctual and natural. Great stretch run after we had the fun comedy bit in the rudo corner. ****1/4
  3. As a Sting mark at the time I couldn't wait for this. Nice pop at the finish, though I wonder how they decided on a flying cross body for the title change. You'd expect the Scorpion or a barrage of his splashes to give him a trademark victory rather than something that wasn't built as a killer move.
  4. The Milwaukee crowd is ridiculously hot for Rude. I had forgotten how well Rude worked underneath, as he did a stellar job selling his back and arm here, and has done so most times out this year. Not a fan of the finish but they weren't ready to go clean here yet. ***1/2
  5. Great match on a great card, but not a MOTYC for me at all. The faces work with Austin, especially Windham's, was really crisp throughout. Loved Larry's antics and losing his cool when things weren't going their way as well as Windham's segment as FIP. Nice win and I am very glad the whole Dangerous Alliance run on top still has a few more months. ***3/4
  6. I think there's a case to be made that this match is both overrated and underrated for its import in featuring LHW's in a major promotion. While not the classic it was looked as that night, this still holds up really well and is a great match. One thing that doesn't hold up are the production values, as this looks much darker and more minor league compared with what WWF was putting out at the time. Liger works over Pillman's knee early with a figure four and kneebreaker before breaking into the high spots, including a dive on the floor that Ventura calls a moonsault. They build to a spectacular finishing stretch with Liger nailing a German suplex, power bomb and superplex while Pillman hits a sweet flying cross body and dive to the floor before bringing the LHW title back to WCW. ****1/4
  7. Ron Wright is just an old man looking to manage a good christian athlete while collecting money for his needed operations. What a piece of work.
  8. Another fun, quick brawl in this series with more weapons and madness. JYD & the BBD didn't bring things down too much. Lee delivers a great promo in the back afterwards. ***
  9. Tanaka eats an awesome lariat which turns him inside out before turning the tables on Embry & Tony Falk. Embry decks the Dirty White Girl and its sold big as a kill shot. Embry's eye is ridiculously swollen from a Tanaka kick afterwards during his promo.
  10. I remembered Taker coming out of this as an uber face but it didn't take that way on rewatch. We've seen worse from Roberts in the Savage feud and while this clearly sets the stage for Mania, it seemed like even the live crowd wasn't entirely sure how to react as it was happening. Its a shame this was the end of the road for Jake as a heel here.
  11. Would've loved to see this complete but what we've got is great. Jumbo gives Kobashi a ton, eating a DDT on the floor, backdrop suplex and more before blocking a moonsault and finishing things with a backdrop of his own. The Kawada match is probably superior due to a better layout but I liked how much Jumbo did to paint Kobashi as a real threat here. ****
  12. Nice to see what these two were doing on the house show circuit, but obviously nothing too memorable. Standard spots at the top of the cage early which saw the crowd get pretty into things. Flair's chops send Piper to the floor for the win in a non-title match. **1/2
  13. Fujiwara working in his head movements and antics around kicks and takedown attempts. The highlight was definitely Fuke countering out of Fujiwara's crab. The finish was also strong. Nice look at this style of match. ***1/2
  14. Every week of WCW tv seemed to give something awesome from the Dangerous Alliance. This really did squeeze in a ton and had that feeling where a bunch of guys are running through their checklist rather than building something, but who cares when its these 8? Eaton was a bump machine early, and Zbyszko was also flying all over the place. Dustin is probably still my favorite worker on the face side to this point in the year. Loved the creative hot tag to Steamboat out of an atomic drop. Fun match building to Superbrawl a week later. ***1/2
  15. The Koloffs & Golden beat down the Fantastics and Tim Horner makes his way out for the save. Am I drawing a total blank or was this always the SMW version of the Fantastics?
  16. Solid Lawler promo where he sells JYD coming in to counter the moondogs.
  17. The dogs attack Jarrett who fends them off with a ton of weapons. I love the dogs, but it was kind of campy having all of those weapons so blatantly fed to Jarrett from behind the curtain.
  18. I cannot believe I never heard about this match, both for how awesome it was and for how it set the stage for Kobashi & Kikuchi taking on the Can-Ams in May. Kroffat lays out Kawada with a tiger driver on the floor right away, and then its time for Kikuchi to die. He eats a double backdrop suplex, a doomsday device, a nasty press slam into the crowd and tons more before Kawada gets the hot tag. The crowd is popping huge for his comeback as he trades near falls with Kroffat before the stretch plum finishes things. 5/25/92 is clearly ahead of this, in no small part thanks to an all time crowd, but this is no slouch and probably my favorite match through March. ****1/2
  19. Brought to you from the Global Dome! When I was younger and watching Global on ESPN, I bought into the global dome. Little did I know it wasn't all that global. But hey, that's what being an 11 year old mark is all about.
  20. Casas takes a slick quebrada early on, though the highlight for me was Casas vs. Silver King in the second fall. The rudos' celebration after winning that fall was also just awesome and one of those little things that goes a long way towards making a good match great. I know we're only getting the cream of the crop on the yearbook, but I am loving the lucha on here thus far. ****
  21. Man was this great. Loss & Dylan basically hit on what was so fantastic -- you've got your standard Rude promo before the match that never fails to deliver, Heyman holding the belt high like he would for Punk 20 years later, though with one hand this time as he also has to carry his next gen cell. Pillman holds up his end of the bargain in the match, dropkicking Rude as he comes off the top, blocking the Rude Awakening and generally playing the role of upstart babyface bringing it to a main event heel to perfection. Would've loved a PPV match from these 2, but for they really make the most out of the time allotted. ***
  22. Buddy Landell could definitely cut a promo. He's on town for the best and doing favors for nobody. A wrestling god before JBL.
  23. Dutch invites Wright to corner him vs. Brian Lee, which brings a tear tear to Wright's eye. Wright looks like that neighbor your parents warn you against speaking with.
  24. Cornette delivers an awesome promo referencing Magic Johnson, Pee Wee Herman, Jerry Falwell and more.
  25. Richard Lee delivers a completely unintelligble promo and my favorite tag team act of 1992 murders a couple jobbers.
