  1. Not as good as their match at the beginning of the year but that's asking a lot. Loved Arn faking the knee injury to set up a DDT when the time was right. One spot you don't see often enough that I love -- Dustin going to the top, Arn was out of the way and rather than forcing something awkward, Dustin changes his strategy, comes down and applies a sleeper. The explanation about Windham not being ringside to guard against DA interference made sense, but promoting an Omni show on a national telecast like it was a PPV did not. At this time, I kind of assumed the Omni was a big deal like MSG and took for granted that it'd be promoted nationwide. That's obviously not the case and comes off really minor league. ***
  2. Loved the spot with Embry pulling the strap down, then thinking better of it and pulling it back up. Clips of the match are followed by an Embry promo. He's such a natural and terrific heel who you can't help but hate. Just an utter slimeball.
  3. This is Memphis running up the score as it seals the deal for most entertaining promotion in January 1992. All out craziness with tons of weapons and brawling including on top of a stiff looking table. Juicing everywhere, chairs everywhere, and a Lawler fireball at Richard Lee as well. Love it. Its just too bad this is all we have of it.
  4. Is it just me or could these vids have just as effectively set him up to come in as a heel, almost taken straight from Last of the Mohicans?
  5. One of the all time great PPV posters. Some pretty heavy star power up front.
  6. Standard, stellar 6 min from the best in the world. Pretty neat to see Misawa sell and work as FIP for such an extended run. For some reason I didn't think Taue debuted the nodowa until May, but he clearly used it here after a power bomb to finish off Kobashi. Rewatching much of AJ from this era its crazy how much I overlooked Taue. Much of my first run through these matches was influenced by what I read in the WON and elsewhere so I naturally looked for what Misawa/Kawada/Kobashi were putting out there, but Taue was so different and great in his own right that his stuff feels fresher this time around. ****
  7. Sting and Steamer showed great chemistry here as a babyface team. The heat for Rude is just off the charts, which is typical for him at the time but it seems to have been forgotten a bit. The post-match beatdown on Steamboat was awesome. ***
  8. Awful. You can put up with a lot of trash from CT over the years because it would be well produced and look professional. That is not the case here, so instead of going along with the show you're sitting there thinking about terrible something is and it completely takes you out of the show. Why even bother?
  9. I thought this was the craziest match I'd ever seen watching it live as an 11 year old. Cactus takes some standard crazy bumps, including a sunset flip to the floor where Hammer does nothing to protect him, as well as a hiptoss on the floor. ***1/4
  10. Frey's promo was only slightly worse than Luger's. Ventura was definitely put over as a star. If I recall, Luger's contract called for a fixed number of dates and WCW had exhausted those late in '91, and thus didn't have a single match in '92 other than Superbrawl.
  11. Not much to add. These four were thrown together and put on a great, short, fast match. Things fell apart a bit during Bagwell's hot tag but fortunately it didn't go that long. Hats off to the other 3 for putting this together. ***1/4
  12. Concur with Zero above that I have no idea how Hughes' glasses remained in place through a match like this. They may have been just a heavyweight spot fest, but it felt incredibly fresh and everyone was flying all over the place. I forgot how well Hughes could fit into this type of match. He and Vader really sold like crazy, including Vader taking a top rope belly to belly. This was the first Clash I'd seen live as we got cable the previous fall and it was definitely a fun show. ***1/2
  13. My #1 match of January. Just awesome. I think I prefer this to 10/91 but perhaps that's because this feels fresher. We've got the huge slap from Jumbo at the opening, the struggle for the power bomb later, and Kawada kicking out of backdrop suplex before succumbing to a second. Hell of a standout performance for Kawada as he rises to to become Misawa's top TC contender by year end. ****1/4
  14. Classic Rumble and with good reason. A ton of highlights which have most mostly already been touched on. The star power was certainly off the charts. It may be the Flair show but I'd forgotten how incredible a call Heenan provided here. A few things that stood out to me: Flair & Valentine trading stiff chops all these years later, the Flair/Michaels segment early on that was probably a highlight for HBK and fun to see in retrospect andSlaughter taking by far the bump of the night on the way out. The finish was incredibly well booked to set up the Hogan/Justice pairing which felt bigger than it ended up being, and Flair's classic "tear in my eye" promo backstage with the belt. Just awesome. Tough to rate something like this, but ****1/4 feels about right.
  15. Fink's announcement probably is the highlight here. Looked like the ref did a shoddy job calling the finish but still a fun moment.
  16. Might be the first entry on my rewatch list as I enjoyed this but didn't love it the way some others did. Kid looked great and like someone who naturally fit into this style. I also enjoyed the lucha spots where masks were being ripped in a camel clutch. Overall nothing wowed me though. ***
  17. I'm not in their finance department so I don't have to run the numbers, but assuming they offered it on a month to month basis, they simply have to believe that enough people will subscribe for $12-$15 / month beyond those who already buy every PPV. I may purchase a couple PPV's a year, but would easily pay a much lower fee for this channel, likely with or without PPVs included.
  18. PPVs will remain available to non-network subscribers.
  19. Henry/Goldberg was awesome. Like watching one of those crash test dummy PSA's where the wall eventually breaks. Except you're cheering for the wall.
  20. Santo and Casas look spectacular while Chris Benoit is really just along for the ride and carried by the other three. Perhaps not typical but I guess its the story of Benoit in Mexico. ***1/4
  21. Fun DA 6 man tag with everything building to Sting getting in with Rude and MAB predictably taking the fall. I absolutely see the criticisms about these good matches not necessarily building towards much, but War Games and the Steamboat angle in the spring would at least provide some more structure and focus. Meanwhile, no complaints about weekly action like this. ***1/4
  22. Interesting, if I can get the Kindle version for free that's a no brainer.
  23. Okay sounds like we're buying the real thing. Will have to find a couple others suitable for the kindle on vacation.
  24. Is this something I can easily read on the Kindle or are there a lot of photos that would make picking up a hard copy worthwhile?
  25. Hogan calls back feuds and angles with Andre, Savage, the Hebners, Slaughter and Undertaker. Flashback clips to all of these were fun.
