Has anybody on here put together a comprehensive list of the best joshi matches from its heyday up until now (and not just joshi for those that dislike it)? I'm new to it (and Japan in general) and it's my current obsession as I guess decent female wrestling is still a novelty to me. I'm all over youtube at the moment but could do with some kind of chronological guide to classic matches to form some kinda narrative.

Whilst I liked this I certainly enjoyed this less then others seemed to. It was too fast paced for too long for me, to the point that I was getting exhausted from watching. The constant spots ensuring that few things could really stand out. I'm a joshi newbie and understand that this might be the style but there's been joshi matches I've enjoyed more. Gah. Maybe it's not the best match to watch when feeling a bit sleepy.

It's hard not to. They're probably just gone to be Ryback fodder. I'll never understand why WWE book their heels to be so weak. Present them as a genuine threat and people might actually give a shit.
-
If it involved guys that had no talent then yeah, deservedly so. People want to see Ambrose cos he's a great talker and offers something the WWE doesn't have at the moment. Rollins is a good worker although I don't know what his promos are like. Roman Rains stinks but you can't win them all.

Another enjoyable WWE ppv that looked shit on paper but was more than solid in practice. It looks like we have a Nexus part 2 and I'm guessing that that Maddox bloke is in on it too.

Enter Ambrose.

Show/Sheamus was boring to average until the last few minutes. Then again I thought that about their last match and everyone seems to thinks that's a MOTYC so what do i know. Ha, Sheamus is as big of a loser as Hogan. That was the right result for the Foley/Dolph match. I'm guessing Orton's going heel again.

Yeah, that was painful. The Otunga thing was great. Stuff like that, Dr Selby and the classic 3mb interview shows they can do great comedy when they can be arsed.

The opener was fun. Don't know why Brodus was eliminated so early though, by Tensai of all people. Glad to see these guys get PPV time though. I'm watching via a live stream which I obviously can't forward so I had to sit through a divas match for the first time in a long time. Bloody hell, how long has Eve been this great? Impressed by that match. Antonio going over was the right result. Now for the insulting AJ/Vicki shit nobody wants to see.

I was more offended by AJ calling Vickie fat than the daft fake heart attack thing.

Thread needs resurrecting. This has been a great place for me to get recommendations so I would like to see what others have liked recently. Been a lot of good matches this year although that could be partly down to me watching more. I've only started to follow non US mainstream stuff recently and I happen to be out of work with internet access so this is a pretty exciting (lazy) time. I'll add matches and my thoughts on them whenever I get round to it. Kazuchika Okada © vs. Tetsuya Naito, IWGP title match (NJPW 40th Anniversary Show, 04.03.2012) Hiroshi Tanahashi © vs. Minoru Suzuki - 10.8 Kyoko Kimura vs. Natsuki Taiyo Stardom X Stardom 2012 [05.08.2012] El Chupacabra & Virgil Flynn -vs- "Reno SCUM" Adam Thornstowe & Luster the Legend (SPW 4/22/2012) Akira Tozawa v El Ligero (PCW) Suwama vs Sekimoto, All Japan January 2nd Last Man Standing Match, Mikey Whiplash vs. Jack Jester (ICW) Chris Renfrew vs. Jimmy Havoc (Scottish World of Sport Rules Match ICW) AJ Styles vs Daniels - Last Man Standing - (TNA DX' 12 ) I'm watching this at the moment. Love Daniels stooging at the beginning. Daniels might just edge out Bully, Aries and Punk as my favourite heel of 2012. I only started watching TNA regularly this year so Daniels/AJ isn't old news to me. Love AJ telling the ref not to count cos he's not finished with him. Some nasty moments like backdrops onto the entrance ramp, heads on steel steps and some stiff punches. This match of course came from the imfamous Claire lynch angle. Yes, sure it was stupid but Lynch and her acting was so terrible you couldn't help but stare in awe and Daniels was hilarious throughout giving it a much needed sense of irony. It certainly wasn't boring unlike WWE's version of it with the other AJ. I'm guessing most people will prefer the Roode/Storm street fight but this just tops it for me mainly because I find both guys more compelling. And the endings pretty sweet. To be honest though this is a match that may be dropped from the list once I've seen more stuff. CM Punk vs. Daniel Bryan (Over the Limit) Probably my MOTY. I'll add more about it when it's not four in the morning. AJ Styles and Kurt Angle vs Daniels and Kazarian (TNA Slammiversary) Glorious spotfest. Not always my cuppa tea but these guy can pull it off well. Nanae Takahashi, Meiko Satomura & Emi Sakura vs Ayumi Kurihara, Yoshiko & Tsukasa Fujimoto 1/8/2012 Super Smash Brothers -vs- Future Shock -vs- The Young Bucks (PWG; 2012-07-21) Nikki Storm vs Alpha Female (ProWrestling Eve)

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3

She more than deserves it. I've not seen much Shimmer but judging by her work in the UK indies she's probably the best promo in the world. -
Would John Cena make your personal top 100?
Badlittlekitten replied to NintendoLogic's topic in The Microscope
Cena brings nothing but apathy from me. I wish he still had the rap gimmick or just something different to his Rock - lite shtick. Almost everything he does in the ring does looks goofy. He's had some quality matches but only the Umaga match sticks. I can't invest or get behind someone so dull. Where would you chaps rate him in comparison with the other company 'faces' (Hogan, Bret, Rock, Austin etc.) I feel he's a major step down from the heroes past. -

Is a heel destroying a flag a big deal though? It always seems like it's just the Americans that get uptight about that sort of thing. -

I'm kinda gutted AW's gone, he could be funny on occasion and it was something different. It was a good gimmick to get the live crowd into the tag matches. On the other hand Titus o'neil is good enough on the mic himself but I can't see them giving him promo time. -
Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Badlittlekitten replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
I agree. I steered well clear of TNA until all the hype following the Aries title win and I've tuned into every show since. WWE has been woeful lately and I needed an alternative fix and to be fair TNA has been decent in its own right. It has a sense of direction with multiple storylines unfolding at a sensible pace, as well a freedom which you wont find in the suffocating micro managed WWE. The thing that used to put me off was the heavy attention that was given to WWE fuck ups over every one else but that inferiority complex seems to have disappeared. -

Bloody hell, I've only just discovered that Ole and Arn aren't real brothers! Yeah I know, I know. Anyway. I'm watching the Horsemen set and I'm up to early 87 where Ole seems to swiftly disappear. What's the issue there? I know he became booker but that was a few years later right? I miss him, the Horsemen promos were all top notch before Lex turned up. I'm loving it though, especially the tiny TBS studio matches with all that pre-pubescent wailing and marking out. It's my favourite wrestling atmosphere and one that'll never return. And I've got to get this off my chest . . . I fucking despise David Crockett. He is the most irritating on screen wrestling personality I've yet come across. I'm sure I don't have to tell you how terrible his commentary is, the guy is clueless, I mean even 90's Vince had his charm. And the way he tries to speak over the heels when he interviews them, prattling shit from he's gormless face. The way he tries to put himself over as a tough guy at a hint of confrontation. I cheered when Nikita clocked him. Ugh. -
Just watched this match for the first time (I come clean, I'm a complete puro newbie) after reading good stuff about it around here somewhere. I agree with everything MJH said about it. Loved the early heel work, my favourite part of the match, and although the two early tombstones puzzled me, I was banking on Liger and Samurai to work it into the story as a vital part of the match. And maybe they did. And maybe I'm to used too the WWE/NWA style. But my enthusiasm for this match scuppered when Liger suddenly took control. I mean it wasn't even a transition, it was Sammurai dominating, a switch flicked, Liger is dominating. I get the "Fool, now Liger's PISSED boy" argument but there still should of been some semblance (Am I using that word in the right context? Yes I'm a bit thick. Oh HI! btw) of a fightback and a bit of selling would have been nice too, cos pissed off guys can still feel twitches of pain, even if only occasionally. Especially after two tombstones ONE OF THEM ON CONCRETE! I didn't find myself sympathising with Liger at any point in the contest. I Also thought the closing part of the match felt a tad contrived. Good match though. Never five stars. I suppose context has a lot to do with it as I understand this broke the mould in terms of junior matches in 1992. But as I watch this cold in 2012 it looks like a good match that told a good story which had huge flaws within it. I've spent the last couple of months watching loads of wrestling through youtube in my increasing spare time. I have a wealth of grappling available to me that I've never seen (and I mean shitloads compared to you guys. 1986 onwards WWF is the only wrestling I have any real authority on ATM) and plan to catch up with as much as I can. In this time of blessed unemployment I have seen many memorable and highly enjoyable matches. This wasn't quite one of them. It's only like the 3rd junior match I've seen (!). I hope this means that I just found this one match to be overrated and doesn't mean I dislike the entire Japanese style. Time will tell.
