Your "So So Good" Top 100 Matches of All Time
Sidebottom replied to elliott's topic in Pro Wrestling
No Bret Hart matches is interesting... -
Of course it does, when you interject seamlessly as if you are a peer and the work is comparable. And there is quite a leap between a $100M show and a podcast for starters. Regardless, when you are interviewing a cast member of Game of Thrones, you shut the hell up about your experiences on Sharknado 3, that's just common sense if you don't want to come across as a massive tool. It's similar to the other month where he literally put himself in the league of musicians like Alice Cooper, Kiss and that crew because they happened to be in the same building. He is the least self aware wrestler who talks on a consistent basis.

Just listened to his interview with Sam (John Bradley) from Game of Thrones. GAME OF THRONES, the hottest show on TV right now, time will likely prove one of the greatest show ever. John is talking about the CGI work on the show and Jericho counters... with his experiences filming Sharknado 3.

Sad as always to hear about the death of a wrestler. He has a 9 year old son apparently so that is pretty heartbreaking.

Ed Leslie post having his face caved in
Sidebottom replied to Judy Bagwell's topic in The Microscope
Just randomly remembered the story where he was working for the railway and had a station evacuated due to an anthrax scare. It was cocaine. Ah, 80's wrestlers. -
You'd have to PM him to find out.

The story goes (take it with a pinch) is that they worked a match, Undertaker said he couldn't work after the match. I've heard people say Tanaka carried Awesome in their series of matches also, again, take it with a pinch. I loved those Tanaka matches at the time. A lot of people dump on them now (and some of the chair shots are nasty) but I watched their Heat Wave 98 one not so long ago and thought it was great. Awesome in WCW could have been great, I remember at the time thinking they should put a veteran wrestler turned manager with him, a la Vader / Harley, but alas we got the Fat Chick Thriller. I don't know if it was his motivation or what, but can anybody think of a great Mike Awesome WCW match? Maybe without the stunts which top guys would never go for, he just wasn't very good in the cold light of day. But for the most part I have fond memories of him in FMW and ECW. More importantly than anything I'm saddened he didn't get the help he needed in life.

Randy Savage apparently had handwriting like a cool font.

I need to drop into this thread more often, I didn't know so much ECW was up.

Thanks I'll check that out.

Has BAHU made a comment on this yet? I know he went out to Japan and met the man once which is ultimate dedication as a fan, must have hit him hard. My HDD is filled with so many photos from his (excellent) website in the event it ever goes down, there is some cracking content and articles there if somebody wants to read up on FMW history.

Is there a context for that GOC?

For me Hayabusa was FMW. The promotion was never the same after his injury as so much was built around him. He came a long way from Onita sticking fireworks up his ass for a publicity stunt. From teaming with Baba at the Tokyo Dome, to getting an international fan following, he came very far in a very short amount of time. A photographers favourite due to his look, I was never a fan of the "H" change, but in hindsight it was a pretty radical thing for him to do in order to be daring and creative at a time he really didn't have to do it. What happened with Shoichi Arai after the accident is 2001 was tragic. The whole picture was tragic. But we got some light in the years that passed with Hayabusa displaying a good spirit and his walking to the ring video going viral. I just hope he went happy. RIP.

Watching the Russo 98 timeline (available at www.kayfabecommentaries.com) and Russo claims the second bump through the cage was accident. Foley has also always claimed this was an accident many times. Do you believe them? Seems like a pretty mental accident. Foley often tells the story about Vince thanking him and then telling him never to do anything like that again. Surely there would have been an apology of sorts for not providing a strong enough cage if the spot were not planned? Then you have the issue of psychology: how were they meant to get off the cage the second time after the first dramatic fall? Just both climb down? Undertaker was positioned on the correct spot for him to be off the panel which feel through. I guess as a counter argument you'd think they'd make sure the chair wasn't on that section - but then maybe that was the mistake?

That's the point, he hasn't. In wrestling - absolutely. Only an idiot wouldn't tip their hat to his success in that world regardless of how you personally feel towards his matches. In music, he pays to go on tour with popular acts. But he acts like he is as credible as those acts, which is embarrassing. It would be like "Bruno" acting like he was a big deal in the music scene because Die Hard was a smash, it's mental. And I'd put my house on the line a lot more Bruno albums were shifted than any Fozzy offering...

He has never actually worked for NJPW, in the employment sense - or anything comparable to AJ or Nakamura. The 95 J cup date was WAR, the few weeks he spent there in 97 way down on the card were part of a WCW exchange and I think he did a solo shot there in 98, again whilst being employed by WCW. Pretty sure he spent most of his time wrestling in Japan in FMW with Storm a few years earlier.
-
Yeah Bret has mentioned several times that he was told it was on the cards, and regrets never having worked Jake in a singles. For Jake's legacy I think it's a shame he never worked Bret in 1992, he may have had a match he could have pointed to as being great.
-
Good logic bro, how's that working out for you?

Listened to the Blue Meanie podcast from Talk is Jericho this morning as I have a soft spot for all things ECW, and he opens up with this long story where (long story short) he makes out he is a big rock star sitting on the cool kids table, subtly implying he is on the level of Gene Simmons, Paul Stanley, Alice Cooper and co. It was strange. I've noticed a few of these self aggrandising tendencies over the years and it's actually quite depressing to realise despite all of his legit fame in wrestling it would appear he is insecure about his place in the world. For years I was of the opinion he was a level headed guy who knew the score. What went wrong?

Daniel Bryan announces his retirement on twitter.
Sidebottom replied to Death From Above's topic in Pro Wrestling
Harrowing stuff. Here's hoping for a long and productive post wrestling career. -
I feel the WM13 match being so damn good has always cast a shadow over other tremendous things the two did together. Austin deserves so much credit for his interview appearances with the early "stone cold" character leading into Survivor Series 96. He was tremendous as a vicious bastard. Bret was the perfect protagonist to go against this and their MSG match at Survivor Series is the biggest offender of "in the shadow of WM13" because judged on its own merit, it's a classic match.

Never seen this before (never even seen the accident before).

Screw wrestling, that's life in general.

Does anybody know what the cause of death was? I heard he was found in a McDonalds!? (According to my FB feed anyway.)
