  1. $45 for HD PPV through traditional cable outlets is priced where it is because of the added cost of being on PPV. They've seemingly made money on this since they keep doing them. It's an antiquated pricing model ($10 more for HD still?), no doubt. I don't know their budget though. I'm curious what TNA's return to PPV this summer will look at price-wise. If the show interests me enough to buy it, I do it for $26 through the ringside discount and online only.
  2. I don't understand the tag titles thing at all because presumably at the Toronto tapings it set up MCMG vs. the Addiction so War Machine wouldn't get the belts back here since TV is so far in the future. Or maybe they do here and it's War Machine vs. MCMG at the PPV - I've had plenty of Addiction vs. MCMG in ROH this year. And I like their matches.
  3. What's the story with the tag switch after War Machine already worked that night against Okada and Gedo? Injury? Upcoming dates an issue? That one is baffling after all the build for that passing the torch match. There has to be a story there.
  4. Grimmas - how was the reaction for Kamaitachi in Toronto?

  6. Awesome episode as usual. Really enjoy Dave as a guest.
  7. Define "ran into the ground" for me - I thought business had been up during Steen's run, even if Cornette was losing his mind with the office.
  8. To one of Chad's points above - I think the ingoing perception (and reality really) of NJPW dominance hurt the Fish match the most. There was the one dual cheer, but no one was buying him until really the very end, which was a shame since I thought he worked his ass off. I was surprised given the heavyweight/junior heavy NJPW designation discrepancy how much O'Reilly really got to take it to Naito. I had a false presumption going in that Naito rolled over him (stupid twitter), but that couldn't be further from the case. Both O'Reilly and Fish abandoned their usual limb work to focus more on strikes and work a different style than their normal matches also. I like the Moose/Okada team a lot. Was really surprised how in-sync they were. That's a nice rub for Moose too. I thought maybe he'd be the guy to beat Ishii eventually, but apparently not.
  9. I've still got the last two matches to watch on Global Wars but I thought the Briscoes/War Machine tag was MOTN - and maybe the best ROH match of this year for me. One thing that's really stuck out to me in reading a bunch of show reviews for not just Global Wars, but also Supercard of Honor and even the 3/12 Philly show - you could see four different matches from the same show be pimped as the match of the night by different people. Booking aside, I think that really speaks to the quality of the roster and the diverse work and styles you'll see up and down the card.
  10. ^ I figured you two would be there, enjoy. This week's preview for Global Wars was pretty well done. To introduce Cabana to the current ROH audience they end the show with a good portion of his match with Punk in August, 2005 (Punk's last match in ROH). The other preview pieces did a nice job to catch viewers up - showing finishes from the 14th anniversary as well as Supercard of Honor. The one piece of this that drives me a little nuts is that Cabana/Lethal Night 2 SCOH exchange, where Cabana legit pins the champ with the worst looking roll-up ever. I thought at first i mis-saw it and they showed it again this week. He barely even holds his legs down, and then makes his goofy stare at him. Maybe that's his shtick, but that s-u-c-k-e-d. Worst ROH bit of the year, no way it's topped.
  11. I've only barely been covering the Honor Rising shows since we have Musgrave's full reviews up. I dug the stuff with the guys around Tokyo, but these felt so flat almost three months later. Anyone going to any of the Global Wars/War of the Worlds shows? The cards are finally announced - Toronto getting two HUGE singles matches in Okada/Sydal and O'Reilly/KUSHIDA. http://placetobenation.com/ring-of-honor-tv-episode-241-recap/
  12. This is a good talking point on the latest Where the Big Boys Play. Chad cites TNA, in fact, bringing in Jeff Hardy in 2010 and it not moving the needle. He surmised that Cena was probably the only name. Worth a listen.
  13. I haven't been able to fully dive in since grabbing the ROH starter set (and a lot of the add-ons) - I also have the Memphis mod that our friend UKWildcat came up with. Jimmy Rave being announced for this new AWE subset is really intriguing, good crossover opportunities with the ROH camp. Would be awesome also if he got a couple of the NJPW guys to sign on for a limited ROH set. Really glad to see Evolve is getting another set also.
  14. Parv wraps up the GWE project with an essay on the process and his findings (complete with audio companion): http://placetobenation.com/greatest-wrestler-ever-project-postscript/
  15. 70 top 3 votes to 50 for Funk (both impressive). That is a landslide win.
  16. Series finale?? Or more projects from the duo? Stay tuned. http://placetobenation.com/parejas-increibles-7-greatest-wrester-ever-part-7-11-1/
  17. Both Casas and Bock were just flat out hurt by the lack of ballots - otherwise they had a bunch of King votes (top 5/10).
  18. 10. Rey 9. Lawler 8. Kawada 7. Bryan 6. Liger 5. Kobashi 4. Misawa 3. Hansen 2. Funk 1. Flair
  19. My vote is Jumbo goes at 11.
  20. 132 ballots for Bock and those Top 10 numbers really jump out.
  21. Steven's post is exactly what my response was going to be to that.
  22. Goldust on 13 more ballots than HBK - runs contrary to this mainstream bias/voting talking point.
  23. I ranked him 42 so I think I win something.
  24. The only person remaining that didn't make my list at all is Fit Finlay. The other 49 are there.
  25. Is he on twitter? I'm not going to Russia. Sadly, no. I sought him out to share Dave's deep dive on his career and he isn't out there. Although maybe he's reading this right now because days after we posted the videos started getting copyright claims and it's a wasteland of Volk on YouTube now in comparison.
