Wasn't there a blurb going around that HHH/Steph were done after HiaC? This was a good payoff for Big Show and made sense since he was "fired" - versus Bryan knocking out the COO while trying to regain the title.

WWF Cage Matches - Attitude Era - Post HIAC (97-2002)
bradhindsight replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
While it isn't an Attitude Era cage match, I couldn't agree more! And then as Jeff poses and says goodbye to the crowd, Punk nails him with the belt. It set up a cool mini-feud between Matt Hardy and Punk prior to the PPV match with Undertaker (which was neutering to say the least). -
Or at least through Wrestling history Fantastic

I'm not sure why HHH/Steph would reward Big Show with a title match out of this anyway. There's still a lot to do in Orton/Bryan matches so no need to make it triple threat. Orton has yet to hit a RKO in either PPV match, neither guy hit a finisher tonight and they haven't ramped up the submission stuff either. The Cell is a terrible gimmick for Bryan though.

They've been regularly finishing at least 10 minutes prior to 11 in recent months so there should be something built in here. Hopefully they don't stick to that and shorten this to 22 minutes (versus closer to 30).

I dunno, a low blow back-kick for the pin kind of makes Ryback look like a puss.
-
Kofi is such a better opponent than trying to put a bigger guy in there for Bray. Some good power stuff. I thought the finish was crisp as they fought through some reversals into Sister Abigail.
-
Yeah you'll be hard pressed to find a better 14 minute tag match. Heat was off the charts. Just awesome

MAT WORK in a Divas match! AJ may be one of the most improved workers this year.
-
R-Truth looked crisp - best he's looked in a while. They even gave him a little backstory for why he was going for the IC title. Alas, Axel puts Truth to sleep and gets the win.

Khali counting along with the three count was amazing

Some cool spots but not a ton of chemistry there. They really moved slow spot to spot and that corner ladder piece was terrible.

I don't think we're going to get Soup's commentary since the Braves are playing but PTBN has a live blog up for commentary again tonight. http://placetobenation.com/wwe-battleground-live-blog/

It was a great finish, but I was surprised in that I didn't really catch any awful moments at all. I was surprised at how good their stuff looked. It would have helped both guys if that was the Raw Main Event versus leading off the show. Good mini feud between ppvs for Miz as champ.

Putting the wrestlers aside, Ray Combs was a pretty entertaining host. Always quick with a funny understated quip "buying a baby is actually illegal in all 50 states". Scott - aka played by Channing Tatum with a mullet - impresses me the most here. Rick truly has been dropped on his head quite a bit (another Ray line). Love that this was included.

[1990-05-11-NWA-Power Hour] Interview: Four Horsemen

Flair seals this one by being over-the-top awesome in his promo on Luger. Great stuff from Ric. -
[1990-05-11-NWA-Power Hour] Louisville Slugger: Four Horsemen

The announcement of Sid comes off real well here with the crowd giving him shit and Sid playing it up. Of course his first promo with the group is on Robocop, a hilarious moment that transcends time. This will never get old. I did notice that Flair refused to mention Robocop when he did his promo with Gordon Solie and Woman -
Awesome inclusion here. This is pretty much a sped-up version of their other matches, with the crowd heat off the charts. Flair's work on Sting's knee is great after things break down and Windham shows up. Despite Sting being hurt, stuff like this really keeps him at the forefront of the main event scene. I like this match + post match stuff more than the Capital Combat cage match and antics. Two other quick notes: Loved the old ladies in the front row. Reminded me of a story my Dad tells about my great grandmother being a huge fan back in the day (we're talking 30s-40s-50s) who absolutely loathed the heels and would yell at them (and hopefully swing her purse). She's long passed (mid 1980s) but I wish I could find out what those cards were (Allentown PA area). Teddy Long on commentary "Is that a backslide?" Horrible.

[1990-05-19-NWA-Capital Combat] Ric Flair vs Lex Luger (Cage)
bradhindsight replied to Loss's topic in May 1990
This baffled the hell out of me, almost as much as Sid just standing there instead of helping to attack Sting (prior to the cage being raised). I don't recall Sid even making it back to the ring for the beat down later. Where did he go? -
[1990-05-19-NWA-Capital Combat] Ric Flair vs Lex Luger (Cage)
bradhindsight replied to Loss's topic in May 1990
So the storyline from the broadcasters was Luger had a knee injury which led to the staph infection. He didn't sell any kind of knee injury (even during the match it was pretty sporadic) though. [edit: ok reading above, knee injury was legit. Good on him for powering through] After recently watching WrestleWar 90, things do translate nicely here. Luger is SUPER fired up (despite the illness) and gets all the offense until the knee buckles and Flair takes over. Flair constantly climbing the cage was odd but the announcers tried to cover it with Flair doing this to slow things down and throw Luger off his game. Flair gets super bloody also which the match needed. My favorite part of the Horsemen coming down is Sid doing ABSOLUTELY NOTHING. Of course we get a very lame finish of Ole raising the cage. Gigante coming down (and also doing nothing) was pretty underwhelming, outside Ole being scared. I liked this a lot less than WW90 and can imagine that watching and following the months of build back in 1990 - this was a super lame letdown of an ending. Makes sense in hindsight with Luger hurt and Sting ready to come back though [edit again: ok so he wasn't THAT hurt since he still wrestled the Bash?]. -
You bet. I left out that Sherri hits him with the scepter so everyone leaves the cage but of course she's last and then Warrior grabs her and hits her with a big gorilla press slam (and he struggled a bit being the end of the match I guess ). Another cool part of this match is after Savage's introduction, he races out of the cage and slides next to the entrance ramp so he can hide and surprise Warrior. Was awesome.

Warrior/Savage cage match from MSG 1/21/91 - Post Rumble match where Warrior goes ballistic on Savage after previously costing him the title. Interesting finish with Savage halfway down the outside of the cage when Warrior stops him, slowly dragging him up by the hair rung by rung until Sherri gets involved and Savage actually drops for the win. Warrior ends up stripping Sherri down and after Savage saves they have a pretty awesome pull apart sequence where it takes eight guys to stop the Warrior from wailing on Savage. Definitely advanced things towards the Mania match.

Where the Big Boys Play #50
bradhindsight replied to JerryvonKramer's topic in Publications and Podcasts
I meant this for the beginning of 1990 of course.
