Voices of Wrestling "Match of the Year" Poll
FedEx227 replied to W2BTD's topic in Publications and Podcasts
That's the best we can ask for, thanks for participating! -
Oh man, I don't know... he looks pretty liquored up is my best guess.
-
I'd argue he was barely worth it under the old model.
-
I tried to get some dollar figures from my source. He couldn't tell me anything a) he's most likely not privy to that information and even if he was, yeah, that wouldn't be a great idea to give it to some idiot like me. I will say though, look at their clients. CBS, ESPN, Major League Baseball add in the fact they are the unquestioned leaders in live streaming (sports and non-sports) and yeah, it's a steep price but in my opinion worth it for the stability.

I'm trying to post the new shows on here but I keep getting database errors whenever I include the links. Seems like I can post normally now, so let's see. -
Voices of Wrestling - WrestleKingdom 8 Review
FedEx227 replied to W2BTD's topic in Publications and Podcasts
It's that conundrum a lot of promotions find themselves in, they build and build and build and build that by the time they have these major shows, all the huge matches they've built towards have either already been done or aren't hot anymore. I have no doubt that they'll be able to build to something big at the G1 Finals but it will be an interesting year for sure. They are a victim of expectations in 2014. 2013 and the latter half of 2012 were almost unsustainably great. Each event seemingly better than the next, MOTY contenders up and down the card and two shows in 2013 that were all-time greats including a nearly untouchable G1 Climax tournament. Can they sustain that in 2014? I think we're already seeing, no. Doesn't mean they are bad by any means or on the downside but it's going to be impossible bell-to-bell to live up to what they did in 2013. Now the goal is improve the business side. -

The Voices of Wrestling Rumble Rewind continues with a look at the 2000 Royal Rumble alongside Mark Robinson (@lithiumproject). Mark and I discuss the Rumble participants, the frightening lack of talent depth, Crash Holly, Chyna’s awfulness, Taka Michinoku’s trip to a Chinese hospital, The Rock’s controversial victory and so much more! http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2014/01/0...al-rumble-2000/ -

It's only interesting because it's the first. You like seeing where it all came from but just about anyone can skip this one unless you REALLY want to watch them all. Not much of note happens and even the guys in the match aren't particularly interesting. -

It’s the debut episode of the Voices of Wrestling Rumble Rewind looking at the first televised Rumble — Royal Rumble 1988! I’m joined by Chad Campbell of PlaceToBeNation.com to discuss the debut Rumble, the characters involved, best eliminations, strategy and much more! http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2014/01/0...al-rumble-1988/ -
Smarks are coming around on Orton because he's been lambasted so much. Similar how they did to Triple H a year or so ago... if so many smarks hate it, then we must in turn say it's good even though we said it was bad a year ago and say he's "IMPROVED" or that his character has evolved when anyone with a brain can tell you neither of those things are true.

Sounds good man. I just responded to your PM and am talking with Chad right now. I have a few other people interested. I'm going to work on a spreadsheet now to see who wants to cover what year, etc. Thanks man! -

Yup, just the battle royal/Rumble portions. Just thought it'd be something fun to do leading up to the Rumble this year. I'm a total mark for the Rumble, the order of participants, statistics of the Rumble and what not. To avoid being an idiot and doing it myself or writing it down, I thought I'd reach out to people I trust before going out to the general, ugh, public. -
Gauging some interest if anyone from this site would like to work on a podcast project where we re-watch JUST the Royal Rumble matches and do a quick 30-45 minute review of that Rumble. I know we have a few different websites on here including most notably PlaceToBeNation and I'm totally open to something of a collaborative podcast if you guys would like to as well. Let me know!
-
I've always wondered this as well. The common narrative is "OH WELL NOBODY WILL WATCH THAT", but do we really know that? They haven't done it in 15+ years, but that doesn't mean it couldn't be tried again. Hell, it might be seen a positive because at least it's SOMETHING different from what has essentially been a stagnant show format for the past 15-20 years.

Voices of Wrestling - World Tag League Final review
FedEx227 replied to W2BTD's topic in Publications and Podcasts
Shibata/Goto Devitt/Ibushi Four way for junior titles (Bucks/Hooligans/Splitters/TAKA&Taichi) Makabe/Fale or Makabe&Honma/Fale&Tonga That's nine, and I don't know where that leaves Ishii, Shelton, Tanaka, Yujiro. I assume a big multi man tag with the likes of Liger, Tiger Mask, YOSHI-HASHI, etc, but the four guys above probably deserve a better spot. Can't believe they have nothing lined up for Ishii. Here's what I have: IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Tag Team Title: Matt Jackson & Nick Jackson vs. KUSHIDA & Alex Shelley vs. TAKA Michinoku & Taichi vs. Rocky Romero & Alex Koslov IWGP Tag Team Title: Lance Archer & Davey Boy Smith Jr. vs. Karl Anderson & Doc Gallows NWA World Heavyweight Title: Rob Conwayvs. Satoshi Kojima Special Tag Match: Yuji Nagata & Kazushi Sakuraba vs. Daniel Gracie & Rolles Gracie Special Tag Match: Minoru Suzuki & Shelton Benjamin vs. Toru Yano & X King of Destroyer Match: Togi Makabe vs. King Fale Special Singles Match Hirooki Goto Return Match: Hirooki Goto vs. Katsuyori Shibata IWGP Jr. Heavyweight Title: Prince Devitt vs. Kota Ibushi Double Main Event I - IWGP Heavyweight Title: Kazuchika Okada vs. Tetsuya Naito Double Main Event II - IWGP Intercontinental Title: Shinsuke Nakamuravs. Hiroshi Tanahashi -
Is mookie talking about rights in regards to paying guys when they appear on "TV"? Would on-demand kinda blow that structure up?
-
I'm not positive, interesting idea though. I know YouTube essentially has it's own licensing issues and we've seen NJPW basically mute any copyrighted music for their online broadcasts. I'd imagine it's the same deal with DVDs and what not. From the classic videos I've seen on WWE.com, it's like we get on the DVDs. Overdubbed music when necessary.
-
I have a very reliable source inside MLBAM that can confirm that WWE is working with them and by his words "an announcement should come pretty soon". It will probably be at CES, but yeah there's a lot of smoke to that which is great, they are the best streaming service available.

The Voices of Wrestling Podcast returns with a monster podcast talking WWE Battleground disappointment, TLC’s potential Unification match between Randy Orton and John Cena and some breaking news about Watanabe’s continued American excursion. We also get into New Japan Pro Wrestling’s World Tag League, recap what’s happened so far and upcoming events, discuss our 2013 Match of the Year voting, Wrestling Observer Rookie of the Year, if wrestling television was always bad and much more! http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2013/12/0...ag-league-more/

Perhaps. I thought those little capsules were an interesting read for someone (as I mentioned) who hasn't watched since The Attitude Era but totally enforced from the get-go that readers of our site, this site or any "smart" wrestling site don't even need to bother picking it up.
-
I thought they were easy, well-written reads. All the facts weren't money but from a strictly "quick bio about this guy" standpoint, they were very good. Funny you picked out that quote when the rest of my review is a total hackjob on the book and it's many issue but whatever.

I would argue his WWE run 2004-2006 is far better than his work in the 90s when he was building the reputation as one of the best around.
