For someone that routinely received criticism for their promo skills or charisma I thought Bret was so money in this heel role and really took it to a new level around this time until obviously Survivor Series.

Here's my review of "The Squared Circle": http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2013/11/2...estling-review/

I'll try to listen to this later, I was at this event so it'd be interesting to see what you guys thought. I remember even as a kid being really disappointed especially as a follow-up to WrestleMania X-7 which may be the greatest WWE card top to bottom of all-time.

The whole half history of the business, half here are some dead guy's biographies thing makes it really disjointed and hard to follow. I'm just about done with it as well but I would definitely stopping reading if I wasn't doing a review of it.

Did my best mookie impression here to see where Survivor Series fits among its "Big 4" brethren: http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2013/11/2...ll-a-major-ppv/

Noticed this too. Lawler was in full "LOOK OUT!" "OH MY!" mode. Cole and JBL were giggling the entire time even in the main event which I found really irritating. I'm not sure what else it was but it just seemed really poor last night, maybe increased expectations with a less-than-stellar build and the need to have a strong go-home show. I mean, it wasn't long ago that GASP! it was the announcers job to help sell the PPV.

This would be my only advice, stop at around mid-way through 1998... maybe Goldberg winning the WCW Title from Hogan or Starrcade 1998. Absolutely no reason to subject yourself to 1999-2001 WCW.

Thanks for the kind words man. I'll address Tanahashi first and mentioned that while he has been supporting over the last few months, the first year or so of iPPVs real stride he was on top. There were definite questions if Okada could handle the load if given the ball, obviously he has and that's great... but again, we can't ignore that the first year or so of NJPW iPPVs (still super successful) were headed up by Tanahashi. -
The first option is Heavyweight, second bullet is IC:
-
What is likely a result of Naito getting a cold reaction at Saturday's Power Struggle event, NJPW is letting fans decide who goes on last at the Dome show: Nakamura/Tanahashi (IC Title) or Okada/Naito (Heavyweight Title) I go into some details about the background and why it happened here: http://www.voicesofwrestling.com/2013/11/1...m-8-main-event/ The poll is here: http://www.tv-asahi.co.jp/wrestling/pc/inf...1111/index.html

I'm pretty positive the stat is for all in the same week but yeah SEEMS like something Cesaro would have done at some point.

I've been down on the Wyatt's in-ring since their debut but I've definitely seen marked improvement over the last month or so and it can only get better as they spend time in-ring with Bryan/Punk. At first I was somewhat mad that two "stars" are going down to the Wyatt's level but part of me is okay with it now. I get to see two of my favorites try to build two younger guys, they'll probably get a decent amount of time and they are free of the shackles of overbooked angles with lawyers and B+s and 20 minute Hunter promos.

This always fascinates me more than what he would've done from 1993-1996ish. Would he have been re-hired by WWF as a full-time wrestler, how would he fit in clearly being a part of the older guard? What would his gimmick be?
-
Does Cactus Jack count? He only jobbed in WWF but still fits the bill as a guy who worked there and went to WCW and had some success. Obviously he came back and became a "star" but still. I'd put Barry Windham in that category too, was a flop but arguably a bigger star in WCW than he was previously in WWF.
-
To be fair though, isn't kinda how this sort of thing happens? Isn't that essentially how every wrestling star was created. It's all about being talented but also being in the right promotion at the right time with the right opponents.
-
And as I mentioned during the podcast and have mentioned on other boards, I totally understand this argument and largely agree.
-
This begins and ends with his Hell in a Cell circle jerk with Shawn Michaels in 2004. I think a "Most boring match of all-time" thread is way too broad but maybe a "Most boring Main Event of a major show"? WrestleMania 18 and 25 main events would like to have a word with you.
-
At what point though do you start attributing massive success on iPPV to Tanahashi? If him not being able to sell out Sumo is seen a detrement, doesn't being the top guy in a promotion doing fantastic numbers on iPPV have to count positively?
-
Was coming here to say this. He's a guy that really doesn't get enough credit for being as BAD as he was. Worse yet, he hung around for so many years without having a single memorable moment, match, move, gimmick, anything. Just devoid of anything interesting. His 'Mania X match with Savage was really fun. The topic of the title is most boring wrestler of all time. Not what wrestler has nothing to show on his resume. I would throw Baron Sciluna up as a boring worker. Isn't that in some ways one in the same though, he was so boring for such a long period of time that there's literally nothing memorable about anything he ever did in his career. I understand the distinction you're trying to make but I do thing Crush/Adams is one of the most boring workers of all time, absolutely nothing exciting or interesting or really done well during any of his matches.
-
At least Warlord was memorable for being juiced out of his god damn mind and as mentioned he at least has a FEW matches you can remember fondly.
-
I'm around the same point as you Dylan. Not sure what people expect, his writing is essentially a more refined Wikipedia excerpt and the book is playing out that way as well. It's interesting but nothing you probably don't already know if you have a basic wrestling knowledge. As has been stated, the target audience isn't really "us". It's more or less your friend that watched during the Attitude Era.

Worse yet, he hung around for so many years without having a single memorable moment, match, move, gimmick, anything. Just devoid of anything interesting. His 'Mania X match with Savage was really fun. Sure, I suppose that would be the one memorable match of his career but I think most of the pleasure in that match was Savage being a rapid beast. I honestly don't remember Crush doing anything besides hanging from his feet at the end.
