  1. Being a not-fan of Shawn's, I had the opposite reaction. Either way, my biggest beef with this whole thing was Sid demanding a non-Bret or Shawn challenger 3 weeks before the Rumble. Why do the Taker staredown before the Shawn match is over? Bret did have one interesting thing to say kind of along the lines of Goldust. Is it true that Playgirl is not necessarily for women?
  2. One of Hogan's finest moments of the year. He seems to be really enjoying playing the heel here and it's super entertaining. Piper not being given a ton to say makes him a little more focused than normal too. I agree they should have ended Hogan/Piper here.
  3. I enjoyed this a lot. Hogan crowing about his "victory" is a perfect way for that character to act.
  4. This is an awesome promo that is completely out of character for DDP. It still works great though!
  5. While I know the Giant doesn't necessarily have success against Hogan, I am glad to see him out of the nWo. That was a poor fit.
  6. That finish was totally unexpected. Since when did Hogan go down clean like that? Not overly good, but for two guys way past their prime it was better than expected.
  7. Excellent match with a ton of heat. Luger is really on fire here, selling really well when he needs to and showing a ton of fire in his offense. Really loved this one and totally agree with SS this was match of the night so far.
  8. I enjoyed watching Liger beat Rey down, but the crowd did seem a little burnt out. Also, early on Liger was kind of babyfacing himself, only to show some heel mannerisms a little bit later. Than he just kind of robotically went about his beatdown without really engaging the crowd much. Maybe he gave up on trying to get them involved? I'll agree with good-not-great.
  9. Eddy taking on the nWo was really great and the crowd thought so too! Why do they use the WCW Saturday Night ring for the PPV?
  10. It seemed like Malenko started to work more of what the crowd was looking for later on, but I have one major issue here. Malenko, the man of 1,000 holds and the Iceman, locks in his finishing hold only to have Sonny Onoo jump up on the apron. Why is he letting go of that hold exactly? What kind of threat does Sonny Onoo present that would lead him to the conclusion that releasing the one move that would for sure win him the match is the right call? Malenko is indeed tone-deaf fairly often even during this match. But that finish is moreso.
  11. I have to say that I'd take Marlena over both Sunny and Sable at this point. She looks less like your standard WWE eye candy and more like a regular woman who keeps herself in good shape. The match was nothing special, but Rocky seems like a guy the crowd want to respond to. I think they were chanting for Sunny in there (which can easily be misconstrued into Rocky). The floatover DDT is a highlight though, something far from normal in a match on Raw at the time.
  12. I loved all of this for reasons mentioned above. I really didn't get Vince's covering for Shawn though. Shawn's involvement led directly to Bret getting powerbombed. It's pretty difficult to make a case that Shawn didn't cost Bret the match. Either way, the WWF is starting to look stronger with their main event than Nitro indeed. The nWo is starting it's gradual decline and WWF has set themselves up with super-hot main events for a while.
  13. To me what they did here smacks of desperation & the stuff that got them where they are in the first place. First, you open the show with Bret inserting himself in the SCSA (their hottest new star) match against Vader because he's pissed that everyone continues to involve themselves in his business. Then you put these two on in the main event instead of flip-flopping those two matches, which would drive ratings up and help you fight WCW. All so you can run an angle with 2 fake wives of midcarders that nobody is really invested in based on a move you see every week on both shows. I know injuries happen on basic stuff, but this is just a horrible idea that needed to be scrapped before it was discussed.
  14. The nWo starts it's long process of bloating itself AND WCW guys are still on Sting even after he lays out nWo Sting on the same show. Some of the worse aspects of WCW booking are starting to rear their ugly heads. I assume the whole "nWo taking over the announce booth" thing over the last few weeks was some kind of way of getting their announcers in line for the Souled Out PPV as well as demoing the idea of an entire nWo TV show?
  15. This was an awesome match. Great punches from both and the all-time best tree of woe counter. Sorry to see Arn go.
  16. I can't understand why they continued with confusion over the fake Sting. Cool spot with the DDT though, big pop too.
  17. I'll go with great match on this one. If only for Regal's killer selling even while he was on offense. Tremendous TV match that really had me cursing the commercial break.
  18. That looked super messy. The finish was pretty horrible (from a booking standpoint) too. There is a reason the WWF was the #2 company in the world at this point.
  19. Flash Funk's entrance is indeed endless. Too much of this match is the guy taking the move waiting way too long for it to get there. the belly to belly over the buckle is really impressive for sure. I suppose this is the WWF's counter to the WCW cruiserweights? It's got it's own flavor, but they don't quite have the idea right. The horrible gimmicks definitely don't help.
  20. Putting Bret with Sid makes sense due to Sid having the title. That being said, it's much less of a personal issue for either of them as Sid still has Shawn angry with him and Bret has yet to really deal with Stone Cold. I suppose you want to try and put Bret back into the title picture ASAP after Shawn's reign fizzled out. The way they did it was less than ideal, but leads them to their comeback anyway.
  21. I'm sure Bischoff was both thrilled by how over his heel persona was and maybe regretting it a bit for being doused in what one would hope is water. This segment was the first WCW "victory" over the nWo. And they sorely needed one. They got it right as far as location too. The fans were absolutely behind Piper and Greene.
  22. I enjoyed this more than the opening promo. As mentioned earlier in the thread, Flair with something to accomplish is really good to great. And he wants to tell you how much Hogan sucks and Piper is the guy to beat him. Really liked this.
  23. I enjoyed this mainly for the crowd. Piper went a little too off the rails for me, but that's Piper. He's absolutely great on the mic, but I think he's better with less time to ramble.
  24. The nWo commentary was pretty good for the most part. They maybe went a little far with the self-congratulating heel smart-assery, but they put over all the workers. The Benoit/Regal match was really good.
  25. I was thinking about specifically Bagwell being in the nWo today. If he had turned heel by joining forces with Scott Norton and they had been a midcard heel tag team both Vicious & Delicious and the nWo would have been better off. Bischoff is indeed way more natural in this role. He would get better, but he already has eclipsed his entire announcing career.
