  1. I'll agree Mero's WWF work is off. Also, the crowd could care less about him since he debuted. The only reason WWF crowds care about Mero is Sable, which is unfortunate as he does show some promise. Essentially his gimmick is...crazy eyes? That's gonna work when Foley is on the same show as Mankind. If you look at the graphic they use for him and Sable, he is staring sideways at Sable while she looks at the camera. Possibly all of this is not an accident. Decent enough match with Owen trying to get the crowd into it to no avail.
  2. The boos for Hogan were indeed great (and deserved). He really had been the worst part of the show while he was there. And he was dragging a lot of people down with him. Good segment, but I'll agree it was not as strong as every NWO segment that came before it.
  3. Super fun brawl. I definitely liked it more than the more routine stuff they had been doing a month or two prior, with the exception of one really good Nitro match. I don't know that they were ending anything just yet as it seemed more of a build to Savage eventually getting one over on Flair than the end.
  4. Everything NWO-related so far has been knocked out of the park. As much as Hogan's turn did cement it, nobody can deny how amazing the build to that has been so far.
  5. I liked this a fair bit more than most. I am also a fan of mat wrestling, especially Regal's mat wrestling. I'll agree not an all-time classic, but more than enough to put Regal over for what WCW thought they had in mind for him.
  6. Dusty's reaction to the lady in the men's room was indeed amazing. And the moment Arn punted Sullivan after pulling Benoit off was absolutely gold. The match itself was a better version of an ECW arena brawl where they actually work to some of the spots instead of just doing them. Super fun and I love it, but objectively not a great match.
  7. Rey's selling is off the charts here. As is Malenko's work on the arm and as a a base late-match. The way he worked later on in the match also suggests a heel turn, which I believe is coming up soon. That first dive by Rey in his comeback seems absolutely massive after he had his arm taken apart for so long.
  8. Lawler's drawing is great. Warrior's con artist lien is..actually pretty great. I kind of thought Warrior would take the picture and bust it over Lawler's head at first, so I guess I was half right?
  9. Nash cut one Hell of a promo here. As much as Vince tried to cut this off at the knees on the previous week's Raw, this worked 1000%.
  10. I liked this match, but not as much as the RnRs match from the week before. The Giant again looks like a million bucks against 3 guys. The way he was booked when Hogan wasn't around was pretty damn great. My main complaint is too many press slams, something Flair is guilty of a lot with Luger and Sting.
  11. Luger's counter to the chokeslam to the table and ensuing promo really work for me. He just came off of a few months of going from full-on heel to is-he-or-isn't he? to now a babyface who just isn't going to put up with being tossed around by the giant when he has a way out. How else do you fight back against a guy almost twice your size? Also, he's not that far removed from doing that stuff, so it fits. Good stuff. Also, if you watch the full Nitros, they have started havign little 5-15 second bumpers when they go to commercial that tell you who you will see next. Seems like a solid idea to me.
  12. I'll agree with there is a sense that something big is happening. Really well-done across the board.
  13. I agree that Mankind is a great foil for Taker. He's big enough (in a different way) and crazy enough to pose a real threat.
  14. Funny with how much we know about Vince after 2022 that he was on TV scolding Goldust for creatively using mouth to mouth on another wrestler. I do love how Goldust leans all the way into the character though.
  15. Fun babyface vs. babyface match, but it falls short due to crowd heat and Scott's need to play fair during what would have been the heat. Which probably hurt the crowd reaction. Fun fact: Regal had just cut a promo challenging Sting right before this match. There's a what if for you. The Hall promo was perfection itself. Best ending to Nitro since I started watching in January.
  16. Excellent start to the NWO angle! The match was not great and I think everyone watching was actually relieved to see it stop. Why did Hall not take out both wrestlers in the ring though?
  17. The full match was pretty good. I get that Vader is a great bumping big man, but he really should have been used differently. More homophobia from Vince (and add Ahmed Johnson into that once he comes to) when Goldust administers admittedly creepy and probably unnecessary mouth to mouth.
  18. So the newspaper headline had the word "wrasslin" in it, which tickles the Hell out of me. Sunny is now a twice turncoat with the tag champs (where are Skip and Zip now anyway?). Austin did react to Ted saying he would be done. You could see he was interested in that.
  19. Better than 95% of the WWF fare at the time, so I was happy even if it's not the best strap match ever. I'll also agree it's the first time Austin got to really even come close to letting loose. Very good match even with the cliched strap match finish and extra time.
  20. I thought Shawn worked harder in the early going, he actually tried to put some kind of struggle in on his end while in holds. Davey seemed really disinterested while he was in a hold by Shawn. Was that ridiculous bump to the floor by Shawn something where Davey sidestepped a crossbody? Looked really weird. Finish was less than ideal, I'm assuming that the second ref was Corny's bombshell? Either way there was some entertaining stuff here, but didn't seem like a WWF PPV main event for a lot of it.
  21. I have to ask the question. Phineas seems athletic enough for a guy his size. Are the Godwinns really as bad a team as they wrestle, or are they out there underperforming on purpose? Seems to me they could probably do more, but are shackled by the "clueless hillbilly" gimmick.
  22. WCW executive committee with yet another ridiculous, horrible decision. Either way, it's good to see DDP and he is coming off of a pretty good match against Brad Armstrong. I NEED more Brad Armstrong in my life.
  23. Faces of Fear have been one of my favorite teams since I was watching in real time in 97. Love to see them get a solid title shot on Nitro. Did anyone else notice that Savage is wearing a completely different outfit from earlier in the show when he couldn't get in during the following segment? Would WCW really have filmed 2 segments outside of two buildings without noticing that Savage wasn't wearing the same thing?
  24. Both Flair and Heenan put Eddy over in a huge way here. That tornado DDT was super smooth. The match before was Fire & Ice (a sleeper favorite of mine due to Scott Norton) vs. the Steiners in another super-fun TV match for completely different reasons. Think late 80s AJPW. Great start to Nitro!
  25. Is this the genesis of the hard-working, never say die DDP with an uber finisher in the Diamond Cutter? If so, totally worth a ridiculous set-up tournament and dead crowd. There have to be easier ways though.
