Agree. Only watched the 2nd half or so, but there seemed to be far more heels wearing the Komen shirts/pins than faces. Dudleys didn't have anything pink on, Cena didn't either during the US Open challenge. And the 6 diva match where all (except Sasha?) had a Komen shirt on while acting like catty bitches during the promo, sure the "charity" is proud of that. As far as I could tell, none of the Wyatt Family were on the ramp with the rest of the roster, which makes sense. Wonder who else is exempt from wearing Komen stuff.

I've always felt that Virgil is the prime example of a "one hit wonder" wrestler. Had the Summerslam '91 match, and the next best match, whatever that is, would have to be a distant second in notability/quality.

Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread
shakla replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Megathread archive
On Bischoff, to me, it's more that he was on the ballot in the old days and fell-off around the time of WCW's death, rather than when his career was complete. He got less than 10% in 2001, and I don't think he was a one-and-done, think he stayed on at least a year before that. Looking here (http://wrestlingclassics.com/.ubb/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic;f=7;t=000499) there's a few people who dropped off early on, but it was while they were still active in the big leagues. Especially a lot of the 1998 names. I think Bischoff is worth putting back on at some point, depending on how many are elected this year. -
Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread

Kinda-sorta on this, I think Bischoff should be put back on the ballot. He fell off about 15 years ago, when WCW was in a tailspin. He should get another chance now that WCW is long dead and his WWE/TNA runs can be factored in. His wrestling career is more toward the end rather than 2000 when it was in-progress. -
How Much Bullshit is the PWI 500(full list below)
shakla replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Pro Wrestling
According to this http://powerpb13.blogspot.com/2015/09/2015-pwi-500.html: Darren/Eric Young and Zach/Adam Ryder were in the wrong spots in the originally published list. Eric Young should be #33, Darren #175. Zach Ryder should be #168, Adam #477. That makes a little more sense. I figured anyone full-time on WWE's roster was pretty much guaranteed top 200. -
Maybe Grant Zwarych's side business of selling old Observers might be holding back uploading/transcribing pre-1991 issues too.

Sorry to bump this, been awhile since I've been on. But in light of the last few pages, it reminded me of a story I heard on WOR. A few years ago, someone had a mailbag question about Tony Atlas and Dave told a story about how Verne Gagne had no interest in using him at his prime because "black people don't draw here". Don't recall any talk of slurs, but the AWA really didn't use African Americans all that much, maybe a few toward the dying days.

Agreed. I thought the rule of thumb was if you were a full-time WWE guy, you'd at least make the top 200. -

Glad the ballot got posted. Hoping it would surface after Dave on WO Radio saying he already had a bunch of ballots in. On a HoF mailbag show last year, I asked why Big Show had never been on the ballot. And there he is. He deserves a look after 20 years in the big leagues, not sure he'll stay on tho. Glad Ricki Starr is on, wasn't sure he'd be on the Europe or Historical ballot. I'll assume this is cut-and-paste, but it looks like the Andersons are only listed in the "15 year category" but not in a regular category like the others. Someone may want to bring that to Dave's attention if so. (Update: forgot they just dropped off last year) ADD: Both Samoa Joe and Eddie Quinn are not on the ballot, despite being included in "Added to the ballot next year" listing in last year's results. -
Wrestling's Best, Worst and Wackiest Music Videos
shakla replied to BruiserBrody's topic in Pro Wrestling
Probably not the best, but a few odd ones that stick out for me: Vince McMahon - "Stand Back" (from the Piledriver VHS, not the Slammy version everyone knows, this had a recap (or buildup) of the Hogan/Andre feud) The one from circa 1990 WCW with Scott "Gator" Hall to Billy Ocean's "When The Going Gets Tough" Jerry Lawler - "Wrestling With Girls" That 1992ish Roddy Piper one they played on Nitro to set up an angle -
I'd say the wording of her leaving being branded as a "retirement" had something to do with it. Or maybe a way to write her out since she had a match the previous Raw.

I know it's trivial, but why did they play Ambrose's music after his match? He lost. No acknowledgment of BNB winning the match, keeping his title or playing his theme.

Jerry Lawler - Any Outside of the Ring Shadiness?
shakla replied to Smack2k's topic in Pro Wrestling
I remember on one of the Honky Tonk Man Youshoots that he got a $999 payday working Memphis back in the day. Lawler asks HTM how he feels about getting his first "4 figure" payday in the business, HTM corrects him, and Lawler said something like "some people just aren't greatful". Again, not sure how valid it is, but if true, that's kinda scummy, especially with your own cousin. -
Thats a great choice. Have they ever featured more than one deceased wrestler during one Hall of Fame because if so id love to see Rick Rude get one as he deserves to be a nominee. The Florida HoF in '08 had Gordon Solie, Eddie Graham and Peter Maivia (although Rock inducting both him and his dad kinda softened things).

I'd say more juvenile and gross. But that's the "bit" I was thinking of when I first read this story. Did find this story from October 2013 about WWE sponsors http://www.sportsbusinessdaily.com/Journal/Issues/2013/10/14/In-Depth/WWE.aspx Not sure how many are still with them, but even if these aren't "luxury" brands, they are still owned by very large corporations.

Here's the Dixie "storm tweet" that got runner-up for Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic:

There's a bunch I want to say about the awards, we should move the discussion here: http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/30062-2014-won-year-end-awards/page-2 I just posted the Dixie storm tweet there.

There's an awards thread in the main forum, btw.

I don't think she was in more than 5 adult films, so I wouldn't call her "full-time", same negative impact tho.
-
I'm not saying I agree with that talking point, I just think this is WWE's perception of them.
-
Understood. Honestly, not to bag on your suggestions, but I don't think Torrie Wilson or Stacy Keiber belong anywhere near the HOF. What did they ever really do? Trish, Lita, Sunny I can understand. They meant something. Torrie and Stacy not so much. If Stacy had married Clooney, however, she'd already be in. Sad but true. I'm just guessing what WWE would do rather than say who "deserves" to get in. The bar is low enough at this point. Since Stacy has some mainstream notoriety and was popular during her run, figure they'll work her in someday. Torrie had a lengthy run, is still somewhat notable and hasn't become an embarrasment after WWE, would not shock me to see her in.
-
I didn't mention Chyna since there's no way in hell WWE would consider her. Just mentioned a few women who are still in WWE's good graces. Politics/outside activities aside, Chyna would be a valid candidate for the WWE HoF. She would not be the worst non-celeb inductee if so.
-
There's a bunch of other solid female candidates you can get to before her as well. Torrie Wilson, Sable, Stacy Keibler, etc. I hope they can induct more pre-2000s names rather than load up with too many Attitude Era/2000s ones. Kamala might be a possibility, but I'm not sure how he can handle travel these days. Same with Luger. Powers of Pain and Demolition are hard to say, they feel like "rip offs" and the Road Warriors were put in not all that long ago. I still think there is a remote possiblity that Undertaker will decline a HoF induction with how the nature of his character is. I know there's been a few character-breaking moments as of late, like being a talking head on a doc and some comic-con appearances, but those are still low-profile in the grand scheme of things.

I'm still set on the Regal/Prince Iaukea Nitro TV title match in 2/1997. Iaukea was maybe half a step above total jobber status at that point, the only TV win I found for him before this was against the Gambler on Saturday Night. Plus, a title changed hands and it was live.
-
The Iaukea/Regal TV title match on Nitro that I brought up would fall into this. Iaukea was barely above jobber level at that point and had no hype coming into the match. Maybe the first Barry Horowitz WWF 1995 win as well.
