I think what happened is Honky Tonk Man saw that no one owned the Patriot trademark, bought it himself and gave it to Tom Brandi so he could use it on the indies. Still doesn't seem ethically right.

For better or worse, I think Big Show's performance on this made a huge impact on the longevity he has had in WWE. Had he not done well, Show could have ended up in the scrap heap a few years later.

Bryan Alvarez's favorite tag team right here.

I just can't call whatever Lanny Poffo did in WCW as a "horrible run". Unless you're a big wrestling fan, you probably never knew he was under contract. He's more of an anomaly.

On the site's article about TNA moving to Pop TV (http://www.f4wonline.com/tna-news/tna-moves-pop-tv-january-201986), Dave (I assume) used the logo of another Pop TV channel based in Slovenia (see here: http://logos.wikia.com/wiki/POP_TV) I knew something wasn't right about that dated looking logo.

It was interesting that they gave Martel a push like that in 98. To his credit he got in good shape and could clearly still go. Tugboat/Typhoon/Shockmaster might be another. Although at this point, the Shockmaster appears to be his most well known gimmick in some circles.

Junkyard Dog had quite a few brief runs in the early 90s Kamala in 1995 Hercules and Warlord in their masked gimmicks Marty Jannetty (during the early 1998 period where WCW signed a ton of old mid carders to fill up Thunder and the B/C shows)

Agreed. Wonder what percentage of his video package would have WCW stuff if elected. I would bet 10% at most, even tho he had some memorable "spots" there.

Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread
shakla replied to dkookypunk43's topic in Megathread archive
In the early 2000s, the PBA bowling Hall of Fame changed their ballot eligibility from being age 35 (or 37), so many years as a PBA member and having a few titles (varied from 1 to 3) to where you had to be retired from full-time competition for 5 years or 50 years old, with an increase standard in titles won. Problem is, because you can still be competitive in your 40s/50s, none of the big names retired (some still haven't) and they didn't elect anyone for close to 10 years. Including Norm Duke, who is a top 10 (if not top 5) all-time player. Eventually, they took out the age/retirement guideline and just made it 20 years as a member with a specified number of wins. It's odd comparing bowling to wrestling, but you can do both at advanced ages and never totally give it up. I dunno if you should model the Observer HoF after bowling tho. -
Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread

That was in the Observer update today. I'm worried that Dave may follow suit, as the 15 year rule originally came from the baseball HoF. That would obviously be a big mistake unless the eligibility criterion was also changed to 40/20 instead of 35/15. Wasn't this Baseball deal announced like a year ago? At least with the years. Those ballots are loaded with big names like Bonds and Clemens that some just won't vote for due to suspicions. I know Dave has talked about how parts of the Observer HoF are modeled after Baseball's, but it doesn't have to adapt itself to their updates. Considering people go on Dave's ballot awhile active, or 15-20+ years after they were last active, it would be a bad idea to implement this. Dave should try to approach the historical categories like baseball's veterans committee to an extent, like a reset with years on the ballot. -
Another classic bad pairing I haven't seen posted yet, Mr. Perfect and Coach. Amazing that Perfect/Bret had that Summerslam 91 match with that character at ringside. Just conjuncture since I don't remember watching this pairing, but I don't see how Coach would have been a good fit with the Beverly Brothers either. Nasty Boys and Missy Hyatt might be another. The Nastys with a woman really doesn't make sense.

Some of those guys Teddy Long managed in his late WCW run seemed real slapped together. Jericho (although that was short-term), Bobby Eaton, Jim Powers. etc. Maybe Sid Justice/Harvey Whippleman too. Ted DiBiase with the Steiner Brothers in WCW was pointless.
-
Absolutely. It makes everyone (except the one running in) look inept.

Observer HOF prediction/ballot question thread

On the "Voting Groups" top 30 rankings, isn't it ranked by percentage of votes rather than total votes? With Crockett Sr. being #1 with active wrestlers, it's probably that only a small portion of the active wrestlers voted in the US Historical category and most of them picked him. Could be something like being on 9 of 12 ballots. The rest of the top 6 for active wrestlers are all guys in either the historical or non-US/Canada categories. -
Just chill on them. Some of them are a blast, some of them are dull as fuckin shit. The women seem to just be doing them every week now Of course the women do them, it's part of the Trios Revolution™.

Wrestlers (mainly Divas) shown watching the matches backstage at an angle where they can't see the monitor Not showing entrances (aka jobber intros) for those pushed or marketed (has happened far more often for 3 hour Raws) Steph emasculating guys Referring to Madusa as Alundra Blayze Backstage segments where they imply that certain mid/lower level talents have their own locker room Playing the theme of the loser of a match for doing a post-match attack (and occasionally, promo) Nikki Bella's "high school baseball" looking "Fearless" motif More heels than faces wearing cancer shirts/pins Guest announcers for the most part The "However, still your champion" ring announcements when a titleholder loses a match by DQ/CO but retains the title (as well as playing their theme afterwards) Inconsistent use of boxing/UFC-style "fancy" ring intros for title matches The "saw it coming from a mile away" Ron Simmons "DAMN" vignettes when "craziness" happens backstage Bringing the whole roster on stage for the Authority to have a meeting or "make a point/example" Playing the Total Divas theme when women are shown walking backstage before a commercial break
-
Beat me to it. I guess the Trios Revolution isn't just exclusive to the women anymore.

His involvement with Mean Gene's Burgers and Mean Gene's Pizza should give him enough goodwill to cancel that out. BTW, should I be suprised Madden didn't vote for him? Isn't Okerlund the only in-ring opponent he ever had?
-
Based on the ballots posted here, would have to think Okerlund has a shot too.
-
I hope someday we get a leak of the lumberjack pecking order. There's gotta be a backstage printed list somewhere. Like who is exempt from jobberjack duty. Also along the lines would be all the midcarders who the Authority wrangled in a room in preparation to break up the Taker and Brock fight from a few months ago.

And since people can be added back on the ballot for various reasons, even if they have not added onto their careers. Pedro Morales dropping off was disapointing since he was off the ballot at least 5 years before being back on. No one really knows why he was added back in 2009 or so. A few e-mail requests? Or Dave just felt like it? And he gets put into a new category (Historical) the year he's subject to the 15/50. The rule was implemented rather sloppily. BTW, did anyone ever check if there were any candidates who were on the 2001 ballot who would be in the 15/50 limbo this year? A quick look seems to imply that Villano III may be one, the others were 50%+ from last year.

I'm not sure if Sasha will even be a nominee for the Diva of the Year Slammy, let alone Superstar. I don't think NXT work counts and she hasn't been consistently positioned high in the "Organically Formed" Trios Revolution.

There was a year were Snuka's total wasn't included on the results and Dave put a correction story the following week right before the "this is the 2nd issue of the current set" plug. -
Almost forgot about the Divas trio match where the announcers talked about who started the Divas Revolution™ and claimed (on two occasions) that it happened "organically". That was a good one.

Wouldn't shock me in the territorial days if someone wished cancer on their opponent in a promo.
