This is quite the sprint. Just like the Toronto match, Steamboat is in complete control in the early going but he goes for a top rope splash and ends up eating Robert's knees. Jake follows up by focusing in Steamboat's midsection and keeps going back to it throughout the match. Steamboat keeps firing back in strike exchanges to stay in the match. He eventually gets lucky catching Roberts with a crucifix for the win. It's a shame that they had another flash pin finish but at least this one was less awkward then in Toronto.

Poor Psicosis, what a horrific sandwich to be stuck in. Shimoda got push as Manami Toyota's tag partner in '95-'96 plus had more singles matches in the late 90's/early 00's. I imagine that's where the difference is.

We are very much into "Very niche wrestler who you could see doing well on a few people's list" territory. Has Yokozuna been named yet? Curious if an actual yokozuna, Akebono, did better than him. Although I think the fake one was the better in-ring worker. TJPW and ChocoPro women finishing higher than Yumi Fukawa gets a big ol' 😕 from me... Trevor Lee and Shuji Kondo should be on the list of wrestlers who would have definitely done better if there would have been a list in 2021. Hopefully with Shimmer starting to upload their stuff to YouTube more people will check out the work of the likes of Madison Eagles and Nicole Matthews Rusher Kimura was amazing as an outsider in both AJPW and NJPW. All of the 70's/80's AJW wrestlers who either didn't do anything in the 90's, or nothing of note, are all dropping together. Would imagine we'll see Yukari Omori sooner rather than later. How did only 2% of people voted for Buddy Landell??? Was he a late cut for a lot of people? There is an argument that Akira Tozawa is the most talented wrestler ever to be completely wasted by WWE.

You can also build the inevitable Tokyo Dome show around Kamitani winning the belt back. Money is in the chase. You just need to figure out who should be champ by then. Either way, you know Kamitani and Kurara are going to be walking up that ramp arm-in-arm. That's the natural conclusion of this story. It's just wild to see the one company in the world that could get away with not pushing young talent is the one that is doing it the most aggressively.

I feel asleep after the tag gauntlet and woke up to Kurara doing a phoenix splash... No clue if that's good booking or bad but it sure is fucking ballsy! Granted, Stardom has a history of being successful with pushing new stars seemingly too soon.

The strikes are one thing, that's fixable, but the whole presentation made things worse. Why is the director cutting from a camera that makes the strikes look bad to one that makes them look even worse? That compounded things, almost to the point of making this guy look more like a joke than a monster.

The company has always been right-wing. On the SNME right before the '88 presidential election, Demolition cut a pro Republican promo. Survivor Series '95 had Sunny sitting on the lap of a Bill Clinton impersonator. They had Gennifer Flowers at Wrestlemania in traditionally Democrat supporting Boston. The only reason WWE appeared to be creeping towards the center with more socially conscience stuff was to try to appeal to a younger audience. Apparently, this guy use to have connections to Syracuse University which is the college that a lot of people in U.S. sports media went to. Seem to be a "guy who knows a guy" type.

Handheld of Athena vs. Rina from the Vegas Stardom show: I don't know what her contract/personal situation is but man would Athena be better off in-ring if she had a duel contract or even just signed directly with Stardom.

Where does Jumbo Tsuruta end up? There is no buzz around him right now. Newer fans who watch a lot of different stuff seem to have no interest in him. Older fans feel like they are tired of him. Are people going to be shocked at how far he falls? Does make the top 50 or maybe even falls off the list entirely?

I'm submitting a ballot knowing full well that I'll probably hate it in as little as two days after sending it in. I'll also end up forgetting to have at least 2 wrestlers on it that I wanted to vote for like I did in 2016. I have no regret voting in 2016 but still regret not voting in 2006 when I could have. In fact, I'm 99.98% sure that I wouldn't be voting this time if I didn't vote last time. If you're already planning to vote in 2036, putting in a ballot now will make it much easier to put one together then. Some people are either completely forgotten or willfully ignored that this should be a FUN exercise. This should be treated as escapism, it's not going to have any microscopic impact on culture or the economy. There be a much larger number of joshi wrestlers who get votes but I don't think it will be concentrated in any way where any single one has a notable increase in her ranking. People underestimate how many hardcore wrestling fans don't watch joshi, with some outright disliking it for valid, or even invalid, reasons. In fact, if social norms weren't what they are now, there would more of an active backlash against joshi wrestling in general.

Savage is phenomenal here! From the fiery start, to the tremendous selling, this is just a top tier performance. Bad News work methodically but he makes it work because all of his strikes are precise and stiff. When he sells he does so just enough to show the effect of Savages offense but doesn't ruin his tough guy aura by bumping like a stooge. Elizabeth even does a nice job as a babyface manager doing some legitimate distraction to buy Savage time to recover. The finish was out of nowhere. I guess Savage really like the small package counter to a bodyslam finish. Highly entertaining stuff here.

Steamboat pretty much controls the whole first half of the match. He even gets the better of Roberts when things spill to the outside. Jake finally manages to get on the offensive when he reverses a whip in the corner with Steamboat bouncing over the top to the floor. He aggressively follows up on the floor topping out with a slingshot into the post causing Steamboat to bleed. Unfortunately the finishing stretch was weird as there is only a quick tease of the DDT that Steamboat blocks but then Roberts hits a gutbuster only to get pinned himself when he goes for the cover. This was pretty good but the finish was fairly deflating.

This match was an absolute blast! Everything Natsupoi tries in the early on doesn't work. She's easily overpowered and out techniqued when she tries to grapple Hashimoto. Then when she tries to pick up the pace, Hashimoto is just quick enough to catch her. It ended up in a disaster as Hashimoto catches Natsupoi on her shoulders then presslams her to the floor. This wasn't the typical joshi wrestler bump to the floor where a handful of seconds end up catching her, Natsupoi does a full on splat on the floor. In spite of being owned in the early going, Natsupoi does show some pluck by continuing to try to maximize any crack in the door that Hashimoto leaves open. Especially down the finishing stretch where her work is rewarded with a couple of quality near falls. Ultimately Hashimoto is just a bit too strong but Natsupoi prove she could hang with the ace of Senjo.

Decided to check this out because I've never seen the much hyped Kendal Grey. What I have watched of Lola Vice has been a mixed bag. Sometimes she look promising, other times just awful. This match not only has a surprising amount of matwork for a WWE-style match but, unlike most modern matches, they keep going there throughout the match. It ends up giving the matwork value rather than a time-killing throwaway. Grey seems to be the type of wrestler that people in these circles wished Kurt Angle would have been as see has a nice mix of amatuer matwork mixed with some athletic spots. Vice has the best performance that I've ever seen her have. Her submissions looked tight and her strikes looked good outside of that quick kick combo that she really needs to drop. I like the idea behind the finish but I thought the execution took away from the quality of the work before it. Still, worth checking out for it being a bit off the beaten path for a WWE match.
