  1. The Trevor/Danielson comparison has really gone through this amazing metamorphosis as those who have followed him for awhile agreed it wasn't too far off while others like Tom Lawler and Bryan Alvarez actually at one time were making it as a negative referring to Trevor as a knock off who needed to find his own style and look until not he's starting to really change those minds. Trevor is an updated modern day super athlete version of Danielson as every part of his in ring game is stronger when it comes to pure athleticism Danielson probably had the edge for strong style stiff striking and technical grappling but Trevor is stronger, faster, and more agile. While both are/were masters of psychology.
  2. Stuka jr is fine can hit some spots that look really cool and knows how to base well enough but he's also kind of old and gets over in CMLL based on the investment fans already have in him from his tenure with the company. Dragon Lee would have made a lot more sense as he fits what ROH is looking for in-ring wise when it comes to guys that always wrestle like they have something to prove. That said I wouldn't be shocked at all if Stuka knocks it out of the park as he can still turn it on when need be.
  3. Yeah seriously to me Sullivan showing up was a major plus to the entire show and is a positive for ROH if they do have him involved in a semi permanent role behind the scenes as well.
  4. That's an example of cutting it a little short to make the marks want more
  5. The fact that they are doing weighs ins as a shoot is ridiculous but Ali in is an upgrade. I wonder if it's a work and the plan was always to have Ali in, Zumbi was one of the biggest head scratchers in the CWC
  6. I'm wondering what this & the recent CZW/WWN working relationship means for both wXw & CZW continuing to have their shows on the Highspots network. I've seen shows from recent shows from CZW showing up on Highspots even shows that have happened after they seemed to start working with WWN. wXw has seemed to slow down with bigger events showing up on Highspots as well most of the newest contend seems to be best of comps. A similar occurrence has happened with RPW who have not added anything to Highspots since they launched their own streaming service. Big picture I feel this is a step in the wrong direction as fragmenting the market is only going to encourage churn or people picking and choosing streaming services. A more all inclusive network like Highspots is going to win out and more companies should focus on working about a deal that benefits them with a network rather than just launching their own service unless they are willing to cut the price in half. Why would I pay the same price for a wXw only service when I could go with another company that will have the wXw shows eventually (and if I need to see it sooner I'll pirate) and many more options as well at the same price?
  7. How can we be sure?
  8. I haven't listened to the finally published version I wonder what Chad cut out?
  9. Just saw The Pretty Boy Killers vs Tought Guy Inc (god ROH team names can be awesomely bad) and yeah Keith Lee is quickly standing out huge as a guy that can really bring it in a unique way. After that I saw him against Dijak in Beyond which was also great and he has a match against Jeff Cobb in Limitless that should be coming out soon that could also be very impressive. I really hope ROH was smart enough to sign him and Shane Taylor as it's a step in the right direction for ROH. Taylor I have seen a lot less of but really together they give me a vibe similar to Da Hit Squad very scary but not just one dimensional brawlers. They really could help ROH in defining it's self as a place that is clearly other but not unequal to the cookie cutter style of WWE talent even if that stigma is starting to be less true in WWE.
  10. I could never get plex to work and it kept asking me to sign up for a paid acct so I gave up. The problem for me on Roku Youtube isn't the search but the actual player controls, it's impossible to ff or rewind and a lot of times if you try to skip ahead too much it will just crash. It's fine for must videos on Youtube because they tend to be under a hour but Beyond has shows that go over 4 hours they have started to break the shows into to parts obviously to help with this issue but still at 2 to 3 hour long videos it will crash if you are trying to skip to the mainevent.
  11. Even if I'm not a huge fan of this show at times and they became insufferable talking about NWA/WCW to the point that I unsubscribed, there is a part of me that is so obsessed with being a completist that I wish I had the ability to listen to all of these
  12. Oh man Cole v Rush could be really good
  13. I'm seeing End over Hero in the semi leading to End v Whiplash final. Just seems weird the only two with heat are on opposite sides of the bracket.
  14. OMG I fucking love that gimmick your are spot on with your analysis of it as well thank you so much for that. Not only for letting me know about that gimmick but, also for making me actually think about it in a different way.
  15. I'm going to recommend to both of you to save your notes on Google Drive that's what I do so I have them basically everywhere when I need them
  16. http://chucklehutt.libsyn.com/lucha-undead-26-cage-side-seats-wkeith-harris Should have posted this sooner but anyway we have special guest Keith Harris on as we talk about Applied Statistics, European take away, Some of the inter-workings of Cage Side Seats & their coverage of AJ Styles to WWE, Scotland, UK, & EU politics. While all of that is truly burring the lead as Keith maps out the only true pathway to peace for the Dixie vs UK Indy war. Check out his work at http://www.cagesideseats.com/authors/keith-harris
  17. In the bizarro world that is teens/tween twitter and tumblr. She's super hot right now I mean Tyga was willing to risk jail time for her.
  18. I assumed Trees was talking about Kylie Jenner Supremebve I can't disagree with you at all but how would you feel about Bill Cosby ass dude who was also a wrestler? Would that effect the way you rate his work?
  19. Yeah, in my experience as a black person it is that the whole "acting/talking white" thing is way overplayed. I'm from a fairly rough area(I lived next door to a guy who killed a couple people) and I don't think anyone said anything like that as anything other than a joke. I was at my aunt's funeral yesterday and a bunch of people got together afterwards. There was about as big of a mix of black people there as you'll ever see. We were at my Aunt's best friends house with lawyers, police, drug dealers, ministers, a college professor and everyone in between. A bunch of the guys were in the basement shooting pool and one of the most educated people in the room made fun a a local drug dealer for being a nerd for how long he was studying every shot. Nothing about this dude was a nerd except for how he played pool, but that is what was going on at the time so that was the joke. That is essentially every example of that nonsense that I've ever seen. Maybe people are super sensitive about that type of thing, but I've essentially been a book reading, grammar nazi, dork since I was a kid. Is that what people would bring up when we were snapping on each other? Yep, but do I think anyone ever thought I was less black because of it? Nope. I would never be perceived as a person on color, I don't necessarily consider myself one but I do have some Latino heritage. That being said most of my friends and acquaintances who are have openly talked about this as an issues at least at some point. While you are probably correct that it isn't that big of a deal because in the end you either are or you aren't black. I would say one thing thought that you are in a area that sounds very close knit, with people of many varying prosperity levels interacting but, could or would the community look at one of those lawyers differently if they suddenly started code-switching and stopped showing up for pool parties and other social events?
  20. What fakeplastictrees is talking about in some ways is a form of code-switching vs keeping real based on social pressures from both sides. I don't know if I would give all the credit for the creative and aesthetic decisions of each character to the performers playing them. Obviously R-Truth's gimmick seems to be an extension of who he is in his day to day life while Sasha Banks seems like she couldn't be more different from her character. So what about Naomi? I'd assume (not being a Total Divas viewer) that she is somewhere in-between. It seems to me that in Namoi's case the real question is was that character change really her choice? I remember some talk that her character seemed to be very similar to Sasha's and the change was made right around the time Sasha was starting to catch on big. Normally that would seem insane that WWE would be intentionally stealing character ideas from their own developmental but, that was coming off the heel of everyone comparing Miz's "money maker" gimmick to Tyler Breeze having a similar one. Now there might something to be something to Tree's over arching point that it seems that "black-wrestler" is a gimmick that really limits a performers upward mobility. But their have been other the years people pigeon-holed by their race that have still made it as top workers but, their legacy and legend seems to be looked at as less than case in point Bearcat Wright and JYD.
  21. The Big Wiggle seemed to play the Carl from Fresh Prince trope of a black man without rhythem or dancing like a white person so ,I could see an argument for that both ways as a similar story was told on Seinfeld with Elaine who was definitely not black. Fakeplastictrees I really love your post and it has a lot for me to unpack and respond to which I will get to when I have time.
  22. I hadn't seen your list until after I made this post and actually I think it speaks in some ways to my point. Some workers race because it was never part of their character while there are others that even if they didn't play a stereotypical character people don't question it at all. My questions are meant to everyone as I more than anything just want to hear other peoples opinions on the topic so thank you for yours.
  23. I knew Steamboat was a bad example because he also has "the dragon" nickname and martial artist gimmick but he didn't feel like he was meant to be seen as an Asian-Wrestler but maybe more like an Asian-American. Doesn't seem to make a huge difference I guess. I was also thinking of Irish as examples of "White-Wrestlers".
  24. Listening to the recent Wrestling Eye Podcast about Bearcat Wright. (http://wrestlingeye.libsyn.com/wrestling-observer-hall-of-fame-2016-candidate-series-bearcat-wright) The conversation got me thinking. Normally something someone says on a podcast wouldn’t drive me to make a separate thread but, I then saw this topic (http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?/topic/13026-best-black-wrestler-ever/) and that got me thinking about it once more. So my question for everyone is, what does it mean to be a “Black-Wrestler”? Someone like Bearcat Wright made his blackness part of his character, representing not just a black athlete but a black man of the day. He represented what he saw as the required rights of all black people, deserved not in the future but right then. Standing up so that he and other after would be treated as equals to anyone. Demanding to be respected and compensated for his efforts as any white person would be. The other side of this one example is Darren Young, whose blackness is as much a part of his character as his homosexuality is. So is Darren Young a “Black-Wrestler” or is he just a black man who happens to wrestling? What other races have a similar phenomenon? I can’t think of a single worker who was a “White-Wrestler” in the same way. However I can see some Asian, Samoan, or Mexican workers that were. Meanwhile Ricky Steamboat’s race never seemed to matter he was just a wrestler. Is there something wrong or racist with categorizing workers this way? Dose it speak to a bigoted view of a racial binary that you are either “real” or “acting white”?
  25. There does seem to be an over all trend in the podcast community to go longer and longer. At times you do here guests/hosts talk about the length of their episodes as if that in and of it's self is a positive quality. To be fair to them I completely understand the concept as you are in a way giving more product for the same price tag (in this case free) it's really done with everything.
