"Nature Boy" Ric Flair/Mystery Partner The Pringle Dynasty make their entrance first……Ric Flair makes his way down to the ring alone. (Landel grabs the mic) Landel: "I knew it Flair! I knew you were a liar when you said you had an 'old friend' coming to town because everybody knows you don't have any friends!" (hands the mic to Idol) Idol: "Well Buddy unless you count the Andersons…..but they know better than to come up here and mess with the Dynasty, baby!" Landel: "Tough luck, dummy! You asked for a tag match so now you're gonna have to face us in a handicap match! You didn't have a prayer of beating me one on one…..so you might just wanna go ahead and forfeit before we beat you to death in your real hometown!" (As Landel starts to say something else…the sound of BAGPIPES fill the arena as Flair's tag team partner strolls down the aisle towards the ring….sending the Dynasty into a panic) "Rowdy" Roddy Piper/Ric Flair slide into the ring and immediately we have a brawl on our hands!! After a couple of minutes the referee settles things down and we finally have a regular tag team match….despite clearly being the fan favorites here in Minneapolis, Flair and Piper are having fun blatantly breaking the rules behind the ref's back and the fans are eating it up! After several minutes of action, all four men are in the ring again…..as Flair slaps the figure four leglock on Landel while Piper locks Idol in a sleeper hold….when Pringle comes in and decks the referee causing a DQ……The Long Riders hit the ring and attack Flair and Piper……but quickly Curt Hennig/Scott Hall run in to even the odds causing the Pringle Dynasty to quickly powder out. Curt Hennig grabs the microphone and tells Pringle since he likes getting involved so much, he's knows somebody that will be more than happy to come even the odds in the future….Piper takes the mic and says, "Naitch, it looks like ol' Hot Rod might just need to stick around a while until we teach Prissy Pringle and the Village People some manners!" Flair takes the mic and simply adds, "WOOOOOO!!" MAIN EVENT AWA World Heavyweight Championship- REMATCH Stan 'the Lariat' Hansen pinned Ted Dibiase after a shoulder breaker to retain the championhip As the referee was raising Stan Hansen's hand in victory……Paul Jones led Nikita Koloff into the ring and Nikita got right into Hansen's face and they got into a shoving match which was quickly broken up by security and local police officers but it was quite intense none the less leaving the entire crowd on it's feet cheering for Hansen by default being the American who just beat the hated Dibiase.
  3. AWA drops Brad Rheingans and picks up Larry Hennig
  4. AWA Championship Wrestling Recorded: April 3, 1985 Airing: Saturday April 4, 1985 nationwide on ESPN The Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, New Jersey (After the music intro Larry Nelson has breaking news that in a shocking development, Stan 'the Lariat' Hansen has defeated Ted Dibiase in Winnipeg to win the AWA World Heavyweight Championship! Before he can say anymore Ivan Koloff storms the set and says the only reason Stan Hansen is the World Champion is because Nikita Koloff wasn't allowed to compete in the battle royal and that Krusher Kruschev nearly won it anyway…..He said that clearly joining with Jimmy Hart was a mistake but Nikita handled that problem last week, but now he has contacted his only ally in the United States to come and handle their business moving forward…his great comrade…'#1' Paul Jones! Paul Jones enters the shot. Jones: "Larry Nelson, it's been a total disgrace the way my friends from the Soviet Union have been treated recently….that idiot Jimmy Hart had no business dealing with athletes the caliber of these men….that's why he paraded around here in a mask for months and then tried to deny it with that idiotic charade at Super Sunday. Now….let's state some facts! Fact #1- The Koloffs and Krusher Krushev are your World Tag Team Champions whether you like it or not. Fact #2- 'the Russian Nightmare' Nikita Koloff is the most genetically superior athlete in the sport of professional wrestling today! Look at all the people he's eliminated from the AWA in just the past thirty days…..the Armstrong Family, Brad Rheingans, Ken Patera, Jimmy Hart, Dusty Rhodes, and the list goes on….and if he would have been allowed to be in that battle royal he'd be your AWA World Champion right now…..and make no mistake he'll be your World Champion just as soon as Verne Gagne has the guts to give him a shot. I have my lawyers fighting this bogus suspension as we speak but right now while he's suspended he's back in Moscow continuing to train and make himself even more invincible than he already is….not to mention he's helping to prepare our "secret weapon" who will be unleashed on the AWA very soon. Stan Hansen, you're no champion….you're a pretender and a coward if you don't face Nikita Koloff for that championship…and if you don't like it…then come do something about it you dumb Texas hick!" Nelson: "Mr. Jones, while we just met….I'll offer you some sage advice….You don't want to provoke Stan Hansen." Jones: "Larry Nelson….here's some sage advice for YOU….mind your own damn business!" Nelson: "Very well….good luck with that….Coming up later tonight, we've got that huge grudge match featuring the 'Battle of the Nature Boys' if you will as Ric Flair takes on Buddy Landel and also our first look at the Fiesta Garden as Al Madril welcomes 'Luscious Johnny V' who promises to unveil his new star…plus much, much more but right now let's go to the ring!" ======================== Match #1: The Killer Bees (B. Brian Blair/Brad Armstrong) defeated Buck Jones/Henry Moody when Brad pinned Jones with a sunset flip off the top rope ======================== COMMERCIAL: ======================== Match #2: The Great Kabuki w/Mr. Fuji defeated Jed Jackson with the 'Oriental Spike' ======================== (We cut to Al Madril standing on the set of the Fiesta Garden) Madril: "HOLA! For those that don't know….and if not shame on you…..I'm the 'Latin Legend' Al Madril and this mi amigos is….THE FIESTA GARDEN, your new favorite tv show! First of all I'd just like to say hello to my very best friend in the world, Hercules Hernandez….even if you aren't here with me…..you're here in spirit mi amigo! Now, I have a great guest here tonight on the Fiesta Garden who will be introducing you to someone you're going to love……but first I'd like to introduce you to my NEW co-host and great friend…..the one and only, CHICKY STARR…come on out Chicky!" (Chicky Starr comes out in a suit and matching fedora, he hugs Madril) Starr: "Alberto….thank you so much for making me your co-host on the hottest show on television…the Fiesta Garden!" Madril: "Chicky, it's my pleasure to have you here!" Starr: "I've taken the liberty of bringing someone with me from Puerto Rico….he's my personal bodyguard….and from now on….he's your's as well…..I call him… TNT!" (TNT comes out and stands behind Chicky) Madril: "Whoah….I've heard of this guy…he's trained in numerous martial arts and is a certified 'lethal weapon' is he not?" Starr: "Damn right he is…..if anyone wants to come here and make trouble for us…..they've got to get through TNT." Madril: "DY-NO-MITE!.....See what I did there? Like the black guy on tv?" Starr: "Absolutely….GOOD TIMES!" Madril: (laughing) "See, you get it…this is gonna be great! Well, without further ado.." Starr: "Come on….just a little more ado…" Madril: "Alright Chicky…..just for you….some more ado." Starr: "Ok, that's enough…..let's get this show on the road, amigo." Madril: "Si! So please welcome our special guest, 'Luscious' Johnny Valiant along with Sherri Martel and The California Connection, John Tatum and Eric Embry!" (Johnny V, Sherri, Tatum, and Embry all walk on the now cramped set) Valiant: "Thanks for having us, Alberto….and you too Chicky….it's great to be here!" Embry: "Wow, I've never been on a Mexican tv show before….shouldn't we be speaking Mexican or somethin' so they can understand us?" Starr: "No Eric, this airs on ESPN on the regular AWA show, amigo." Embry: "Oh…thanks Cheech…I didn't know." Starr: "That's Chicky." Embry: "Chicky? John, you said we were going on Cheech and Chong tonight?…" Tatum: "Shut up Eric! It was a joke, you weren't supposed to say that out here…" Martel: "Jesus Eric, it was a rib….you can't call them Mexicans to their face." Chicky: "I'm from Puerto Rico dude…." Madril: "OK Johnny………this is getting way off track so I hear you have someone you want to introduce to us tonight exclusively here on the Fiesta Garden." Embry: "No disrespect….but I was promised queso dip.." Valiant: "For Pete's sake, Embry!" (Tatum pulls Embry off camera) My apologies guys…..anyways….you're right Alberto…..I'm about to introduce the AWA to the greatest entertainer in the world today…..not only is he an amazing wrestler….he's an amazing singer, dancer, and musician…..Ladies and Gentlemen, I present you to right here on the Fiesta Garden…THE HONKY TONK MAN!!" (An instrumental version of CC Rider plays as HTM enters) HTM: "Thank ya Colonel…thank ya very much! Alberto, Chico thank you two as well." Chicky: "That's Chicky…not Chico." HTM: "My apologies Cheeky…..I want to thank all my fans for coming out to see me tonight! You're a beautiful audience, I love every one of ya! Colonel, tell everybody why I'm here." Madril: "Whose the Colonel?" Valiant: "That's me! I'm Col. Jimmy Valiant, baby! The Honky Tonk Man is here first and foremost to entertain everyone and draw a crowd….but he's also here to win championships! That's all the fans get tonight….but tomorrow night in Minneapolis….fans will see the in ring debut of the Honky Tonk Man! Once again, thanks for having us here on the Fiesta Garden." (Johnny V and company exit) Starr: "Wow….I'm not sure what to say right now….the one moron thought this was Telemundo and we should serve him cheese dip." Madril: "Yeah….that just happened….So, that's all for this week's episode of the Fiesta Garden, for my co-host the incomparable CHICKY Starr and the most dangerous man in the world, TNT…I’m Alberto Madril…..saying tune in next week when we'll be joined by that fat weirdo, Captain Lou Albano, adios!" ======================== COMMERCIAL: ======================== Match #3: Mr. Olympia pinned Frank Reynolds following a 'DDT' ======================== (Backstage: Ken Resnick is joined by a very annoyed former World Champion Ted Dibiase) Resnick: "I'm joined by the former AWA World Heavyweight Champion Ted Dibiase…" Dibiase: "Oh you all like saying that don't you? I see that smirk on your face. What a joke this company has become….Dino Bravo decides he's scared to challenge me so what does that senile old fool Verne Gagne decide to do? He has a 20 man battle royal to decide a challenger for my title? A battle royal?? Why not just do a raffle? How about you just draw straws or have the 10th caller to a radio station get a title shot….what a joke!" Resnick: "Well Mr. Dibiase….in his defense the winner of the battle royal was able to defeat you.." Dibiase: "It was that lunatic Stan Hansen! How was I supposed to prepare for Stan Hansen with two hours notice?" Resnick: "He has been saying ever since he arrived in the AWA that he's coming for you." Dibiase: "Shut your mouth, Resnick…..I don't have time to stand here and argue with you! I've invoked my rematch clause for tomorrow night in Minneapolis….and this time I'll be prepared….no surprises tomorrow night….I'll get my belt back….mark my words! ======================== Match #4: The Long Riders (Bill/Scott Irwin) w/Percival Pringle III defeated Parker Williams/Fred Garvin when Scott pinned Garvin after a superplex ======================== COMMERCIAL: ======================== Match #5: NWA North American Champion Tommy "Wildfire" Rich pinned The Flame with a 'Thesz Press' Post Match Promo w/Ken Resnick: Rich says he's 'farred up' and that he's coming for Buzz Sawyer the low life that stole his title and that he'll do whatever it takes to regain his belt and to run Sawyer out of the AWA…….As Rich leaves Stan Hansen comes storming in toting the AWA World title…. Resnick: "I'm joined by the brand new AWA World Champion Stan 'the Lariat' Hansen…..Champ, congrats on your victory." Hansen: "Shut the hell up, I don't need no congratulations! I just got here and somebody told me that some idiot named Tom Jones….or Jim Jones…or some such was out here talkin' about me fightin' some Russian….sayin' I'm skeered to fight him….Well you listen to me and listen good Jones….I'll put this belt on the line against anybody as long as they pay me! I ain't skeered of nobody! Now, I've been told tomorrow night Dibiase gets a rematch for this belt…and then on Monday I'll be flying to Japan for another tour over there." Resnick: "I understand if you successfully defend the title tomorrow night against Dibiase you'll be defending the title in Japan, specifically against Jumbo Tsuruta in Tokyo." Hansen: (snatches the mic away) "What the hell do you mean 'IF' I successfully defend the title against Dibiase….of course I will….I beat him in Winnipeg…..and I'll beat him in Minneapolis or any other damn place they book me to rassle him, you understand that, boy!?!" Resnick: "Yes sir, I certainly do." Hansen: "Good! That's all I got to say! Bye!!" (Hansen shoves him down and storms off) ======================== COMMERCIAL: ======================== Match #6: MAIN EVENT 'Battle of the Nature Boys' "Nature Boy" Ric Flair vs. "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel w/Percival Pringle III The match starts slowly with both circling each other strutting and preening like a weird mirror image of one another then finally things got down to business and the two exchanged a series of hard chops back and forth which really got the crowd involved "Wooo'ing" back and forth. Flair took the upper hand and things going in his favor for a couple of minutes until a distraction from Pringle allowed Landel to take over…..Landel worked Flair over for a bit before going for his big "corkscrew elbow drop" which Flair moved out of the way of….and then locked in this patented figure four leglock! Landel seemed closed to submission when Pringle came in and stomped Flair in the chest breaking up the hold and causing the referee to call for the DQ! Flair jumped up and started backing Pringle in a corner getting ready to strike when from out of nowhere………… AUSTIN IDOL hit the ring and jumped Flair from behind! Landel and Idol put the boots to Flair until Curt Hennig and Scott Hall hit the ring armed with steel chairs causing the 'Pringle Dynasty' to make a quick exit! A livid Flair grabbed the house mic. Flair: "That's how you wanna do it? Huh? I thought you wanted to settle this Landel? I'll tell you what….Austin Idol…if you wanna get involved, that's fine! How about tomorrow night in Minneapolis, we have us a tag team match…..I've got an old friend that's coming to visit me….and I'm quite sure he's just fine with putting on the boots and trunks and having a little fun giving a wrestling lesson to you two wannabes! WOOOOOOOOOO!!!" © 1985 American Wrestling Association
  5. Great show as always.....I can't put over enough how well you've captured the feel of the WWF from this time period As Spaldoni mentioned, DJ Peterson had all the potential to be a huge star in the business, not sure why it never really happened but I'm excited to see what happens for him here in the WWF The Fantastics call the Bulldogs out on their shit....this could be a feud every bit as good or better than the Bulldogs vs. Harts IRL, with the Bulldogs as heels with Heenan..there's all sorts of fun to be had here! The Gunslingers are a fun combination who are PERFECT for this era of the WWF......and needless to say feuding with the Tribe just makes sense. M.A.S.K.- wow, that brings back some memories! Snuka is back and Backlund is f'n pissed! Another picture perfect heel Backlund promo.....and I too picked up on the subtle Bruno/Backlund tension....go there! please! Great Heenan promo that could hear every word in his voice as I read it. Bundy joins the Heenan Family which is quickly becoming the premier group in the WWF, looking forward to seeing how joins the clan next week! A valet for "Mr. Magnificent would be perfect....let's see where this goes! Hooray...The Candyman returns next week!!
  6. Great way to start the show and put Cooley on the level with Bockwinkel as someone who could potentially have his number in a title match Impressive debut for Sivi Afi, I look forward to seeing him get into the mix here in the USWA! As a kid the promos that were "at home" or "on location" somewhere always stuck out to me and got my attention....for some reason that classic promo where Bill Mercer goes into bar to interview the Freebirds sticks out in my mind to this very day. I enjoyed it with Kerry here.....Mike Miller is on trouble. Let's jump to the house shows! Big win for the Karachi Vice in Louisville....I love that the Singhs are picking up where they left with Bruce Hart here in the USWA on television! Not sure if Ron Bass strictly has an issue with Rip Oliver but a Bass/Blanchard alliance here could be a major problem for everyone in the USWA. Rick Martel vs. Johnny Rich had to be an entertaining contest! The Grapplers keep racking up the wins/successful title defenses! On to Memphis...... Don Kernodle establishes himself with the Memphis crowd getting a win over "Captain" Ron! Another wild brawl between The Battens and The Armstrongs! This feud is likely to spill blood all over the territory before all is said and done! The Movement are champions once again! The Grapplers better watch their backs! The Lawler/Adonis feud has been wild and violent up til now....it appears things make be going to another level soon. I was cheering for Cooley but even coming up short against the champ, as you pointed out he's still a made man after hanging with the champion like that......Cooley's time will come!

  9. Huge return to the Garden by the WWF! The tag team title tournament matches did not disappoint....great move by the Tribe to stick it to the Gunslingers and turn up the heat on their rivalry! Fantastics barely make it to the finals after a heinous post match attack from Volkoff/Sheik while the Bulldogs have a classic with the Islanders! The fans I'm sure were very happy to see Sarge in action even if it was a bit of a squash. Andre doing what Andre does best....winning a big battle royal! Good stuff!! Wow!! I love when I get surprised and I didn't see the Bulldogs going with Heenan....I love it! He makes a great mouthpiece for the new champs! Backlund retains!! Can't wait to hear what he has to say about it!
  10. AWA Championship Wrestling Recorded: March 18, 1985 Airing: Saturday March 28, 1985 nationwide on ESPN The Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, New Jersey (Highlights from 'Super Sunday' are shown and we then go to our host Larry Nelson who runs down what's on tap for tonight's show and then sends it over to the ring for our first match) ============================== Match #1: The California Connection ("Hollywood" John Tatum/"Malibu" Eric Embry) w/Johnny V defeated Parker Williams/Lonnie Jameson when Tatum pinned Jameson after a double DDT (Ken Resnick approaches the California Connection and Johnny V as they are leaving the ring) Resnick: "Johnny V, a tremendous victory for your new team….can you tell us what your plans are here in the AWA?" Valiant: "What are our plans? I'll tell you what our plans are…..going straight to the top just like Sherri Martel did when she took the AWA Ladies Championship from Candi Devine last Sunday…and if Wendi Richter thinks she's taking that title….she's got another thing coming!" Resnick: "I've also heard it said that you have another 'ace' up your sleeve?" Valiant: "Oh let me tell you Ken Resnick….as great The California Connection are…..and as great as Sherri Martel is……I'm going to be bringing the single greatest entertainer in all the world right here to the AWA….very, very soon! That's all I'm going to let you in on right now!" ============================== COMMERCIALS: ============================== Match #2: Stan 'the Lariat' Hansen pinned Randy Watson after a 'lariat' After the match Hansen picked up Watson and threw him over the top rope and out to the floor…..Hansen then grabbed a microphone…"Verne Gagne, you listen to me and listen good!! I want Ted Dibiase in this ring for that AWA World title….and I'm going beat the living hell outta everybody who stands in my way to git there!!" Hansen flips the time keepers table over before storming back to the locker room ============================== (Highlights from the AWA World Title Match between Ted Dibiase/Ric Flair are shown including the interference of Percy Pringle and Buddy Landel allowing Dibiase to retain the title/we then go to the ring with Larry Nelson as "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel and Percy Pringle make their way down the aisle to join him in the ring) Nelson: "My guests at this time are none other than Percival Pringle the third and the 'Nature Boy' Buddy Landel." Landel: "Larry Nelson, despite the fact you look like you should be a cashier at the local Pep Boys I'm none the less impressed that you got Mr. Pringle's name right and didn't call him Percy, so for now….you're on my good side." Nelson: "I'm thrilled to hear that Mr. Landel, but let's talk about what everyone wants to hear…..why did you interfere on Ted Dibiase's behalf at Super Sunday?" Landel: "Wow…and in record time you completely ruined it by jumping right to that….what type of journalist are you? You couldn't ask a few ice breaker questions before diving into that topic?" Nelson: "Ok….fine….what brings you to the AWA, Mr. Landel?" Landel: "Your ignorance knows no bounds Larry Nelson, are you sure your last name isn't really Platt? What brings me to the AWA? Umm, you mean besides the fact that I'm MR. AWA?? Where else would I be? Should I be in the NWA where they have a big walking mustache as a World Champion? Should I be in the WWF where they've got a psychotic Howdy Doody as champion? I guess I should've went back to the USWA to get screwed by the so called King and Jerky Jarrett?" Nelson: "Alright Buddy, we don't need a run down of every territory you could've went to…." Landel: "Oh I can tell….I'm NOT going to like you at all. Fine, I'll answer you're damn question…I didn't interfere on Dibiase's behalf….I interfered AGAINST Ric Flair…..the bogus wannabe 'Nature Boy'….what better way to make my presence felt than to interfere in his match…..not that Ted Dibiase needed it because he would've beaten Flair anyway…" (The theme from 2001 plays) Nelson: "Well speaking of Mr. Ric Flair…..here he comes right now." (Flair comes down the aisle to a huge pop from the fans) Landel: "Flair, this is MY time…what the hell are you doing out here?" (Flair snatches the mic away) Flair: "Tropicana….it's time for the real NATURE BOY to set the record straight….WOOOOOOO! Buddy Landel, you know damn good and well that I heard every word you said about me down in Continental last year and when you heard I was coming there…..you suddenly disappeared. You ran away to the USWA to hide…..NOW you suddenly want my attention again, Budro? Well now you have it…..you cost me the AWA World Heavyweight Championship last week and if you thought we're going to play some game of cat and mouse where you come out here week after week after week running your mouth about the real Nature Boy, pal you've got another thing coming…..I'm out here right now to challenge you to a match right here on television next week!! So put up or shut up! You either face me here next week one on one….or take your low budget Ric Flair wannabe act to one of those other companies you just mentioned." (Pringle steps in) PP3: "Ric Flair, you've got a lot of nerve to come out here and trash talk 'Mr. AWA' Buddy Landel. You aren't half the Nature Boy that Buddy Landel is and what makes you think you can just challenge him for a match here on television next week?" Flair: "I wasn't talking to you, fat boy so keep your mouth shut! Listen Landel, we can have a wrestling match next week…..or better yet, how about I just kick your ass right now! (starts taking off his robe) Landel: "Settle down Richard, I'll be more than happy to wrestle you next week….and give you the ol' rub as they say in the business that clearly YOU are so desperately looking for, Just promise me this Flair, promise me that we can face each other one on one and settle this like men…..no interference from any of your buddies….don't have the fat Indian out here….or whatever friends you have left after the Russians get done with them tonight." WOOOOO!" ============================== Match #3: "Comrade" Ken Patera w/Jimmy Hart defeated Mike Hunt by submission with the full nelson ============================== COMMERCIALS: ============================== Match #4: Curt Hennig/Scott Hall defeated Frank Reynolds/Buster Scruggs when Hennig pinned Scruggs with a sunset flip from the 2nd rope……..As the referee is raising the hands of Hennig and Hall, Percy Pringle returns to ringside and starts badmouthing Hennig/Hall…..As Hennig and Hall lean over the rope and ask him what his problem is……from behind come…. THE LONG RIDERS- Bill/Scott Irwin hit the ring and attacks Hennig and Hall from behind….they get the better of them for a few moments, but quickly Hall and Hennig make a comeback and the Irwins powder out and join Pringle out on the floor as they leave ringside while talking trash to Hennig/Hall. ============================== (Ken Resnick is joined by Buzz Sawyer who is wearing the AWA North American Championship belt…he says he sold the other two belts since they are "retired" now but he's quite sure Tommy Rich isn't man enough to take this North American belt from him so that makes him the champion by default) ============================== COMMERCIALS: ============================== Match #5: "Canadian Strongman" Dino Bravo pinned Roy Munson following a gut wrench suplex ============================== Before the Main Event, Larry Nelson informs us that next week we'll see the debut of 'The Great' Al Madril and his Fiesta Garden!, as well as the debut of the new tag team of Brad Armstrong & Brian Blair, plus the long awaited 'Battle of the Nature Boys' as Ric Flair takes on Buddy Landel w/Percy Pringle right here next week! After the match Nikita hit Dusty with the sickle and wrapped the chain around his neck and started choking him relentlessly….to the point that even Jimmy Hart started to get uncomfortable and tried to get Nikita to let go, screaming "you won baby! This isn't necessary!" Nikita finally listened and let go of Rhodes….he then wrapped the chain around Jimmy Hart's neck and hung him over the top rope!! Ken Patera came running down to try and save him but was cut off by Ivan and Kruschev!! They beat down on Patera until Nikita noticed and let go of Jimmy Hart allowing him to fall limp to the floor….Ivan/Krusher hold up Patera and Nikita runs through him with the 'Russian Sickle' as well…as he wraps the chain around Patera's neck……Verne Gagne comes down with several police officers to break things up…..before they make it into the ring, Rod Trongard informs us, "We're out of time, we'll bring you the outcome of this intense situation right here next week on ESPN!" © 1985 American Wrestling Association
  11. Great spot in the battle royal to fire up the crowd even more for the Lawler/Adonis feud! I LOVE that Wendell Cooley was the winner, he will make a great opponent for Nick Bockwinkel and even if he doesn't prevail, that's a great learning experience for him at this stage of his career! Loving the singles run here for Ron Bass! Great Six Man Tag with the Central States tag champs on one side and the Central States heavyweight champ on the other side....nice win for the Naturals/Carlos! I would love to see Rip Oliver tie up with Ron Bass at some point....just sayin' The Armstrongs vs. The Batten Twins/Southern Justice is a feud that could have legs for quite some time....a lot of options here! Awesome main event that furthers the Lawler/Adonis feud while continuing to build up the Grapplers as the top team in the territory! Great show!
  12. The Islanders are another solid addition to the tag team division! "The Candy Man" Ray Candy is amazing...."the chocolate drop" is the best finish name ever...I'm looking forward to seeing what the Candy Man does here in the WWF and out from under that Zambuie Express gimmick that just never seems to get over anywhere no matter how hard anyone had tried. Nailed the Sarge promo....I think he's going to be a huge star here not being in the shadow of anyone else....brother! The British Bulldogs have to be the favorites in the tag title tournament but there's a lot of other great teams so it's anybody's ball game!
  13. Great show! I agree with Blehschmidt, you are the Paul Heyman of our game where you able to see characters in people that often go overlooked. Your creativity with gimmicks and characters is one of the really fun aspects of the game. Excited to see the Karachi Vice here in the USWA, they will be a great addition to an already solid tag roster. I have a feeling that Mike Miller is going to have hell to pay when Kerry shows back up! The Armstrongs against the newly christened 'Southern Justice' should make for some exciting tag matches. A pissed off Tully can't be good for anybody! Can't wait to see who emerges from the battle royal to challenge Bock for the title.

(Hansen grabs the mic and shoves Resnick out of sight) Hansen: "Shut your damn mouth Mr. Microphone man…..These people know who I am…and just know this….I'm here in the AWA to make money…..I'm not here to make friends…and I don't care if you fans cheer me or boo me…..I'm here to get paid….and the people who get paid the most are the ones with those pretty little belts around their waist…..so I'm putting everybody in the AWA on notice….if you hold a title….Stan Hansen is coming for you!" ============================== (Luscious Johnny V joins Trongard and Blears on commentary….he says he takes issue with Captain Lou because he has a tag team that's coming to the AWA and the Samoan Swat Team better steer clear of them….but more importantly, he has signed Sherri Martel to a contract and if Wendi Richter is smart, she'll go right back where she came from!) --------------------------------------------------- The Samoan Swat Team (Samu/Fatu) w/Capt. Lou Albano & Wendi Richter defeated The P.Y.T. Tommy Rich is now the AWA North American Champion! After the referee raises Rich's hand and presents him with the new championship belt…..Buzz Sawyer attacks him from behind and lays him out….Sawyer takes the belt and smashes Rich in the face with twice! Rich is busted wide open as Sawyer takes all three belts and storms off with them ============================== VTR: Highlights are shown of the rampage that the AWA World Tag Team Champions the Russians…namely Nikita Koloff have been on lately injuring Scott & Steve Armstrong, Gama Singh, the Tonga Kid, and just last night 'Bullet' Bob Armstrong……Can the High Flyers stop the carnage and take the titles here tonight?? ============================== TITLE UNIFICATION MATCH National Titles vs. Great Lakes Titles The Rock & Roll Express (Ricky Morton/Robert Gibson) defeated The Super Destroyers (#1/#2) w/The Marvelous Masked Manager when Super D #2 went for the super plex but Morton managed to shift his weight to come down on top of Super D #2 and hooked his legs for the three count! The Rock & Roll Express are now the AWA North American Tag Team Champions! =============================== COMMERCIALS: Coming up later on ESPN highlights of the USFL's game of the week! =============================== AWA Ladies Championship Sherri Martel w/Johnny V pinned Candi Devine with her feet on the ropes to win the championship! ================================ VTR: Highlight video- Coming soon to the AWA "The Universal Heartthrob" Austin Idol! ================================ Masks vs. Dusty Leaving the AWA "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes pinned Mr. USA, the Olympic Grappler w/The Marvelous Masked Manager after a DDT Post Match: Dusty got on the mic and told Mr. USA and the Marvelous Masked Manager to keep their word and remove those masks or he'll remove them for them. After a few moments of hesitation….Mr. USA removed his mask to reveal Brad Rheingans to the surprise of pretty much no one at all…..Marvelous Masked Manager reaches up and starts to unlace his mask but then turns to run away but is caught in the aisle by Rheingans who brings him back in the ring to Rhodes…..Rhodes starts to untie the mask and right as he's about to remove the mask…..Nikita Koloff, Ivan Koloff, Krusher Kruschev, Ken Patera, and JIMMY HART all hit the ring and attack Rhodes and Rheingans….the Masked Manager runs away as Jimmy Hart runs around the ring like a madman wearing a red suit with a big yellow hammer and sickle on the back wearing a big furry Russian Hat! Patera and Kruschev focus on beating down Rheingans while the Koloffs choke Rhodes with their chain……Ken Resnick comes down to ringside and asks Jimmy Hart to come speak to him…which seemingly ends the attack on Rhodes and Rheingans. Resnick: "Jimmy Hart, what the heck is going on here…..people have speculated for months that YOU have been the Marvelous Masked Manager….and now just as it seemed that was about to be revealed here you are with Patera and the Russians?? What's going on here?" Hart: "First of all….let me just say this is the greatest day of my life baby…..and you can just call me the 'Mouth of Moscow', baby!" (cackles) Resnick: "If not you……then who was the Marvelous Masked Manager??" Hart: "How should I know baby? It certainly wasn't me…are you kidding me? That guy was a clown…a goof….that's why we chose tonight to show up baby…..We KNEW that masked idiot couldn't get the job done and certainly not with Brad Rheingans under a mask being his master plan….you see the Russians here….they've already been running rough shod all over the AWA, baby and now with myself leading them and the addition of 'Comrade' Ken Patera….we can't be stopped!" Resnick: "Comrade Ken Patera? So, first you sold out your country to be a Sheik, and now you've joined up with the Russians??" Patera: "Ken Resnick…..this will be the only time you get a pass for that sort of disrespect….next time I'll lock you in a full nelson until your head pops off!" Hart: (laughing) "That's right Ken Resnick, you show this man some respect….this is the greatest collection of athletes in wrestling today….we've got the World Tag Team titles….soon we'll be coming for the rest!" ======================================= COMMERCIALS- Busch Beer: "Head for the Mountains" ======================================= Semi-Main Event AWA World Tag Team Championship The Russians (Nikita/Kruschev) w/Jimmy Hart & Ivan Koloff defeated The High Flyers (Gagne/Brunzell) when Nikita pinned Gagne after the 'Russian Sickle' ======================================== (Ken Resnick is in the dressing room with Dusty Rhodes and Brad Rheingans who are both bandaged up from the beating at the hands of the Russians) Resnick: "Dream, I have to say these are very strange circumstances to see you here in the dressing with the man you did battle with here earlier tonight." Rhodes: "Strange circumstances you say…..well lemme tell ya somethin' Ken Resnick…..I would call having Jimmy Hart run into the ring as I'm about to pull the mask off a man I was positive was Jimmy Hart…..strange circumstances. I'd call having a man who was once an Olympian for these very United States come in with a gang of Russians calling himself 'Comrade'….strange circumstances if you will……so yes sitting here with Brad Rheingans whom less than a hour ago I was doing battle with, now sitting here contemplating how WE are going to get revenge on these Russians….strange circumstances……but lemme tell ya this….I've fought this man, I trust this man…and so that being said, baby….we're layin' out a challenge if you will…..not for next month….not for next year……we are layin at out a challenge for next week on television……myself, the American Dream Dusty Rhodes, and the Olympian himself Brad Rheingans….against the Russians for them World Tag Team titles….and if we lose the match….WE'LL BOTH leave the AWA…..so it's nut cuttin time you understand?…..put up or shut up…..all on the line….right here on ESPN! Jimmy Hart, do your boys have the guts?" Resnick: "I understand that Larry Nelson has just entered the locker room of the Russians in hopes of getting a response." (cuts to Larry Nelson in the Russians' locker room) Nelson: "Thanks Ken, I'm here with Jimmy Hart and his crew…..Jimmy, did you hear the challenge from 'the American Dream' Dusty Rhodes and Brad Rheingans?" Hart: (laughing) "Are you kidding me? Of course we did, baby! I told you earlier this was the greatest day of my life but when we run Dusty Rhodes and Brad Rheingans out of the AWA THAT will truly be the greatest day of my life!" Ivan: "Dusty Road…you are truly a very stupid man….after the beating we put on you every time you have encountered us…..you are willing to put your career on the line….well Dusty Road….and Brad Ragin we will be more than happy to rid ourselves of both you." Patera: "Alright Nelson, get the hell out of here….we've got celebrating to do. ======================================== Main Event AWA World Championship Ted Dibiase Vs. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair The match starts out pretty hot due to the recent issues between Dibiase/Flair involving Ray Stevens….within the first few minutes, Percival Pringle III comes to ringside and Flair tells him to "get lost"…..Pringle sits down and seems to be taking notes……A lot of great back and forth action for 27 minutes until Flair gets the upper hand and locks in the figure four leglock…..Pringle gets up on the apron and calls over the referee….while the ref is distracted, from out of nowhere BUDDY LANDEL slides in and hits Flair with his corkscrew elbow drop then quickly rolls out and heads up the aisle……Dibiase crawls over and covers Flair for the 1--2--3!! Pringle quickly leaves ringside as Dibiase rolls out of the ring and gets his belt seemingly unaware of everything that just took place with Pringle and Landel…..Flair struggles to get back to his feet trying to figure what exactly just happened…. Trongard: "Lord James Blears, this leaves us with some questions…..was Pringle really trying to recruit Ric Flair before or was it always his intention to bring this other 'Nature Boy'…….Buddy Landel in all along??" Blears: "Not to mention, was Dibiase a part of this? Is he associated with Pringle or Landel? A lot of questions to be answered here." Trongard: "Join us next weekend for AWA Championship Wrestling where we'll hopefully be able to shed some light on all this controversy! Thank you fans for joining us for Super Sunday!" © 1985 American Wrestling Association
  16. AWA places Sting on the block
  17. Solid card here! Good win here for Johnny Rich! I'm rooting for the heel "Memphis Mafia Man"! I agree with Kevin, I'm excited to see Ron Bass as a single here in USWA...he could have great matches with Kerry/Cooley/Lawler or Armstrong over time! The Movement will be looking for the Grapplers sooner or later...looking forward to them challenging for the titles Rip Oliver is victorious! I think he will fit in great here! Was pulling for Cooley here but Ayala is on a roll! The Central States tag champs hold their own with the USWA tag champs....I'm sure this is far from over Bullet Bob pulls off another victory but I'm very interested in The Battens seemingly aligning with Tully and Baby Doll...this is going to be interesting!
  18. AWA Championship Wrestling Recorded: March 18, 1985 Airing: Saturday March 21, 1985 nationwide on ESPN The Tropicana Hotel & Casino Atlantic City, New Jersey Larry Nelson welcomes everyone to the show and reminds everyone about tomorrow's big event 'Super Sunday' here on ESPN before pitching it to the ring! ============================ Match #1: The Samoan Swat Team (Samu/Fatu) w/Capt. Lou Albano & Wendi Richter defeated The Hammer Brothers (Jack/Sledge) when Fatu pinned Jack after a splash off the top rope ============================= (Larry Nelson is joined in the interview area by 'Nature Boy' Ric Flair) Nelson: "Naitch, tomorrow night you get your shot at the AWA World Heavyweight Champion, Ted Dibiase…." Flair: "WOOOOOO! Larry Nelson…..tomorrow night Ted Dibiase gets a dose of reality…..after the disrespect he showed my friend Ray Stevens….I can't wait to get my hands on him and not only teach him some respect but to take that AWA World Heavyweight Championship and show everybody why….the Nature Boy….is the man…WOOOO!" (As Nelson gets ready to ask another question, Percival Pringle III enters the frame) Nelson: "Umm, Percy Pringle……I'm not sure what you are doing out here but as you can see, this is Ric Flair's time." PP3: "First of all, you DO NOT call me Percy….you will refer to me as Percival Pringle, the third! Second of all…I realize this is Mr. Flair's time…that's why I'm out here to speak to Mr. Flair. You see Mr. Flair, there's no doubt that you are one of the greatest wrestlers in the world today…bar none! There's only one thing you're missing….and you're looking at him!" Flair: "With all due respect, Mr. Pringle…..I don't think a fat man with bleach blond hair and a thrift store suit is what I'm missing….now if you'll excuse me I've got a World Championship match tomorrow." (Flair goes to leave but Pringle steps in front of him) PP3: "Hold on Mr. Flair, I'm going to excuse and forgive that disrespect….this one time….but what I'm well aware you have a shot at the World Championship tomorrow…..and what I'm telling you is if you join my Pringle Dynasty, you WILL walk out of St. Paul the AWA World Champion. However, if you make the mistake of blowing me off or disrespecting me again….I promise you….you won't!" Flair: "Listen here PERCY…..I don't take kindly to threats and I don't have time for you or your foolishness right now….so I'm once again going to step around you and if you get your fat butt in my way again…..I'm going to knock you on it….understand?" (Flair steps around Pringles and exits the interview area) PP3: "That's fine…..good luck 'Nature Boy'…..you'll wish you had a manager when Ted Dibiase beats you like the second rate phony you really are." Nelson: "Let's get back to the ring." ============================= Match #2: Mr. Olympia pinned Randy Watson following a DDT (Post Match: Ken Resnick joins Mr. Olympia at ringside) Resnick: "Mr. Olympia, you've wrestled all over the country and let me be the first to welcome you here to the AWA." Olympia: "I'm very excited to be here, some of the very best athletes in the wrestling world compete here in the AWA and I look forward to stepping in the ring with some of them very soon." Resnick: "In fact you've already started, you recently went to a 20 minute time limit draw with Jumbo Tsuruta one of the top heavyweight wrestlers from Japan. I understand you will be facing him again soon in a rematch that will have a 30 minute time limit." Olympia: "That's right, Jumbo Tsuruta is as tough as they come, and hopefully this time with 30 minutes to compete instead of only 20, I'll be able to pull out a victory." Resnick: "Well, we certainly wish you the best of luck against not only Jumbo Tsuruta but against all the competition here in the AWA." Olympia: "Thanks Ken." ============================= Promo Video: Stan Hansen is coming to the AWA!! ============================= Match #3: Jumbo Tsuruta pinned Parker Williams after a 'lariat' ============================= COMMERCIALS: Police Academy 2: The First Assignment in theaters on March 28th! ============================= Match #4: The High Flyers (Greg Gagne/Jim Brunzell) defeated The P.Y.T. Express (Koko Ware/Norvell Austin) when Brunzell pinned Austin after a dropkick ============================= Promo for tomorrow's event here on ESPN AWA Super Sunday ============================= Match #5: MAIN EVENT The Missing Link vs. "Dirty" Dick Slater This was absolutely the wildest brawl to take place on AWA Championship Television yet….they started out brawling in the aisle before either man ever made it into the ring so the referee couldn't stop the match because it hadn't started yet….after a few minutes of brawling around ringside and hitting each other with chairs, finally Slater rolled into the ring…..followed by Link allowing for the referee to finally ring the bell and officially start the match…..after a few more minutes of hard hitting action the Missing Link nailed Slater with a "battering ram" headbutt and covered Slater for the 1-2-3!! Trongard: "Big win for the Missing Link! Tune tomorrow right here on EPSN as we bring you Super Sunday from St. Paul, Minnesota!" © 1985 American Wrestling Association
  19. Once again SPOT ON with everything from the announcers. I like the heel Tribe here and I'm sure we haven't seen the last of this "cowboys/indians" feud....tons of potential here! Did I dig the Last Dragon commercial?? Sho nuff!! I like that you using some of the original tag teams that have been created here in the game, the tournament will be fun to watch play out. I look forward to hearing more from Mr. Backlund about his title reign! Another fun show!
  20. You've always had a quite a knack with coming up with tag teams....I like the pairing of Regal and Donavan....they should be a perfect fit here in the USWA. I hope that's a LOT of cash in the case...or else Miller regret agreeing to fight Kerry for free when he comes back looking for revenge! Speaking of tag teams, The Grapplers didn't get long to bask in their victory over Idol/Graham as Bad Attitude are coming for the belts now, this should a great match up! Adonis got his hand raised at Scores to Settle but he better have eyes in the back of his head because the King will not take this loss lightly...especially when's stuck wearing an eye patch now. I look forward to seeing what the Crippler Rip Oliver brings to the table here....I have a feeling Bulldog Bob Brown may regret starting trouble with him right out of the gate
  21. AWA sends the Dream Machine Troy Graham to Southeastern and picks up Dino Bravo to take his place

  23. AWA sends Tom Prichard to SECW and picks up Chicky Starr from free agency
  24. Nope, not at all.
  25. Damn man....much like with your previous World Class show you capture all the announcers perfectly...I can hear them say every word....and laughed out loud at Vince's signature, "OH MY!" I can't wait for Vince to get in his "and then from there" and "what a maneuver!" I agree that heel Backlund in '85 could have been a game changer and judging by this first promo, heel Backlund here in your WWF is going to be a fun ride!!
