CCW sends the Freebirds (Hayes/Gordy/Roberts) to the AWA for Ronnie Garvin, The Fantastics, and Tracy Smothers
-
I like the occasional substitutions, makes it feel more authentic. Big win for the Highwaymen over the Youngbloods....they keep moving up the ranks Studd/Schultz has to be a hard hitting brawl! Windham looks strong as Central States Champion on this loop! Hanging with the Midnights for nearly half hours helps give the Glamour Boys some credibility. No one plays the chicken shit/arrogant heel like HTM....so much you can do with him here getting heat by cheating the Von Erich out of the Southwestern title! Kevin vs. Bockwinkel for 60 minutes would not disappoint...great stuff!!

Continental Championship Wrestling Presents 'Smoky Mountain Massacre' Civic Center Knoxville, Tennessee Saturday September 14, 1984 Bell Time: 7:30pm Mike Jackson pinned "Gentleman" Ken Timbs with a sunset flip off the top rope Eight Man Tag Team Match Magnificent Muraco/Super Black Ninja/The Grapplers w/Mr. Fuji defeated Steve Olsonoski/Porkchop Cash/Nelson Royal/Bugsy McGraw when Muraco pinned McGraw after a knee off the top rope AWA Continental Television Championship- RETURN MATCH "Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms. Linda pinned Lars Anderson w/Gen. Skandor Akbar with a backslide Special Challenge Match The Sheepherders (Butch Miller/Luke Williams) w/Akbar & Flag Bearer Tony Falk defeated Scott & Steve Armstrong after Miller struck Scott with the flagpole behind the ref's back and got the pin GRUDGE MATCH King Kong Bundy w/Akbar wrestled One Man Gang to a double count out AWA World Tag Team Championship The Movement (Shaska Whatley/Tiger Conway Jr) defeated "Wildcat" Wendell Cooley/Mr. Olympia when the 'Bruthahood' (Brickhouse Brown/Koko Ware/Norvell Austin) came out of the crowd and interfered despite being suspended….after the match the 'Bruthahood' were escorted out of the building by local police and charged with "Criminal Trespassing" AWA World Light Heavyweight Championship Brad Armstrong pinned "The Great" Al Madril following a 'Russian Leg Sweep' SEMI-MAIN EVENT LOSERS LEAVE TOWN- No DQ/NO Count Out (Southeastern Title vs. Continental Tag Titles) The Stud Stable (Hercules Hernandez/Robert Fuller/Jimmy Golden) w/Ron Fuller defeated The Fabulous Freebirds (Michael Hayes/Buddy Roberts/Terry Gordy) when after 21 minutes the match broke down into a six way brawl…Roberts was fighting with Golden on the floor….Hayes and Robert Fuller were fight up the aisle…while Gordy and Hernandez were going toe to toe in the ring when Al Madril ran into the ring with a rag that he clearly stopped and sprayed some sort of substance on and then jumped on Gordy's back and placed the rag over Gordy's face……who eventually went down….allowing Hercules to cover him for the 1-2-3!! As a result Hercules is the new AWA Southeastern Champion….and the Freebirds must leave Continental Wrestling!! MAIN EVENT Continental Heavyweight Championship Title vs. Mask The Bullet pinned "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel with a small package to win the championship….and the Bullet quickly exited through the crowd before the entire Stud Stable could hit the ring and try to remove his mask! -

AWA Continental Championship Wrestling Television Civic Coliseum Studio Knoxville, TN. Taped at 10am/Airing at 3pm on Saturday Sept. 14, 1984 on Superstation WTBS and other Television outlets across Alabama/Mississippi/East Tennessee/North Florida Hosted by Charlie Platt Special Guest Co-Host: Terry Funk Ring Announcer: Rick Stewart Interviews: Joe Pedicino AWA Continental Commissioner: Les Thatcher (The show opens with footage from Huntsville of the Bullet defeating Buddy Landel in a non-title Indian Strap Match and the Stud Stable trying to hit the ring to unmask him but the Armstrongs made the save…..we then roll the opening montage and over to the desk with Charlie Platt and special co-host Terry Funk!) Platt: "Hello wrestling fans and welcome to an abbreviated episode of Continental Championship Wrestling today due to the Atlanta Braves having a special start time today, this will be a short broadcast but action packed as we bring you the 'Smoky Mountain Massacre tonight at the Civic Center here in Knoxville, Tennessee!" Funk: "That's right 'Good Time Charlie', the show might be short because of the Braves game but it's going to be a great show none the less! I'm excited to be here just like last week and it's going to be a wild night tonight….I can't wait for the Smoky Mountain Massacre!!" (Les Thatcher makes his way out) Funk: "Looks like we're getting right to it with boss man coming out, Charlie." Les: "A couple of quick things I need to address here at the top of the show, guys. The first thing is the AWA will not tolerate what happened on this show last week….and I'm referring to the Sheepherders knocking down Joe Pedicino. It was uncalled for and I will not stand for it. So, due to last week's actions, the Sheepherders have been suspended from being in the studio or competing on television for 30 days. Joe hit his head when he fell, he has a concussion, he's not with us today as he recovers back in Atlanta. Moving forward, if a wrestler puts his hands on….or strikes an announcer that wrestler will be suspended for 60 days, not just from television…suspended all together and fined $5,000!" Platt: "Well, I think that's appropriate as there was no call for what happened to Joe and it shouldn't be allowed to ever happen again. Thank you for that Les." (Ron Fuller comes storming out to the desk along with Al Madril, Hercules Hernandez, Robert Fuller, and Jimmy Golden) Ron: "Listen here Les Thatcher…..we're out here to talk to you right now and we don't care that fatty, Joe Pedicino got pushed down by the Sheeplovers. I have had it with the Freebirds! This crap has gone on long enough between the Stud Stable and the Freebirds….so here is what I'm proposing right now…..TONIGHT, at the Smoky Mountain Massacre, a six man loser leaves town, winners take all match with the Stable vs. Freebirds. If they win, they get the CCW Tag Team titles and Hercules, my brother Robert, and Jimmy Golden will leave town! If we win…..Herc gets that Southeastern title and all three of the Freebirds leave town! What do you say to that?" Les: "Well….I'm ok with it….but they would have to sign…" (Before Thatcher can finish, the Freebirds come out….security and Terry Funk jump between the two teams) Hayes: "You think we're scared boy!?!? Show us the papers and we'll sign them right now! We'd like nothin' better than to take your titles and send your butts right out of Continental for good!" Gordy: "That's right Hercules….I beat you last week in Huntsville….and there won't be a damn thing stopping me from doing it again tonight…..consider it done!!" (The Birds head back out) Thatcher: "Ok Ron, you got what you want…..so you guys can go back to the dres…." Ron: "Not just yet, Thatcher. I want another match….I want to put an end to this stupid Bullet charade once and for all. First, I want to hear it from your mouth….since Bob Armstrong lost an AWA sanctioned match that stated he had to leave Continental for a year…..if we unmask the Bullet and show it's Bob Armstrong, will he be gone?" Thatcher: "IF you unmask the Bullet…..and IF he turned out to be Bob Armstrong…..yes, he would be banned for life from CCW due to not following the contract stipulation." Ron: "Great….in that case….we want a match tonight with Buddy Landel vs. Bob Armstrong and when Buddy wins, the Bullet has to unmask himself!" Thatcher: "I can't make a match with Buddy vs. Bob Armstrong….but I can make a match with THE BULLET vs. Buddy Landel…..and I'll even make that stipulation BUT….since the Bullet has beaten Landel in more than one non-title match….tonight's match will be MASK vs. TITLE.." Ron: (ponders this for a moment) "You got it….make the match, Thatcher…..Bob Armstrong will be out of here!" Thatcher: "That remains to be seen but as mentioned, we're on a time crunch today and only have time for three matches…..so let's get the first one under way!" ================================= MATCH #1: AWA World Tag Team Champions The Movement (Shaska Whatley/Tiger Conway Jr) defeated Randy Watson/Roy Munson when Whatley pinned Munson after a powerslam (Post match: Terry Funk approaches The Movement) Funk: "Ladies and Gentlemen, it's my honor to speak with the one and only AWA World Tag Team Champions, the Movement. Guys, tonight you'll be defending these titles against the extremely popular duo of Wendell Cooley and Mr. Olympia…..what do you have in store for them? Whatley: "First off….let me just say that the honor is all ours being interviewed by a man of your stature Mr. Funk, instead of that goofy Charlie Platt or that fat stooge Joe AlPacino….this is truly a pleasant surprise….however before I get to tonight's challengers…..let me just say what an injustice it is that our brothers….Brickhouse Brown, Koko Ware, and Norvell Austin aren't here with us today due to their suspension that was nothing more than a cowardly act by the man…to once again hold them back from succeeding in a business that wasn't meant for 'US' to excel in…yet here stands Tiger and myself succeeding in spite of people like Les Thatcher and Bill Watts! So, Brick…Koko…and Norvell….don't let them hold you down my brothers….we have and shall continue to overcome." Funk: "Wow, that was very inspiring Pez….heck, it makes me wanna go fight 'the man' right now." Conway: "Thanks Terry….but we've got this….much like we've got this tonight against Wendell Cooley and Mr. Olympia." Whatley: "Oh, we've got it alright….despite the fact these two were thrown together this week and now they are getting a World title shot…..a World title shot that we had to scratch, crawl, and fight for…..they just win one match and now they are #1 contenders….while a team that has been winning and earning a rightful title shot….got 'suspended'. How convenient, You see what I mean Mr. Funk?" Funk: "I sure do….and I have to say that's just disgraceful how these jive turkeys try to do a brother." (Conway and Whatley both give each other a look) Conway: "……exactly……anyway, tonight we're going to defend these belts and march right on…and you know why, Terry?" Funk: "Why is that?" Whatley: "Cause we'll be damned if we lose our WORLD titles to some guy named Wendell….and a convict too scared to show his face on tv…..see you down the road Mr. Funk." Funk: "Right on, brothers!" (Raises his fist as Whatley and Conway try to hurry off camera without laughing) ======================= COMMERCIAL BREAK ======================= MATCH #2: AWA Continental Television Championship "Exotic" Adrian Street defeated "Cowboy" Don Bass w/Col. Buck Robley by submission with a 'Boston Crab' ======================== Terry Funk rundowns the card for tonight's show ========================= MATCH #3: MAIN EVENT The Magnificent Muraco w/Mr. Fuji pinned Porkchop Cash with a school boy roll up and handful of tights Platt: "Fans, we apologize but that's all the time we have for this week…..get to the Knoxville Civic Center tonight, if not join us again next week right here on TBS for more Continental Championship Wrestling!!" © 1984 AWA Continental Championship Wrestling -

Rhodes/JYD are a huge draw...hope to seem them go after the World Tag titles at some point. House of Humperdink continues to be one of the most dangerous stables in the game. Can't wait for Gino vs. Savage!
-
I don't think this trade ever got posted CCW sends Scott Casey to ACCW for Porkchop Cash.
-
Kendall Windham with a solid debut in Rocky Mountain alongside Blackjack...good call playing up his age as there's a lot that can be done with that aspect moving forward. Glad to see Johnny Rich making a splash here as he think he was underrated in real life outside of the Southeast. Wow....was blown away by the Orndorff turn....as well as the title swerve with Flair/Bret....exciting times in Stampede!
-
I was hoping this was where the Tully vs. The Axe heat was going and it's been executed to perfection (pun intended) Curt has arrived fired up and ready to pay Tully back on behalf of his father....this will be a fun feud and a great match at Night of Champions! Brutal assault by Ratamyus and company! It will be interesting to see of Cocoa can come back from this! Classic Lawler/Dundee here.....the original "frienemies" in wrestling!
-
Wow...two cage matches and both delivered huge!! Great stuff with Kendall getting attacked and big brother Barry getting revenge....it will be interesting to see if Garvin and Tatum seeks revenge for their fallen partner. This Schultz promo was gold...so many great lines with "seven foot mongoloid" being my favorite of the night! Kevin Von Erich proves the Von Erichs are the masters of the claw in World Class and lets Bockwinkel know that whatever happens with Steamboat...he's still coming for him with this definitive victory over one of him minions. Wow...."Tricky" Nick appears to be cornered with no way out and once again he has an ace up his sleeve! Great finish! Kabuki makes a huge impact here and walks in the door as a top star...well done!!

AWA Continental Championship Wrestling Television WTVY Ch. 4 Studio Dothan, Alabama Taped at 10am/Airing at 3pm on Saturday September 7, 1984 on Superstation WTBS and other Television outlets across Alabama/Mississippi/East Tennessee/North Florida Hosted by Charlie Platt/Ronnie P. Gossett Ring Announcer: Rick Stewart Interviews: Joe Pedicino AWA Continental Commissioner: Les Thatcher (Opening montage plays and we go to the desk with Charlie Platt who is alone this week as Ronnie P. Gossett is not in his usual seat) Platt: "Hello and welcome once again to Continental Championship Wrestling as you can see this week my regular co-host Ronnie P. Gossett is not here, he's actually on assignment for the next two weeks, we'll hear more about that in the coming weeks but I'm very excited…as well as a bit nervous to introduce the man who will be my stand in co-host the next couple of weeks……he's a former NWA World Heavyweight Champion and most recently a former AWA TNT Heavyweight Champion, the one and only Terry Funk!" (Terry Funk comes out all smiles to a mixed reaction from the studio audience) Funk: "Well hello there, 'Good Time Charlie', I can't tell you how excited I am to be here as the co-host of my all time favorite wrestling show, Continental Championship Wrestling…..every Saturday at the 'Double Cross Ranch' we're all glued to the tv set watching this show on the Superstation WTBS!" Platt: "I promise you Mr. Funk, we're excited to have you here with us." Funk: "Aw, come on Charlie….don't call me 'Mr.' just call me Terry! Why we're gonna have the darndest time you ever seen here in Dothan, Alabama…..so many great wrestlers here today and I understand we have several new faces here besides myself not to mention a TV title match with Lars Anderson defending against Adrian Street, and Freebird Buddy Roberts taking on Al Madril!" Platt: "That's right Terry, and we're about to go to the ring and see one of those new stars right now as Mr. Fuji leads the Magnificent Muraco to the ring for action." ================================== MATCH #1: Magnificent Muraco w/Mr. Fuji pinned Roy Munson after an inverted piledriver (Post Match: Joe Pedicino joins Mr. Fuji and Muraco at ringside) Pedicino: "Wow Mr. Fuji, it was announced last week that you've parted ways with Devastation Incorporated and Skandor Akbar and you've wasted no time bringing in one of the biggest stars in professional wrestling, the Magnificent Don Muraco…..who has been a champion all over the world!" Fuji: "Ah yes….Muraco-san one of the best wrestler ever step in ring….and very soon he will hold title belt, I promise you." Muraco: "Listen up Joe Pedicino, when Mr. Fuji talks you better listen because he speaks the truth and the truth is…..just like I dropped that guy on his head and beat him….tonight I will do the same to Steve O…..and then the next one and the next one until I get a shot at one of these so called champions like Terry Gordy or Buddy Landel…..so put everyone on notice that 'the Magnificent One' has arrived and I'm on the hunt for gold!" ===================================== COMMERCIAL BREAK ===================================== MATCH #2: Porkchop Cash pinned Randy Watson with a small package (Post Match: Terry Funk stops Cash at the desk) Funk: "Poke Chop, how the heck are ya man…..it's your old pal Terry Funk!" Cash: (looking confused) "Um…hey Terry…how are you?" Funk: "I'm great, man….I'm co-hosting Continental Championship Wrestling…living my dream. But tell me man….what brings you here to Continental? I've seen you involved in all sorts of crazy stuff down in Florida and on the Atlantic Coast….where's that goofy Valiant? Did you not bring him with you?" Cash: (laughing) "Nah Terry, I didn't bring Jimmy with me, man. I'm actually looking to get away from some of that craziness down there and focus on myself and looking to make some money and…" (Before Cash can finish his sentence, Brickhouse Brown, Koko Ware, and Norvell Austin make their way out to the desk) Funk: "Whoah guys….we certainly don't want any trouble out here…..we're just having a pleasant conversation…" Brick: "Don't worry Terry, we're just here to have some conversation too….I just want to ask Bobby Cash why he feels the need to be a slave to 'the man' in pro wrestling? Why you feel the need to make a fool of yourself doing stupid stuff like calling yourself 'Reverend Cash' or even worse….'Porkchop' Cash…why don't you just bring your shine box out here.." (Cash interjects) Cash: "No hold on one damn minute, son. First of all….you don't know me and you don't know nothin' about me. Second of all….are you trying to tell me names like 'Brickhouse', 'Koko', or 'Norvell' are any more dignified than ANY name I've ever wrestled as?? I don't know what your agenda is with this 'Bruthahood' garbage but leave me out of it!" Koko: "Boy, you got any idea who you're talking to right now?? If not….go ask the Nightmares and Johnny Rich if you can find them! We're out here trying to help you out….we came out here to give you an opportunity and this is how you respond??" Funk: "Well guys, it did come off a bit disrespectful, if you don't mind me saying." Brick: "Terry Funk….mind ya business….we're not above putting an old white cowboy out to pasture if you know what I'm sayin', step aside!" (Funk throws his hands up and backs away) (Les Thatcher comes out) Les: "I was going to deal with you guys later in the show but since you decided to come out here unscheduled, I'm going to go ahead and let you know that due to your actions recently, giving a brainbuster on the floor not only to Nightmare Ken Wayne, but also Johnny Rich….I'm suspending all three of you for two weeks and fining you $5,000! Unless you want to incur a bigger fine, I suggest you leave the studio and not show your faces at a Continental Wrestling event for the next two weeks." Koko: "Well isn't this typical….you and the powers that be in the AWA are mad that our brothers in the Movement are the new AWA World Tag Team Champions and since there's nothing you can do to them….you try to oppress us….that's just fine because we shall overcome….this isn't over…the Movement here in Continental has just begun." Brickhouse: "As for you 'Pokechop'…..this isn't over….Thatcher here might have saved you today but you better think it over…..we WILL be back and when we see you again…..BOBBY Cash better be ready to join the Bruthahood…..or suffer the consequences!" ============================= Terry Funk enthusiastically runs down the card for tonight in Huntsville TONIGHT!!! Continental Championship Wrestling At the Von Braun Civic Center in Huntsville, Alabama with a bell time Of 8pm!! Porkchop Cash vs. "No Class" Bobby Bass w/Col. King Kong Bundy/Lars Anderson w/Skandor Akbar SEMI-MAIN EVENT Indian Strap Match "Nature Boy" Buddy Landel Vs. The Bullet MAIN EVENT Lights Out Southern Street Fight Terry "Bam Bam" Gordy Vs. Hercules Hernandez (Card Subject to Change) ============================== MATCH #3: The Sheepherders (Butch Miller/Luke Williams) w/Akbar defeated Lonnie Jameson/Parker Williams when Miller pinned Jameson after the "battering ram" double team move (it should be noted that Tony Falk was at ringside waving the flag of New Zealand) After the match, Joe Pedicino tried to approach the Sheepherders but they pushed him down to the ground and was about to attack him until Terry Funk seemingly talked some sense to Akbar who led them away. Funk to Platt: "Well there was no call for something like that to happen to an announcer….I for one am appalled at the actions of the Sheepherders!" (Platt seemed at a loss for words that this was coming from Terry Funk of all people but quickly agreed with him) =============================== COMMERCIAL BREAK =============================== MATCH #4: The Bullet defeated Big Tom Dugan with a sleeperhold (After the match the Bullet approaches the desk and is met by Charlie Platt as Joe Pedicino is being attended to by the medic in the back) Platt: "Bullet, it's been announced that tonight in Huntsville, you will have another non-title match with Buddy Landel, this time an Indian Strap match." Bullet: "That's right Charlie, since ol' limber tail Landel doesn't want to stay in the ring when he faces me, Les Thatcher decided that he would have to if we're strapped together so that's what happening tonight in Huntsville." (Terry Funk approaches with a piece of paper in his hand) Funk: "Bob, I hate to interrupt but I have something you need to hear…" Bullet: "That's fine Terry, but that's the BULLET….my name isn't Bob." Funk: "Ok…sure…well anyway….this is a letter from the Continental Champion addressed to Charlie Platt as well as Bob Armstrong, but if you're not Bob Armstrong perhaps you can relay the message to him." Bullet: "Oh, I sure can…we're great friends." Funk: "I'm sure you guys are…. But for the benefit of the fans here in the studio and all the ones watching at home, I'm going to read this verbatim from Buddy Landel……Here goes.. 'Dear Charlie Platt and Bob 'the liar with a stupid sock on his ugly head' Armstrong. (Funk shrugs) I hope this letter finds you both ill. This makes the 2nd week in a row you've deprived the fans of Continental Wrestling the opportunity to see their beloved champion on television due to your stupid, pathetic charade of having Bob Armstrong parade around in a stupid mask while wearing the same gear and using the same name he always has….the Bullet. This is an insult to the fans, the wonderful and kind people of WTBS, as well as my personal inspiration and hero the great Ted Turner….not to mention myself, 'Mr. AWA', the Nature Boy and the greatest champion of our generation or any other Buddy Landel. (Funk again shrugs) I'll wrestle you in your Indian Strap Match (which is stupid since neither of us is an Indian but whatever) I hope when I beat you in this match and remove that stupid mask off your ugly face that Les Thatcher will do the right thing and suspend you or better yet fire you (or even better yet send you to jail or have you executed either or) Meanwhile, I hope your happy with what I'm sure are miniscule and mediocre ratings due to the fact that I'm not on the show. Sincerely, The Champ P.S. Charlie Platt you are an abomination as a host and I hope you get replaced with a chimpanzee (at least he would be more handsome and insightful) P.P.S. All of the Armstrongs are trash, I'd rather watch an endless loop of Mike Von Erich matches than ever see any of them in the ring again." Platt: "Wow….I don't know what to say." Funk: "I bet the chimpanzee would…..haha, I'm just ribbing you 'Good Time Charlie', you are a great announcer, you make Gordon Solie look like Bill Watts on the microphone." Platt: "Thanks….I think." ============================== MATCH #5: AWA Continental Television Championship "Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms. Linda pinned Lars Anderson with an 'Oklahoma Roll' to win the championship!! King Kong Bundy tried to hit the ring before the three count hit but was too late…as he went to attack Street, the One Man Gang hit the ring and made the save…which infuriated Akbar! =============================== COMMERCIAL BREAK =============================== Platt: "Well Terry, how have you enjoyed your first week as co-host of Continental Championship Wrestling?" Funk: "Good Time Charlie', it's been my pleasure….what a show it's been and we still have the main event next but thanks for having me and I can't wait til next Saturday as we'll not only be on television right here once again but we'll be headed to Knoxville for a show called the 'Smoky Mountain Massacre' where the AWA World Tag Team Champions the Movement will be here defending their titles against the winners of a big four corners tag team match we have coming up this week!" Platt: "That's right Terry, all that and more next week but right now let's go to our main event!" =============================== MATCH #6: MAIN EVENT "The Great" Al Madril w/Hercules Hernandez pinned Buddy 'Jack' Roberts w/Michael Hayes after Hernandez tripped Roberts……after the pinfall, Gordy hit the ring in blue jeans and his Badstreet USA t-shirt and went toe to toe with Hercules as the show was going off the air!! © 1984 AWA Continental Championship Wrestling -
Wow....Nikita is the last one I expected to lose and leave town here! I would have been in absolute shock there in the arena watching this...well done! I'm curious to see where Nikita turns up next. I think Tito is a great fit here and has a lot of potential in Stampede! I hope he does end up lost in the shuffle with so many big stars here already. Wow Slaughter beats Doc....which really put hims over the top as the mega heel of Stampede! Can't wait to see what's next for him!
-
Man...this Dundee/Lawler drama really takes me back to my childhood....you're capturing their dynamic well as Dundee/Lawler could believably go from friends to foes and back again in the course of a single promo and never have you doubt a minute of it! I look forward to seeing where this goes! I like the Roughnecks tag team, I look forward to an eventual clash with the Fabs at some point! They are the kind of gritty brawling team the Fabs excel against...though I'm also excited to see the Fabs challenge the Movement coming up as well! Like I always say, you roll out of one big card and in the course of one television you've already got me looking forward to the next one! Night of Champions will be a great one!

Ladds Army owns Rocky Mtn between the matches and attacks throughout the show as well as Ladd taking the title and sending Wahoo packing...who can stop them?? I'm a huge Embry fan but he and Sonny King are quite the odd couple....certainly not Mike Von Erich.....it will be interesting to see who surfaces here in Rocky Mtn Pro!
-
The Family looks unstoppable as they have seemingly eliminated Don Muraco from Georgia! The Andersons regain the tag titles thanks to Harley....if they become part of the "Family" they may become literally unstoppable.
-
You have so many great tag team combinations, the "Tag Wars" house shows are a great way feature that! Garvin/Parsons makes for a fun tag team...but with both men being the leaders of their factions, it's not surprising they couldn't get along. I just seem envision these Midnight Express vs. The Islanders matches being great matches...I could see them playing well off each other Dr D and that damn chair are going to be a force to reckon with no matter who his opponents are! I agree.....I like these big show recaps and I always manage to pick up a new detail or two that I missed in the first read. Loved the promos from Bockwinkel and Steamboat!
-
Things are getting crazy in Stampede! I have to say I was skeptical of the Slaughter heel turn in '84 as well but it's coming off well and working. Heenan almost comes off sympathetic here...almost. It will be interesting to see how things turn out with Hennig...though I have a theory of where he might turn up..... If the term "DTA" was a thing in 1984, that Loser Leaves Town cage match would be the definition of it! Can't wait to see how it plays out! "Davey screwed Davey" Stu pulls off the Stampede Screwjob...but is it legit? We'll see. Flair vs. Dibiase turns out to be the clinic we all hoped for!

I have to second what Spaldoni said, your Star Wars card always deliver and this one was no exception! Garvin and friends are on fire here in World Class...big victory for them to open the show! Schultz puts a beatdown on poor Stasiak, I picture him delivering the classic Murtagh line from Lethal Weapon as he leaves the ring..."I'm getting too old for this shit" I honestly remember thinking when I was a kid that I would love to see the Baron test his claw against the Von Erichs so I popped hard when you debuted him alongside Studd and Bockwinkel....it would seem he walked away to fight another day....perhaps a cage will be in order. Nice win for the Highwaymen...although had they let a team called the "Glamour Boys" beat them in a streetfight they might have to off themselves Samurai style...lol Schultz is a tough guy no doubt but he may have shit and fell back in it pissing off Brody! This should be interesting to see what happens next! Wow, if I was a betting man I would have lost...nice win for the Youngbloods/Adias getting some revenge on the Movement for what Parsons did to Adias a few weeks back! Kerry finally seems to have pulled the thorn out of his side named the Grappler, luckily Grappler 2 was lurking around this time! Steamboat vs. Bockwinkel is truly one of those dream matches that has come together in our little world here that makes the game fun.....can't wait for the rematch!

Great card that really delivered from beginning to end! Nice win for Shaw but Jumbo putting down the Animal will be the scene everyone remembers, Gene Anderson is turning Jumbo into a monster and I love it! Great win for DJ over Killer Brooks, this should put some eyes on him for title contention. Fergie is underrated heel...I got to see him wrestle in Columbus, Mississippi a few times back around 1994 and he was so entertaining. Blanchard/Dibiase had a great match and Tully reacts to that situation exactly the way you think he would and it will be interesting to see how the Axe responds. Tito and the Fabs are a fun six man combo....glad to see them get the win. Looking forward to more matches between the Jayhawks and Murdoch/Adonis....quite evenly matched. All is right in Memphis tonight as the King has the title! It will be fun to see how long the uneasy alliance between frienimies Lawler/Dundee can last and just what Funk will have up his sleeve when he seeks revenge.

AWA Continental Championship Wrestling
GeneJackson95 replied to GeneJackson95's topic in Programming
AWA Continental Championship Wrestling Television Civic Coliseum Studio Knoxville, TN. Taped at 10am/Airing at 3pm on Saturday Aug 31, 1984 on Superstation WTBS and other Television outlets across Alabama/Mississippi/East Tennessee/North Florida Hosted by Charlie Platt/Ronnie P. Gossett Ring Announcer: Rick Stewart Interviews: Joe Pedicino AWA Continental Commissioner: Les Thatcher SHOW RECAP: Angles/Promos- At the top of the show Ron Fuller stormed out demanding an explanation for the Bullet being allowed to compete at 'Battle of New Orleans' when clearly that was Bob Armstrong who is banned from Continental. Thatcher came out and said until someone can remove the mask of the Bullet and prove that he's Bob Armstrong he will be allowed to compete. Fuller said that if that's the case then Buddy Landel wants It known he is "on strike" from television until this is rectified and Bob Armstrong is banned for life because he didn't go through the trouble of running Bob Armstrong out of town for this travesty to be allowed to happen……in the middle of Fuller's rant…..The Fabulous Freebirds come out….Gordy is livid saying he would be the AWA World Champion right now if it wasn't for the Stud Stable attacking him last week and specifically Hercules Hernandez re-injuring his neck with the full nelson……they issue a challenge for tonight here in the Civic Center with all three Freebirds taking on Madril/Hernandez/Landel which Fuller accepts… Wendell Cooley came out very heated calling out Scott Casey who walked out on him in their tag match last Saturday……Casey comes out somewhat aloof……Cooley says that he took the high road and didn't come out and confront him when he no showed their first title match to go wrestle for Atlantic Coast Wrestling…..he didn't say anything when he got tossed out of the battle royal the following week costing them a title match…..but last week took the cake when Casey simply walked out and abandoned him in their match with Fuller and Golden….Casey just laughs at all this and says that maybe Continental isn't big enough for the both of them….and how about tonight they face off in a 'loser leaves town' match…..Cooley says, "you're on!" Skandor Akbar comes out along with Lars Anderson……Mr. Fuji comes out followed by the Super Black Ninja. Akbar says that he and Mr. Fuji have realized that it's time to dissolve their partnership…..they have no ill will and they are both businessmen. Mr. Fuji has sold the contracts of Kendo Nagasaki and the Great Kabuki and they have split the money and they will now go their separate ways with no hard feelings…..and with that Fuji and Ninja bow to Akbar and Anderson who return the favor as Fuji and Ninja exit the studio. Akbar says he is negotiating bringing in some new members of Devastation Inc. and that their first order of business is to eliminate the One Man Gang and run him out of Continental Championship Wrestling. Tonight, Lars Anderson has the opportunity to do so and once that is done….it will be time to set their sights elsewhere! Charlie Platt points out that they "had their chance" this past week on some of the arena shows and Lars didn't stick around to fight but tonight he'll have no choice it will be a "lumberjack match" against the One Man Gang! The Bullet and Brad Armstrong came out after their tag match to address the accusations of the Stud Stable, Bullet says he has a lot of respect for Bob Armstrong but clearly fans have seen him in action for Great Lakes Championship Wrestling and while he's flattered by the comparison he's not simply not Bob Armstrong….but what he will be after tonight is one half of the Continental Tag Team Champions with his partner 'Bad' Brad Armstrong "the belt collector". Brad chimes in reminding everyone that he's not only the AWA World Light Heavyweight Champion but also one half of the AWA Georgia Tag Team Champions and soon to be one half of the Continental Tag Team Champions with the Bullet, and he closes by saying that if the Bullet is the reason that Buddy Landel isn't on television running his mouth, then he should be the most popular man in the Southeast! The Bruthahood (Brickhouse Brown/Koko Ware/Norvell Austin) come out and brag about taking away the name of the former "Rat Patrol" last week in New Orleans and then injuring the Nightmares this past week…..this brings out Johnny Rich, Scott and Steve Armstrong. Johnny Rich said while they may have not seen eye to eye with the Nightmares, what they did to Ken Wayne crossed the line and was uncalled for….Steve Armstrong chimed in and said that "that wasn't wrestling, that was an assault with the intent to end a man's career" Brickhouse said if that didn't like it, how about they do something about it in the ring…tonight! The Armstrongs and Rich accepted. Afterwards, Ware says that they are proud to be associated with the 'Movement' and that they couldn't be more proud of the new World Tag Team Champions, Shaska Whatley and Tiger Conway! MATCHES- The Bullet/Brad Armstrong defeated 'Big' Tom Dugan/Mike Hunt when the Bullet put down Dugan with a sleeper hold AWA Continental Television Championship Lars Anderson w/Gen. Skandor Akbar defeated Pat Rose by submission with a 'Boston Crab' "Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms. Linda pinned "Gentleman" Ken Timbs with a rolling cradle The Bruthahood (Koko Ware/Norvell Austin) w/Brickhouse Brown defeated Randy Watson/Mike Jackson when Ware pinned Watson after a dropkick off the 2nd rope Steve Olsonoski pinned Roy Lee Welch with a flying crossbody off the top rope MAIN EVENT "Wildcat" Wendell Cooley defeated Grappler 2 by DQ when Scott Casey ran in and attacked Cooley…until Mr. Olympia came in and made the save!
