Oh plenty of people dislike Bubba as a wrestler. Dude was a liberty taking sack of shit with younger talent and was still trying it in the recent WWE run until Big E fucked his world up one match. Bully Ray was (initially) a pretty great character, but he certainly didn't have any great matches with the gimmick. Ooh, was this on TV? Bubba magically stopped stiffing New Day after that

Smark meltdowns are more fun as a spectator sometimes. In this case, I think both would line up pretty well since there is nothing Taker gains from beating anyone on the roster at this point or at the time he lost the streak, so putting it on someone fans would get mad about and make a super top heel would have been nice.

Agreed, but it's funny because even in real life fights, size doesn't mean an automatic win, and that's in pretty much every code minus boxing whether it be Sumo, K-1 or MMA. If the guys are even enough though, the heavier will guy will likely pull ahead. I think having too many big guys in a promotion is just as big of an issue as having too many small guys. It's really best just to have a bunch of normal people and have one or two really big and small guys so those guys can stay over and you don't end up with physical mismatches. This is one of the things female wrestlers have going for them. For the most part, the girls only have a few inches between each other and the weights aren't that big of a difference like it constantly is and is pushed as with the men. I highly doubt Vince ever says "Banks is just too small" or "I gotta push ___ because she's big", but this is common with the men. I do have to wonder if Charlotte would get the push she's had if she was Sasha's size.

I 100% do not believe that someone will be driven to an eating disorder by a discussion about the appearances of Chris Hero, Kevin Owens, or Bull James on the Pro Wrestling Only message board.
-
Ok, they look overweight, even if may be perfectly healthy. What does pointing it out and mocking it achieve? Le'ts not pretend people don't mock them for it. Well, you can't seem to understand the difference between pointing it out and mocking, which is how all these arguments with you go. My mother was anorexic in high school and after the birth of my sister. I am familiar with the subject. Many people have eating disorders. You aren't in some unique situation to know multiple people with one or be married to someone who has had one. By your logic of talking about wrestler's weight can cause eating disorders, I guess we should pretend the Warlord never existed, because he might give men body dysmorphia. Something you fail to understand here is that pro wrestlers and other professional athletes aren't normal people. They don't get comparisons to normal people. Pointing out, mocking, or praising the body of a pro athlete is not the same as doing it to a random person on the street. No one looks at the Warlord or Scott Steiner or Shaq or Bo Jackson or Mike Tyson and think they're the normal average attainable body types. Find me someone that developed an eating disorder because someone said Shaq got fat. 99% of people are never going to have the body Finn Balor has even if they put in the same amount of effort and care he puts into his body. Should we not talk about how many abs he has because someone watching at home will never know what it's like to have an 8 pack and 5% body fat? How do you feel about Rick Rude being inducted into the HOF when his shtick was being super in shape and calling the fans fat?
-
Jesus Christ you're impossibly and unbearably dense on this topic, no doubt intentionally, because you know what the fuck people mean when they say Kevin Owens or Chris Hero look overweight. They have giant jiggly guts, which only occurs when you have excess body fat. They LOOK overweight. Maybe they by some medical definition aren't, but they look like they are, and that's why people say it. While you're accusing me if building straw men, you're bringing up BMI (never brought up), the argument that people are arguing someone would be a better wrestler if they lost weight (never brought up, if anything most people agree Hero is a better wrestler with the weight), how people shouldn't celebrate Big Show for getting in better shape because he might have an eating disorder (never brought up), hypothetical hurt feelings of hypothetical people who hypothetically might read someone say something about a wrestler's looks that could be hypothetically construed as negative which would then hypothetically cause them to have an eating disorder. When it comes to this subject, you're a ridiculous person, Grim. Absolutely silly. You have multiple people in here talking about their weight issues and how they in fact people hadn't walked on egg shells about their weight and how talking about the weight of a wrestler doesn't offend them, yet you completely ignore and invalidate those people, who aren't hypothetical future "said something mean about a wrestler's gut" induced eating disorder patients. You know, the actual people you keep talking about, they're in this thread talking to you and you're ignoring them so you can continue to "call out" people. It's nonsense. You're so far down the rabbit hole that not only do you not want people to acknowledge the bodies of overweight appearing wrestlers, but you also don't want people to acknowledge or praise the bodies of people who got in better shape because they might have been fat shamed or have an eating disorder.

It was pretty good. Roman is at his best when he's against a guy who can throw him around, as he's actually a great bumper and seller, so Strowman chucking him around was dope. Braun continues to have the most amazing improvement since the draft, benefiting more from the split more than anyone on either side. I read a lot at various places of complaining about how Roman made Braun look weak and ruined him (because fuck Roman etc etc), but those people are idiots. Braun kicked out of a spear, injured his knee, then missed a crazy superfly splash to get hit with another spear. He really couldn't have been protected more without having Roman use weapons or something. Braun continues to be the best part of Raw for 8 months running.

We're not talking about some super athlete who is super dense with muscle and obese by BMI standards. In fact, I don't think BMI has ever been brought up when talking about a wrestler's physical appearance. When you go on your rants about WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY OVERWEIGHT and start bringing up BMI and acting like you don't know why people look at Kevin Owens and think he's overweight, you're just being deliberately obtuse for the sake of an argument so you can make a topic off grounds by annoying the shit out of everyone and shouting them down. Over something so stupid by just ACKNOWLEDGING THE APPEARANCE of a human. Not even judging or shaming. Just mentioning how someone looks causes you to flip your shit and try to wear everyone down. In a form of entertainment where appearances might be the most important aspect of one's career. We might as well not be allowed to talk about a wrestler's selling ability at that point.

Oh, the second rope phoenix splash? It's not like Neville's snap German is usually a head drop, they just went fucking flying with it. I don't think it's quite the same as a top rope dragon suplex, although it was gross.
-
Exactly. Which is why it is so stupid that Grimmas gets so bent out of shape on people talking about Hero's weight, since his weight has been a huge part of his character and career in the past 2-3 years, and it has HELPED him quite a bit. I'm sure he's making more money in NXT now than he was 3-4 years ago, and his weight is a significant reason for that. His weight gain was the biggest shot in the arm to his career that he had had in about a decade.

Genuinely offensive Smackdown. I actually almost went to the show. I'd be absolutely furious if I had. Three matches in a two hour show, one of them being a super short comedy mixed tag, and one being what has to be considering wildly disappointing considering Orton's base level match and AJ being the best guy in the world for 3 years now, and the other cut short for an angle. They seriously went from a Dean Ambrose/Baron Corbin promo to a women's month piece to a Mojo promo to Dean walking around the back to a commercial BACK to Dean walking around the back and getting attacked to a 4 way promo with Alexa/Nattie/Becky/Mickie/Bryan to a commercial to a match that ends with partners turning on each other. This was after the first hour having 3 minutes of in ring action. And THEN they start 205 live with a 15 minute promo segment. Jesus fuck.

Someone can be overweight and still be highly athletic. One doesn't negate the other from being possible. 70% of the NFL are 300+ dudes who are freakishly athletic but also intentionally being as overweight as they can get while still keeping their athleticism. Someone saying Chris Hero is fat isn't diminishing his athletic abilities. In fact, it makes his athleticism more impressive. Just because someone is overweight doesn't mean they aren't athletic, and just because someone is athletic doesn't mean they aren't overweight. These are unrelated issues.

Jeff was able to get into Japan in 2011. I don't think he's had any new drug charges since then, has he?
-
I did, actually : "but I'm surprised Gallagher doesn't get shit on for taking an unprotected, uncontrolled headdropping bump followed by a finisher (kind of) only to kick out and then keeping on going." Of the four Horsewomen, to me Bailey has been exposed a bit since she joined the main roster. She doesn't look that great anymore, whereas Charlotte has improved quite a bit and Sasha & Becky usually look just as strong. What kind of finisher did Gallagher kick out of? He did take some disgusting bumps for sure.

Jesus, 25 minutes into SD and there has been all of one wrestling move. 15 minute promo from Bryan and Shane announcing a match that was already announced, coming back from commercial to see Bryan and Shane walking in the back, then an Ellsworth promo, then a superkick from Carmella into an immediate commercial. Fuck. Then the action starts and it's a 3 minute comedy match and then another promo. The another promo. Then a fluff piece. Then a commercial. AJ/Orton better take up the whole second hour. This is supposed to be the wrestling show, for fuck's sake.
-
That's usually what people mean when they say overweight. Do you think you could put yourself in the headspace of another human who might think these men are over a normal or desirable weight?
-
It's not a bad thing in MMA, though. Fans want brutal shit talking bravado, not "he's a great competitor but I believe my skills are better than his" type promos.

On the topic of Hardys now having a door to NJ, obviously Gedo loves booking Americans that don't fit in his company, but boy what a bizarre thing that would be. Also I have to wonder how much longer NJ is going to keep working with ROH now that they're setting up their own shows in the US without ROH involvement.

If you can overlook or find a way to make this seem not terrible, you're certainly a better fan than I am.

Usos vs AA at Takeover actually sounds preferable now that the idea has been put out there. I don't even know what the fuck Takeover is building to besides Ember/Asuka and I guess Roode/Nak 2? Maybe AOP vs DIY vs Revival?

Even just saying someone is fat isn't inherently shaming any more than saying someone is a woman is sexist, or saying someone is black is racist. You keep "calling people out". I don't know what you think you're accomplishing besides constantly derailing conversations and making people not want to engage with you. Remember that this round started with someone who assumed ROH crowds didn't like Bull Dempsey because he's overweight and wrestling fans hate fat people all because he hadn't actually watched or known anything about Bull besides seeing that he was a husky guy. So he projected that wrestling fans hate fat people > ROH fans are wrestling fans > ROH fans hate Bull because he's fat. The only person body shaming was the guy who assumed people must not like this guy because he isn't built like Finn Balor. No one was shitting on anyone's looks or bodies except random projection on a subject the original poster was ignorant on to begin with that had nothing to do with bodies. Then you going crazy and "calling people out" made this thread spend 2 pages talking about bodies and who is in or isn't in shape. So, congrats on calling people out.

OF COURSE looks are important in UFC. You think Page Van Zant and Sage Northcutt got the promotion they got because of their skills? Do you really think UFC cards are based on talent and win/loss records as opposed to marketability? There's a reason why Ronda Rousey got the super media push she got as opposed to a fighter like Cyborg or Amanda Nunes. There's a reason why Mighty Mouse might be the P4P best fighter in UFC for years, yet people aren't interested at all in buying his fights. Go to any MMA board and look at how guys that get off steroids or TRT are savaged for how they look afterwards. It's very important to MMA companies and MMA fans as well. Just because someone's body doesn't matter to YOU doesn't mean it doesn't matter to OTHER PEOPLE, and constantly nagging them to think like you isn't going to change dick.
-
You seem to think even acknowledging the appearance of another person is automatically body shaming, though. Saying someone is skinny or overweight is not inherently shaming. So what you're really asking is to not discuss the physical appearance of any wrestler in this thread.

He's also an outright comedy guy whose tiny frame is like...the main point of the comedy. Grimmas, you can have your one man battle, but confronting people every time they say something that you think might be offensive to someone somewhere is just going to make people push harder against you and that.
