  1. This match feels like a legitimate contender for the greatest match of all-time. It's the most brutal match of all-time, and it doesn't need barbed wire, light tubes, tables, ladders, a steel cage, fire, thumbtacks, or any other "foreign" or "international" object. It just needs two dudes being badasses. They punch each other in the face, and they dive full bore at one another. The beauty in this brutal match is the selling, especially from Chicana. He gives himself completely to his role, and it's a sell job better than anything you'll see this year. He gets jumped pre-bell, and he sells the beat down the whole match. He is bleeding all over the place and has this dazed look on his face as he fights fights through loss of blood and what I guess would be considered "concussion like symptoms" nowadays. But both guys do a tremendous job selling the exhaustion, blood loss, and magnitude of this match. It feels on par with some of the greatest acting performances in some of my favorite films, which is something that I rarely ever see in pro wrestling. This match was a revelation to me, and I'll hold it in the same regard as I do my other favorite pieces of art.
  2. My name is Justin, and somehow I've managed to end up on this site several times through a rabbit hole of links or references. I don't really know how it happened initially, but it kept popping up while I was looking for recommendations for matches from before the 80's. The yearbook threads came in handy for what I am hoping to make a solo project out of in that regard. I don't really watch as much wrestling as I did about 6-7 years ago, but the urge has been building back up in me. I don't know that wrestling will ever be my main focus for entertainment again, but I wouldn't mind watching a handful of matches or a show month. My taste doesn't really comply with what is on tv or what is typically the main focus of the IWC. This place seems to be more my speed as far as taste goes. Everybody here is much more knowledgeable about pro wrestling, so I admit, I am a bit intimidated. I don't want to make myself sound foolish by saying something ignorant, so if I seem tentative, that's why. Around 2010 I started expanding my horizons from the WWE dvds I collected as a youth, and I started to find that I didn't really enjoy the flippy junior style anymore. I preferred stiff punches, grappling, and older stuff. For whatever reason, I ended up falling out of love with wrestling and getting more into movies and other things. Like I said, the urge has recently hit me, so I've tried to watch some of the newer stuff and I have a hard time with it. What I am hoping to explore further this time around: - Lucha - IWA-MS - BattlARTS - Necro Butcher - Fujiwara - 80's and before - World of Sport - RINGS
  3. What I love about this match is how it feels like a sportsmanlike competition. One of the things that has turned me off of pro wrestling is how it doesn't usually feel like a competition anymore. The grappling doesn't mean anything, and the strikes are loose and probably mean even less. It's all about highspots, 2.9 count kickouts, and FIGHTING SPIRIT no selling. This match is the antithesis of that style of wrestling. The strikes aren't very frequent, but they all hit hard. Zrno throws some pretty European uppercuts and some dropkicks; Hara throws this dropkick where his feet aren't together and one foot looks like it connects with Zrno's forehead. Then they'd go back to grappling. I like the story of those guys thinking it's safer to roll on the mat, because it's less dangerous than getting popped in the mouth, because that shit hurts. I love the way these guys work pretty simple holds without making them obvious restholds. That drives me nuts, so when it's done right I'll always appreciate it. The finish is pretty cool too with Hara catching Zrno in the air and planting him with a nice Samoan drop type move.
