Pillman survives the Virus. British Steel hold of the Wild Things.... for now. Bret retains against the turncoat Neidhart. Finally, Honolulu night 2. Ladd starts by announcing three matches for JYD. Dibiase next week & March 6th in New Orleans and Shiek Kassie tonight. Super D continues his hunt of for the TV title. I'm running out of ways to say how great the Roberts/Ellering promos are. An emotional come home promo from Reed. Loved the Shiek's explanation to why he needed to use the rag on JYD. Also a sensible reason for Konga helped out Woman despite not working for her anymore. Speaking of whom, he and Nord continue their path of destruction. Woman & Luger talk plenty tough but Imagine seeing Williams take down Vader shut them up pretty quickly. We get a great ending as Kassie gets the ass-whipping he's had coming for a long time now.

Stevens may have just Crippled Bellomo. Another wild brawl between Dynamite and Mr Magnificent. Mean Streak pull the Technicians out of their comfort zone. The Professor gives Kokina a helping hand. Gagne's Gang pull one out without their leader. Colon once again proves he is the AWA's kind of the (Caribbean) Deathmatch. Well, Adams did better than Dream Machine at least. Perez comes close but Bad News once again proves he's a survivor.

Having watched some Smokey Mountain wrestling, I know Mantell can be great behind the booth and if he and Russell can summon the chemistry he had with Bob Caudle irl then they should make a fun part of the show. Some good talent here but the ultimate question is, can Memphis survive without the King? We'll find out.

Steamboat hypes the hell out of his rematch with Bigelow but that might just push the big man over the edge. The Rockers v The Islanders will make a great contrast of styles. Great job hyping the Clash via the promos throughout the night. It's impressive how big your making the show with a number of your bigger stars absent.

Taped at the Memorial Auditorium before Main Event. Originally airing on 2/5/88 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Bob Caudle & David Crockett "Black Magic" Norman Smiley w/Ms Linda defeats George South with the "Norman Conquest" The Commandos (Boone & Frazier) defeat "Tough" Tony Falk & Bart Sawyer when Boone pinned Falk with a big splash. "The Monster" Rip Morgan w/Jr Foley defeats "Stray Cat" Brodie Chase with a Chokeslam. Main event. Winner challenges for the NWA World Television Title on next week's Main Event. "British Magician" Steve Wright defeats "Rotten" Ron Starr by countering a Brainbuster into a inside cradle. In other news.... We get the promised announcement from Jim Crockett Jr. He hypes that 1988 marks 40 years since the founding of the National Wrestling Alliance. To mark this momentus occasion, he announces the retirement of the NWA World Television Title and that it shall be replaced with the NWA Heritage Title. He says whomever walks out of next week with the TV title will face the winner of a battle royal to be held on next week's Worldwide at SuperBrawl with the winner becoming the first ever NWA Heritage Champion. We get a pre-taped promo from Jimmy Garvin. He says he isn't surprised that Ron tried to jump him like some common criminal last night because Ron has always been embarrassing the family with his thuggish behavior. He says Ron is delusional if he thinks Jimmy will reward such a shameful display but because he is "a fair, gracious, magnanimous and incredibly sexy man" he'll give Ron a chance to EARN a match. All he has to do is find a partner and defeat "my boys, Radiance" at SuperBrawl. "Not that it matters" Jimmy says with a smug grin "because you'll never find a partner willing to put up with your worthless hide!"

From the Memorial Auditorium in Spartanburg SC. Previously recorded & airing on 2/4/88 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Gordon Solie Ring announcer/Interviews: Sean Moony Match #1 Cocoa Samoa vs Sean Royal The two bruisers of their respective teams meet ahead of the SPC challenging for the United States Tag Team Titles at SuperBrawl. Nothing fancy, just a hard-hitting opener to get the fans warmed up. Cocoa gets Royal up for a Samoan drop but Royal rakes his eyes allowing him to turn it into a crucifix for the win. Match #2 Billy Joe Travis defeats "Mad Dog" Mike Mulligan with the "Just a swingin" neckbreaker. SM: Ladies and gentlemen, my guests at this time are involved in a massive six man tag at SuperBrawl. Please welcome *rather nervously* the Paul Jones Army. *Boos as Jones leads Borne, Kabuki & Abby to ringside* SM: Paul Jones, you're lead your men in a series of attacks against Super Strong Machine and what everyone wants to know is why? PJ: First of all Sean Moony, my name is "Number One" Paul Jones and don't you forget it. And as to why I sent my troops after that masked moron, it's very simple. I built this army for the sole purpose of crushing anyone who stands in my way and he just happened to be the first victim. All he had to do was take his lumps like a man and serve as a warning to the rest of the roster. But no, that wasn't good enough for him he had to go and drag those two punk kids into this, as if they have a chance against the killers I've assembled! At SuperBrawl, that goof in the Halloween mask and his little sidekicks are gonna learn the hard way that the Paul Jones Army is the most dominant force in the NWA. Men, show'em! Match #3 The Paul Jones Army (Matt Borne, The Great Kabuki & Abdullah the Butcher) w/"Number One" Paul Jones defeat Marlon Rudyard Cole, Temple Davie Osborne & Drake Jerome Carmen when Borne pinned Cole with a Piledriver. Match #4 Ricky Morton vs "Superstar" Bill Dundee w/Ms Linda Dundee clearly had a chip on his shoulder as he faced one of the men who took the NWA World Tag Team Titles away from Street and himself. Morton uses his world famous selling to make Dundee look like a brute. Dundee goes for "Bombs Away" but Morton rolls through for the 1...2...3! Match #5 "Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin w/Precious defeats Lachlan Drew Barker with a Brainbuster. Jimmy goes to deliver a second one to the prone Barker but Ron runs down and Jimmy heads for the hills with Precious following behind. Ron takes the mic and challenges Jimmy to a match at SuperBrawl! *As Mooney is making the announcement, SSM hands him a note explaining that he has dubbed his students The Zero Fighters* Match #6 The Zero Fighters (Keiichi Yamada & Hiroshi Hase) w/Super Strong Machine defeat Galen Armani Bateson & Oswaldo Linwood Perez when Bateson tapped to the "Scorpion Death Lock" *Before the main event, Solie reveals that tomorrow nights episode of NWA Worldwide will have a special announcement from NWA president Him Crockett Jr* Main Event. NWA World Television Title. "Tennessee Stud" Robert Fuller(c) vs "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers We close the show with a good ol'fashion southern brawl. Jaggers may be closer to the end of his career than the beginning but he still knows how to put up a fight as Fuller finds out. Jaggers seems to be setting up for the "Hangman's" neckbreaker when Jimmy Golden runs down and gets on the apron. Jaggers breaks off Fuller and sends Golden to the floor with a stiff right hand but he gives the champ a breather which he used to tap the toe of his boot against the mat. Jaggers turns around into a big boot and three seconds later, Fuller has claimed his first successful defense.

The Corporal lays down the challenge to Charland, meet me in a boot camp match if you got the guts. The Gunslingers enact some Texas justice on the United Kingdom. Perez is ready for his rematch for in Winnipeg. We get a nice recap of the hell Colon's been through. Another solid win for Chicky. Morrow is taking the AWA worldwide as Title Night is heading to Puerto Rico. And that's not all as he announces the creation of Champagne Slam. Dream Machine takes umbrige with Johnny's quest for redemption. The Bruise Brothers are as confident as the they are jacked. Gagne and Blackwell are about to lay a hurting on Mando who gets bailed out by his newest client El Canek. Putski gave a good effort but the TV title stays in Larry Land. I'm really feeling the Warrior vibes from these vignettes.

The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) defeat Tough Guy Inc (Don Bass & Big Daddy Cyrus) when Mark hit a top rope sunsetflip on Bass. Abdullah the Butcher w/"Number One" Paul Jones defeats "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers with the "Sudanese Meat Cleaver" "British Magician" Steve Wright defeated Brad Anderson w/Ole & Arn with the "Octopus hold". Ole & Arn tried to interfere earlier in the match and were thrown out. "Superstar Bill Dundee w/Ms Linda defeats Tom "MegaMan" McGee with "Bombs Away" NWA United States Title. Bruiser Brody(c) vs Col Debeers w/Jr Foley ends in a double c.o. NWA World Tag Team Titles. The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton Robert Gibson)(c) vs The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon went to a 45 minute time limit draw.

NWA Live @ Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro NC 1/31/88 Radiance (Jimmy Del Ray & Chic Donavon) w/Precious defeat two local talents with a double flapjack. The debuting Billy Joe Travis defeats Barry O with the "Just a swingin" neckbreaker. "Chief" Joe Lightfoot defeats "World's Strongest Man" Bill Kazmaier when Black Bart ran down and hit Kazmaier with his bullwhip allowing Lightfoot to steal the win. Tom "MegaMan" McGee defeats The Monster Rip Morgan w/Jr Foley by count-out. During a brawl on the floor, Morgan pins McGee against the ring post and goes for a splash but McGee ducked out of the way sending Morgan to run straight into the pole. McGee climbs in the ring and Morgan can't beat the count. Black Bart defeats "Rugged" Ron Garvin by DQ when a bandaged Bill Kazmaier runs down and attacks Bart. After security gets Bart out of the ring, Kazmaier apologizes to Garvin who makes a "it's cool, I get it" gesture. The Zero Fighters (Keiichi Yamada & Hiroshi Hase) defeat The Paul Jones Army (Matt Borne & Kabuki) w/"Number One" Paul Jones Jones gets on the apron with a chair and holds it up so Kabuki can send Hase into it. Hase reverses and Kabuki crashes into the chair instead sending Jones to the floor and allowing Hase to roll up Kabuki. NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles. The Celestial Trinity (Zodiac, Jason the Terrible & Angel of Death)(c) defeat Special Forces (Commandos Boone, Frazier & Ranger Ross) when AoD hit the "Death Sentence" on Frazier. NWA World Heavyweight Title. "Nature Boy" Ric Flair (c) vs Tully Blanchard w/JJ Dillon went to a 60 minute time limit draw.

Well hello there.

Super Destroyer uses Jackson to send a message to Duggan. Vader wins the battle of the big men. Hercules & Rick have a wild hossfest. Young Scott gets a huge singles win. I'm sure Rick was just to tired to come out and help. Nord the Barbarian gets snake-bit. Goliath helps Duggan hold on to the TV title. Reed gets a big win -and a bigger pop- in his return match. Kassie prevents the night from being a full blowout by helping Dibiase win the Louisiana title. What a sight! Vader bursts through the cage to fall on Williams. People would be talking about that forever.
-
Steamboat is clearly welcoming the challenge facing him at the Clash but Bigelow may be cracking under the pressure. The Road Warriors may be headed to Japan but they still intend to settle their debt with the TT's. Race may not be able to take on Rhodes himself but he has a surprise in store for the American Dream. Savage and Hayes is a promo battle I'd love to hear. Sabu gets his biggest opportunity yet when he challenges the Superfly for the TV title. Konnan vs Wild Pegasus, Title vs Title. Let's go!
-
Chicky and the OG Midnights get to show off. Charland & Kirchner take turns interfering in each other's matches, though Charland is a bit smarter about it. Griz has a wild one with The Wild One. That six man definitely stole the show. The Glamour Boys just can't overcome the power of the Bruise Brothers.
-
Synergy put one over on Badd Company. One night in Larry Land and I'm sure the crowd is already eager for someone to get the title off Zbyszko. Nikita is ready to tear Adams' head off in Winnipeg. Abbuda goes for a fireball ahead of the Caribbean Death match. Peterson wins another battle in his eternal war with Kelly. Solid showcases for Mean Streak & the Crippler. Wild finish to Gunslingers v United Kingdom. There's definitely more coming. The World champion sends us off the air with some Bad News for Al Perez.

NWA drops Ron Slinker and signs Billy Joe Travis.

Taped at the JMU before Main Event. Originally airing on 1/29/88 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Bob Caudle & David Crockett. "Rotten" Ron Starr defeats The Pearl with a Brain buster. "Pitbull" Kerry Brown defeats "Tough" Tony Falk with a Powerbomb. Tough Guy Inc (Don Bass & Big Daddy Cyrus) defeat George South & "Stray Cat" Brodie Chase with a double clothesline on South. Main event. Winner challenges for the NWA World Television Title on next week's Main Event. "Hangman" Bobby Jaggers defeats Ron Slinker with the "Hangman's" neckbreaker. In other news.... Keiichi Yamada & Hiroshi Hase have Bob Caudle read a note to the crowd on their behalf. Through Caudle, they announce they will team with their "Sensei" Super Strong Machine to take on Matt Borne, The Great Kabuki and Abdullah the Butcher of the Paul Jones Army at SuperBrawl. Jones other clients have their own date for SuperBrawl as the Moondogs will face their rivals The Renegade Warriors!

From the JMU Center in Harrisonburg VA. Previously recorded & airing on 1/28/88 on the USA Network. On Commentary: Gordon Solie Ring announcer/interview: Sean Moony. Match #1 "British Magician" Steve Wright vs David "Fit" Finlay w/Jr Foley Fans will remember that when Foley was last waving the flag of the Commonwealth in what was then Mid-Atlantic Championship Wrestling, he & his charges had several run-ins with Wright. The two found themselves on opposing sides again as the British Magician took on Foley's fighting Irishman. The two had a scientific and surprisingly clean affair that was only occasionally broken up by bouts of brawling by Finlay. The end sees Wright trying to synch in his famous "Octopus hold" but Finlay managed to stand up straight before the move was all the way secure. It looks like he's going for a hip toss but instead he brings his knee up and into Wright's head, knocking the technical master for a loop and leaving him vulnerable for the Tombstone Piledriver to give Finlay the hard fought win. (Mooney is joined by Ranger Ross and the Commandos. The put over their shared background of military service and the bonds of brotherhood that creates. Ross says the most important rule in the service is to never leave a man behind so they've sworn to have each other's backs as the NWA's Special Forces!) Match #2 Special Forces defeat Sly Batts, Lennox Sherburn & Cyrus Arterberry with a Frazier legdrop on Batts. SM: Ladies and gentlemen, joining me at this time are two men whose actions last week caused quite the stir in the NWA, please welcome Jimmy Del Ray & Chic Donavon, Radiance! *Major boos as the two arrogantly strut to the ring* SM: Gentlemen, I'll come right to the point. Last week you assaulted Ron Garvin after his debut match for no desernable reason. What on earth possessed you to do such a thing. JDR: Sean Moony, Chic & I agreed to take Sherri Martel on as our manager for one reason, she swore she had a plan to take us to the top. She was gonna get us on the biggest stages, she was gonna get us big money matches and most importantly she'd was going to make us champions. Well Christmas Chaos showed just how well her plan was working out for us, beaten by a pair of barefooted savages! Well we had enough of her little ideas and sent her packing! And now we're on to bigger and better things, ain't that right Chicy? CD: You know it J-man! Because now we found someone who's more than just talk, someone who knows first hand what it takes to climb to the top of the mountain. And know with our new leader, there's nobody that can stand in our way. 1988 is gonna be the year of Radiance baby! SM: Well that's all well & good but when can we expect to meet this new leader of yours? JDR: That's the best part! Because you don't have to wait another second. Allow me the pleasure of introducing, the new leader of Radiance...."Gorgeous" Jimmy Garvin along with Precious! *A gasp fills the arena which gives way to a chorus of boos as the infamous duo confidently stride to ringside. Garvin gives both Del Ray & Donovan a hug with Precious (the blonde from the previous weeks) giving each a peck on the cheek* SM: Jimmy Garvin! I can't believe this, how could you do something so vile, so despicable as to have these two attack your own brother? JG:*As Garvin starts talking Precious is spraying a can of..... something into the air* Brother? Brother Sean Moony? Let me tell you something right now, Ron Garvin and I might share the same name but that man is no brother of mine. My whole entire life Ron's been jealous of me. Mom and dad were always bragging about me, I was the most popular kid in school, girls couldn't keep their hands off me. Ya know if I'm being honest I can't entirely blame him for being jealous. But that ain't the problem, the problem is that ever since I got into wrestling he's been calling, he's been writing, he's been all kinds of begging & pleading for us to be a team. Oh he says it's cause we're family and we should stick together but I know what he's thinking. Ronnie's looking to ride my coattails like he's done ever since I was a kid. Well I've had all I can stand and I can't stand no more. I heard Ronnie was coming to the NWA and I knew this was the perfect place to get him out my flawless hair for good and I found the perfect men to help me in these two thurghbreads. With my help these two are heading straight for the highlife and.... *Jimmy is cut off by the crowd breaking out in a cheer as Ron Garvin rushes the ring and makes a beeline for Jimmy. He tackles his brother to the mat and starts pounding away as Precious is screaming her head off. Del Ray & Donovan jump in and manage to pull Ron off Jimmy. Ron tries to fight but Jimmy regroups and joins in for a 3-1 beating that ends with Jimmy giving his older brother a brainbuster* Match #3 "The Haitian Sensation Tyree Pride defeats "Lethal" Lucius Pratt with a flying bodypress. Match #4 The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) vs The Moondogs (Rex & Spot) w/"Number One" Paul Jones Fans on Western States Wrestling will remember these two teams had a violent feud over that territories tag titles. The two teams have collided on the loop and now bring their reignited rivalry to NWA TV. As would be expected it's a brawl from the word go with the ref nearly losing control several times. It's during on of these breakdowns that Jones is able to slide Spot his bone which he uses on Chris when the ref is distracted allowing him to score the win for his team. Jones has a smug grin as he leads his team away but the look on the Youngblood's faces make clear this isn't over yet. (Joe Lightfoot joins Moony before his match. Says he's been on a Spirit Quest after his failure at Christmas Chaos. Says that the Great Spirit had granted him the strength of the bear and the cunning of the fox and with these gifts he shall blaze a warpath through the entire NWA) Match #5 "Chief" Joe Lightfoot defeats "All Right" Alvin Rogers with the Indian Death lock. (VTR- we see a montage of Adrian Street & Bill Dundee training for their main event rematch at SuperBrawl. Rock music plays in the background as the two left weights, run down a dirt road and spare with each other as well as Norman Smiley. The video ends with them staring into the camera, eyes full of determination to get their belts back) Match #6 "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez defeats Pain Master with the "Flying Burrito" Main Event. NWA World Television Title. Super Strong Machine(c) vs "Tennessee Stud" Robert Fuller SSM has been a foul mood recently due to being on the receiving end of multiple attacks by the Paul Jones Army. That trend continues tonight with the Japanese star lighting up the tall Tennessean with blistering chops and forearms. Say what you want about Fuller but the man is no pushover and he gladly introduces SSM to some good ol'fashioned southern brawling. The end sees Paul Jones leading Borne and Kabuki to ringside only to have Yamada & Hase intercept them. All the chaos distracts SSM and the ref both. Fuller uses the breather to tap the toe of his boot against the mat. Security clears out the intruders and SSM turns around to a big boot and three seconds later, Robert Fuller is the NEW NWA World Television champion!

Murdoch has at least one friend, and considering it's Butch Reed one may be ent. Dibiase brings in Konga so he & Nord can form the team that was always meant to be.... The Barbarians! A quietly successful debut for Poffo. The tag champs look strong and are ready to take on both Hot Stuff Inc and the Barbarians. Another great duel promo from Roberts & Ellering. Though I can't help but notice that Jake said he agreed with "almost everything" Paul said. Eddie & Missy continue to keep Rick away from the mic Title or not, Super Destroyer is still gunning for Duggan. Luger & Woman definitely have a plan. Rotundo/Super D vs Duggan/Williams would make a hell of a tag match.
-
Orton truly looks like the Ace as he scored two eliminations. Konnan takes him down but the shared disdain between him and Zebra cost them both. The Freebirds try to help Buddy Jack across the finish line but they're thrown out allowing the Superfly to become the new WCW Television champion. Steamboat agrees to a rematch at CotC but Bigelow is looking a little desperate. Speaking of desperate, Spivey sounding a little worried about his own future. The Road Warriors have got two things on their minds. Knocking over the Twin Towers than getting their belts back from the Rockers. Rhodes throws down the challenge but will Race accept?
-
First up, Oakland. Steamboat shows his Demonic side. The Mad Dog wins a slugfest against PCO. The Bulldozer steps up to help The Hollywood Vampires and his cousin The Undertaker. St Clair stops the charge of Bull Pain. The Southern Boys prove their still worth keeping an eye on. The Widowmaker declaws the Cheetah Kid. Onwards to San Francisco. The Malenko win a shootout with the Golden Guns. The Animal chokes out the Wild eyed Southern Boy. Christopher & Cyrus go to a draw. This could be a fun rivalry. A wild brawl between Rose, The SCS & the Force. British Steel keep the Wild Things at bay. Hennig proves to be even harder than a Diamond. Finally Fresno. Cheetah Kid & the Golden Guns are both back on the winning track. Mr Hughes makes the Southern Boys go 0-2 in singles action. Impressive finish with Neidhart plucking Owen out of midair. Camp Cornette scores their first win over RPG' Crew. PCO wins another hossfest with Acevedo. Mr Backlund gives young Regal a wrestling lesson he'll never forget. Hall nearly has Payne beat when the Vampires get involved. Thankfully Dustin & The Bulldozer are on the scene. 20 matches over 2 nights makes Honolulu the place to be.
-
The Technicians were just to beaten down to take the titles from Venomous. Thanks to the bad shoulder, the TV title is going to Larry Land. But Busick still had one hell of a run. Unfortunately for George, Blackwell still wasn't allowed at ringside allowing Idol to capture the Mid-American title. The Bruise Brothers certainly left a few bruises on the Glamour Boys in route to retaining their titles. Bad News hangs on to the World Title despite a false finish. Perez definitely impressed though.
-
The Synergy/Badd Company feud is officially underway. This is gonna be fun. Rich looks to have a Wild ride in the AWA. Frenchy helps his man eke out a win over the Corporal. Gerry agrees to bring back Blackwell but won't stop Canek when the luchador comes looking for payback. Kelly always seems to step his game up when the Vin Man is around. Ray Stevens returns to show Ray Oliver what being a Crippler is all about. Mando properly introduces his hermano's to the AWA audience. Curtis may be gone but Abbuda Iaukea is still around to wreck havoc. I'd say Adams could eat those words but I'm not sure Nikita is gonna leave him with any teeth left. Kokina costs Strong in the main event. You're really capturing the utter insanity of the Warrior's promo.
