No wounded man can stand before the Lord Humongous. Haynes runs through Tatum leaving Victory upset & Mr Bob Backlund....indifferent. Ed Ganter certainly strikes me as the kinda guy who'd appreciate Cactus' style. Blackman taps Lane which certainly puts Black Gold in the champs heads. Mr Backlund finally takes out his frustration on double j. Nice visual with the heel group standing tall at the end.

Taped at the Catawba College Goodman Gym in Salisbury NC along with With World Championship Wrestling. Originally airing on the USA Network 4/17/87 at 11am. With your host Gordon Solie. Iceman Parsons w/Slick defeats George South with a Piledriver. "The Polynesian Prince" Siva Afi defeats Dusty Wolfe with a jumping headbutt. The Outlaws (Ron Bass & Black Bart) defeat The Interns (1&2) when Bart pinned Intern #2 with the "Texas Trash Compactor" Winner challenges for the Television Title next week on WCW. Brickhouse Brown defeats "Dandy" Don Bass with a swinging neckbreacker. In other news Gordon Solie recaps Ric Flair seemingly being ousted from the Horsemen & announces the group will explain their actions next week on WCW. A pre taped promo from the Renegade Warriors who call out the Brutha's in Arms & vow to get the United States Tag Team Titles back. A pre taped promo from Adrain Street as he complains about "incompetent American officiating" that cost him & his teammates the World Six Man Tag Titles. Says Dundee has returned to Australia in protest he'll be staying around to see "some proper British justice" gets done...& He won't be alone he says as Giant Haystacks lumbers into frame. Stan Hansen joins Solie for a promo. Says the Road Kill Tour has failed to produce a real challenge so far so he did what any real man would do & took the initiative. Says he doesn't see anything Macho about a Man who gets all round up over a woman. Says the whole thing with Adonis could've been avoided if Savage had kept the "little woman" in the kitchen where she belongs! Says she'll have to stay home to tend to Savage after he takes the United States Title....& his head along with it!

Little Heart fends off Morgon's attempt to become a double champ in a nice showcase opener. Cool of WWW to hype WCPW's show. Combs heads to Chicago victorious but sore. Peterson shows why she leads the Giant Slayers. Bennett & Singh running wild is a good way to reheat them after the loss in the cage. Richter defeats the former camp proving that her return to form wasn't just a one-off.
-
A Bruise Brothers win is a good start to any show. Peterson wins but its Kelly who's standing tall. I was wagering on Fuller/Armstrong being a double elimination but the Stud proves me wrong. Slater overcomes the numbers to advance. WOW! Gange may not have gotten Blackwell on board but Boone's not a bad sustitiute. Glamour Boys get their revenge on the Bombers. Gotta hand it to DJ, he gave it his best shot but Fuller's a handful at 100%. Gama puts up quite the fight but Slater's going to the finals. Iaukea has quite the surprise with the addition of TNT & Kokina. Thankfully the Bruise Brothers were there to lead a hand. Bring on the 6 man. My boy Slater is going to WrestleRic...er Rock, WrestleRock. Rich retains thanks to the Dream Machine babay! His coming to the ring wearing a crown was classic! I'm so hyped for Rich vs Slater!

From the Catawba College Goodman Gym in Salisbury NC National Wrestling Alliance presents.... Originally airing 4/16/87 on the USA Network at 8pm. On Commentary:Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone Ring Announcer:David Crockett (A highlight reel from the Crockett Cup plays, showing top moments from both nights before ending on a shot of the winners, Jumbo Tsurata Tatsumi Fujinami posing with their winnings. We then cut to the new opening video showing fast paced NWA action set to "Born in the USA" by Bruce Springsteen. We close on a shot of NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tully Blanchard before cutting to Caudle & Schiavone at ringside) BC: Wrestling fans, welcome to the first episode of NWA World Championship Wrestling here on the USA Network! I'm Bob Caudle alongside Tony Schiavone and Tony, the wrestling world is still buzzing about the epic two night event, The Crockett Cup TS: Indeed they are Bob & we here in the NWA extend our heartfelt congratulations to AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata Tatsumi Fujinami for claiming the trophy as well as the Million Dollar prize. Fans tonight in our main event NWA World Heavyweight Champion Tully Blanchard will team with Ric Flair to face "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes & a partner of his choosing, after what went down on night 2 there's no question Rhodes will be looking to get his hands on Blanchard. All that & more on our first ever episode of World Championship Wrestling! Now let's get to the action. "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase vs "Iron Fist" Duke Myers Myers makes Hase work for it with some stiff blows but the Japanese sensation guts it out long enough to synch in the "Scorpion Death Lock" Radiance (Doug Somers & Jimmy Del Ray) vs The S&S Express (Joe Savoldi Shaun Simpson) A solid display of tag team wrestling by two teams looking to climb the ranks. It's ultimately the underhanded tactics of Somers that secures victory as he gets his feet on the ropes during a backslide. Chris Youngblood vs Tiger Conway Jr w/Slick (Announcers inform the audience of the draw between the two teams on the last loop) Youngblood overcomes the antics of Slick & the craftyness of Conway to nail a Tomahawk chop for the win. Arn Anderson w/JJ Dillon vs Sweet Brown Sugar SBS shows a lot of heart but the skill of Anderson is too much & he falls to a Gordbuster. "Dirty" Dutch Mantel vs Jason the Terrible (Announcers hype the Posse as the new NWA World Six Man Tag Team Champions while also reporting Jason's assault with the axe handle) A wild affair that completely goes off the rails as Jason goes to strike Mantel with his axhandle only for Mantel to produce a bullwhip leading to a standoff. Finally Zodiac comes down to lead Jason away while Mantel grabs the mic & implores them to come back so he can introduce them to "Shoo Baby" Main Event (Dusty milks the suspense for a bit before revealing his partner to be...Manny Fernandez!) "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes & "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez vs Four Horsemen (Blanchard & Flair) It's the explosive offense of Rhodes/Fernandez vs the refined, scientific approach of the Horsemen. Throughout the match, fans pick up on a tension between Blanchard & Flair which hinders their teamwork at certain points. This plays into the finish which sees Blanchard holding Fernandez for an axhandle off the top rope by Flair only for Fernandez to move causing Flair to strike his own partner! In his shock, Flair is knocked to the floor allowing Fernandez to hit the "Flying Burrito" on Blanchard for the shocking win! As the faces celebrate with the fans, Flair goes to check on Blanchard only to get shoved away. A heated discussion breaks out causing Dillon to summon the Andersons to intervine. It seems like cooler heads will prevail as Dillon calls for a handshake only for Ole to nail Flair from behind! The rest of the Horsemen join in, stomping on Flair. Blanchard instructs the Andersons to hold Flair up. They lift him by the arms allowing Blanchard to blast Flair with the World Title. Finally security & preliminary wrestlers arrive in force enough to make the Horsemen retreat. The show ends as medics check on the bloody Flair.

NWA sends Bill Dundee to WCPW for full use of Johnny Ace.

Glad to hear Tsurata & Fujinami are getting their props both back in Japan & the AWA for winning the Crockett Cup. Slater's ready to show Cooley & Royal what a REAL cowboy looks like! Gagne may be annoying af but he's got his Chosen Ones on point. The Bullet is ready to take aim at the Stud. El Jefe is back and he's already taken an eye! Kirchner's payback is gonna be sweet. Putski gets a solid TV win. Resnik actually renders Larry Z speechless! That's a career highlight easily. Gama is supremely confident. I'm betting Blackwell beats it out of him. DJ gives a good recap of his history with Kelly ahead of their match on Monday. I don't blame Resnick bailing on an interview with Morgon & the Sheepherders. The Glamour Boys & The Bombers join a already loaded card at the Mid-South Coliseum. Busick needs a bit of help from Lightning Strike but his reign as TV champ continues. Steamboat & Rich close the show on a pair of strong promos.
-
Barr vs Sabu sounds like the kind of sugar-rush opener that fans today would love. The Bomb Squad blasts through British Steel. Tenta crushes The Ace. Backlund aides his boys against the Odd Couple. Black Gold gets a solid win over Los Guerreros OMG outfights PCO. Konnan gets a win in his war against Humongous but pays for it. The main event features two big, beefy boys doing big, beefy boy things. You can't not love it.

NWA Live @ "Old" Charlotte Coliseum in Charlotte NC 4/14/87 "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase wins a 20 man battle royal to challenge Tully Blanchard for the NWA World Heavyweight Championship in the main event. "Jumping" Joe Savoldi defeats "Gigolo" Jimmy Del Ray with a sunsetflip. "Pretty Boy" Doug Somers defeats Shaun Simpson with a brainbuster. NWA World Six Man Tag Team Titles The Posse (Bill Irwin, Bobby Jaggers & Dutch Mantel) defeat Giant Haystacks, "Superstar Bill Dundee & "Exotic" Adrain Street(c) w/Ms Linda when Mantel, in an impressive display of strength, caught Dundee in a "Bombs Away" attempt & turned it into the "Tennessee Chainsaw" TITLE CHANGE!!!! The Outlaws (Ron Bass & Black Bart) defeat The Southern Boys (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong) when Bass pinned Armstrong with the "Texas Gordbuster" NWA United States Tag Team Titles Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley & Tiger Conway Jr)(c) w/Slick vs The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) ends in a 20 minute time limit draw. Falls Count Anywhere Match "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez defeats Big Daddy Ritter w/Slick with a Piledriver through the concession stand table. NWA World Heavyweight Title Tully Blanchard(c) w/JJ Dillon defeats "Super Rookie" Hiroshi Hase with the slingshot suplex.

NWA Live @ Civic Center in Charleston WV 4/12/87 Rocky King defeats Mitch Snow with a DDT. "Outlaw" Joel Deaton defeats Joe Lightfoot with a bulldog . "Jumping" Joe Savoldi defeats "Gigolo" Jimmy Del Ray with a sunsetflip. The Posse (Bill Irwin, Bobby Jaggers & Dutch Mantel) defeat The Celestial Trinity (Zodiac, Jason the Terrible & Angel of Death) by DQ when Jason started hitting everyone on the opposing team with a axe handle. "Raging Bull" Manny Fernandez defeats "TN Stud" Robert Fuller with the "Flying Burrito" NWA World Television Title "The Natural" Mark Fleming(c) defeats "Chief" Wahoo McDaniels with a rear naked choke.

Simmons & Dingo may be the ultimate powerhouse duo! As Hito & Fuchi find out the hard way. Jacko's already having to play peacemaker between his buddies Tatum & the rest of the Knights. The image of Rose trying to preen after the win he got by getting squished by his own partner tickles me. Black Tiger retains against a man who may end up taking his place one day. Niedhart's bum shoulder cost the Foundation the tag titles. Glad to see the MXE rebound after the Crockett Cup though. Windham is seemingly seconds away from victory over Mr Bob Backlund when time runs out. I'm all in for a rematch.
-
Big Joe squeezes a win out of Tanaka. Mr Bob Backlund may have had a Freudian slip courtesy of new problem child Tatum. Fuchi takes advantage of British Steel's slump to score a win over Brookside. Konnan sets out to prove himself by slaying the giant of the Crazy Gang. Speaking of whom, Sabu may be too Crazy even for them! Owen returns from hiatus with a win. Regal's had just about all he's gonna take. Credit to Hughes for nit backing up from a guy with a chair.

Jailbreak is looking good as the ladies are coming to WCPW.
-
Little Heart guts it out to retain her TV title 2-1 against the monster Singh. Morgan is going into the cage a little bit sore but ready for more. Combs scores a successful defense of the duel straps. Richter seems to have finally stabilized but can she fully rebound. Morgan & Simmes retain in the cage! Who's next? Medusa subdues her dangerous but unprepared adversary. McIntyre is just missing that something special & it costs her the World title.

From the Carolina Coliseum in Columbia South Carolina. Airing Live on Pay-Per-View it's.... (Sweeping shot of the SOLD OUT arena & the absolutely raucous crowd before cutting to Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone in the booth) BC: Wrestling fans welcome to night 2 of the Jim Crockett Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament! I'm Bob Caudle alongside Tony Schiavone and Tony what an incredible night 1 was in Myrtle Beach last night. 7 teams advanced for a shot at the trophy as well as the million dollar prize. TS:And fans tonight you will see the quarter finals, semifinals & finals of the 1987 Crockett Cup as well as 2 huge title matches. Adrain Adonis will challenge the "Macho Man" Randy Savage for the United States Title & in the big one, the one we've all been waiting for Tully Blanchard will defend the NWA World Heavyweight Title against "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes! Not bad for our first Pay-Per-View wouldn't you say Bob? BC: Indeed I would Tony, and we haven't even mentioned the monumental announcement from NWA President Jim Crockett Jr last night, where he revealed that effective next weekend the NWA is moving to the USA Network! We're all exceptionally excited about that but we've got a great night in store for you right now. Let's send it to the ring where the beautiful & talented Reba McIntyre will start the show with our national anthem! Crockett Cup quarterfinals. Each match has a 30 minute time limit. The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)(UWF) vs PCW Golden State Tag Team Champions Badd Company (Pat Tanaka Paul Diamond) w/Gary Hart An exciting fast paced match that served as something of a coming out party for those unfamiliar with Badd Company's work on the west coast. The end sees Hart get up on the apron and Diamond attempt to swing Morton into him but Morton reverses the whip sending Diamond colliding with his own manager! Hart goes flying of the apron while Diamond staggers backwards into a O'Connor roll for the 1-2-3. Winners advancing to the semifinals: The Rock n Roll Express! The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w JJ Dillon (NWA) vs The Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts)(UWF) In what was either an appreciation of the Freebirds comedic display the previous night or a testament to just how hated the Four Horsemen are, The Freebirds are given a rather strong face reaction which they couldn't resist playing to. It didn't stop them from fighting fire with fire whenever the Andersons tried to take a shortcut. The result was a competitive but rough match that the southern crowd loved. As he has so many times in the past, Dillon proved the deciding factor as he lowbriged Hayes during a pier-sixer leaving Roberts to fall victim to a double gordbuster. Winners & advancing to the semifinals: The Minnesota Wrecking Crew! AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami vs NWA World Six Man Tag Team Champions "Superstar" Bill Dundee & "Exotic" Adrain Street w/Ms Linda The Japanese duo didn't quite seem to know what to make of Street at first but after the first few exchanges in which he employed his classic British wrestling, they appeared to gain some respect for him. There was plenty more mat wrestling to come, supplemented by some stiff strikes & throws from the AWA champs as well as some Memphis style brawling courtesy of Dundee. The end sees the Superstar go for "Bombs Away" on Jumbo who ducks under than flattened Dundee with a Lariat when he got up. Winners advancing to the semifinals:AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami! NWA United States Title Match "Macho Man" Randy Savage(c) w/Ms Elizabeth vs "Adorable" Adrian Adonis After the repeated harassment of his valet, it was no surprise that Savage tore into his opponent as soon as the bell rang. What WAS a surprise to many however, was just how aggressive Adonis was in retaliating & the match serves as a way for Adonis to show off how effective a brawler he can be after months of his "Adorable" gimmick. After a physical battle of attriction, Savage manages to put down his latest challenger in empathic fashion with 2 "Savage Elbows". Elizabeth runs into the ring to embrace her man as the crowd cheers. Suddenly he looks up & his face goes wide with shock. He has just enough time to push Elizabeth out of the way before Stan Hansen nearly takes his head off with a Lariat! He then picks up the title belt & starts using it to whip Savage! Elizabeth summons her courage & tries to grab the belt away from Hansen who roughly shoves her to the mat. He then starts to close in as she crawls back to the corner. Thankfully just as he's about to move in, security swarms the ring as well as NWA officials who threaten serious repercussions if he doesn't leave immediately. He does so to deafening boos as medics check on the shaken Elizabeth & battered Savage. Winner and STILL NWA United States Champion:"Macho Man" Randy Savage Crockett Cup semifinals. Each match has a 45 minute time limit. The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn &Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon)(NWA) defeat The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson) (UWF) It's the methodical, mat based style of the Andersons vs the high octane offensive flurry of the Express. The Andersons cut the ring in half as only they can allowing Morton to play face in peril as only he can. The inevitable hot tag gets a mega pop as Gibson is your proverbial "house of fire". Unfortunately that enthusiasm costs him as he hits a crossbody on Ole only it hits to high allowing the crafty veteran to roll through & hook the tights for the sudden victory. Winners advancing to the finals of the Crockett Cup: The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (During the introductions, Jim Cornette once again snatches the mic away. "Pay attention Davey boy, I'll show you how it's done... Ladies and Gent *pauses then shakes his head laughing* Oh who am I kidding? Things that live in Columbia. It is your honor to have me introduce to you...the team that resides in every girls dream & every man's nightmare...the men who make more money in a year than anyone in this cesspool will make in a lifetime....and the men who could snatch up any of your wives with nothing more than a sideways glance, if there were any worth taking that is...the GREATEST Tag Team Champions Pacific Coast Wrestling has EVER had..."Beautiful" Bobby & "Sweet" Stan... The Midnight Express! AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami defeat PCW Pacific Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w Jim Cornette The fans were ready to shut Cornette's mouth themselves after that introduction & reaction with jubilation to every chop, slam & suplex the Japanese duo landed on them. To their credit Eaton & Lane weathered the initial storm & used their own mixture of quick offense & tight teamwork to battle back. Nevertheless, Tsurata & Fujinami kept coming back for more to the increasing worry of Cornette. Finally the "Louisville Lip" decides to make a move. As the ref is trying to break up a fight between Eaton & Tsurata, Cornette climbs into the ring & goes to nail Fujinami with the racket only for "The Dragon" to move causing the racket to connect with Lane! Cornette was horrified by his mistake which caused the crowd to erupt in cheers which got louder as Fujinami tossed the loudmouth manager to the floor as Eaton &Tsurata's brawl spilled to the floor. Lane is starting to pull himself up as the ref turns around but a "dragon suplex" puts him back down for the 3 count. Winners advancing to the finals of the Crockett Cup:AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami! NWA World Heavyweight Title Tully Blanchard(c) w/JJ Dillon vs "The American Dream" Dusty Rhodes As much a contrast of personalities as a contrast of styles. The arrogant, elitist, mat technician Blanchard vs the down to earth man of the people Rhodes who, while he may lag behind in the wrestling department, nevertheless has the crowd hooked on every move he makes. What follows is a dramatic, back-and-forth encounter that has viewers on the edge of their seats & sometimes out of them entirely. Near falls are traded & finishers are narrowly avoid. Finally at around the 30 minute mark, Dusty connects with the "flip, flop & fly" into the "Bionic Elbow" before diving into the cover. The crowd counts along with the ref, 1-2- JJ dives into the ring & breaks the count! Dusty gets to his feet & grabs Dillon by the collar, he polls the crowd before delivering the "Bionic Elbow" to Dillon to thunderous applause. Result: Dusty Rhodes wins by DQ, Tully Blanchard retains the title. Crockett Cup Finals. No time limit The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson)(NWA) vs AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami With no Dillon at ringside, The Andersons are forced to rely on their considerable mat skills & textbook targeting of the opponents arm. The AWA Tag Champs battle back with stiff strikes & their own formidable wrestling abilities. What follows is a tightly contested and -by Horsemen standards- surprisingly clean match. About halfway through the match, a groggy Dillon makes his way to ringside & while his clients are clearly happy to see him, their reactions make clear they were expecting something else, or rather someone else. Dillon does what he can to influence the outcome but in his frazzled state his ability to do so is hampered & he's ultimately helpless to stop Ole falling victim to a Lariat/Dragon suplex combination. The AWA duo offer their opponents handshakes which the Andersons slap away before storming off with Dillon with cameras just picking up Ole shouting "where the hell was Flair?" Back in the ring Mrs Crockett presents the trophy & check to the AWA World Tag Team Champions who accept both with a bow of gratitude which is awkwardly returned. Confetti rains down as the winners proudly display their titles, their trophy & the million dollar check. Winners of the 1987 Jim Crockett Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament: AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami!

Bracket for the quarterfinals for the Jim Crockett Sr Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament PCW Golden State Tag Team Champions Badd Company (Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond) w/Gary Hart vs The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)(UWF) The Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts)(UWF) vs The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon(NWA) NWA World Tag Team Champions "Superstar" Bill Dundee & "Exotic" Adrian Street w/Ms Linda vs AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami The Midnight Express receive a bye to the semifinals.

That's quite the tournament for nest Monday. I picking Slater to win it all. The Olympians seem to have found their footing. Kelly looks to settle an old score on his path to gold. Joining the Quebec Connection pays off for Lafon as he wins a TV title shot. The Original Midnight Express arrive with a win. I get a feeling Corny is going to be making an urgent call to Mama's lawyers. Coolley & Royal msy be biting off a bit more than they can chew calling out Slater AND Mulligan. A Bruise Brothers win always brings a smile to my face. Taylor & Zenk arrive in style. Fuller is ready to claim his title shot. I like the touch of Resnick having to brace hi,self just to interview Iaukea & Colon. If i were Singh or Gange i certainly wouldn't want to get in Blackwell's way. Rich renaming the tournament & WrestleRock after himself is classic!

From the Myrtle Beach Convention Center.... Airing Live on WTBS channel 17, The National Wrestling Alliance proudly presents the... (Sweeping shot of the SOLD OUT arena before cutting to Gordon Solie at ringside in a nicely tailored suit) GS: Welcome ladies and gentlemen to night 1 of the Jim Crockett Sr Memorial Cup Tag Team Tournament. I am your host for the evening Gordon Solie, Bob Caudle & Tony Schiavone are in Columbia preparing for night 2. We have an incredible night of tag team wrestling in store for you tonight. As well as the president of the NWA, Mr Jim Crockett Jr will be here with an announcement regarding the future of the company. But before all that, let's go to the ring where the lovely & talented Ms Anita Baker will start the evening with her rendition of "America the Beautiful" All matches have a 20 minute time limit. Match #1 PCW Golden State Tag Team Champions Badd Company (Pat Tanaka & Paul Diamond)(PCW) w/Gary Hart vs The New Breed (Chris Champion & Sean Royal)(WCPW) A very fast paced match with great teamwork on both sides. Ultimately the deciding factor is the presence of Gary Hart who trips Royal sending him stumbling into a cartwheel kick from Tanaka for the 1-2-3. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: Badd Company! Match #2 The Rock n Roll Express (Ricky Morton & Robert Gibson)(UWF) vs NWA United States Tag Team Champions Brutha's in Arms (Shaska Whatley & Tiger Conway Jr) w/Slick The Brutha's aggression & willingness to break the rules create quite the problems for RnR as does the antics of Slick who interjects whenever he sees his clients losing the advantage. However the seamless teamwork of the men from the Volunteer State proves to much & Conway finally falls to the world famous double dropkick. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals:The Rock n Roll Express! Match #3 The Freebirds (Michael Hayes & Buddy Roberts)(UWF) vs AWA National Tag Team Champions Larry Zybysko & Al PerezAn interesting heel vs heel match rather early in the tournament. It takes a few minutes for this one to get started as Zybysko keeps getting into arguments with the ringside fans giving Hayes plenty of time to strut about the ring. When it does get started it becomes a game of the two teams trying to out-cheat the other creating something of a comedy match. The end see Hayes & Perez exchanging pin attempts, Perez tries for a schoolboy with his feet on the ropes but gets caught. He goes to argue with the ref allowing Hayes to score a schoolboy with a handful of tights for the win. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: The Freebirds! Match #4 The Minnesota Wrecking Crew (Arn & Ole Anderson) w/JJ Dillon (NWA) vs The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood)(NWA) The only match of the night featuring two teams from the same company. A exciting contrast of style as the Youngblood's fast pace strike heavy offense collides with the Anderson's methodical, scientific approach. The result is a seesaw affair that ends abruptly when a distraction from Dillon allows Arn to plant Mark with a spinebuster to advance. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals:The Minnesota Wrecking Crew! (During the intermission, Jim Crockett Jr comes down to ringside where he joins Solie. He says that 1987 was always going to be a pivotal year for the NWA even before the debacle which caused it to proceed as a single promotion. Says while this wasn't where he thought the NWA would be this time last year he's immensely proud of how the year's started. Says that while he's eternally grateful for Ted Turner's patience while they sorted everything out, the truth of the matter is that the relationship between the two companies has gone as far as it can. And so he reveals that this will be the LAST TIME the NWA will be seen on WTBS! *collective gasp from crowd* Instead next week on Saturday April 16th the NWA will debut its new TWO HOUR show called "World Championship Wrestling" at 8pm on the USA Network! In conclusion he assures Solie he won't be left out because starting on the 17th, Worldwide will be airing Sunday morning at 11am on USA) Match #5 NWA World Six Man Tag Team Champions "Superstar" Bill Dundee & "Exotic" Adrain Street w/Ms Linda vs The Nasty Boys (Brian Knobbs & Jerry Sags)(WCPW) Another contrast of styles as the flamboyant duo of Dundee & Street face-off with the street fighters Knobbs & Sags. It becomes apparent that the experience & wrestling knowledge of the Six Man Champs is too much of a hurtle for the pair from 'Nastyville". To their credit, the Nasties go down fighting & the Commonwealth duo are covered with bruises by the stiff shots from the former WCPW tag champs. But go down they eventually do, namely when Sags gets trapped in a crossface chickenwing by Street & choses to pass out rather than tap. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: Bill Dundee & Adrian Street! Match #6 AWA World Tag Team Champions Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami vs The Samoan Headhunters (Samu & Fatu)(WWF) w/Mr Fuji The Samoan prowl ringside as the Japanese duo approach the ring, seemingly looking for a excuse to take a bit out of some poor soul in the front row. Fuji finally herds them into the ring in time to jump the opposition as they're removing their kimonos. What follows is by far the most physical match yet. The story of the match is the AWA champs weathering the animalistic assault of the Headhunters long enough to force the Samoans into something vaguely resembling a wrestling match. Eventually a battered Fujinami avoids a superkick from Samu & hits a Dragon suplex that barely keeps the savage down for 3. A curious scene after the match where the Samoans seemed ready to continue the fight but Fuji called them off before bowing his head to his countrymen. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: Jumbo Tsurata & Tatsumi Fujinami! Match #7 PCW Pacific Tag Team Champions The Midnight Express (Bobby Eaton & Stan Lane) w/Jim Cornette vs The Southern Boys (Tracy Smothers & Steve Armstrong)(NWA) (As David Crockett is about to announce the MXE, Cornette snatches the mic. "Would you South Carolina sweat-hogs like to do me a favor huh? I want you to keep all this slack jawed, cross-eyed heffers you call women in their seats while I introduce the sexiest, best looking Tag Team in professional wrestling, "Beautiful" Bobby & "Sweet" Stan, The Midnight Express!) After that performance, the South Carolina crowd was eager to see Cornette's boys pay for their manager's sins. What followed was a classic southern tag team match with the advantage swinging back-and-forth several times. The Southern Boys seemed to have it when a brawl broke out between all 4 men allowing Cornette to slip his tennis racket to Lane which he struck Armstrong with while the ref was trying to get Eaton & Smothers out of the ring. He turned around just in time to see Lane make the cover. Winners & advancing to the quarter finals: The Midnight Express! Main Event NWA World Tag Team Champions The Road Warriors (Hawk & Animal) w/"Precious" Paul Ellering vs UWF World Tag Team Champions The Miracle Violence Connection (Steve Williams & Terry Gordy) Look, you guys know what happens here. Four of the biggest, baddest men in the sport beat the absolute hell out of each other. The ring shakes as they pound each other with slams, suplexs & strikes that would destroy lesser men & the crowd loves every second of it. Right up until the the announcer calls the end of the time limit approaching. He counts down the final 10 seconds as the four men are all in the ring, still throwing bombs. The time limit expires. The match is a draw. Both teams are eliminated.

Red lays Royal to rest. Given their recent frustrations, I'm wondering how accidental that punch to the ref was. Hennig proves he can get nuts with a win over Sabu. Miller s a little too Mean for Adams. Eddie gets a helluva wrestling lesson from St Clair. Badd Company retain by the skin of their teeth. Bubba & Steel beating on each other sounds like a great way to close the night.
-
The RPM's steal one in the opener. Big Scot debuts with a win. An incredibly gutsy effort from Rotundo & Steiner can't overcome the sheer viciousness of the Nasties. Casey becomes just another victim of the mighty Kamala. You ask a good question, can anyone stop this monster? Budro & Idol nearly steal the tag titles but get caught with the evidence. Snuka refuses to back down in the face of Akbar's primal warriors. Garvin dodges defeat by a second. Idol brings in the Butcher to finish off Race but the legend is too resilient. Bad News gets clever to take down Spivey. But can he handle Hall entering the mix?

No harm done!

Previously recorded Airing on 4/1/87 With your host "The Dean of professional wrestling" Gordon Solie. Zodiac defeats Rocky King with a Russian legsweep. The Renegade Warriors (Chris & Mark Youngblood) defeat The Rock n Roll Phantoms (1&2) when Chris hits a sunsetflip from the top rope on Phantom #2. (We see a pre-recorded promo from Dusty Rhodes. He says he's honored to have been chosen, how much it will mean to become a 3 time NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Says the way Tully Blanchard won the belt at Starrcade was a disgrace. Says he can't believe Blanchard needed all his Horsemen buddies AND a "ref more crooked than a sidewinder" to beat one man. He promises to win the title on his own & restore the dignity that Blanchard has tried so hard to wipe away) Angel of Death defeats Max Tennyson with a clothesline from the second rope. "Shooting Star" Keiichi Yamada defeats Mitch Snow with the "Shooting Star Press" NWA World Television Title "The Natural" Mark Fleming(c) vs Tom "MegaMan" McGee ends in a draw as they wrestle to the end of TV time.

(Author's note: a trimmed down episode to get it out today.
