AEW TV - 2/8 - 2/10 - What if Tony Just Let ChatGPT Write All The Promos?
strobogo replied to Timbo Slice's topic in AEW
I don't know how anyone could defend or give a Jericho program the benefit of the doubt. His entire run has been very blatantly glomming onto a guy already getting a lot of buzz, then engaging in a never ending feud that stalls out the other guy's momentum. But he gets to then claim he "made them a star" while he goes on to do it to the next guy, who then needs 6-9 months to heat back up to where they were before the Jericho feud. Dude is the worst gatekeeper. He's also a guy that has needed to go away for months/years at a time pretty regularly for most of the past 15 years because of how stale he gets. He needs a long, long break from AEW TV. -

I appreciate Rush being the only guy (at least on US TV) of being on the juice but not being a body guy. That's a style of juicehead that seemed to vanish altogether after the steroid scandal in the early 90s. -
Bliss physically dominating Nia Jax at WM is an all timer

I don't think you can be a pro wrestler without having a passion for it. At any level. The models and body guys that get into it just for the money always fail out pretty quickly.

The Rumble angle was absolutely perfect. "Wah it was too long" fuck outta here, nerds.

What if the end game is KO turning on Sami AGAIN because he's just a piece of shit who can't help himself from ruining Sami's life -

It's really baffling that Darby hasn't suffered some catastrophic bone break or head trauma in a match -

Running two "face has to run the gauntlet to face the heel" angles at the same time for the same PPV is...uh. Thatcher has some awfully cartoonish facials pretty much constantly, to the point where it felt like he could be a long lost member of the Vaudevillans. Seems very at odds with his in ring style. Maybe he was playing it up for TV and a new audience but it was very distracting. -
Drew's rehab was mostly putting on 60 pounds of muscle and not shaving his chest

Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 4
strobogo replied to TravJ1979's topic in Pro Wrestling
The lighting is way brighter now. Pretty much everyone was black base with color designs in the Attitude Era as well, because that's the easiest and cleanest look for just about everyone. -
Man, the missing the forest for the trees shit in here. There's only one THE GUY at any given time, but the supporting cast are absolutely integral to such a THE GUY, and guys like Sami and KO are every bit as important as Foley and Taker were to Austin/Rock, Savage/DiBiase were to Hogan. Sami has essentially been the acknowledged main character of WWE TV for months now by everyone doing media.
-
The Saudi deal is gross, but lol. The reason Sami isn't main eventing Wrestlemania (as of right now, at least) is because it was a short term angle that caught on unexpectedly. You might have noticed he never main evented WM before the Saudi deal, either. Sami isn't going to be THE guy. He will point this out himself. He does not have "the look" a top guy in WWE in all eras has to have. However, that doesn't mean he can't be a top face, in the same way as Mick Foley and Daniel Bryan weren't THE guys but were absolutely integral to their eras, and have a great title win moment. Or just score a win over Roman without the titles involved at all.

Top tier worker in getting the company to allow him to do all his worst creative ideas, yes

I guess the nicest thing I can say about the Mountain Dew match was that by Wyatt gimmick match standards, it wasn't offensively bad. It was dumb and pointless, though. He also looked bad. Slow and out of shape, looked like he fucked up an ankle on the steps as well. This Captain Howdy shit is just...who is this for? With the Broken Hardy stuff, that was intentionally campy and played up the so bad its good aspect, but all of Wyatt's stuff is always taken so seriously and it's just so bad.

Because....did you watch the show? Have you seen any show Cody has been on since returning to WWE? Have you seen how WWE has promoted and treated him in his return? Did you see his merch selling out days in advance of the Rumble?
-
Thought the men's Rumble was the best Rumble match in ages. Zero issue with any part of it except I think it would have been lol to keep Miz in much longer and just have everyone beat his ass extra for no real reason. I thought Gunther worked a Rumble match smarter and more realistic than literally anyone I've ever seen, and I think it is fair to say he is the top full time active heel in the company now. The only guys on the pecking order above him right now are Roman and Brock. I don't know how anyone can argue that Cody didn't "earn" it or whatever, Gunther still beat the living shit out of him, and it made Gunther look like a king bad ass to go the entire distance and still beat the fuck out of 30 and nearly win anyway. It's time to retire the "WWE audience is going to turn on Cody like the AEW audience". They're not. That was a valid thought when he returned. It is not one anymore. The WWE audience loves Cody.

This is storyline literally could not possibly be handled better than it has. Absolute GOAT tier sports entertainmenting.

Honestly I thought Kenoh vs Kiyomiya was better than Okada vs White and was really digging the NOAH the reborn born again born reborn turbo production a lot more than NJ's. Muta show looks dope.
-
The Okada/Kiyomiya brawl sheeeeesh, if that match isn't stiffer than Okada/Shibata, water we dune

That was already going into effect a couple of years before Benoit Benoit'd. Things started slowing down around 2005, probably to coincide with Batista and Cena taking over.
