  1. A really good match where Taka looks completely overwhelmed for most of it but manages to make a big comeback, starting with a killer German suplex, to pull off a pretty shocking win. This was a longer and more competitive version of Taka vs. Fujiwara.
  2. Lynn really does come off as a geek here. From his glasses to his delivery to being shooed out of the locker room by Miss Congeniality.
  3. I was hoping that one of the fan club members was going to be a wrestler, and I wasn't disappointed. I also liked Dave Brown mentioning how tickets got stolen out of Randy Hales' briefcase at the New Daisy the other night, explaining how the fan club members got in to begin with.
  4. "HAIR! HAIR! HAIR! HAIR!" That made the segment but there's plenty of gold here, from the clown-car entrance to the out-of-control attack by Doug Gilbert.
  5. Had no idea Kevin Thorn was around this early. You had to know that something was up that wasn't going to end well for Wolfie as soon as he announced the match.
  6. The other thing about Race is that he, along with Savage, was Hogan's next house show challenger after Mania. There was going to have to be "life after Andre," so it makes further sense to put Race over.
  7. So, Dave Prazak just posted on a Facebook group that Mel Phillips has been dead since 2012. I pressed him to make sure that it was the same guy and that was his real name, and he was pretty adamant that WhitePages and other places confirmed the address and that it was the same guy.

  10. Lance gets in some pretty vicious low blows at Candido and Sytch, asking Tammy what it's like to be washed-up at age 26 and telling Candido to do what he's been doing, and "go take a powder." The ECW Security Brigade never ceases to be eye-rolling in its inconsistency. Yeah, New Jack can run to the ring with a shopping cart full of weapons but Candido and Storm can't be allowed to get into a fistfight.
  11. Well, everyone has explained why this storyline doesn't make much sense, but the action is okay at the finish as is the heat. Which makes this a Segment of the Week contender by October of '99 standards.
  12. For some reason Stephanie says that David Boy Smith is not to blame for what happened...WHAT?? Why on earth is Davey Boy around at this point? (Don't answer that--I know.)
  13. What Chad said. It's like Russo never left. Amidst myriad bad acting performances on this Yearbook, this guy playing the therapist possibly ranks as the worst.
  14. Oddly the climax of all this (as well as the follow-up with Show's mother) was one of my Dad's all-time favorite angles--as a retired police officer and fan of the heels, he was a huge Boss Man fan. Now having gone through a time earlier this summer where my Dad went from vaguely ill to dead from pancreatic cancer in the span of a few weeks this is...well, odd to look back on. I'm not going to pretend I'm suddenly offended now, nor will I ever defend this as good booking. This interview specifically is a particularly low point of this whole feud.
  15. It's a lame-duck show under a lame-duck booking committee, so Nash is out to entertain himself, logic and storytelling be damned. "A lot of changes going on in WCW!" Oh, Tenay's SHOOTING! A comical-looking Rey Misterio Jr. hawks his jersey while we see in-ring action of him in his Nailz outfit. TBS Voiceover Guy shows up to tell us how to order. Highlights of Torrie Wilson flirting with Kidman and blowing off David Flair. Curt "Harvey Weinstein" Hennig offers Torrie a CD deal in exchange for something or other. Kevin Nash narrates a video of the Goldberg-Sid feud, apparently doing a John Facenda NFL Films voice but sounds more British than Facenda's New England accent. "A MAN WHO CANNOT TOUCH THE OTHER MAN! ... I LAUGH AT YOU! ... How'm I doin' so far, Mike?" Nash shows how far-reaching of a visionary he really was as he praises Goldberg's ability to milk the hard camera. Larry: "Would you pass me Kevin's water?" Tenay: "It certainly isn't water..." This definitely falls under the purview of entertaining crap. Nash hypes a revamp of the Saturday Night program, whatever that was supposed to be about. Nash actually stops to put Meng over a bit as he squashes Luther Biggs. Okay, an infamous moment in Thunder history. Some funny bits but as usual, but Nash is like the Stanford Marching Band--they're both about a quarter as clever as they obviously think they are.
  16. Mark turns on the natural charm again.
  17. Stephanie has to write every single thing she does down...holy shit, was Christopher Nolan tuned into Raw tonight? This is setting up...what, Shane vs. Bulldog?
  18. It seems like the Outsiders are spinning their wheels until Russo puts a plan together (HA!) for what to do with them. The sense of danger and wonderment of what will happen next when they did this in 1996 is totally gone this go-round. Bobby comes off more than a little desperate here.
  19. Tony and Bobby both seem pretty broken-up.
  20. Monsoon is shown in his old Manchurian get-up.
  21. I'd add Fujinami vs. Tony Rocco as well--they have matches in '79 and '80 as I recall.
