  1. Exactly... There is a reason people get choked up during movies or pissed off at match results.
  2. Loss, it is one of the most common spots in a wrestling match. Irish whip to the ropes... Ricky Morton drops, Stan Lane leaps over and bounces off the rope, Ricky Morton leapfrog, when Lane bounces off the rope, Morton catches him with an arm drag or head scissors.
  3. Give us your background in the Introduce Yourself thread. Welcome aboard.
  4. I know of people who got into wrestling in their early 20s during the Attitude Era / Monday Night Wars. I know of people my age who watched wrestling in the 1980s but skipped out on the early 1990s only to come back for the Monday Night Wars. I would be interested in the answer to this question as well.
  5. I convert kids into loving the Beatles every year. You can't do the same with wrestling. Most teenagers already have decided if they will be wrestling fans by that point. They haven't already decided what music will appeal to them for the rest of their lives.
  6. I taught U.S. History for ten years. There are a couple of reasons it isn't going to be retained by the student. 1. The students don't give a shit. Unless you can make the topic directly relate to them and their personal experience, it won't register as important. You can create lessons that make a connection the kid but that takes time. You don't always have the appropriate time to teach a subject with the depth and rigor it requires for them to retain the information long term. Instead, you compensate by creating lessons or projects that package a ton of information in an appealing package such as a booklet/pamphlet or a "foldable". 2. The transition of standardized testing acting as tools to improve weaknesses to now becoming high stake tests that determine a person's employment status. I have three kids to feed and a mortgage to pay. I would love to buck the system but you have to make value calls. If making students pass the test is the goal that matters most to your administrator then that is how you design your class. The cutoff point is generally the Vietnam War and Nixon's resignation. After Watergate, teachers go into cruise control / movie mode. The state assessment is over and you want the end of the year to be as painless as possible.
  7. Blazer, did you respond to my statement or are you just quoting my statement?

At this point, I don't think anyone is thinking Cesaro should be at the top of the pile. The huge difference between Cesaro and Daniel Bryan is that Bryan has a gimmick and level of fan support that demands he be given the chance to be THE guy. In 2010-2011, DB was stealing the show as the opener in PPVs and people were happy that he was given a chance to have matches that went longer than ten minutes. At this point, I think people are glad that Cesaro is being taken seriously enough by the brass to get a main event slot.

Would have been even better if he ended it with the lariat. It would have reinforced the idea that a match can end anytime with any move if delivered properly.

You don't want the crowds to boo Orton or Cena... put them in with someone they want to see.

I think they would be that stupid but lets hope not.

If Rowan's new catch-phrase is "Run", I am sold.... even if he is the least of the three wrestlers in the family.

  16. I am just talking size. Texas = 268581 square miles UK = 93000 square miles
  17. Man, I got Mania VII to talk about. I couldn't imagine reliving #4. You guys deserve to be commended.
  18. Eh, it's smaller than Texas.
  19. It's true... i can't speak at all on his Earthquake run but he was solid against Sting at Starrcade 94 and was super fun in All Japan in 1989.
  20. Agreed... if you put in Hogan, Hall, Nash and Waltman, I don't think anyone who wasn't actually in the NWO at some point would care.

OK just finished SD!. I fast forward through the Miz. It took a dip after the 4 way but picked right back up with Orton vs. Cesaro. Man, Cesaro just being in the discussion is awesome but they need to strap a rocket to THIS guy about 6 months ago. Anyway, anyone who wants to watch wrestling with a minimal amount of bullshit really has no excuse not to watch Smackdown as I have enjoyed the show for several weeks in a row now.

I am going to wait until the rest of the show for the rest of my comments but that Mark Henry 4-way was fun as fuck too. The way Henry destroyed dudes midway through was awesome. Rey Rey is still great. I didn't mind Kofi at all and Swagger is more interesting than he has been in years.

Just finished watching the Shield Six Man tag from SD! and just when I thought the Shield couldn't have any more great matches, they pull another one out of the hat.
  24. I know. I will be skimming the site and make my decision before Mania.
  25. That isn't what the spirit of this thread is about at all. Plenty of money losers (including the Lawler-Funk feud from 1981 and Flair-Steamboat from 1989) have been artistically awesome but financial shit.
