  3. One of our posters sent me this information and I thought it was good enough to post the message.
  4. I was watching some Memphis from 1984 and Eddie Gilbert and Tommy Rich were introduced as the Fabulous Ones. Now, I was always under the impression that Stan Lane and Steve Keirn were the original Fabulous Ones. Guess not. So, were there any other incarnations of this team? Also, when we were participating in the tag team tournament, I refused to vote when it came to Fabulous Ones matchups. What matches should I look for? What famous feuds were they part of?
  5. I am more interetse din the cage match. Fuck the naysayers. I have enjoyed the hell out of the Eddie-Rey feud. While harldy any of the matches have matched Halloween Havoc 97 greatness ( and really, how could they?) I would take 100 Rey-Eddie matches over 9/10 of any other matchup anyday of the week. Hell, the feud is barely 8 months old, but in this day and age, that is too long. WTF?
  6. I had no idea what was going on at the time. I just saw Benoit was dropped in :23. Isn't this the exact time it took Benoit to beat Orlando Jordan at Summerslam?
  7. Clash of the Champions XXXIII August 15, 1996 in Denver, CO The Giant pinned Chris Benoit (0:23).
  8. I watched last night's episode and was it just my TV or did the last round of the fight have a bad feed? It seemed like the channel was shaking like a bad VHS tape. Was it the Spike feed or just this one channel at this one segment messing with me?
  9. Actually I am not. I'll type up exactly what he wrote. It's so anti-climactic that I was dissappointed myself.... That's it. I have already read that news all over the net adn jericho said as much in the letter that was taken down from his site. Kinda sucks really. No career overview... nothing.
  10. Odds and Ends: - A book about Stampede Wrestling will be released in the near future. It is called "Pain and Passion: The History of Stampede Wrestling" written by Heath McCoy - There was a Mid-Atlantic Convention in Charlotte last weekend. Some notes from the event... --- Terry Funk, JJ Dillon, Bret Hart and Jim Cornette did a Q&A session --- Funk was emphasizing how Dick Murdoch should be in the Hall of Fame --- Paul Jones bragged about how none of today's stars could do the 90 minute matches they used to do --- Ole Anderson yelled at David Flair for selling photos of the Four Horsemen without giving him a cut ( ). One person described it that Flair was largely ignored and maybe made off with $20 in sales. The feeling was Anderson had a reason to gripe but came off looking bad. Anderson also complained heavily for not being in the Hall of Fame. - Shane Douglas's Hardcore Homecoming will begin its first tour on Sep. 16 in Cleveland. - When Jim Corentte was asked about Russo's new Christian wrestling fed, he replied, "If there was a God, Vince Russo would have never been allowed in the wrestling business... It would take divine intervention for Russo to come up with a good idea." Bret Hart Speaks: ---At the Mid Atlantic Convention, when asked if he was going to rush out to Summerslam, Bret replied. "Not this year. Not next year. Not the year after that. Not 50 years after that." ---Bret said he did not agree to the storyline where they used his name which means that when they attempted to reach him, they failed. Bret's response to the angle," I think it's some kind of attempt to use my name or my situation to promote their angle. Neither Shawn Michales or Hulk Hogan are friends of mine and neither one is sympathetic to me, so it must be a case of two people who can't make it on their own, so they have to throw my name in there." Meltz said the balme for this one should go on Vince. ---The DVD will be the extent of his business relationship with the WWE. " I have compromised some of my feelings toward the WWF. I think we have come far enough. I think that they accept they were a bunch of lousy bastards about it, and I accept that they were." ---When asked about HHH... "He is just a phony, lying piece of shit." ---Hart said he would be open to working for TNA. TNA has been trying hard to get Hart before their debut on national TV. ---Hart admitted he was no stranger to steroids when he got his push for the title in 1992. --- On Ric Flair, "Ric Flair had the same match with Big Bubba as he had with Chris Benoit"... "Ric Flair couldn't do anything but a Ric Flair match"... "I've found out since I've been here everybody hates Flair more than I did." Meltz mentions Hart must have been talking to Ole. --- He said he was considering accepting a Hall of Fame invitation. --- Bret is reportedly very happy with the way the DVD is turning out which should be finished by now.

  12. Read the last post EDIT: N/M
  13. Then disregard my first post.
  14. This is the match listing from Highspots which is where I got my information... http://www.highspots.com/www/stores_app/Br...3&Item_ID=12894
  15. Summerslam Notes: -Backstage negotiations with Hogan and Michaels... --- Michaels did not want to do the job and requested to lose via DQ and he was the one who asked for the program. --- Hogan said there was only one ending for the match, since he ash creative control, and that was the legdrop. --- Michaels wanted the screwjob finish at Summerslam and would return the favor with Hogan winning a cage match at the next PPV. Hogan wanted to win this match clean and then have the cage match and win by photo finish where he goes through the door and Michaels goes over the cage with Hogan hitting the floor first. ---Michaels then refused ot do the cage match because he was jot going to lose clean to Hogan twice. --- Michaels could not abck out of the finish and was told by McMahon there was no negotiating the first match finish. --- Hogan did not want to do a practice match because of his physical condition and did not want to take any unnecessary punishment. --- Michaels not getting what he wanted was the reason he was unprofessional the next night on RAW. McMahon had cleared the promo before Michaels did it. --- Because Michaels refused to do the 2nd job, Hogan went home. Since Hogan was not there and they had nothing to do, they put him in the program with Masters. Star Ratings: Chris Benoit vs. Orlando Jordan 1/4* Edge vs. Matt Hardy ** Eddie Guerrero vs. Rey Mysterio ***1/2 Kurt Angle vs. Eugene ** Randy Orton vs. Undertaker **3/4 John Cena vs. Chris Jericho ***3/4 Batista vs. JBL ** Hulk Hogan vs. Shawn Michaels ***1/2
  16. It should also be mentioned that i saw some match listings claiming the One Night Only match against Bret was on there but it isn't. The Summerslam 97 match is on there, however.
  17. Damn, it also had a list of his favorite matches and favorite opponents. I wish I would have saved that on a word document.
  18. I just loved the feel of the SD! in Japan in general. The pop Funaki received was tremendous. To be honest, I would enjoy it more if they did more Japanese tour stops and the way domestic business has been down, that soesn't seem that unlikely.
  19. The Fantastics Shoot Interview- There are some great stories in this one as well. THey go particularly in-depth about the Von Ericha and their problems. However, there are two things you will notice about Bobby Fulton... 1. he has a forehead now the size of a bowling ball and 2. he never shuts up. Unless Rogers is just quiet by nature, I don't know how he could have put up with him. Bobby Heenan and Jim Cornette Straight Shootin Series- Just pick this series up already. All thre ear ewell worth your time. THe 3rd one is unique in that it is filmed at Jim Cornette;s house and they take a tour of his memorabilia room and talk about different items in the room and conversation usually breaks ff into different tangents. The last portion is a Secrets of the Ring portion with Bobby Heenan. Good stuff. Butch Reed Shoot Interview- I'll let you know when I decipher the mumbling throughout. Seriously, if you have the volume on low you would have no idea what he is saying.

  22. Sek reinforced the point. Liek musicians, wrestlers never really retire. If you look back at one of the old WO News and Notes threads I created, I gave a list of matches taking place at some wrestle reunion show. half of those guys on the card could be considered HOF material and the Funks were on the card. There is no way anyone can tell me that the Funks (Terry and Dory), even if they still do indy dates, should not CURRENTLY be in a Hall of Fame. Same thing with the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame. Eric Clapton is releasing a new album this year. Do we have to wait until he is no longer playing music to recognize him? Of course not. As long as you recognize wrestling as a performing art, instead of an athletic sport, requirements like retirements aren't needed.
  23. Another interesting tidbit from the Sandman-Raven shoot. Sandman admits that at Halloween Havoc 1989, if you look at the video, you will see him in the 5th row dressed up like Sting.
  24. I recently acquired a huge chunk of shoot interviews so instead of doing reviews, I'll post random thoughts on them. feel free to join in. Raven and Sandman - This is fucking hilarious. Seriously, there are no shortages of funny stories with this one. The one that stands out is when they are talking about the Sign Guy in the audience. Raven said that one day when Sign Guy was at the gym looking for wrestlers, Stevie Richards, who was a heel at the time, happened to be there. Stevie recognized him and went up to say hi but Sign Guy, thinking he was a face refused to shake Stevie's hand and simply said "Kayfabe." After Raven heard that shit, he created Sign Guy Dudley just to fuck with him and had Sign Guy Dudley make signs just to one-up the "Original" Sign Guy.
  25. Interesting take. However, I am going to have to disagree with you about a separate Tag Team Hall of Fame. I think the problem is trying to separate wrestling into separate factions when ultimately... it is all wrestling. Tag teams have drawn in the past as teams (whether they had successful singles careers or not). There is also a certain art to being a tag team wrestler that should be recognized esp. if you are going to place someone like Chris Benoit in there for his wrestling ability alone (certainly not his drawing power) or Mick Foley for his successful book, even though he was a fairly limited wrestler who had a fair amount of success. Instead of looking at the Hall of Fame as an institution similar to a sports Hall of Fame where numbers, win-loss records and championships are the only thing to really evaluate someone's worth, I like to compare the wrestling Hall of Fame to something like the music Hall of Fame where there is more fluidity and there are different factors involved. Should we break the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame into separate factions... a soul Hall, a punk hall, an avante garde hall. If that is the case, lets break wrestling into a hardcore hall of fame or lets create the puro hall and the joshi hall. Women should have their own hall of fame. It just doesn't work that way. In the case of music, many successful artists have dabbled in all kinds of music throughout their careers. Look at David Bowie as just one example. In wrestling, look at someone like Terry Funk who has been a brawler, a comedian, a mat technician, a hardcore junky, a great tag team partner, etc. Like musicians, wrestlers wear many different faces. Sometimes, you can be inducted twice. The members of the Beatles were inducted as Beatles and three of them were represented as solo acts. Why should wrestling be different? Especially if you take the position that they are both performance industries, which I do. Another point I want to address is your take that they should be retired before even considered. Once again, if you look at this as performance art then I don't see why they have to be retired esp. when some guys are capable of at least entertaining fans well into their 50s. Same thing with musicians. Just because you are still performing does not mean you should be denied the proper respect or accolades just because you haven't stopped performing. In sports, I can see the reasoning but not in an entertainment industry where the goal is the performance, not the win-loss record which is just worked anyway.
