Some quickie comments, as I'm a bit more halfway through the WCW Timeline with Russo: It's really nothing new as far as Russo goes. He comes across much more genuine and humble, but it's the same Russo, blaming everyone else for failures. He constantly harps on the notion that he's not doing another wrestling interview. The highlights, thus far, are his burying of the younger generation of wrestlers, namely Generation Me (IIRC they were the Young Bucks), on how Russo would tell them to slow down and work more on their character, and they were more concerned with getting a four star rating for their match in the WON. He also knocks Christopher Daniels for that same mentality, which is hilarious since Daniels and Kazarian were one of a very few entertaining acts in TNA.

[1992-06-06-WCW-Saturday Night] Barry Windham vs Arn Anderson
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
A very good match from two good workers. It's not exactly state of the art for the time period, but they pull it off very well. Terrible finish though.- 19 replies

I've noticed lately, that a decent amount of posts on the board have contained links for groupon, with random words in the post being linked. I took a screen cap and posted it below. You'll see that the word "YEARBOOK" is underlined in the forum description for the 1990 section. Is anyone else getting these, or just me?

[1992-06-06-WCW-Saturday Night] Madusa and Missy Hyatt

Madusa looks seriously do-able here. Great segment that would look right at home in the WWF in 1999.- 12 replies

[1992-06-06-SMW-TV] Tim Horner and Buddy Landell / Interview: Tim Horner
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
Landell is gold here. Talking all kinds of trash and then when Horner comes up to him, he's all "Hey buddy." Nice touch with the audio going out.- 11 replies

[1992-06-06-SMW-TV] Interview: Jim Cornette & Heavenly Bodies

Loss wasn't kidding about that toupee! Cornette cuts a promo about Jackie Fulton needing to go on welfare.- 11 replies

[1992-06-06-SMW-TV] Interview: Ron Wright & Dirty White Boy
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
Ron Wright is hilarious, and DWB is great too. Kev put it best, that it's really too bad they didn't have a better babyface to work with. -
Hall claims that Vince hadn't ever see Scarface and that a lot of this stuff were his own ideas. It's an interesting vignette, makes him seem like a big deal. Much more than however many weeks of these silly Crush vignettes have accomplished.

[1992-06-06-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Papa Shango
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
Gene gives a nice recap of Shango's cursing, and then Shango gives a goofy but intense promo. Gene overplays his hand, and Shango curses him too. -
Wow, this was 50 different types of awesome. I really loved how Misawa and Jumbo, who were magnificent as always, left things to Taue and Kobashi. It reminded me a lot of the 12/93 classic, with Misawa stepping aside to allow Kobashi to get the glory. The near falls toward the end were awesome, especially after Misawa had to save Kobashi four or five times, but when Jumbo had him tied up, Kobashi still managed to kick out of the powerbomb.

[1992-06-05-AJPW-Super Power Series] Stan Hansen vs Toshiaki Kawada
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
This was good, but not near the level you'd expect given the people involved. There were smart touches from both, like the way Hansen blocked the enzuigiri, and Kawada switching things up and using a lariat to drop Hansen when the kicks weren't getting the job done, and Kawada takes a monster bump off Hansen's lariat.- 16 replies

I haven't watched this yet, but when I saw this, I had to jump in: Honestly, John, I gotta disagree with what you said here. I would find it more likely that Misawa drops the fall to Taue. It sets up Taue's challenge for the TC on 7/31. Meanwhile, Misawa unseats Stan in August, and Taue is right there as the logical first challenger. Instead of Taue in Feb '93, slot in Doc or Gordy based on the tag titles win over Misawa/Kawada.

[1992-06-02-WWF-Ottawa, ONT] Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
I liked this OK, but it doesn't really hold up well in a yearbook setting alongside so many other great workers and matches.- 11 replies

I don't understand the reasoning of putting Kanemoto under the mask. He wasn't anywhere near as athletic as Sayama, or as overall good as Misawa was when he got the mask. So, he's basically doomed to fail. Putting him in with three longtime vets is a good learning experience, but he doesn't have a prayer of measuring up.

[1992-05-30-WCW-Saturday Night] Great Muta vs Brad Armstrong (2/3 falls)

Brad said in his ROH Shoot, that he always preferred to call things in the ring, so I'd be surprised if it wasn't.- 16 replies

The only one that strikes me (admittedly, far from an authority on Lucha workers) odd are Texano and Silver King being rated as strong hands. Some of the best Lucha tags and trios that I've seen have had Los Cowboys involved.

[1992-05-30-WCW-Saturday Night] Great Muta vs Brad Armstrong (2/3 falls)
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in May 1992
I watched this the first time on Will's Brad Armstrong comp way back when, and watching it again here didn't help matters at all. I am curious about the whole "five minutes notice" myth though, because it *IS* WCW, where such disorganization isn't exactly uncommon. According to Graham's site, the match was taped on the same night as the prior week's 2/3 Falls six man on May 11th. So, I guess it's possible that someone forgot to post the lineup, or left it off the lineup until it was coming up and the agents and such were scrambling wondering where Brad and Muta were at, which would also explain no entrance music if the guys in the truck weren't expecting it. Of course, how exactly does this get to be even a little bit known, unless it's something that Dave would have reported?- 16 replies

[1992-05-09-WCW-Saturday Night] Steve Austin vs Barry Windham (2/3 falls)

I assume it was another way to separate them from the WWF. They were all about cartoony gimmicks, but WCW was all about the wrestling.- 15 replies

[1992-05-30-WCW-Saturday Night] Interview: Arn Anderson

Rikki Rachtman is a Double-A fan, clearly. Really strong promo from Arn here, it's almost UFC like in how he focuses on logic instead of being over the top.- 11 replies

[1992-05-30-WCW-Worldwide] Rick Rude vs Dustin Rhodes
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in May 1992
I liked the Pillman match more, but this was a damn fine match. Everyone points out Hall and Nash when talking about WCW taking established WWF names and pushing them as top guys, but I think it really started with Rude. He debuted in late October '91 and by February he was the hottest heel in the company.- 10 replies

Dutch is awesome, "What would Tim Horner do with $5,000 anyway, buy a gun rack?" Landell is awesome for using I'm Too Sexy. Horner isn't awesome at all.

Smoky Mountain seemed to be the only gig that Buddy didn't screw up in short order. Was Cornette just overly lenient, or did Buddy finally straighten himself out? Great stuff from Buddy, and I love Bob saying that instant replay has never worked in any sport. Seeing as it's used in pretty much every other sport, and is randomly enforced in this sport.

Gotta love "interpromotional" politics (since Global obviously wasn't participating with this). Eddie went from Lawler, to Jarrett, to King Cobra. At this rate, he'll be jerking the curtain and defending the Global Title against one one of the Moondogs victims. Great promo from Eddie, but what's with him getting buried?
