  1. Awesome angry promo from Embry, going through the names the Moondogs have beaten up and run out of Memphis. Richard Lee is so obnoxious that he's great.
  2. This was a fun match. Sarge took a couple of nice bumps, considering his age. This was supposed to be a "a new and improved" shock stick, but I don't think it was seen again after this. The blown slingshot spot actually worked for me, only because of the size difference, so it made sense that a smaller guy like Flair couldn't get him over for it.
  3. I think I've said it before, but I'll repeat it here. Papa Shango is the biggest rip of of Baron Samedi from Live and Let Die. It makes me think that Vince caught the film on TV one night and decided to use the gimmick.
  4. Savage compares himself to the Bruins and Celtics, which is interesting since he's not from Boston. Good promo though, especially him wanting Flair, Heenan, and Perfect out of the WWF, and 2/3 would be within two years.
  5. This is such a smart match, from a wrestling perspective. Albright and Takada are both smart enough to know what they need to do to win. Gary needs keep with what had been working for him, namely his suplexes, and not get into a striking match. Takada needs to get Gary on the ground and take out his arms (just look at the size of Gary's legs). They way they put it together is excellent. Takada seems to finally be presented with a real challenge to his throne, and Gary had mowed down everyone in his path, but he's not in for a walk in the park.
  6. There's not much to say about this, it's a couple of all time greats, having a 1970's style exhibition in a shootstyle promotion. It looked like things would get serious after Nick's knee strike. They were both still in great shape, and could still go.
  7. More info from Tabe, per his history of UWFI on Kevin Wilson's 'Puroresu Central' website. From UWFI Trainer Pat McCarthy: "The Berbick fight? No rules were ever changed -- that guy just never wanted to listen", McCarthy says. "The rules were always going to be UWFI rules --- it was one of our typical mixed bouts."
  8. I dug this a ton. It's really clear here that Misawa is the heir apparent, and that he's got it in him to beat Hansen. I really liked the arm work from Misawa. All Japan never really pushed submission finishes in big matches, so it was cool to see him trying to beat Hansen with a Fujiwara armbar. Stan's selling here was phenomenal, there's no way that Brody would have put Misawa over this way.
  9. This is a nice contrast of WCW to the WWF, WWF would have never let a match like this see the light of day. It's a nice match, but goes a bit too long. "The Color Commentator of the '90's" is un-fucking-bearable.
  10. I saw the Rhaka Kahn comments. When I saw the post about her going "Biblical" I thought she really went off on her, I didn't think it was literal.
  11. Thought the same. However it hasn't earned her friends. Rhaka Khan replied and went biblical while Reby Sky essentially called her a hard up drug addict. Links? Quotes?
  12. Jerry Lawler is one of the best.
  13. So, I got my hands on that MSG show. I'm assuming that either Brody hadn't become Brody yet (aka the giant asshole prick) or he was just smart enough to know better than to miss off Vince and/or Andre. Brody and Andre only have a few brief exchanges, but Brody does a respectable job of putting him over, even later in the match when he winds up in the babyface corner and Andre pelts him with the forearm shot. Like Victory mentioned, their most notable spot is the bearhug, which Brody is really animated about selling. It's not just Andre either, when Strongbow starts doing his war dance, Brody backs up and is leery of getting close.
  14. You forgot about Dixie Carter going in, after she thought about it for a bit.
  15. Does Xcite run anywhere other than the American Legion? I can't imagine 350 in that tiny building. I've been there for packed 2CW shows, and it's nigh impossible to move, especially with the bar being right there at ringside. I still think 2CW is nuts for putting their next iPPV in that arena, with the rowdy drunk crowd and the tiny arena.
  16. The Kong/Kharma Youshoot is a fun waste of ninety minutes. It's clear that she's enjoying herself, which makes it fun to watch. But, she's pretty clearly trying to be diplomatic, so as to get her WWE gig back (although it's not nearly as bad as Chyna ducking almost every question). She dishes some good dirt on TNA and Dixie Carter, including saying that TNA is the only fed that's ever stiffed her on a payday.
  17. John, what kind of seats did you and Dave have for the G1 shows? Would you be visible in the crowd on any of the taped cards?
  18. No surprise there, seeing as it's Dragon Gate In all seriousness though, I went with a busload of guys to Philly for the NJPW shows a couple years back and the bus trip was epic.
  19. There are few things as funny as when little kids quote wrestling stuff or say catchphrases. My little one started doing Bryan's Yes Yes Yes and the wife and I died laughing.
  20. I haven't been one in almost a year, 2CW on 8/4 with an appearance by DDP, and Kevin Steen vs. Eddie Edwards, and Tomoasso Ciamba vs. Sami Callihan.
  21. Something that came across my mind during the 'Death of the territory' thread. Discounting those who owned the promotion, what wrestlers were synonymous with various territories? I don't think anyone worked for one territory and nobody else, even Lawler made the rounds, but I'm just wondering what wrestlers were more or less married to one place, to the point of when thinking of that promotion their name always springs to mind. The ones I've thought off offhand. Memphis: Bill Dundee, Phil Hickerson, and Eddie Gilbert. Mid South: Dr. Death
  22. And while he was in that tag team role, he was consistently getting some of the loudest cheers, and was tearing things up on a weekly basis with the Shield, Orton, and Cesaro amongst others.
  23. It's a 3/5 Falls six man (Andre/Strongbow/Whitewolf vs. Brody and the Executioners) that only goes 20 minutes. So I can't imagine the full match doesn't exist. Both Tabe and DJ Mike Nice say that they have it.
  24. Congrats, Loss! I've got two little girls, age 3 and 18 months. I work third shift, so I'm with the kids during the day, while the wife is at work. I usually watch in the mornings when I come home from work, and during the day while the kids are playing, or with their aunts, or something. My older one is starting get into wrestling. I never laughed so hard as when Rock came back in January and she jumped up yelling "That's the Rock!" and followed up with telling me "The Rock's walking!" as Rock was making his way to the ring. I'm lucky though, that they're so close in age. My older one will watch cartoons or something on my wife's Nook, and the little one will snuggle right up with her, and let me watch a couple of Brody matches for the Brody microscope thread.
  25. The best thing here is the scrum at the end with Robely and Terry both getting involved, and Terry's hideous jacket.
