JDW has told the story before that Dave once laughed at Terry, when he said that Masato Tanaka was just as good as the guys in All Japan.

Hiroshi Tanahashi vs. Hirooki Goto from November '07 was quite awesome, it fooled people into thinking that Goto was the next great heavyweight. I haven't seen a Goto match that even sniffs it since.

I pretty much hate him too.

[1992-06-27-SMW-TV] Interview: Buddy Landell & Dirty White Boy

[1992-06-27-SMW-TV] Down and Dirty: Jim Cornette & Heavenly Bodies
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
Cornette and his boys bring the goods on the mic. After so many goofy and funny promos from Jim and the Bodies, this is a refreshing change. -
Fans in that area have been known to have long memories, so Garvin is the perfect choice to even the sides. "I used the piledriver before you even thought about wrestling!"

[1992-06-27-WWF-Superstars] Legion of Doom and Rocco

The WWF finally turns the LOD into cartoon characters. -
Tatanka, in gear, visits a reservation and gives a lecture to the kids. Goofy stuff, but it fits the time period.

There were little touches that I liked from Toyota and Yamada, that showed why they were the superior team, but, as a whole, this just didn't do much for me. The blown spots from Toyota dragged this down a lot for me, as did the first fall finish. The backdrops in the second falls bothered me too, because you'd think after so many of them Yamada would have tried for a pin, and not gone to the top for the kick.

This was good, as expected with the four of them, but it just didn't click at the level I'd have expected them to. The finish with the ref bump is stupid, it seems more suitable for WCW than New Japan.

[1992-06-26-NJPW-Masters of Wrestling] Hiroshi Hase vs Kensuke Sasaki
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
I've always been something of a notorious Sasaki hater, but even I enjoyed this. Hase wants to show that he's still big brother to the returning Sasaki and can still kick his ass on a regular basis. Sasaki wants to prove that he's "grown up" in a sense and isn't afraid to bend rules, like choking him with the sleeper, in order to do it. Hase responds by upping the brutality and destroying Sasaki with Uranages and finally pinning him with the NLS.- 13 replies

A Brody to Brodie comparison could be fun.

[1992-06-26-NJPW-Masters of Wrestling] Jushin Liger vs El Samurai
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
This wasn't at the level of their Super Junior final, but this was still pretty damn awesome. I love me some good limb work, and Lyger working over Sammy's arm was awesome, and Sammy brought some damned good selling, even when he was in control of things. The finish comes off like a fluke, but it still works.- 10 replies

[1992-06-25-PWFG-Turn Over] Yoshiaki Fujiwara vs Bart Vale
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
I sometimes have trouble getting into these sorts of matches, but not this time. The reversals and counters kept this exciting, and I didn't see the finish coming at all. After Vale won in FL, I expected Fuj to get the win back here.- 11 replies

[1992-06-21-AJW-Grand Prix] Manami Toyota vs Toshiyo Yamada
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
Whenever regular tag partners work each other, they seem to kick things up a few notches. These two cut a great pace, and didn't seem to give any concession to their partnership at all, even though working each other in this manner could jeopardize their title reign. I like Pete's Kawada comparison to Yamada, especially when it comes to her strikes. She's the perfect counterpart to Toyota and her love for suplexes and big spots. There was one thing that struck me odd, and I actually rewound to make sure I didn't miss something. Toyota pulls Yamada close to the ropes before a vertical suplex attempt, which Yamada winds up escaping and landing on the apron.- 16 replies

I thought this was tons of fun, with the way Bull and Hokuto teed off on Takako. They pretty much just outclassed the Inoues.

[1992-06-21-AJW-Grand Prix] Aja Kong vs Bison Kimura
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
This really didn't do anything for me, which surprised me because I usually like Aja's matches. It had the brutality I'd expect from Aja, but seemed to meander at times.- 15 replies

I'm glad this got cut down to the last few minutes. It's not a bad match, although the booking sucks, but their Clash match is much better. There's really no good reason for the draw. Doc and Gordy were winning at the Clash being shown two days later, so it wouldn't hurt them to have lost to the Steiners here, especially with them taking the WCW straps from them a few weeks later anyway.

This was excellent, and considering who was involved, that's not a surprise. But, I had a few problems with things. The big one was Steamer getting pinned early by the Rude Awakening, and then another later on not getting the job done, which seemed like it should have been done the other way. Another one was Steamboat kicking out the piledriver, despite Rude working the neck, but then Rude gets pinned with the Tombstone. But, things like that are the exception, not the rule.

[1992-06-20-WCW-Beach Blast] Sting vs Cactus Jack (Falls Count Anywhere)
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1992
I've always found this to be overrated. I liked it better than I recalled, but I still don't think it's anything special. It's more or less a big bump exhibition, and while, yes, Sting takes some good ones himself, Mick is clearly doing the heavy lifting.- 19 replies
