[1992-01-18-WWF-Superstars] Interview: Hulk Hogan
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Nice recap of some of Hogan's major programs, with video footage to boot. Like I said about the "Update" with the Mountie title win, this is the sort of stuff you don't see on RAW anymore that I wish we could. Aside from perhaps a quick video clip from the week before or the previous night's PPV. Typical Hogan promo.- 11 replies

I miss these sorts of segments. It seems like everything that gets shown on RAW has to have happened right then and there. Decent promo from Rougeau.
-
This is awesome, although I was left wondering what happened to Robert Fuller. Just a wild and bloody brawl, with Lawler swinging the broom like he was swinging for a home run.

Flynn throws a bunch of kicks, and I like the fact that the enzuigiri is treated like a somewhat lethal strike, the way Sano went down from it and seemed to be dazed. Cool finish with Sano scouting the enzuigiri and getting a crab hold for the submission. It was rather fun to watch, but reminds me why I'm not a huge fan of shootstyle.

[1996-06-22-ECW-Hardcore Heaven] Raven vs Terry Gordy
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in June 1996
This has always been my pick as the best ECW match of all time. Raven had been pissing off the fans at every turn, holding the title by the skin of his teeth, all the issues with Dreamer and Sandman. And this is Raven's comeuppance. Raven had taken beatings before, but nothing of this magnitude.- 10 replies

[1992-01-12-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Barber Shop: The Rockers
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
I remember this like it was yesterday. Shawn is such an arrogant jerk the whole time, and Heenan is in his glory "He tried to jump through the window!" And the Shawn Michaels we know and love (and sometimes love to hate) has arrived. -
I cracked up at the spot where Simmons tried the double lariat and Rude ducked, but Larry didn't, and Rude started posing. I've got to wonder how much, if any, say Heyman had in who joined the alliance, because the only one who hadn't really come into his own at the time was Austin. The finish was cool, I'm surprised that nobody has stolen that one.

[1992-01-11-USWA-TV] Jeff Jarrett & Robert Fuller vs The Moondogs
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Jarrett's promo wasn't bad or anything (except for him saying the match was no DQ, and then proceeding to explain how using tables, bones and chairs were OK, just in case nobody knows what a no DQ match means), but he's just vanilla. Fuller was outstanding, and those chairs were pretty bad ass. -
[1992-01-11-WWF-Superstars] Funeral Parlor: Ric Flair & Mr Perfect
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
I can only assume Flair was in gear to do something to distinguish him from the Ric Flair that everyone would have seen on TBS. I love Flair promos like this, where he's so "in the zone" that you almost think he's a minute away from fainting because he's so worked up. -
This could have been a real treat. Lawler's bumping and penchant for exaggerated selling and facials seem like a natural match for Bob's deceptive strength spots and his unmatched ability on the mat. But not on this night. Maybe if this happened in 1982 instead of 1992. The fact that both of them would be in the WWF by the end of the year is more interesting than the match itself.

[1992-01-10-GWF] Eddie Gilbert and Barry Horowitz
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Gilbert calling the stable the First Family threw me off a bit, I thought he was referring to Jimmy Hart's old stable in Memphis. I always thought Gilbert's group was called Hot Stuff International. Anyhoo, this was fun for what it was. Barry's reaction to the invite was funny, and I was half expecting Eddie to cheap shot him and bring out someone else.- 9 replies

As much fun as it was watching Fuchi and Jumbo work the knee, and Kobashi's selling. I preferred the Misawa/Jumbo and the Kawada/Jumbo exchanges just for the intensity involved. Most people only remember the Misawa/Jumbo feud for obvious reasons, but the Jumbo/Kawada exchanges serve as a good reminder that Kawada was just as eager to knock Jumbo off of his pedestal as his partner was.

[1992-01-05-UWA] El Hijo del Santo vs Negro Casas
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
I like Tim's UWF/PWFG comparison for this match. I've only seen one other singles between these two (the 1997 classic) and I think this is worthy of standing alongside it. The lack of sound made it hard to follow, at times, but the mat work was great, especially the way Santo basically tried to tie up Casas in knots.- 33 replies

[1992-01-04-WCW-Saturday Night] Arn Anderson vs Dustin Rhodes
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
LOL at the fans chanting "break his leg" while Arn was in the figure four. This was tons of fun, especially the finish with all the extra curricular activity. And, you just know that if this same match, move for move, with the same sort of booking happened on an episode of RAW, it'd be lauded to the moon, while a few others would bitch about the run ins and how it "ruined" the match.- 19 replies

[1992-01-04-USWA-TV] The Moondogs vs Jeff Jarrett & Robert Fuller

This is ECW before ECW! Chaos, blood, while brawling, manager hangings. How can you not love it?- 17 replies

This was a really fun way to delve into the yearbook, even if it wasn't exactly deep. Cool entrances, especially the tumblers on the ramp leading up to Muta's, and pretty much wall to wall action. Weird to see Sting and Muta being buddies after they had such a big feud a couple of years back.

Eh, this didn't do much for me, other then Fujinami's counter to Chosyu's backdrop. And coming after a fun Steiners tag match didn't really do any favors.

[1992-01-05-WWF-Wrestling Challenge] Interview: Randy Savage & Elizabeth
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in January 1992
Great promo from Savage. I cracked up at Perfect asking Vince if Elizabeth would leave Savage if he didn't win the Rumble. Of course, Savage didn't win and those pics of Liz and Flair started popping up . . . . . .- 15 replies

I'd suggest a couple of promos from Tommy Rich and the FBI. one from January at the House Party show, and the other from May at A Matter of Respect. The January one has the FBI bring out a bowling trophy and declare themselves the World Six Man Tag Team Champions after they beat the Von Erichs in Dallas last week, and then stopped in Atlanta and beat the Freebirds. They namedrop Bob Geigel and a few other NWA legends, and after the lose to Dreamer, Balls, and Axl, declare that Geigel said the match was non-title. The May one is them coming out ot New York, New York, and attacking Blue Meanie and Nova, and Meanie juices huge. Rich dedicates the beatinug to the recently deceased Frank Sinatra and says he's the new Chairman of the Board. I'd say this is a MUST NOT. This is Sabu and Van Dam at their spot-fu worst, and even Hayabusa falls into the trap. Tanaka/Awesome and Candido/Storm from the same PPV are both much better.

What made Brock/Cena so special was that it was unlike anything else on the show. The fact that Cena won is almost a footnote, the match was mostly Brock kicking Cena's ass in a way that hadn't been seen before. Brock/HHH was the complete opposite. Brock looked like just another wrestler, and HHH didn't bump or sell nearly as good as Cena did. The last Pedigree, before Brock sprang to life with the armbar and won, looked like Brock almost got spiked.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
It seemed to take them some time getting their footing, but TNA seems to headed in the right direction without Russo at the helm of things. The build to the Roode/Aries title change last month was very well done, and the match itself was very good. Joe seems to be motivated for the first time in a good long time. I can honestly say I'm looking forward to Hardcore Justice a lot more than I am Summerslam. -
Comments that don't warrant a thread - Part 3
MikeCampbell replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
Not the night after, but a couple of weeks. He came back the night of the draft and speared Bischoff when it was announced he was drafted to Raw. -
I'm pretty sure they were done before the incident took place. Davey hadn't been used in quite a while, and O'Reilly was clearly being looked at as second banana to his former partner, Adam Cole.
