  1. Ninja, please! I'll be more than a little surprised if the set DOESN'T have that sort of effect on at least a few people.
  2. Wait, so the whole "Punk chose ROH over TNA" bit that Punk and Gabe used to love talking about after Feinstein-Gate is BS?
  3. We've pretty thoroughly covered the U.S. over the last few days, but who was best in the world? Anyone who knows me won't be terribly surprised by my pick. It's Jumbo. With Hansen right behind him.
  4. I'd give the nod to Flair. But Lawler is only a step or two behind him.
  5. The Bushwackers/Sheepherders? They wouldn't have been available. They were working for Vince.
  6. Honestly, considering who was realistically available at the time and who the WCW audience would generally know and respond to, I'd leave most of the teams alone. Steiners: Most popular team in the company, no brainer here. Muta/Saito: Muta was over at the time and hardcore fans will have at least heard of Saito. No need to make any changes here. Adams/Smiley: Adams would be a familiar name to the longtime fans. No real reason to drop Smiley that I can think of. Morgan/Victory: They weren't over at any point. But what other New Zealanders were there available besides, maybe, Boyd? South Africans: Like Bix said, they were just a gimmick team so there's no reason to drop them. The changes I'd make: Canada: Owen Hart and Chris Benoit, both were in NJPW at the time, who WCW was working with, so it shouldn't be an issue. Mexico: Los Cowboys (based off of hindsight with their awesome performance at Clash XIX) Russia: I'd keep Zangiev because he's got that smarmy demeanor that gets easy heat and the shootstyle would be a nice change. But I'd replaced Salmon with Nikita Koloff, a familiar face. Or, if Nikita wouldn't do it or Victor was being pissy about teaming with a gimmick Russian, then I'd snag Wakha Eveleov based off his performance in the NJ Dome show the year before.
  7. I know he only made it about half of the decade, but how well do y'all think Eddie would do? The three years or so from his WWE return in 2002 until his passing in 2005 the man was ON. The SD6 period, the '04 PPV matches with Brock, Angle, and JBL. The feud with Rey, the Los Guerreros/Team Angle and Eddie/Tajiri vs. WGTT tags. The U.S. match with Benoit, the mini feud with Cena in the Summer of '03, complete with the awesome promo when SD was in El Paso.
  8. HUH? There were two Joe/Lethal vs. Homicide/Ki tags, and either was really anything all that special. The first one in May was just a backdrop for the Rottweilers to show off the Diving stomp/Cop Killa combo and put Lethal on the shelf for a few months. The second was in August and is a good match, but it's most remembered for the crazy ass brawl that took place afterwards which caused "ROH officials to put the feud on hold and not book any matches between Samoa Joe and the Rottweilers."
  9. He wasn't pinned, but he submitted to Luger three times in '97. 1. Three hour Nitro toward the end of June in a non title single match 2. Bash at the Beach '97 in a tag match. I wanna say Hogan and Rodman vs. Lex and Giant, but I don't remember Luger's partner for sure. 3. Nitro in August of '97 - Luger won the WCW Title.
  10. Not really the spirit of the question/discussion. Volk Han and Stan Hansen aren't Japanese, but if I were rating the Best Japanese workers from the 90's, I would include both in the discussion. The title is best U.S. worker of the '90s, not AMERICAN worker of the '90's. I see no reason why Bret or Benoit shouldn't be considered, they both worked extensively in the U.S.
  11. Seems like a random time to just close it up. Of course, Will has said he hates giant threads like that, so maybe it finally drove him over the edge.
  12. Holy crow, Bix. How did you even know that? Provided that the kennel from hell match was directly inspired by the Portland match, the only logical explanation I have is Cornette. He's always been a huge tape buff, and used to subscribe to all kinds of newsletters and wrestler fan clubs before he got into the business.
  13. My biggest problem with ROH's first TV show was the constant ads and promos. For as much as people knock TNA, rightfully so, for so little wrestling in their show, Ring of Honor Wrestling wasn't leaps and bounds better. The recap from the Best in the World PPV, the Davey/Eddie recap, and the Lethal clip all could have been jettisoned since none of those wrestlers were on the show.
  14. Honestly, I'm with Ditch on this one. Out of the four categories you mentioned I'd rate them a follows 1. Match reviews and wrestler discussion (Examples: Yearbook threads, HOF discussion) 2. Behind the scenes talk (Examples: Nash not passing a physical, plans for upcoming shows, Punk angle) 3. Gossipy/salacious stuff (Examples: Linda McMahon's campaign, Matt Hardy in rehab, Melina is a psycho) 4. Best/worst stuff (Examples: Jerry Von Kramer threads) But my favorite thing lately, has been the Newsletter recaps. I'm slowly amassing the huge backlog of WON scans that has been making it's way around the interweb, so I'm hoping to get some free time and make a contribution to that area of the board myself.
  15. http://www.rspwfaq.com/2011/09/21/fcw-ftw/ Well Scott has half right. Seth Rollins IS a pretty bad sounding ring name. But it's not TAFKA Tyler Black's real name (it's actually Colby Lopez).
  16. Where to even begin with this one. . . . Look how quick words get out when security is confiscating signs. But a former longtime WWE Diva tries to attend, ticket in hand, and NOBODY seems to notice. Just the fact that she was there should have been INSTANT news. Just the wording makes this reek of someone's bs. What's next, Stephanie suggested that Morrison slap her around to keep her in line?
  17. Unless I'm remembering wrong, Loss, wasn't the only person blaming Henry for Batista's injury Batista? I could almost swear that I read that there wasn't any heat with Vince or managment for the injury happening. Edit: Nope. Bix mentioned that it was in the WON that it wasn't Henry's fault and the company wasn't blaming him. http://prowrestlingonly.com/index.php?showtopic=5134
  18. Also the same guy who proclaimed that Gordy slamming the cage door on Kerry's head (you know, the angle that set WCCW on fire) was a horrible booking idea.

  20. The two things I gained a new appreciation for in the couple of months I recapped AWA on ESPN Classic for 411 were Boris Zhukov as a worker and Stan Hansen's crazy promos. I've actually never seen his most famous one besides the short clip on the WWE AWA DVD "I'm not in it for the women. . . . ." My favorite one is somewhat ironic, given how he lost the title. He'd had some kinda non finish with Blackwell, and basically dared Bockwinkel to show up in Denver the next night.
  21. Totally. Kobashi/Ki (Team NOAH) vs. Joe/Lethal (Team ROH) makes the most sense to me. Homcide was feuding with Colt Cabana at the time anyway, so they coulda found something to do with Homicide there, or just stick him in Lethal's place in the useless four corner survival that has to be on every ROH show.
  22. Wasn't there an "I can't see shit" chant? Might have been a different match or show. "This is awesome" had just gotten popular in TNA, and Gabe made a post more or less telling people to chant "ROH" and not chants used in other feds. I remember thinking that was beyond douchey, trying to tell the fans what they should and shouldn't be chanting.
  23. I really don't recall much from 10/2. Of course I haven't seen it since it first became available. All I really remember is being annoyed that Joe was teaming up with Ki, after he'd been feuding with 'Cide and Rottweilers all year. It seemed more obvious to put Joe with Lethal and put Kobashi with 'Cide or Ki. Gabe's response was that Joe and Ki were "honoring" Kobashi by teaming up. Yes, because Kobashi's dream partner was one of Joe's most hated rivals. . . . .
  24. I don't think Verne had anyone in '84 that could even hope to be a viable counter to the Hogan/Vince combo. Later on, he had Slaughter and then Snuka who may have been able to help. I think it'd be more accurate to say that the AWA ultimately died because Verne didn't have the right tools to effectively compete with Vince. But it's certainly not because he was still living in 1973. I can only assume folks have that impression because of things like Baron/Crusher winning the tag titles (which itself was only to hand them to the Road Warriors) and Bock's '86 title win, and Bock was still damn good in the ring.
