What do you expect from GAYbe, he is a Heyman blower and Heyman/Tod Gordon took ECW right under from Gilbert so it's par for the course.
-
Rock is angling to get more involved with WWE so who knows. His movie career is certainly unspectacular right now.
-
Well the thing with Damon is that he had to shave off his hair and beard to join the Yankees thus making him just another guy on that team. Damon's caveman gimmick was his appeal with the common man Red Sox.

Okay describe this Cubeta thing to me with Jackson.

I think Brody would've come in around 89-90 if he had lived but not for a Wrestlemania run as like John said his name wasn't big enough for that but I could see a Summerslam match maybe with Hogan. Savage was the definite plan for WM V, Sarge was a no brainer for WM VII but regarding WM VI wasn't the original idea to be Hogan vs. Mike Tyson. Mike was going to be the special ref for SNME in February but he lost to Buster Douglas who took his place and I think that Tyson being the ref was going to be the beginning of a big angle.

Dude it's all pro wrestling you know that.

The post UFC show was classic. Bryan was over the top using pro wrestling logic for future UFC matchups and Dave had the great line regarding Mir not getting the next match with Lesnar.
-
Could you imagine the WON's if the Hagler/Leonard feud was going on today.
-
John, go back and listen to Dave talk about this on the Wednesday show. He calls the Kameda's the Japanese Von Erich's and how this is total pro wrestling psychology. He basically said this was all angle driven and what not.

Yeah I forgot he came back to do his jobs. -
Dave seems to confuse "My Readers Interest In MMA Coverage" with "MMA = Pro Wrestling". Is anyone suggesting that Dave stop covering MMA? I mean, other than way back in the day when people like Scherer thought he shouldn't cover MMA? I cringe when I see Dave covering Boxing, and while I may have in the past (though I don't recall doing it) and may in the future joke about it, I certainly wouldn't tell Dave that he shouldn't cover Boxing in the WON if he feels like it. On the MMA side, it's likely that pretty much everyone has accepted Dave covers it. Long ago. "Last decade" long ago. I actually enjoy the coverage, even if I don't agree with him on all things MMA. Where Dave is confused: We can still think he should cover MMA, and actually like his MMA coverage, while at the same time think he's nuts to constantly run with the "MMA = Pro Wrestling" and "MMA Like Pro Wrestling" theme. Criticism of the Part doesn't always mean that we think the Whole is worthless. One wishes Dave wouldn't always be so defensive and come across as thinking it's a house of cards: if we don't by one card, his whole house falls. I don't think MMA is Pro Wrestling. I don't watch MMA every month through Pro Wrestling Eyes, anymore than I watched the Steelers-Broncos on MNF through Pro Wrestling Eyes. But I do think the WON should keep covering MMA. It's a useful addition to the $$$ I fork over every week for it, especially considering how little I get out of the normal weekly Pro Wrestling coverage. Call it a "value added" part of the WON, and these days it's a decent amount of the value. John Amen, Dave covers MMA as good as anyone and that pisses off some people because he covers it too well and not defending his time to other subjects like lucha, Japan. and US indies but that's their problem. MMA is hot right now and Dave who has been covering MMA forever is well equipped to do his job. It's just the pro wrestling theory is flawed and he has lately used that theory for other sports as well such as boxing and football.

The History of the World Heavyweight Championship

Gang was in World Class, Brad went to Crockett right after he got back from the Summer tour. Here is what I've seen and this isn't a complete list although I can get one when I have time. Blackwell, Windham, Rotundo, Race, Gang, Tiger Jeet, Gordy, DiBiase, Mil, Brad, Hansen, Ole, Russians, Rheingans, Funks, Martel, Zenk, & Magee. -
Loss is totally right there with everything he said and until they manipulate finishes to their favor it isn't pro wrestling. Just that simple. One of my favorite Meltz/Chico talking points regarding the MMA = pro wrestling deal is when they rip fighters for not being great promos or not knowing how to "do business" outside the ring such as Rashad Evans wanting to fight actual contenders instead of a bigger name. Why even have contender rankings then if they don't matter.

Ole Anderson, Krusher Khruschev, Ivan & Nikita, & Brad Armstrong all got tours that year and regularly might not have been the best word but definitely more guys than normal. -

Yeah I didn't mean Magnum winning at the Bash but right after it which the plan was for Starrcade. Morton was very credible at that time and drew bigger houses with Flair in some towns than Dusty so a 1 week reign like Dusty had wouldn't have been the worst thing. Another thing about the JCP/AJPW situation in 1986 was that Crockett sent talent regularly and then at the end of the year you had Baba bring his boys for their vacation to Crockett towns so the blood must not have been as bad as we think. Regarding the Flair bit and walking out, I think that Flair's cause was helped because of how big a tool Jim Herd was. -
The Mike Coughlin rant on the site right now regarding Fedor is magnificentally insane. He comes off as such a UFC apologist it's not even funny.

I don't know John, they had Ricky Morton so hot as a babyface along with Magnum that any of those two could've been champs over Dusty but since Dusty was booking and Crockett was his biggest fan everyone knew the deal. -

It wasn't Flair blowing them off himself perse it was Crockett wanting to keep Flair in the NWA areas that were still left to defend such as Florida, Continental, Portland, & Central States because he could do a couple of shots then come back for Crockett's big house shows. -
That cage match on RAW was the beginning IMO.

The History of the World Heavyweight Championship

Yeah but Lawler would always get screwy wins and Bock basically only won clean in the matches for the Southern Heavyweight Title. Dusty in Japan was complete politics because he was an Inoki guy and Baba had a stronghold on the Japanese bookings for the champion. -

If anyone ever does a Dusty In Florida set, there's a lot more to hit on. The whole King of the Ring nonsense to get Dusty a win over the NWA Champ. Dusty in Florida was every bit as abusive to the NWA Title as Fritz was in Texas. John Would you throw Lawler & the AWA title in that list as well. -

My favorite Dusty in Florida angle regarding the NWA title was a promo he cut after the Last Tango in Tampa in 1980 where they went to a 60:00 draw with Dusty winning the 1st fall and the 2nd fall went to a draw but Harley kept the title. Dusty then said that he would never wrestle Harley for the title again until he could defeat him in a match. How awesome is it that the #1 contender won't wrestle for the title until the champion can prove that he can beat him. -
The only NoCal results I have from 79-80 was mainly the PNW talent shows and shows without Murdoch. I'm telling you that reading a lot of reports sent in by others, there is a lot of people that were bashing Murdoch for clowning hence the belief that this was so.
-
I just found this one. Terry Gordy vs. Dick Murdoch (8/11/87) = San Jose, California Murdoch holds Gordy in a headlock for 8 minutes of a 10 minute match and got a DUD rating.
-
Dave really railed on Murdoch's performances working for JCP in 87-88 in the WON's but a lot of that stuff was based on the reports that was sent in to him which he never saw personally.
