  1. The split in 1979 killed the town for years because of how bad it exposed the business
  2. That was from the era where they tried running Knoxville....they did it twice that year once with their own guys and the 2nd with the guys from Memphis.

Wyatt is getting Taker at Mania obviously so either a non-finish or a pin was coming for Bryan.
  4. Georgia before the expansion in 1980 Sunday = Marietta Monday = Augusta Tuesday = Macon Wednesday = Columbus Thursday = Rome or Albany Friday = Atlanta Saturday = Griffin or Carrollton
  5. This is my wheelhouse.....real quick here is Florida Sunday = Orlando Monday = West Palm Beach Tuesday = Tampa Wednesday = Miami Thursday = Jacksonville Friday = Spot shows Saturday = Lakeland or Sarasota, St. Petersburg once a month Ocala would run different nights every month or so.....Hollywood or Sunrise would take Miami's place at times, then you had spot shows like Daytona Beach, Fort Myers, etc.
  6. Southwest in 1984 had some wild lineups
  7. People of color are huge boxing fans and it has always amazed me how MMA never tried to really market to that fanbase, I had one person in the MMA business tell me years ago that there were front office people who thought that it wouldn't help to market to them because they couldn't pay for the ticket prices.
  8. Race played a huge role in the MMA boom among a lot of the fans.....I knew guys who flat out told me that they preferred MMA over boxing because there weren't any "thugs" in MMA like there were in boxing. One of my boys who is black went to the UFC show at Phillips Arena in the ATL and said that it seemed like a KKK rally because it was so white
  9. The announcing was god awful in that match. Cage is definitely effective in his role but where does Big Ryck fit in
  10. The 4-way from last night was better than Aztec Warfare......
  11. I still know fans in their 20's that are pissed because the Network isn't on "real TV"

Definitely on Bryan.....they dig Ambrose & Rusev but Wyatt is not over.....one guy's girlfriend quit watching because of him because she said he was too demonic

So then he must be doing good? I think part of the problem is folks forgetting heels are (or at least were) supposed to be unlikable, and when someone does that now it's seen as a turnoff. I think it's another log for the idea that the Attitude Era killed wrestling by making it so all heels have to be cool. Maybe but there is a difference between having real heat or channel changing heat. Some of these guys also think Roman Reigns is the best thing going right now.

My casual fan friends hate Seth as they think he is a total douchebag who just won't quit talking.
  15. The Lucha Rumble wasn't even as good as I thought it would be....it was really good but I was hoping for a grand slam....
  16. Yeah he smartened up on that one
  17. I think the Sayama & Shinma books also had some influence in that as well because when the business got exposed in Japan that was a big deal.
  18. What's funny about Dave and NJPW is that 10 years ago there were NJPW fans who basically begged him to watch it but he barely did and always put the promotion down while praising NOAH funny how the tide has turned in that regard. New Japan's hotness has to be taken into relative terms as they are definitely hot among the internet circles but in Japan they are still behind where they were even 10 years ago. It also has helped NJPW that their competition has shit the bed completely all the way around and Dragon Gate is the #2 defacto promotion in a lot of people's eyes in Japan right now. NJPW should run an old style G1 schedule to see just how hot they are because the fact that you are having G1 shows at Korakuen Hall would've made the 2004 version of me die in laughter. Compare the schedules and yes the 2004 numbers are claimed Yeah you get more shows in 2014 but the fact that they used to run Sumo Hall on 3 straight nights and either sell it out or almost sell it out and now they have to run Korakuen and other smaller buildings is smart for their business model but shows that they still have a ways to go before getting to 2004 levels which at that time was considered a failure.
  19. He's a SoCal guy been in that gimmick for a while now
  20. Stigma & Gran Guerrero are related to the right people (Stigma to Black Cat & Panico and GG is Ultimo Guerrero's brother) Polvora isn't very good, Angel de Oro is inconsistent, & Niebla was brought over for his gimmick only,

I think it would have to be the kids decision.....Trips & Steph have been very careful about their kids not being on TV other than the ringside seats for the Steph match at Summerslam

What about Foley in 2000 or Teddy Long on Smackdown? Yeah but a McMahon was always around in a prominent on-air role somewhere

Charles mentioned decision makers getting heat.....the last time one of the decision makers wasn't an on-air heel personality was 1997 as well. That is crazy....we are at over 17 years straight of having the heel owner/general manager gimmick run the show.
