  1. Pretty much and at that time when they were working Arena Mexico you had Santo, Felino, and the Super Astros guys working there to so you had WCW vs. WWF at times.

The thing is if you have Austin work Mania next year....I don't know which heel on the roster is actually worthy enough of facing him since their pushes all pretty much stink these days. Rollins has been protected the strongest and even he has his issues.
  3. WCW worked with Promo Azteca after Konnan took all his guys with him to start that promotion so the AAA deal with them was over hence why they started with WWF and when Promo Azteca folded up guys just went wherever.

Cena didn't need to beat Rock......he was already a made man

And it has to be done right you can't just throw him in willy nilly against someone without a hot angle behind it.

This is the kind of comment I hate and shows a real lack of reality to me, no offense Nobody wants to see Austin come back and have his first match in over a decade at WM and lose. Maybe you do, but you'd be in a tiny, tiny minority Who do you propose he should "put over" by losing? God that would suck and be such a shortsighted waste of time. You don't bring back a LEGEND like Austin for one more match and beat him, lol. I'm so glad you're not booking WWE You are supposed to use legends to put over young guys to make them stars....it's business....the problem with wrestling the past couple of decades are not enough legends have done that hence the rub is never there. Honestly do you think if Austin worked Punk at Mania a couple of years ago that he would've wanted to go over Punk....no way....Punk should've and would've went over.
  7. The Finlay stuff from SMASH was fun

    Masa Saito

The closest he ever came to being the top guy in a promotion was in Southeastern in 1981 but even then you could argue that Jimmy Golden was the top heel.
  9. I see what they were trying to do but it was blahhhhhhhhhhh
  10. Gotta chime in here with this from Meltz

  12. He was back at home in Durango on vacation working cards in the area
  13. Wrestlers were in love with him because he was legitimate and it also helped his case that he was a darling of Meltz's

    Ron Garvin

Dylan hit everything on Garvin with his post. Regarding what Parv asked about....Garvin's series with Jake for the National TV Title produced some extremely good matches plus he had nominated matches with Zbyszko, Les Thornton, Iron Sheik, & Buzz Sawyer. Garvin was so huge in Knoxville in the late 70's that he was one of the very few that got to slam Andre
  16. Holy God the Impact spoilers are hilarious...
  17. Jake vs. Brad Armstrong (4/16/85) Jake vs. DiBiase (7/22/85) Jake vs. DiBiase (7/2885) Jake vs. Humongous (11/29/85) Jake vs. Slater (1/1/86) Jake vs. Slater (1/24/86) Jake vs. Taylor (2/11/86) Jake vs. Slater (2/14/86) Jake vs. Slater (2/28/86) That was the good shit in Mid-South and gives you an idea of how great Jake was working in high level singles matches. The series with Slater in Houston in Jan-Feb 1986 was fucking amazing.
  18. Kerry is a lot like John Cena to me in that when it counted and the match was big then he could go with anyone in the business. It's a shame that he had the wreck and the drug issues because man he could've been even better as he got older although you gotta give him a shit ton of credit for still being pretty damn good with a prosthesis.

    Ted DiBiase

Ted DiBiase has one of the greatest babyface turns of all-time in 1985 and I fucking loved the babyface run after that in 1986 which his AJPW tours hurt his momentum though because instead of being the guy who should be the UWF Champ he was going back and forth and wasn't able to be depended on with the strap. The best part about DiBiase in that run was that even though he turned face he didn't altar his style as he still worked the same and then when he broke out the black glove it was treated like OH FUCK shit is going down. One of the biggest mistakes ever made was JCP not giving DiBiase the money he wanted when they bought out UWF and made him UWF champ leading the UWF charges but we all know how that ended up. MDM was a tremendous gimmick and had one of the greatest themes all-time but I always longed for black glove DiBiase.

    Steve Corino

Steve Corino working in Memphis in 1988 would've been fantastic.

    Lex Luger

Luger got smarter as he got older which is what you want from guys that lose a step athletically. 1989 Luger was amazing and 1988 and 1990 was pretty damn good too but I really think leaving WCW at the time he left the company in 1992 really hurt his career. Sure he had the Lex Express run in WWF but he was never really the same again.

    Michael Hayes

Michael Hayes the babyface is one of my favorite characters in wrestling....his work in GCW in 81-82 was so fucking good. Hayes changed his physique in 1988 and he was reborn in the ring after a nondescript 1987. I really dug the 1989 version of the Freebirds but when they started breaking out the mascara and they lived that gimmick outside the ring too because I saw Michael & Jimmy at Spencer's Gifts in Southlake Mall in 1990 and they were wearing the full makeup and I couldn't help but laugh my ass off. I'm like Dylan in that he definitely has a shot to make the bottom of my list.

    Dick Murdoch

Let's be honest guys the real shining moment of this thread is that my Nina Hartley line has been reborn. Murdoch is one of my all-time favorites because he lived his gimmick to the tee and when it came to delivering when it counted he did it in spades. Of course we know all the criticism of him working house show matches but I don't really care about that because he is far from the only one to have off nights. Another great trait Murdoch had was that he was just as effective as a babyface or a heel. Murdoch's matches with Reed & DiBiase in 1985 were so fucking great. I'm not going to rank Murdoch as high as Will is but he is a definite on my list and also the WON HOF.
  24. Kurt Angle definitely made it in because of work at the time he made it in.

    Nick Bockwinkel

Bock was 53 in 1987. Makes his performances that year even more impressive, IMO. For as much as Bock was the high-end AWA mainstay for a large part of his career, he did travel around to defend the title more than any AWA Champ before him. Not a ton of it is available on video (I'd kill for a tape of some of is Georgia defenses, for example), but there is a body of work there that should somewhat offset that concern. Thanks I knew 43 didn't sound right when I was typing it and yes I wish the GCW stuff was on tape especially the angle with Solie
