  1. I agree, but that's kind of my point. If you only took the best of Sting or Nash they'd look pretty good too. We know they failed because we've been able to look into their careers in a significant way. But, when compared to their peers and for their era, you can still find serious highspots for both. Is that what we've done for Koloff? From what I can tell he worked consistently in a variety of places. Lots of guys did. For most Hall of Fame level talents each stop is home to a memorable feud or run. If Koloff had those moments, it hasn't survived to become a part of wrestling lore. Was Koloff a card filler for the most part instead? It feels that way to me. Is that wrong? I think someone could do that. Where is Chris? What did Koloff draw against the WWE aces? How does that compare to others, both in the same calendar year and on similar dates during the rest of the decade?
  2. I just don't find Koloff's case compelling. John has kindly listed 10 matches over the course of a decade, against opponents who generally did amazing box office no matter who was across the ring from them. If you cherry picked the ten most important moments of Sting's career, or even Nash's career, they'd be equally impressive. Is this really a Hall of Fame case? Opponent for Sammartino and Backlund? In the parlance of Football Outsiders, what's his VORJ? Value over Replacement Jobber? What would have changed for the WWWF if someone else had filled those spots?
  3. Sixty percent of voters who vote in that region or timeframe. For example, I won't vote in the Mexican category because I don't have the knowledge to do so. But that isn't the same as a negative vote. Me not voting for Atlantis doesn't penalize him. I suspect plenty of the other voters aren't so scrupulous and vote where they probably shouldn't.
  4. Well, when you're the Washington Generals, at some point losing stops stinging so much.
  5. Bastien is a guy who everyone talks about reverentially. Even the shooters. I don't know enough to make a compelling case one way or another. I was to interview him for Shooters but he was too far gone. I may try to look into it if I have time.
  6. I think the Red Bastiens of the 80's, 90's and 2000's are in. So it's an interesting conundrum.
  7. An interview is definitely a dance. That would be a tough one, but likely do-able.
  8. Just got my ballot in too. Really torn this year. I've been thinking a lot about Red Bastien. He'd likely be in if he'd wrestled in the video tape era based on his work and his rep. Is it fair to penalize the great workers of the past while stockpiling guys from the 1980s and beyond simply because we never saw them in their primes?

    Current WWE

Except it doesn't. Besides when it does. It may have sounded awkward, but she obviously was saying that they've been friends for 12 years. No. You kind of lose any semblance of an effective voice when you are an apologist for literally everything that happens in a WWE ring. Based on every context clue, she was saying that Show was there when she was growing up. Now, she was likely remembering legitimate moments with Andre, and the fictional long history between them was supposed to make the moment poignant and emotional. There's nothing at all to suggest she meant "friends for 12 years," which is also wrong. All of this is fine....it's a story after all. It's just funny, because it suggests that either Stephanie is much younger or Show much older than they actually are.
  10. Or one of you could make a new dropbox! If we do delete, let's do it in strict chronological fashion. We can always reupload on request.....
  11. A million times this. He doesn't have to turn into Professor Austin or message board Austin. But there's a way for peers to push peers that makes the whole experience even that much more fun. Sometimes Marc Maron, for example, strikes the balance nicely.
  12. I need to arrange a deal where I "buy" a company using that same company's future revenue as the source of payment. Pretty sweet deal!
  13. Of course he did. Everything I've ever read said that Vince had to make payments to his old man or else the deal would die. If you know better, please fill me in. I'm not being a dick here, that's the story I've always known. Vince McMahon Sr died in May, 1984.
  14. Of course he did.
  15. Nah, what Austin does generally in those situations is just move on rather than be a dick and argue. It's part of why he's such a great host. That's why he's a great host? Because of letting inaccuracies slide? I've heard his podcast. There's nothing there that would make me suspect he would have any idea whether Flair was in Puerto Rico that night. That's true of 99% of the people who will ever interview Flair.
  16. I love it that a wrestler bullshitting his clueless host is a "sign that his brain is going" and not the sign that he's, you know, a pro wrestler, liar and scumbag.
  17. By the way, I had this interview set up for Bix but he had to go and Bix it up....
  18. You say that with such derision. Pretty funny. If you're not a mark, what the hell are you watching wrestling for?

  20. FWIW, if something like this ever did seriously get going, I have most of the 70's Apter mags that I would look at contributing to the project as well. I think you could hire people to do much of the grunt work. I would contribute $100 or so to such a project...

  22. They definitely took their foot off the gas. But they are still winning their midcard battles at this point. It's a settling in period.
  23. I have set up a dropbox for this. We could do it in pieces. Maybe upload the complete run of interviews from a few of the guys and then after a week trade them out? dropbox.com username [email protected] (I know, I know!) pw: pwo57talk
  24. I've eaten with Dave several times too. So take that Williams!
