  1. As bad as this is, I actually think this is the wrong call. There were probably people who bought this PPV expecting RoboCop to mix it up with the heels, and his name was all over the advertising of the show as "The Return of RoboCop." As lame as it likely would have been, his participation on this show does feel pretty light considering what they advertised, and surely somebody could have taken a bump for RoboCop. I mean, Arn Anderson has a success rate of coming off the top rope of approximately 0%, you're going to tell me he would have looked ridiculous bumping for a movie character?
  2. Man, this was really good until the Horsemen showed up at ringside, then it turns into a giant clusterfuck. Sting and El Gigante (what happened to RoboCop?) chase the Horsemen away, then somehow Ole goes from being chased by Sting and El Gigante to finagling the controls to the cage in like 13 seconds, and getting it up for Barry Windham to slide in for a bullshit DQ finish. Arn gets into the cage and they're tripling on Luger until somehow they get the cage open. El Gigante, who scared the Horsemen from ringside not 2 minutes ago, just kind of stands around and doesn't do anything while the Horsemen walk right by him and Sting makes the save. The finish both sucks and blows, but if it had set up a Luger/Windham feud of former partners over the US title, in a program that would have seemed fresh since their last feud was 2 years ago, I could at least see it, but by the Bash, Luger is working with Mean Mark, so this just reeks of "We don't want to beat Lex again, since that would kill him, but this is supposed to be a cage match, so we can't DQ, so...fuck it, let's just rip off the fans and drop Luger vs the Horsemen even though it's a hot program." Oh, and whether it's over working this match while injured or because of the finish or what, Luger looks like he'd rather be anywhere else, audibly telling the camera man to "get the fuck out of the way." Which, you'd think he'd be smart enough not to curse at the guy whose job it is to make sure he's seen on camera in front of a large audience, but I guess that's just why folks didn't really warm up to Lex too much. Flair and Luger both seem pissed at the camera guy in the ring during their prematch stuff too, so maybe they just don't like the camera guy.
  3. Sloppy match, but a fun one anyway, as everybody is hitting each other hard and laying their shit in. The Steiners come out with matching "we are losing the World tag team titles, and we are NOT happy about this" looks on their faces, but work hard in spite of that. Both members of Doom appear to be way too gassed up here, and I think that might be part of the reason for the sloppiness, but Butch Reed is still a hell of a worker.
  4. I did think it was weird that Ricky Morton was beating up Jimmy Garvin with a cat o nine tails. Since this is only shown in clip form, just wanted to mention how much of a breath of fresh air Bob Caudle is on commentary. He and Ross have an easy charisma together. Was he only doing PPVs at this point? WCW seems to have a lot of announcer depth if Bob Caudle is only doing PPVs. They have Ross, Caudle, Schiavone, Lance Russell, I think the Chrispy Cruiser might still be around at this point...and that's not to mention the good color guys they have, like Cornette, Paul E, Hayes, and Funk if he's still around (I want to say at this point he might be gone). Say what you will about WCW in 1990, but for the most part, their shows are well-wrestled and have great commentary.
  5. Funny segment. Weird that they have Cornette out there with JYD when I can't imagine they were going to be doing a program together, but Cornette puts this over like a champ and JYD comes out of it looking like a player.
  6. I think the best thing you can say about this segment is that the crowd does not completely shit all over it, even though they really should, since it's embarrassingly bad. Jim Ross having to sell Sting and RoboCop as being friends is pretty funny, though, since you know he had to hate every minute of it, even moreso than Solie.
  7. Man, the thing I took away from this most of all is that Brian Pillman did a great job selling for the hot tag and getting the crowd fired up, and then Zeaman's work off the hot tag is so lethargic, the crowd is dead almost immediately. I've generally not minded Zenk much on the Yearbook, but his work here is subpar at best. But Pillman and Eaton are working for 4 men by themselves, so this is a really good match. I didn't even notice Lane loading up his boot at first and thought this was a Zenk burial since he lost to the MX clean with Cornette stuck in the cage, but since the announcers failed to point it out, it might as well have been a burial, even if that wasn't the intent.
  8. You have to love Dave Meltzer.
  9. The Horsemen are fired up. Ole says that the Horsemen have never allowed Ric Flair to lose the NWA World title, which isn't exactly accurate, but he says it with enough conviction to where you're willing to forgive a minor factual error.
  10. I don't regularly watch WWE TV anymore (which is kind of a shame, as they have things I like these days, such as long Paul Heyman monologues and Dutch Mantel, all they need to do is bring back the Dirty White Boy and then they will really be targeting the pivotal Chris Wilcox demographic) but I've really thought about buying the PPV tonight. I don't think I will since I don't think I can justify spending $45 on a PPV to watch by myself, but at the very least, the lineup looks really good and might be something I check out a few months down the line.
  11. Good lord. I think the only accurate statement in that paragraph is that Buddy Rogers was a tanned, blond heel.
  12. As a man of Lithuanian descent, I am praying that Chikara doesn't introduce some bullshit Lithuanian gimmick to form a trios team with the Latvian and the Estonian.
  13. Good promo out of Austin, again looking like a good star. The content of Jeannie's promo was good, but I wasn't always buying the delivery. That said, I suspect there was a lot of truth in what she was saying about Chris Adams not being a Gentleman.
  14. I need to see this alleged boot throw. John Tatum is 6'3" and Bill Dundee is like 5'3". There's no way if Bill Dundee wound up with the boot that there was any intention by Tessa for Tatum to catch it. John Tatum is a pretty believable abusive boyfriend and all around douchebag here. Dundee kind of gives away that he's going to bleed by wearing white. Nice angle and I'm looking forward to watching this progress.
  15. This is the distant cousin to "four flat tires." Gary Young does a remarkably poor job at covering his tracks here.
  16. Good promo from Borne, and another small step towards teasing a heel turn for Percy Pringle.
  17. Kerry does a great job conveying anger towards Matt Borne. I think when cutting an angry promo, it's not necessarily important to be coherent, since the main goal is to show that you're upset, and when people are upset, they don't think about what they say, they trip over their words, and they don't always make sense. Unfortunately, even during his regular promos, Kerry doesn't think about what he is saying, trips over his words, and doesn't make sense, but there is at least palpable anger in what he's saying. And they are definitely teasing the hell out of a Percy Pringle heel turn, perhaps during the lumberjack match.
  18. I am thoroughly disappointed that Sid is not cutting promos on RoboCop while wearing his tux. Fail, WCW.
  19. Man, literally every figure cited here is just completely wrong. This is as full of shit a segment as you'll ever see. I wonder how Tod Gordon got involved with this? Was he sponsoring Goodhart shows at this point? And how obviously fake was their cheering on cue during the Royal Rumble?
  20. I thought Kerry's promo was fine. The content wasn't great, but Kerry is fired up and wants a piece of Lawler, and successfully got that across. It won't win any awards, but it does an effective job at setting up the issue for Monday night, and gets things back on track after The Snowman business.
  21. I can't possibly hope to add anything that hasn't already been said, but this has been the highlight of the Yearbook for me so far. Even ahead of Sid cutting a promo on RoboCop while wearing a tuxedo.
  22. I continue to like these segments, while realizing that Rude just isn't going to be the guy they need him to be at this stage.
  23. I agree with Loss, they appear to be laying the foundation for Tugboat to turn on Hogan, but he didn't really get over on that level, so when he did turn, it wound up being on the Bushwhackers instead. After all, every single one of Hogan's friends to this point has turned on him, with the exception of Beefcake.
  24. Was there a rudo turn in here? It felt like Satanico and Dandy were still half-technicos in their match the previous week, whereas they feel like full-blown rudos in this one, Satanico in particular.
