  1. GWE greatest wrestler in ring based on footage. HGWE greatest wrestler in ring not based on footage. That work? I see a lot of hype for the French folks, but then I find out there is like 7 matches on tape of their entire career. That's not enough to really vote for the, but if we separate them out then we are in awesome town of having debates and discussions! El Santo, Hans Schmidt, whoever. I think it's fun and may be more productive. Would love to hear from the @ohtani's jacket and co. who are the heroes of lack of footage wrestlers.
  2. I would think we'd atleast need clips to have an idea of their in ring work. I guess if people wrote about Lincoln's in ring skills he'd count, but I don't know about that. This is the feeling out/planning thread.
  3. Saturday Watch Parties are done for 2021. Starting January 8th they will be back with Chigusa Nagayo and a new time. Moving from 12 PM EST to 5 PM EST.
  4. I would love to vote El Santo or Hans Schmidt for GWE, but I can't do that based on what we have and it being based on footage. Could be a good way to hit that itch.
  5. There seems to be a bunch of wrestlers that people think are really great, but are really lacking full matches on tape. From reading through threads it seems like a lot of people are having to extrapolate on how to rank them into GWE based on limitations of footage. That got me thinking. What if we separate out any candidate that has less than ten/fifteen/twenty or whatever full matches on tape out of GWE 100 list and add a Historical List voting too. Last time we had a separate tag vote, we could do a separate historical vote instead? Maybe people put out a top 25 list for those people with footage issues? Just a thought, but I think it's a neat and fun idea. Thoughts?
  6. This is the best thing to ever happen in wrestling. We are in the heart of the interpromotional wars and Hokuto has beat Kandori, so here we are in the Grand Prix with Kandori's LLPW teammate Yasha Kurenai is out to prove something. We start with Kurenai walking up to Hokuto and spitting into her face with the hugest spit ever. Hokuto has 0 reaction. The crowd realizes what is about to happen and starts chanting for Hokuto. Kurenai then gets to the middle of the ring and does her pose, Hokuto just has a seat and stares at her. Kurenai then gets a kendo stick and starts attacking Hokuto's leg and then proceeds to do 3 lame choke slams, which Hokuto no sells with Kurenai getting angrier and angrier. Hokuto gets tossed a kendo stick which she immediately throws back, because she doesn't need that shit. A moment later Hokuto hits one of the most vicious Northern Lights Bomb ever for the win. She then yells a lot on the mic and this is the best. 9/10. Wrestling is amazing!

  8. thanks. I'll add these folks at my list to sample.
  9. Oh for sure, I see a lot of people will have him high. Any NJPW people to watch?
  10. No NJPW watched, but a bunch of AEW. No way to Omega, he bores the shit out of me.
  11. Just based on what I've watched so far it's Syuri and Utami ahead of everyone. However, I will do a huge amount of watching to really find out.
  12. The next Maybe Not Taue will be me doing my top 25 list for 2021. The year is almost over, who do you have as the greatest wrestler of 2021?

    Lex Luger

It's the Lex Luger Watch Party this Saturday (December 4th). I think the myth he sucked has died, but I hope we keep dispelling it regardless.

    The Barbarian

How smart he was really surprised me. His offense is very focused on working a body part and the creativity of counters is amazing.
  17. For sure, I'll post it on the weekend when I gather up Tim and mine.
  18. Tim and Steven are back for the 74th Pro-Wrestling Super Show. Six years ago we made top 100 greatest wrestling match lists and now we are back with brand new lists! https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/pwss74
  19. I am still working on my list, but.. I started thinking Bret Hart was the easy choice, but damn the more you watch of El Hijo del Santo from that year the more you are blown away. It's also the year of the NJPW Jrs being fucking awesome! Scott Norton has been a HUGE amazing surprise. Every match in NJPW has him being great, and the little WCW stuff is pretty fun too.
  20. On the Maybe Not Taue podcast I am going through each year and figuring out my top 25 list in order to make my GWE list much easier. I will be recording my 1997 list within the next week or so. Who are the greatest wrestlers of 1997 for you? Who is an under the wire person you want to give some praise. I think a little thread discussing each year and debating them could be fun over time. We'll start with 1997 for now.

    Awesome Kong

CurtainJerker said: " Want to diversity your ballot this time, whether it be race, gender, or style? Kia Stevens is someone who was left off nominations previously. She played the monster heel exceptionally well, and had amazing power moves and awesome top rope spots. Believable, threatening aura. She went all out with total action and could have satisfying complete matches in 10 minutes. Had 800 recorded matches. Japanese cred, in demand in U.S., but never had a successful WWE/AEW run which hurt her recognition. If you are looking at non-joshi women to think about Kong actually is an excellent worker compared to the 2000s WWE's pre-Revolution roster, not to mention the 1990s divas. She ignited the TNA Knockouts division with Gail Kim. Kong was hardcore and took sick bumps, had a great spinning backfist and powerbomb, didn't no sell, and was more agile than the nostalgic 1980s male hosses who racked up votes last time. Worked intergender matches, had babyface runs, and exciting three ways. If you were running a league in the 2000s, who would be better to top the women's division as a heel, champion, and then turn babyface?" Amazing Kong vs. Aja Kong (4/30/2004) A warzone featuring the original and the new version Amazing Kong vs MsChif 4/7/2007 Sickest backbreaker you will ever see, really showcases how dominating Kong is but is also willing to sell. I dare say this fun match would rank in the top 1% of modern day WWE, NXT, and AEW women's matches. Amazing Kong vs Azumi Hyuga 8/26/2007 20-minute epic video game battle/legalized attempted murder. I broke down crying after Azumi got busted open. Awesome Kong vs. Gail Kim 1/10/2008 Sub-10-minute TV match that will leave your jaw dropped [You can watch any Kim vs Kong match BTW, since they perfected Monster vs Underdog] Awesome Kong vs. ODB (9/14/2008) Sick table highspots in a quick 10 minute match with a tough brawler

She's an amazing tag worker - with a particularly stellar tag run with Arisa Nakajima - she's consistently good to great in singles matches, even when working with rookies, and she is really great at elevating her opponents. Offensively she can be a little clunky and slow, but her strong striking along with her creativity more than make up for it - she has this one move which I can only describe as a body scissors hurricanrana roll-up which I had to replay about 10 times the first time I saw it just to understand what just happened. Definitely a contender for best ace in the modern era." kas said: "Lack of footage hurts her but in every match I see from her I come away thinking she was the stand-out performer. She's probably the best offensive wrestler in the world today, with good mat-work, great striking, a varied moveset, and excellent execution (she's a contender for best superkick ever). She's great at changing up her moveset to fit the situation, sometimes going strike heavy and other times emphasising her size and power advantage with big power moves. She's also incredibly selfless and generous, often giving her opponents enough time to shine and bumping big to get them over."
