This is fake right?

Who seeks or understands wrestling this way? If someone is a fan of tag team wrestling and starts looking for Steiners or Road Warriors matches, will they NOT watch the Starrcade match "because it only got 3 stars from Meltzer" or they'll watch it anyway because they were curious enough to find the info they had a match against each other? How is that question relevant? I really don't understand your point. Each person puts their ratings on matches (if they do ratings). Those ratings are a way to compare all the matches they've seen against each other with a quantitative description.

Is TNA the worst wrestling promotion in history?
Grimmas replied to Loss's topic in Megathread archive
For what it's worth, after the next 2 weeks of TV air from Orlando, the July TV, Slammiversary and the following TV for August into September will all be from Canada so hopefully they'll have a real lively crowd there. I didn't even both going and it wasn't really a great location or easily accessible without a car. -
I just wanted to check a reference point. 7) Omega-Okada 5) Flair-Steamboat 3) Steiners-Road Warriors (Starrcade 89) So is Omega-Okada better than Flair-Steamboat to the same level that Flair-Steamboat is better than Steiners-Road Warriors?

Probably a lot more spry in 86 compared to 92.

For me that is easy, it's Steven Universe's multiple episode when Steven wrestles as Tiger Millionaire. The scene where it's a hot day and he buys all the drinks from the concession stand and then spills them to be a heel is fucking awesome.

I have been saying that for a while... LA Park vs Nick Gage is another match I would very much pay to see. My dream match remains LA Park & Pentagon Jr vs The Briscoe Brothers.

Toronto in the summer rules! There is also Toronto Football Club to check out too. Lots and lots to do. There is a lucha company, that occasionally brings in names. Other indies run here too. Let me know if you head to Smash, we can greet and stuff.

And I don't think modern NJPW is a significant deviation from 90s AJPW at all. It's a continuation of the direction the style was going in 2000s NOAH. Current NJPW is far closer to King's Road than it is to 80s/90s strong style. Ok, so it changed in 1981, when I was only 4 months old and there was no internet to house the outrage. Don't see why saying people are annoyed only because it's NJPW.

I don't know if I totally buy a 4 star scale being the original, since movies and shit are 5 stars, but even if true the bar was raised in 1989 to 5 stars. No one was really around to complain back then. To claim it's because it's NJPW doesn't seem to make sense.

Here you go! https://soundcloud.com/prowrestlingonly/wbt9 The Golden Grahams are here to talk the Extreme Elimination Chamber, as requested by Steve J. Rogers at prowrestlingonly.com. We can talk about your match by requesting it there, or @StevenGrahamTWS on twitter. A match that sunk a brand, we talk about the match plus CM Punk, TNA history, politics, and we have a power outage. This show is a clusterfuck, just like this match? FYI, there have been a number of Chamber matches featuring multiple stable/faction members. Twice with Evolution, including one where Batista sacrificed himself so Triple H could retain his title. And Legacy broke up in one where DiBiase turned on Orton. Completely forgot about those.

Angel Azteca, Misterioso, & Volador vs Fishman, Blue Panther, & Mascara Ano 2000 (8/14/92) To be honest I have never seen Fishman before and I had no idea he was a rudo at some point. The match starts with Blue Panther shoot punching Azteca right in the face, holy shit! Rudo beat down on Misteioso has an interesting false hot tag, like we are in the Carolinas. Don't usually see that. Beat down continues on Azteca who gets into the ring and more false tags. A few hope spots, but the fist fall is all rudos, including Panther using a chair on the floor. Tecnicos had no shot. Second fall stats with Azteca faking a foul on Panther, that Tirantes doesn't buy. Rudo beat down continues with Panther ripping up Azteca's mask. Azteca makes a comeback and starts to remove Panther's mask. Do these two have a mask match at some point? If so I need to see it. Looking through results, they don't. That sucks! Misterioso and Fishman have a fun sequence, with Misterioso doing the old skin the cat back in. Of course Ano 2000 nails him with a huge stiff punch again. Volador hits a huge top rope into an armdrag which was awesome, but then missed a dive to the floor. Pace picks up, leading to tecnicos tying up the match. That doesn't stop Panther and Azteca going to WAR on the floor. These two HATE each other. Azteca and Panther continue to brawl and rip masks into the third fall. The match gets less exciting as the partners change up, but gets awesome as it keeps coming back to Azteca and Panther. Misterioso and Volador hit decent double topes, leaving Panther and Azteca alone again. Azteca gets a nice nearfall on an inside cradle and then hits an Asai headbutt for the win. These had moments of awesome, but some slow stuff too. It was really more of a story match to set up the future (which never comes ) ***

I don't know Sabu's current state, but is really broke bum Randy the Ram? The whole thing is, is Sabu happy with his life? If he is, then you can't say it was stupid for him to not do something with the WWE. If he really regrets not having that money and is miserable today, then you may be right. However, I don't think any of us have enough info to make that judgement.

Who said anything about money? I said career longevity. Yes, money (and the more important part here, security) is part of that, but not all of it. It sure as hell beats prostituting himself in high school gyms for $50 a shot like a weathered old gigolo, which is probably what he's doing now. "The Wrestler," anyone? Sabu made his choice, he cared more about something else than money and career longevity. Who are you to tell him he made the wrong choice? Do you know if he's happy or not happy right now with his life? In his KC Breaking Kayfabe interview from a year or so ago he seemed pretty despondent. When asked if he thought he stayed around too ling he said "probably" and in the interview he did in the UK about being offered the WWF role as Sultan he seemed to acknowledge he probably should've taken it in hindsight. I don't think Sabu thinks he can't survive the consequences of his choices but he does certainly seem to be more accepting to admit he shouldn't have made some of the choices he did. Which is completely his right. I just hate the notion that somebody automatically made the wrong choice because they turned dome some money or career opportunity. Everybody has different goals and needs in life. You realize you could use your same logic of "it's fine if it makes them happy" argument to deny getting help for drug users who deny there's a problem, right? Besides that, wrestling, just like boxing and MMA, is a very physically demanding activity that carries with it quite a few consequences that aren't obvious until it's too late. It is a pretty well documented problem that quite a few old timers didn't learn how to manage money and stuck around too long. I don't think I've seen anyone forced to stick around glad that they passed off the opportunity to leave with a truckload of money and their heath, or people who did get out early who regret they didn't get to live like Randy "The Ram" Robinson. Wow, no. Obviously I'm not saying you should do whatever makes you happy even if it's harmful. However, you can be happy without having a lot of money. More money does not mean more happiness.

and what if he didn't want to do it? He should had anyway?

I think it all comes from a place of disappointment, that the top wrestling reporter (or whatever) is essentially Scott Keith. Sorry, but that's the height of pettiness and taking wrestling ratings too seriously. This was the culmination of a series between two guys that Meltzer has praised every single time as building on previous matches. By his account (and many many other fans), this went above and beyond and was the best match of the series. Why wouldn't he call it the greatest match he's ever seen? And why does it matter to you? I can't believe all the hate that builds up here every time Dave loves a New Japan match. He's not an outlier and you're kidding yourself if you think the majority of fans that agree with him are doing so solely to seem as wrestling-smart as he is. You missed my point entirely. First, I don't ratings too seriously. Just a guide to group matches by quality. Second, I have no issue with someone calling a mach the greatest match ever (although doing it right after it happens, without any hindsight, makes you come off as a fool). The issue is NJPW has now produced the greatest match ever like 6 times in the last few years? Every match is the new best match ever. That just seems to come off idiotic. Give it some time. Third, it's pretty stupid to have a system out of 5 and then give things that are above that system. Clearly giving a match a 6 1/4 star rating is a troll job. How can it be taken as anything else? Fourth, I don't hate Dave or anyone else loving NJPW.

I ended up not tweeting this, but this is my thoughts: I am really glad and love that you folks love NJPW as much as you do. However, if you tell me 6 different times in 2 years that you just saw the greatest match in history, I'm not going to believe you. People would have you believe this run of NJPW is the greatest run of any company in history. Even 90's AJPW they were not turning out the new greatest match ever 1-3 times a year.
-
Has Roger Ebert ever gave a movie 6 stars or 6 1/4 stars? Just curious. At this point Dave is just trolling.
-
I forgot to mention that. What a Joey Styles "OH MY GOD!" mind-blowing revelation. And how fucking dumb was Sabu for not embracing that. I get that he probably didn't want to "sell out" and "become a WWE cartoon" but he was getting up there in years. Sometimes you have to know when to make the transition from "badass" to "sports-entertainer." George "The Animal" Steel and The Bushwackers both did it, and it added years to their careers. If what Bruce said is true, then Sabu is a schmuck and a mark for himself. I never get this attitude? We are going to chastise everybody who doesn't do something they don't want to do, because they could had got money? Money isn't everything.

LA Park should be the front runner of Flair/Thesz WON Award if these two matches happen.
