Saturday Night's Main Event Appreciation
Grimmas replied to The Following Contest's topic in Pro Wrestling
These were a little short and on the low end of their series. The answer is probably Savage-Bret from '87. That's certainly what placed highest in the DVDVR WWF poll back in the day. Forgot about that one, yes. That's the best match. -

I was disappointed in their series. I think the Busters-Demolition series is the best on SNME. Overall best match may go to Tito-Perfect though. -
Sano may be wearing really skimpy tights in this one.

If he broke the system with Ciampa & Gargano, less people would complain about him breaking the system (and bitch about the 1989 argument, which indeed reeks of bullshit on Meltz part, but like I said, it really doesn't matter at all in the grand scheme of things because the system is bullshit to begin with). I'm absolutely convinced of this. So, there is no point of discussing this then. You are convinced and there is no way to actually prove your point, so let's move on I guess.

So why make the statements you made? The issue is the going over the 5 stars, it's not him not praising WWE enough.
-
The Memorial First Gong just got bigger as the gentlemen of wrestling are making an appearance. On the card you will see the JWA stand out performer Naoki Sano taking on British superstar "Rollerball" Mark Rocco. A dream match for men's wrestling fans!

You know this is bullshit for the majority of people, right? If he did the same over praising of NJPW, but kept all those matches at 5 stars then nobody would complain about him breaking the system. Come on, people were already complaining about Meltz "overpraising" NJPW way before Omega/Okada cracked the system. Him making stars rain (hey, he's the Starrainmaker !) only made it worst. But the system means nothing to begin with. It's like rating movies, albums, hotels, sex partners, whatever... It's complete bullshit. It means nothing. It's like people crying over not getting the validation of a higher authority. Really, Meltz haters act like disgruntled children who want their daddy to tell them they really are proud of them. And they actually give him and his ratings even more importance by bitching all the time about it. Like I said, major insecurity issues. And as far as NJ (or ROH) announcers using that as a selling point, well, it's pro-wrestling. It bears no more actual value than the old PWI "Best rookie of the year" you'd hear about on NWA TV. Yeah, if that is what you think you don't understand the majority of the reasons people are talking about.

Most of us know Dave's tastes and I know I like what he does, but it's the taking a system out of 5 and increasing it that is ridiculous. Comparing it to the richter scale is insanity.

Seems like it, my dad didn't like wrestling but taped every SNME for me. Used to tape GLOW for my sister before then too. -
Fuck. He called EC3, Mr. 3........ I coudln't handle it.

I'm trying not to rip on Dave as much, but this is the stupidest fucking thing I have ever read. More Dave Meltzer Retweeted Nfinit "30th Anniversary of losing at SF2" Vylence Imagine how they would deal with earthquakes. Nasty tweets all day to the poor seismologists. If average is a 2, how can there be a 7. I don't get it? And if here in New York we've never had a 5, then all you seismologists favor Mexico City because you all like flips.
-
That's a fucking line up. Too bad they couldn't fit Kairi Sane or Bianca Belair on their somewhere. This is going to rule

Done deal.

Rugged means you need the Atrocious Alliance. Dump Matsumoto, Crane Yu, Bull Nakano, and Luna Vachon. Any of those or a team of 3 or 4. Opponents, depends if you want all Japanese or want North Americans. Heck, maybe even a Dump vs Ripper match, so you have Canadian vs Japanese rugged monster vs monster?
-
I just meant they have a huge slew of women whose whole purpose is to wear almost nothing and dance around as the camera man zooms in on their asses.
-
FWIW, you probably don't want to use CMLL as an example of how to do a women's divison. Very true or how to treat women in general.
-
Can you point to it, because I can't find where he said that. I only see him talking about NJPW itself. I might have missed it.
-
I think the hardest part of this project is knowing I have Akira Hokuto, Bull Nakano, Bison Kimura, etc.. as rookies and can't do anything with them yet....
-
It's yours. Let me know what type of match you are looking for, GAEA is quite diverse.
-
Too bad nobody has made that point. They have about NJPW and their treatment of women, but not Japanese wrestling as a whole. I don't know why I keep seeing this strawman being brought up.

Is having three people believe a match is worth voting on really that much of a hurdle? For example if we go with essentially every match is nominated if one person wants it, the list of matches just balloons up to ridiculous levels. Also, at that point, are we now nominating matches we have no intention of voting for just for the sake of getting more nominations? That's kind of my fear/thoughts. Part of the fun of these projects is the discussion and if we are voting for a match that, theoretically, only one person even mentions once, what is the point? I'm completely open for change, but that is my thoughts.
-
On second thought, don't really want to have this argument again. My apologies for bringing it up.
-
I do not buy the argument that the second largest promotion in the world promoting women's wrestling would some how hurt women wrestlers. That's ridiculous. More places for women to work with more exposure is helpful.
-
If they want to be a global promotion (as it seems they do) they don't look very good not having it. I don't see how deathmatch wrestlers and women are anything similar.
