  1. That was a cool moment and actually adds more intrique to Kushida/Omega for me which I had assumed all along that Kushida would win. First half of this show was really lackluster with some dead weight in all of the matches except the opener. The opener was really fun by the way with ReDRagon controlling the action and Komatsu/Tanaka having some good saves and hope spots. I am still unsure whether Kushida/Omega will be any good as their short sequences are good in of their own but Omega will have to work on top for at least a decent portion of the match and I am always leery of that.
  2. At the end, Conrad and Ric both have a bit about the "media" creating an image of someone.
  3. This pod really gave insight to the dynamic of Luger as a whole I think. He could be ONE of the boys but for whatever reason was never accepted as ONE of them. Really interesting insight and something that I am wondering how Sting escaped from.
  4. Interesting angle that doesn't feel too stereotypical of a world champion angle but then again Taz by this point has had lengthy feuds with most of the other main players in ECW so this was fresh and over at least. Cornio is also great in this role and Tajiri as a killer is a nice role for him.
  5. No idea if the fan was a plant or not but this was done in a good shooty way to have a big brawl and set up the match on Sunday while also getting heat on the Dudleys more.
  6. Paul E says they are on TNN and the crowd rejoices. That tune would turn soon enough.
  7. OVW should be happy KAW is around because of the limited stuff we have seen so far, they are the second most least impressive promotion.
  8. Snow's character is something I didn't really find amusing at the time and find even less so now looking back on it.
  9. Damn, awesome stuff on Power Pro with a wild chaotic scene with DWB, Smooth, Hales, Gilbert, and everyone else involved brawling and exchanging words with each other. The slamming of Smooth's head on the table by DWB was nasty.
  10. Kevin Christian is good in this swarmy role and Randy looks like a nervous wreck. The exchange with Doug when he comes out is great too. Lots of interesting stuff happening at Power Pro.
  11. Having the Mafia all be unhinged characters is interesting in that they can all be their own worst enemies at times. It does feel like they jumped the gun with their dissension but it makes sense in the way their characters have been presented.
  12. The best portion was when TM 4 went on the attack but this didn't evolve beyond a good match that didn't have any emergency to it. Disappointing given all the other Japanese indy hidden gems that surrounded 1999. **1/2

  14. Gilbert has the crowd going pretty wild for him and he delivers a good unhinged promo with everyone looking uneasy. The build to this has been well done.
  15. Pretty fun match with Kawada getting his ass beat and resorting to punches, goading Takayama into the ring, and winning on a countout. Different tone from other All Japan stuff. **
  16. Hart goes from being a heel chastising the Southerners vs. Lawler to be a hero for everyone to cheer against Yoko here. Good local vibe and build for the MSG match upcoming.
  17. Really good but I really think Hase should have defeated Mutoh in the final here to really set himself up as a main player. This had some engaging matwork but the escalation that made the previous two matches work so well on top of the matwork got stunted here when Fujinmai won in fairly anticlimactic fashion. Still, a superb week for Hase. ***3/4
  18. Another great match just slightly below the Hashimoto one for me. Hase targets the neck this time and continues to bust out an impressive array of tactics to focus in on that. Chono is right there and hits a great comeback. The dueling STF were well executed and Hase is able to gain another victory and is gaining quite the momentum in this tournament. ****
  19. Excellent match. Super engaging mat work for me that was built around really intricate and expertly applied leg holds. Hashimoto fights through this and is able to gain a nice flurry only to be stunted with Hase gaining the upset in an awesome moment. Hase is a wonderful worker that seems perpetually underrated. I don't think people rank him low but I am unsure of how much play he will get in the Greatest Wrestler Ever voting and he is a strong candidate to make my list. ****1/4
  20. Shorter match than others in this feud but tons of fun as Liger and Tenryu are dicks to each other and Tenryus gestures in general at the end of the match are glorious with him completely dismissing the New Japan duo. I still think in some ways Fujinami being involved this feud has helped him have some relevance in the 90's but I can't help but think it is a step down from Tenryu dealing with Hashimoto and Choshu from earlier in the year. ***1/2
  21. Fun match which is about the best possibility for Savage from 92 onward as I have seen on these yearbooks. Him outsmarting Doink was fine as Savage was presented like a legend here and one upped him. The Macho Midget gag did make me laugh and Doink was good looking flustered overall. **
  22. Really fun segment but the NorthEast crowd didn't seem to get the significance and therefore they didn't react as strongly as you might think to see Heenan and Cornette hugging. A great visual to see.
  23. I'm still on board of the Lex Express and thought this was really strong in bringing likeability and humility to Luger. Perhaps more seeds could have been planted besides him suddenly flying in a helicopter to slam Yokozuna but everything else from that moment has been done well and actually built toward SummerSlam.
  24. I appreciated it for what it was. it wasn't the heated, body control technical classic they could have but it felt like an angle for Main Event and in that regard more consequential than anything that has happened on SmackDown so far this year. A solid encounter and a nice exchange after the fact to get people to turn into the next chapter of the story. **1/2
  25. This is really suffering from where it lands on the disc as we have just seen 4 great promos in a row with really heated feuds and here is Flair, removed from Flair for the Gold, but with not much on his mind overall.
