[1999-04-03-MPPW-TV] Fabulous Ones, Stacy, Jerry Lawler and Bill Dundee
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1999
NIce pull apart brawl and Stacey's outfit in the stuido is even more jarring than the arena clips. I am into this stuff as it feels like a nostalgia angle but everyone still willing to put effort into it. I think the Fabs would be wise to be a little suspicious of Stacy given what she just did to Stasiak. -
Stacey ring attire outfit is something to behold. Gone are the conservative dresses she was sporting in 1998. Kiern looks 80 but Stan still has the goods and him vs. Hayes should go 1 on 1. Clips looked good and it looks like this feud has a lot more to it which is ok with me.

This is interesting and the audience was really in on the moves being presented. I would like to know how Daniels got this gig and we get some good flirting with the female host from both Bret and Christopher.

Wow, this was great. These two are probably my favorite pairing from the NWO era of main eventers at having consistently good matches on tv. This had a big brawl to it and then settled nicely with some good wrestling before the crazy finish. Hogan was working hard and him doing his babyface spots feels like a long time coming and gets the crowd behind him. WCW continues to have a lot of shit that misses but the action inside the ropes is still really good. ****

Really good Nitro style match that harbored back to the early 90's and the Blondes vs. Babyface era. Bobby and Tony are really going after each other here and not in a friendly way. It is uncomfortable to listen to. The double FIP and the break give a good bookend to the entire match and the finish was actually intriguing with Raven and Saturn costing them the belts. ***1/2

Probably the best thing bret ever did in WCW. A great angle that should have led to a money match. I remember marking out huge when the steel plate was revealed and I was a huge Goldberg fan still.

Jericho runs down Canada, it does feel like Vince is booking with the potshots at Canada during this show.

Yeah, this is Sting's return since the Fall when he left to get his house in order. Flair did a great job getting the crowd to turn against him as he was getting some cheers at the onset. DDP's promo was odd and him all of a sudden calling the fans jackoffs makes no sense being the people's champ for the past two years. Hogan comes in a gets some huge accolades and Sting shows up to look onto the proceedings. The star power is there still even if dated, the focus is lost.

It is spring time so that means Nash and Hogan have to have problems with one another. What a mess.

I really don't understand why 1999 produced WCW has gotten so bad and phony. This could have been ok without the odd production choices. DDP as an overprotective, paranoid man makes sense.

Hogan whispers sweet nothings into Torrie's ear and we get to be an onlooker. Lucky us.

[1999-03-28-WWF-Wrestlemania XV] Steve Austin vs The Rock
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1999
I thought this was a great match that was overbooked and had the WWF brawling but it brought an intensity that would be lacking when this would happen for years to come. The finish also was overbooked but a ton of fun and had moments for both guys with the Rock being able to kick out of the stunner even with a delayed count. Mankind coming down and getting his pop was a nice moment and Austin's win followed right by Vince's great facial reaction made for a cluminating and triumphant moment. There arent many of these attitude matches that really hit for me that are worked in this manner but this was one of them. Right off hand, I can think of many last matches on the card Mania matches that are better than this one. 12, 17, 20, 22, 23, 26, and maybe 30. **** -
[1999-03-28-WWF-Wrestlemania XV] The Undertaker vs Big Bossman (Hell in a Cell)
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1999
Poor taste even in the moment. Really just there to give some shock value and terrible action between these two. The highlight was the Brood repelling down. -
[1999-03-28-WWF-Wrestlemania XV] X-Pac vs Shane McMahon
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1999
Double turn is complete as HHH is a Corp member and DX is pretty much done as a relevant unit. Gunn really bumped well on his run in and was a house of fire. I also have to give props to Shanes shirt. -
Chyna and HHH reunite. yes, the crowd did pop but when did Chyna turn exactly? Not like this has been a two or three year long journey. Hell, it hasn't even been 2-3 months.

[1999-03-28-WWF-Wrestlemania XV] Bart Gunn vs Butterbean (Brawl For All)

So long Gorilla, he really looked like a shell of himself here. Bart gets KTFO as we all know in a gif worthy moment. -
[1999-03-28-AJPW-Championship Carnival] Vader vs Mitsuharu Misawa
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1999
I liked the action we got here and it feels short so I may check it and the Kobashi January match in full sometime. I am interested to watch these two throughout the year as going through AJ you kind of have an expectation of longer, epic title matches and they turned around that narrative.- 6 replies

[1999-03-27-MPPW-TV] Interview: Jerry Lawler & Bill Dundee
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1999
Memphis by this point was not going to be a main factor so being a nostalgic promotion that brings something different to the table is fine by me. Good hype for the upcoming tag match. -
This being a Raw main event feels like an odd hot shot by WWF part and really desperate for some reason when they had the war won by this point. Giant didn't look great and Austin seems to be sloppier than usual too but the finish was effective and we get our final sell job for Mania. Good go home show from the main event interest perspective.
