  1. 4 minutes but a lot of action packed in and Santo looked good here. One thing that has been interesting with 1998 is that some of the biggest names of the 1990's (Flair, Hogan, Santo, Hashimoto) have all had periods of not much going on with this set or complete absences. (**)
  2. Sean Stasiak is out and can only talk about himself. He makes and effort to win over Stacy and Smanatha but ends up getting popped for his trouble. Lawler and Dundee continue wrestling in the ring while all of this is going on. Sean grabs the ladies and they put their vendetta aside and team up to beat up Sean. (*1/2)
  3. I loved this promo and wish this is where they had taken the New Jack character all along. This feels so real and vindicated. One of the better things in ECW all year.
  4. Great match here. Fuyuki has become one of my sentimental favorites and had a much better career in my eyes than he gets credit for. Hayabusa did tone down stuff here which made the match better overall and I loved how Fuyuki forced him to work his pace of the match. The finish was deeply dramatic and felt like Fuyuki really weathered the storm to come away with the hard fought victory. (****)
  5. Seriously, Crockett main event isn't something that came to my mind while watching but it is completly spot on. This was a good first time match for these two to make up for their little feud last December when Austin was still banged up. That does honestly feel like ages ago in storyline. When you think in retrospect that Austin vs. Rock headlined Mania 15 months after having a mini feud for the IC belt, it seems so soon that they elevated up. The action here was good and the pace frantic. Both WCW and WWF had good nights tonight. (***)
  6. I loved the Kentucky football helmets the stooges are wearing. They go down into the boiler room searching for Mick. "MICK, we love you" They end up getting beat up for their troubles. Funny.
  7. Sable is still really over at this point which I didn't remember. Shane is now involved with some of the other faces of the company and he confronts Sable here and says she owes everything to his dad.
  8. This was awful and the most tasteless thing of 1998 which is impressive considering the Val Venis shit we have seen this year.
  9. Vince interrupts Bossman and Shamrock and reasons with Shamrock. He gives some solid facts that persuade Ken over. Vince has now built himself a certifiable stable.
  10. Henry is just wanting a date with Chyna and reads a touching poem. This guy is a straight gentleman.
  11. Vince, Shane and the Rock. The gang is all here. Rock does a good job running down the people in a way that wouldn't result in getting cheered here. Vince is so power hungry here that it is again great when he celebrates. Austin comes down and reminds them of Shane saying he would have a rematch the night after Survivor Series for the title. Vince says he is revoking that but Austin was one step ahead and got Judge Mills Lane to rule in his favor. A little hokey and contrived here but we do have a big main event for tonight.
  12. ANother great brawl and they did a good job with the cop out of not having a match with a huge brawl. This was great stuff.
  13. ugh, we get a Monica impersonation and Hogan says nothing of note. Hulk brings out Scott Hall who has some words at Bischoff. Why does Hall have beef here? Anyway, he decks Bischoff and then Hogan attacks him. Nash comes out to run them off but is still not all buddies with Hall. This felt dumb and Hall talking out of his ass.
  14. Bigelow shows up in a hurry backstage and is wreaking havoc throwing stuff around and demanding Goldberg. Gene tries to keep up but is fearful. I did like Bigelow interrupting this match because it gets over the "he isn't hired" gimmick. JJ and Bischoff come down together to assess the situation and try to reason with Bigelow. Goldberg and Bigelow going toe to toe with all of security separating them has a buzz that has been missing for a while. Bischoff tries to fire JJ after all of this but JJ quits. This was tremendous and made me question whether Goldberg vs. Bigelow at Starrcade should have happened.
  15. Weird storyline overall here with Eddy recruiting Rey for the LWO. I think they needed more time from a storyline and match perspective to flesh out things here. Rey still seems to be slowly coming back from the leg injury and still hasn't put together that real good performance in 1998 you think of when thinking of Rey. Eddy holds this one somewhat together but I agree with Charles that it is uneven overall. Rey ends up losing and we get a big celebration from the LWO as Rey is a new member. (**1/2)
  16. Flair keeps bringing the goods even though we are now two months in and not a whole hell of a lot has happened. This time we do get the return of Barry Windham who looks like he has been eating Doritos on his Georgia farm for the past 5 years waiting on this call. I agree that this feels really weak as it isn't like WIndham and Bischoff had a stormy past or anything.
  17. Hogan is still pushing the President thing. I agree that this was odd and with the Warrior stuff an uncertainty at the beginning of the year, this has been a real lost year for Hogan overall.
  18. This is my pick for best tv match in wcw for the year. I have really enjoyed Kidman's progression as the athletic ability was always there and in a really short time he has put together the fundamentals and little things to make the matches more cohesive overall. Very strong period for cruiserweights in WCW. (****)
  19. Nope it is a good time to check in: 1. Kenta Kobashi 2. Kiyoshi Tamura These two guys are neck and neck for my overall 1998 WOTY award and have carried the footage I have watched of it. 3. DDP Another guy getting the 1998 footage rub but I think it is really interesting watching a guy become a star and mold himself into the main event scene without having stop/starts or having a goof briefcase prop. 4. Rusev The guy I am most interested in the WWE currently. Brings such a different dynamic from anyone else they have. 5. Alan Killby OJ piqued my interest and I watched one match the other night that was a ton of fun. I enjoy dipping my toe in these WOS wrestlers.
  20. I think the shoot style and joshi discussions in here show that in a lot of ways it is more of a style preference than a worker one. I have thought about this topic some in the past few days and couldn't come up with an answer. I feel most of the usual suspects will make my list. Sure someone like Owen Hart or Tracy Smothers or Gordy might not but is that really controversial or vastly different from the norm? I am inclined to say no.

  22. Conversly to the Austin vs. Mick match, this was worse as a match than I remembered. I was kind of saddened to see Rock take a more plodding and brawling style after showing some good technical work the past few months. Mick works the crowd over by bumping like a loon including a nasty one from an elbow drop on top of the announce table. The finish is great of course and Russos shining moment. **1/4
  23. I actually thought the match was better than I remembered and pretty spirited brawl with Austin laying it in better than he had lately since Mick was willing to bump. Of course the cornerstone is the ending with Vince being heeled and Shane flipping Austin off to the shock of the crowd. I love the way they skip to the back afterwards. Splendid stuff to watch. (***1/4)
  24. Basic stuff to set up the storyline for the rest of the night. Kind of sad Bossman didn't get that one longish match vs. Austin from around this time. I actually think they could have worked at Judgement Day and then Austin could have refereed. *
  25. Vince gives Duane a great introduction which is hilarious. His expression saying lets get the hell out of here was funny as well. Mick makes quick work of Gill. 1/4*
