  1. I like Foley for certain things and think he has had a bevy of great matches and incredible promos. I get frustrated with his carny aspects and that I feel he gets more of a pass than others from the wrestling circles I'm around. Don't try to market yourself as different and the man of the people when you have the same tendencies as most other people in the industry. Beyond that, foleys style was selfish in that it got himself over but set an impossible bar for anyone behind him to reach.
  2. Austin calls out Vince immediately and wants answers or he will hold up the whole show. Austin promises not to knock Vince's lights out if he obliges. Vince comes out with the riot gear. Austin wants to know who he is fighting at the next PPV and Vince hasn't made up his mind yet. Brisco and Patterson are starting to loom more prominently in the background. Austin gets Vince to basically admit that he is withholding the information of his next opponent. Austin does a great promo talking about Vince not being able to stand the fact about all this stuff on his image. Austin is giving Vince a chance to win the WWF championship match tonight. The crowd pops huge for that. Austin uses Vince's easy way or hard way verbiage against him. He slips up and says the one hand tied behind his back. Vince is showing more swagger asking Austin what the hard way is. Austin is giving Vince 30 minutes and beat up the limo driver and slashed the tires as an insurance policy. Great stuff all around. We are backstage with the deliberation of Vince with Patterson/Brisco and Shane in one of his first appearances as an on air talent. Pat has a lot of confidence in Vince. Vince struts down with an answer for Austin interrupting a jobber match. Vince talks about the heritage of the WWF and runs down the lineage. The WWF has always been about honor and integrity. These are qualities solely lacking in Austin. Vince knows his decision wont sit well with his dad and grandfather but sometimes a mans gotta do what a mans gotta do. Vince will fight Austin in this ring tonight. Vince's oh hell yeah is great here. Patterson and Brisco congratulating him to the back is amazing. JR and Cole to a good job of conveying the seriousness of the situation with JR walking off to ensure this match doesn't happen. Kevin Kelly sends us to a piece of tapes with JR arguing with the McMahon inner circle. Vince demands Shane to go get his bag. JR says he is making the wrong decision. Vince yells at JR to go out and do his job. JR interviews Austin. Austin isn't surprised at all because he was getting an ass beating either way. Austin says it is going to be settled here tonight. Patterson and Brisco teach Vince some wrestling holds to use in a great moment and are pumping him up. Kevin Kelly interviews Vince who admits he has butterflies in his stomach. Vince wasn't afraid of the US govt, Ted Turner, or Time Warner. He sure as hell isn't afraid of Austin. This was build up brilliantly.
  3. This isn't much of an astronaut suit for Val and his co-star.
  4. Sting is fiery in his comeback and uses a dropkick. Savage comes hobbling down right as Sting locks on the Scorpion. With a distraction from Liz, Savage hits Sting with the cast and this gets a great nearfall that was called tremendously by Tony in the booth. Damn, does the Minneapolis crowd plaster the ring with garbage. nash hits a powerbomb but Bret pulls off the referee and we have a brawl between Nash and Bret. The waters are getting way too muddled as multiple feuds are going on with each other. NWO B-team comes down to beat up Bret. Nash delivers another powerbomb to Sting and bails as Bret cleans house of everyone of the NWO. Crowd isn't exactly electric for this because it is tough to understand why.
  5. Decent enough but fairly generic video package leading to Spring Stampede. I do like DDP as a foil for Raven but Raven much like Wyatt now in current WWE has an issue where he has been around for a long time and doesnt seem to have much meaning or purpose.
  6. Goldberg is just so different and fresh with everything. Rock was game to bump like a loon for him and the spots paid off big culminating in the huge spear spot through the table. I am really interested to watch Goldberg rise up the card and see if his mystique is lost. Fun squash. (*1/2)
  7. Bret talks about how he respects Benoit and The Giant but he really respects Sting and if Sting ever needs him, just call Bret. HMMM.
  8. This was the best Sting segment I can remember in a while as he sticks up to Nash and even invites him to use the powerbomb which JJ reluctantly agrees to. This feels like a really big main event again and WCW is more and more fighting for the win on Monday nights instead of building up their PPV's which is a shame.
  9. Piper at this point being any sense of a main player is sad. He looks as dated as Gene in this interview and before the Hogan attacks, it feels like a backstage skit done at WrestleMania for nostalgia purposes. Hogan and Disciple attack and Hogan is really feeling unfocused and spread out at this point with issues with Sting, Nash, Piper, and Savage.
  10. Thanks for the well wishes. I'm aware that the braves were getting a lot of play at this time as worst to first and America's team but Ross was still talking a lot about a pretty non consequential series on a major national show. I can't imagine wwe announcers talking about a random Upcoming Seahawks game in the next few months.
  11. You are taking a page out of your boy Dick Murdoch's book and gaining heat in multiple territories.
  12. It could say something about that match quality of 1998 that this is my #2 match 1/4 of the way through the year. That takes nothing away from this match as it was great and Kobashi seemed particulary inspired to help put Akiyama over but this wasn't presented as much more than a stepping stone type match to be developed within a Champion Carnival tournament. The leg work was great from Akiyama. and Kobashi was gritty and showed restraint to sell the damage and not do too much in his comeback. The 30 minute draw actually snuck up on me. (****1/4)
  13. I have added this podcast to the rotation since you guys joined VOW and enjoy it. I don't generally agree with the opinions presented (mainly Jeff) but that is all in good fun and I appreciate the no-nonsense, action packed nature of the episodes.
  14. I love that Jericho calls him Nakamaki. It could come off as disrespectful but it really makes you want to see Jericho get beat up at every point. Iaukea weighs in at Jericho's demands and gets hit in the head with the scale as a result of his troubles.
  15. Where to begin. The fan drug Raven out which threw the announcers off. Then the microphone doesn't work which throws Raven off even more. Then the crowd decides to do the tomahawk chant.Yeah, this was a disaster.
  16. Seems like a weird feud for DX to enter. Anyway, DX wins and then destroys and lays out DOA with some sick chairshots afterwards. XPAC has been named by this point.
  17. Val is hyping up his latest flick and coming soon for the ladies. This does look dated now but I see how it worked for a bit at the time.
  18. Iconic segment again with these two with Austin in a suit taking photos and Vince being the proud papa. I thought the nutshot Austin gives was great to savor up the moment when vince would get another stunner. King on commentary interacting with JR has gotten to become their best pairing and they are playing off each other tremendously. We don't know who Austin is facing at the PPV at this point and that really doesn't matter.
  19. This was an amazing promo where Cactus comes off as justified in everything he says and yet positions himself to have a major role in the ongoings upcoming. I had forgotten about this and was wondering if the Dude Love transformation came out of left field. I am relieved to say this was the perfect setup. Where WCW is dropping the ball on the little things, WWF is picking it up in spades. Notice the lingering long shot up the entrance ramp of Jack leaving. One of my favorite things from the yearbook so far.
  20. DX takes a whiz on DOA's bikes after being triple dogged dared by HHH. Super.
  21. Vince is strutting and promises a new and improved Stone Cold tonight or he is giving out refunds. Cant argue with that.
  22. Big time match for Nitro. K-Dawg has assumed the Hall role as Nash's #2 guy. I also thought Nash sold the leg well during the match and this should have been a PPV encounter. Hogan runs out and starts putting the boots to Sting right as it looks like Nash has him for the taking. Nashi gets angered by this and they start going at it. Piper runs down and starts fending people off including giving the worst eye poke in history to K-Dawg. The show ends with NWO members having to get between Nash and Hogan from going after each other.
  23. Jericho gives a shout out to Dean and then turns his attention to Prince Maukawaka? I have been pleasantly surprised with how well Jericho has carried what on paper looks like a complete throwaway feud with Iaukea.
  24. It can seem nitpicky but little things like this promo still having the NWO music were showing how WCW was gradually losing their step at this point and becoming more and more unfocused and meticulous.
  25. We cut to an earlier clip of the the attack on Savage and a red and yellow Viper speeds away. We also see the Disciple and Vincent lingering around talking about how this was NWO business. HOgan comes out with the B-teamers and I really think this is where the NWO became comedic in a way. Besides Big Poppa Pump, no one feels important in this entourage including mainstays like Hennig and Rude. They are just guys out there in an heel faction just because. Hogan keeps hyping the PPV but the issue seems much more heated vs. Nash at this point.
