Agreed that it was one too many times to the well for this match. Savage tries to justify why the match needs to happen in this promo but it doesn't work even though the crowd live is jacked as could be.

Yeah, this had certain phrases by Bret that were able to rile up the crowd but damn was this a mess overall and Savage vs. Bret wrestling should have felt a lot more special than it does heading into the PPV.

Give me some turnip greens and fried chicken and let me watch this shit on a loop. I adored this match so much as it hit all the things I look for in a tag match. Babyfaces being plucky and flashy and heels being scuzzy as ever and really working over the faces when given the opportunity. The dives by Helms had a great height and impact on them and the finish was so rewarding as evidenced by the crowd going crazy. One of the best southern tags of the decade. (****1/4)

Disappointing week for Austin as this was probably the worst two show stretch for him in forever. I did love the interviews of Hansen and Laprade and Hebert and would be split on those as my shows of the week. The HHH interview with Jericho was also good and breezy but didn't break a lot of new ground which holds it back slightly for me. I didn't really dig the stream of consiousness aspect of the latest MLW show as Konnan rambling on non- wrestling topics isn't my forte.

First off, ditto what everyone said about Austin on commentary. Second, this match shows to me how lacking the NAO still are in the ring as this has the intensity, violence, and plotting that the dumpster match should have had at Mania. The spots all looked good and the pace was well done as the sprawled across the building in a logical way leading them back to the ring for the conclusion. Speaking of the conclusion, the use of Patterson was great again with him getting the mandible claw and Vince doing some of the best dance moves I have ever seen and making Mick his man vs. Austin. Wonderful way to close out Raw. (***1/2)

One of the better examples of a shoot promo happening and a conceivable way where we can get some confidential information without the people involved in the conversation being aware that we are all hearing it. Lawler's apology afterwards makes this even better.

Man, did I love this. I have hated the Love Shack gimmick and was pleased to see Mick Foley come out. Vince one upped him by doing the best devil on your shoulder promo I can think of in wrestling. i legit thought about being in Mick's shoes and feeling the same way he did after hearing this. Austin gets his showcase spot tearing up the Love Shack set while Vince pitches a fit. If this doesn't hook you for the entire show, I don't know what can.

This was atrocious. Rick says he wants to straighten things out. Scott turned on him 3 months ago, he hasn't figured this out yet? Scott seems sympathetic and Rick is the most gullible human alive before Brian Adams comes out and attacks Rick with Scott's crutches. Dumb as shit.

I'm liking DDP getting some revenge of the Raven sneak attack on the Total Request Live show. This has been a good angle to keep DDP busy with something and build heat on Raven and I assume the blow off is right around the corner. I also was amused at the random explosions as one of those glaring "wrestling is fake" moments.

Screw these people, this was brillant and subtely puts over Malenko's strengths as a worker. I thought it was really smart of the announcers to keep referring to the legacy of Boris Malenko. The heat for Dean's return keeps being built up and Jericho kickingg out of his own pinfall attempt against him was hilarious. (*)

Promos are a troubling gauge for me because of the language barrior. Someone like Flair and Kobashi are pretty even work wise for me on the surface but since I dont speak Japanese and think Flair is great at promos, he would have to be ahead correct? Seems like an unfair mark against foreign stars as if that is part of the equation my top 10 would be all US guys.

We get the official Red and Black colors. Confession, I went to Panama City this summer and got a Wolfpac airbrushed hat called the Wolfpac Special. There is still no rhyme and reason why Konnan and Curt Hennig decide to join Nash other than to just do it. Nash is trying to look cooler by the week. Generic promo that culminates in a Kdawg vs. Brian Adams and Luger vs. Nash matches tonight.

Douglas is all sorts of bandaged up and he is not above hyperbole as he says he is the greatest champion of all time and will have the match of a lifetime later. Keep on believeing in yourself brah. I find it humorous how ECW had a promo segment to sell a PPV without that match on it. Taz and Douglas again square off and it is apparent that the company sees this as the biggest money match they have but it just hasnt come together at all.

I'm loving this longish matches on Power Pro as they are a ton of fun. Christopher starts this out working out BJT balls with a chain and the ropes. Stretcher matches are never my favorite stip but I liked this one with the rope tieing better than carrying people to the back. BJT has a great flurry of punches to escape the loss at one point. Christopher wins just in the nick of tv time and bedlam breaks with Tracy Smothers and Paul Diamond coming out to attack Christopher and Spellbinder. Nice moment at the very end with BJT getting a guitar shot in. (**1/2)

There are some matches that I know I like more than almost anyone else and this has been one of them. It was when I first watched it as the 4th puro match I had ever seen in 2001 and it still rang true this morning. The plight of Kawada gaining the Tirple Crown win over Misawa seems like a natural reason for my affection, but that has very little to do with it in the overall scheme. I appreciate the length of this. At 28 minutes, it didn't feel unecessairly long and worked hand in hand their 30 minute draw a little over a month earlier. Speaking of which, this match took the concepts laid out in that match and amped them up. The kickouts here were appropriate and not excessive. Kawada does go to the same well he has before but Misawa just doesn't have enough in him to come back this time. That doesn't mean Misawa didnt dry his damndest. I loved his stoic selling throughout this. Misawa isn't backing down and fires back with his elbow as bravely as he can, but you get the sense that after the first high kick, Misawa realizes he doesn't have it in him anymore. This plays off beautifully his struggles and triumph from the Carnival in 1998; Retrospect is almost tragic in a way as this wouldd have been a brillant swan song for Misawa in the 6/8/90 Jumbo vein where he has a few more glory years and then fades away on his own accord. We know that didn't happen to be the case but this match and performance was fitting for a Dome performance. (****1/2)

Action looked pretty fun to me and it felt like a good way to build up Kobashi for the Triple Crown defense giving him a win over an aging Hansen. Hansen was certainly winding down by this point but was still able to use his charisma to overcome his shortcomings in certain aspects (dive from the top). I thought Vader mixed in well and especially threw around Ace well. By the way, Ace is someone I am not ready to call good but damn was he in a lot of good matches and he didn't bring the down in a way you might think on the surface. Pretty nice Dome card overall with this and Hase/Akiyama on the undercard.

[1998-04-30-FMW-Fighting Creation] Hayabusa vs Mr Gannosuke
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in April 1998
I side more with childs here. Gannosuke was game and had some cool key moments but Hayabusa was not really worried at selling the arm work and that made the finishing stretch a lot less dramatic than it should have been. Disappointing given the atmosphere and how game Gannosuke was. (***1/4) -
[1998-04-29-Pillman Memorial Show] Steve Austin promo / 10 Bell Salute

This was a classy tribute for someone Austin clearly respected. -
I see the slow build here but damn does Bret still feel lost and now randy has a huge problem with him. Bret still wasn't able to explain himself
