Good to hear the thread is continuing Goc. A lof of this stuff is foreign to me besides the absolute iconic stuff ("Need to talk to Tom", The Bullet). Reading this gives me a clear sense of what to look forward to whenever I get there in Alabama wrestling viewing.

We get the iconic Baddest Man on the Planet intro from Vince for Tyson. Tyson gets a lot of boos from Cleveland. They are still pushing the animosity between Tyson and Austin. Vince calls for respect and gets bood. DX music starts up and Shawn dressed up for this altercation. Shawn has some words for Tyson and looks to go head to head with him. Instead, he tears off Tyson's Raw shrit and we have the newest member of DX. Tyson of course gives some of the worst crotch chops in history.

[1998-03-02-WCW-Nitro] Music Video: Diamond Dallas Page
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1998
Stuck Mojo video in the ring. One of the members looks like a Godwin brother. The Flock including Reese with blonde hair play a prominent role in this video. DDP comes in and takes out the Flock in the bridge of the song. This feels really established for the Flock to be a part of and kind of defeats their motive.- 4 replies

[1998-03-02-WCW-Nitro] Randy Savage: Real Man of the Year
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1998
Clip of Savage in black and white winning a man of the year trophy. Weird that this had the NWO music to it as it feels dated given recent developments.- 5 replies

[1998-03-01-ECW-Living Dangerously] Bam Bam Bigelow vs Taz
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1998
i appreciated the pace of this as we didn't get any meandering around in the early going and stuck straight to the meant where these two guys threw bombs at each other. stuff looked good like Taz being dumped to the outside, Bam Bam's clothesline and the T-Bone suplex from the ramp to the crowd in an especially nasty bump. Bigelow comes back inside the ring and hits a messy moonsault for a nearfall. Some more tables get set up. Bam Bam goes for a powerbomb but Taz is able to deadlift Bam Bam up and drop him face first into the table. They go to the outside area and have some fairly inspired brawling and this would have been a better match overall with some time shaved. Taz locks on the tazmission and they both go through the ring in a bump that did get over big with the crowd. Bam Bam pulls Taz out of the wreckage and pins him. I first thought this match had a bad rap on the net because I liked a lot that was done in the first half but the second half screeched to a halt. We then get the frantic Paul E saying the Al Snow match is canceled. Heyman says a Sandman vs. Sabu match will happen whether they get canceled or not. (**1/2)- 7 replies

[1998-03-01-ECW-Living Dangerously] Tommy Dreamer vs Justin Credible
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in March 1998
This feud is a pile of shit. Justin hits the That's Incredible but out comes Beulah. Beulah acts like she is with Justin but hits him in the balls. This of course brings in Jason and he gets a DDT. Bass puts her in the bearhug and nearly loses her shirt in the process. Mikey Whipwreck, injured leg and all, gives her the whiplash and Dreamer hits the DDT on Credible to win the match. Joey loses his shit on commentary but this is pretty dreadful stuff to me.- 5 replies

One of the weirder Budakon shows of the 90's All Japan run with this match and the Ace vs. Misawa TC match. Action here doesn't look very inspiring as Doc looks pretty past the point of relevance. Albright was feisty at least throwing around Kawada. Big time kick by Kawada to Albright gets him the win pretty much out of nowhere. There was some good in the month of February like every month watching footage will have, but overall I'm hopeful this will be the low point of the year as the match quality was down across the board and nothing seemed to click of a super level like the Hart vs Flair feud and the matches in January.

Steiner already has dyed his hair. Bischoff calls out Sting and promises if he comes out they will leave. Sting stops in front of the ring and all but Hogan file out of the ring. Sting Hall comes out and attacks Sting with a baseball bat. Sting gets laid out and they spraypaint NWO. Savage comes in to help out and gets beatdown by the NWO. Bobby calls him the most dangerous wrestler in the world today. Christ here is the Disciple. TOO MANY NWO MEMBERS! Luger is able to clear the ring with a chair but NWO has their heat back after SuperBrawl.

[1998-02-23-WWF-Raw] Steve Austin's Road To Wrestlemania
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
We see Rose's groundbreaking hit record and here him talking about being at WrestleMania. We then get a joke about his average being .303 and Austin 3:16. Not very funny. The Austin video that airs next is much better showing the vitriol. We get some clips from Austin talking about bischoff rejecting him two years ago. Awesome job showing the rampage and how much of an anti-authority figure he is. I can't get over how good they have hyped up this match. -
Dustin has the Dusty lisp down pretty well. We get old clips of Dusty from 1990. American Dream fires up and here comes Stardust. The dance moves are spot on again. Bradshaw comes out looking young and who would think 16 years, Dustin is still wrestling high profile matches and Bradshaw is a retired commenter. Dust tires to the bionic elbow but it has no effect. He grabs the microphone as says he is the only Texan in here. Bradshaw lights him up back inside with some big chops and a cowboy boot to the face. Stardust starts jiving but runs into a clothesline from hell and Bradshaw picks up the victory. Fun to watch. (*1/2)

Big interview with mainly Billy and Road Dogg. Road Dogg has a camera and says the LOD are no more and this is the new age. This was in the aftermath of shaving Hawk. The NAO get into their car and look to get away. Meanwhile Chainsaw Charlie tries to cut into the car with the chainsaw and Jack busts the window with a bat. The outlaws have to speed away.

DX is hanging out again at Shawn's house bar. Chyna is chatting it up with a blonde lady at the bar. DX says they will be at raw next Monday night so the final drive towards Mania should start then. HBK has some words for Austin and HHH stamps Mania as X-Rated.

[1998-02-22-WCW-Superbrawl VIII] Hulk Hogan vs Sting
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
We cut to Hogan getting a belly to back suplex and a nearfall. Patrick has taken over officiating duties for this one. Just based on these clips, the match doesn't look as bad as the one at Starrcade. Hogan has some complaints at the count Patrick is giving. Hogan gets a cheapshot in on Sting and pounds away at him. Sting makes his comeback and has the crowd buzzing at his Stinger splash and death drop. Patrick gets wiped out on that and here comes the NWO B-squad. Savage comes in and bonks Hogan on the back of the head. Sting covers him and wins the championship. Can this guy win the title completely clean or not. Sting spray paints WCW on Hogan as the announcers laugh.- 8 replies

We cut to Rick in between Scott's legs and the turn happens. Crowd erupts at this and Scott suplexs Rick and decks Dibiase. Rhodes posts Dibiase and we have a new NWO member. That is now three new members (Dusty, Adams, and Scott) in around 3 weeks. Rick actually kicks out of the first pinfall attempt. Rick gets a flurry but gets clubbed by Nash. Hall botches the first attempt at an Outsiders Edge but hits the second one and The Outsiders reclaim the tag straps.

[1998-02-22-WCW-Superbrawl VIII] DDP vs Chris Benoit
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
Really liked the slapping of hands to begin this showing they were still both going to do whatever it took to win this match. Good chain wrestling results in Page hitting a front suplex over his leg. Benoit returns the favor hitting Page on the top rope. Early diamond cutter attempt has Benoit bailing. There is a certain caution the early going of this match that makes everything have an added emphasis to it. Match breaks down a bit with a flurry of punches before we get a wheelbarrow suplex by DDP. Benoit is able to take over and locks on a sleeper to bring the match down. Benoit brings the match down but does interesting thing in between to keep interest. Benoit takes a nasty spill to the outside and then a superplex leaves us at a standstill. Slugfest and clothesline has DDP on top getting some boos actually. Benoit locks in the crossface but DDP is able to reach the ropes. The german suplex gets a great nearfall where DDP kicks out at the last minute. DDP reaches down and hits a ddt and both guys are spent. Benoit flips out of a pin attempts and right into a diamond cutter for the pin. Two great Benoit matches so far on PPV in 1998. This was one of the better face vs. face matches of the 90's in the US and felt like a potential starter match into what will be a feud over the world title in the next two years or so. Jericho is ramping up his douchey look with the ponytail and beard. He refuses to take off the belt and wrestles the first portion with it on. Juvy kicks him in the belt and now he relinquishes it. Juvy nearly botches a top rope hurricanrana. Jericho tries to get counted out in a funny move but it doesnt really sell the damage well. Luckily, Juvy gives him a stiff elbow drop. Really nice spot where Jericho gets stun gunned on the guardrail. Tenay gets over the history of Juvy's mask and brings up Fuerza. Jericho has taken over the body of this match and is able to counter any offense Juvy tries. Air Juvy was performed well and we are all square heading into the finishing sequence. Juvy driver and 450 get a three count but Jericho had his arm on the bottom rope. Juvy is confused at this and Jericho takes out the leg. After some more nearfalls, Jericho is able to lock in the liontamer and Juvy taps. Afterwards, Jericho berates him during the unmasking. This should have been built up more but makes Jericho look like a big threat. Still, this felt like pieces of a great match that tried to come together but never did completely. (***1/4)

I like Martel playing the heel role here and Booker is over big. Booker had control until he takes a nasty spill to the outside and martel takes full advantage of. Booker makes his comeback quickly with the leg kick and Martel shows off his resourcefulness with a powerslam. Martel puts on the crab which is a great false finish given him winning the belt on Monday with that. Crowd really pops when Booker reaches the ropes. Flying forearm gives Booker an opening the he needs. Booker misses a crossboyd and Martel catches a big kick from the top rope and we have a new tv champion. Good swan song match for Martel to go out on. (***) Saturn attacks immediately and locks on the rings of saturn and pinning combinations. Saturn sends Booker into the railing. Booker gets a glimmer of hope send Saturn into the railing. Saturn in a nice move, shakes that off and continues to attack. I have really enjoyed Saturn in this match taking certain risks and inflicting damage on himself in order to gain the overwhelming advantage on Booker. Booker is finally able to get something going as he avoids a superplex. Booker then delivers one of most impactful looking missile dropkicks to the face that you will ever see. Spin wheel kick has the crowd coming around and raising the roof. Saturn hits a T-Bone suplex to take over again. Bobby and Tony bicker with each other as Tenay gives us the sad news about Martel. Nice comeback by Booker but he misses on the Harlem Hangover. After a few moves from Saturn, Booker gets a sidekick to win the match. Lackluster finish that didn't really play up the story but a really good 1-2 punch to start a PPV. (***1/4)

[1998-02-21-ECW-Cyberslam] Justin Credible vs Tommy Dreamer
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
Not too much inspiring action here and a bevy of run-ins and distractions. Nicole Bass comes in and Jason ends up getting choked out with the barbed wire and blood running down his face in a gory visual. Disappointing given the build up of Credible as a main player. -
[1998-02-21-WWF-Raw Saturday Night] Faarooq vs Steve Blackman
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
Blackmon is undefeated at this point. Rock holds up the painting on display and Farooq grabs it and almost uses it as a weapon. Rock grabs that allowing Blackman to roll Farooq up to stay undefeated. Rock and Farooq get into a discussion of the portrait being bent. Farooq punches and destroys the portrait and those are fighting words for The Rock. The beginning of the end of this incarnation of the NOD. (1/2*) -
[1998-02-21-WWF-Raw Saturday Night] The Rock's gift to Faarooq
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
Great promo by The Rock. He first denies tapping out which he did. Rock has gifts for the nation and they play this up perfectly. Henry/DLO/and Kama get rolex watches. Rock has what looks like a piece of artwork for Farooq. JR hypothesizes that it is some rare art. It ends up being a big photo of The Rock. Farooq is miffed at this gesture and throws the picture down. -
[1998-02-21-WWF-Raw Saturday Night] Michael Hayes and Kane
soup23 replied to Loss's topic in February 1998
I don't remember this at all. We get a lot of clips of Hayes from WCCW and they start up badstreet USA. They push this as Hayes return to Dallas. Hayes comes out to a nice reception and he still has the strut. Hayes is getting ready to introduce the next match when Kane's music fires up. Hayes attacks Kane with the heel of his cowboy boot and gets chokeslammed at the direction of Paul Bearer. A tombstone to Hayes ends this reunion quickly. You could tell that Bearer loved mugging about his friend Hayes that the freebird was grounded.
