  1. Chono is a boss second and he does a good job here like a great manager of being important to the match without taking away from everything Tenzan accomplishes. I also thought the work around the botch was very fun with groggy Hashimoto coming back with some offense and then the run to the finish. This was a really fun match with Tenzan feeling like a player and it having a big slugfest atmosphere.
  2. This building looks like the one that should be called the igloo. Fun crowd dynamic too with Funk jawing at them from the onset. Pretty fascinating match to watch knowing the crowd dynamic and the way the match was performed. I think this match shows the difference between Funk as a worker and Douglas. I don't hate Douglas as a worker but am also not a fan. Funk is not someone that is a realistic GOAT candidate for me but certainly levels above Shane and it shows here. Funk knew the crowd and the finish and tried to work a match feeding off of that. Douglas refused and it resulted in a fairly fun match still but disappointing given what it could have been. Sabu running out the end and hitting his move given Funk the pinfall victory gave him a stake claim and also let Funk mug it up one more time.
  3. Awesome story Cox. Pretty sure this is Dave Prazak announcing which seems a little odd but it sure sounded just like him. Hat guy is here so this match is legit. I thought the match and Storm in particular was terrible in this match. I didn't understand his strategy at all as Youth was incapacitated and he would dick around and even sent him to the outside in a dumb moment. Even the impressive, indy-rific spots werent performed as cleanly here as in the Surge match earlier. Finishing frog splash from top looked good but Storm kicks out at 1. WTF? Then Youth covers him and wins. This was a mess all around and probably the worst match of substance that will make the 1997 yearbook.
  4. The fans are pissed but from the outside looking in this did look pretty phony overall and the promotion not finding out yet if they are ECW, Memphis, or Global.
  5. Had high hopes for Cham Pain given his sleazy look. First time seeing Omega to so excited about that. I can see how something like this was appealing in 1997 but now after seeing those spots performed better with more rhyme or reason, it does look dated. Hardy also hasn't aged too much in 16 years and the live announcing is so FUCKING annoying. Hoping the other stuff has more structure to it.
  6. - Watch all Royal Rumbles for Voices of Wrestling/PTBN crossover - Finish 1997 Yearbook - Finish 1991 Yearbook - Finish lucha 1980's set - Record at least 25 episodes of WTBBP - Watch one more yearbook - Streamline watching my wrestling and using my time more wisely to hit highlights (days of watching all of Raw are probably over) - at end of year watch around 100 top pimped matches from the year to make a top 10
  7. Got the new Goldust shirt last night. Pretty excited about that.
  8. Parv being wrong about a masked gimmick????? say what.
  9. Thanks you Peter for the clarification.
  10. Had to cleanse the taste of this show out of my mouth by watching some great lucha this morning.
  11. What would be the overall you have for New Japan heading into 2014? Do you think its improbable they will eclipse their 2013 and are ok with that because of how high you rate this year or do you think it is possible they could even have room for growth in certain areas?
  12. Highlight of pod is Pete's WHATTTT? at Parv talking about Gorilla actually putting over one of the guys by saying he didn't hook the leg.

    Current WWE

Secretly I would say Bray Wyatt leading into a brainwashed Jericho character that could be kind of fun as a skeezy 80's metal, gothic character. I would say more likely would be one of the Shield members if he is a face or someone like Big E if he comes back as a heel.

Where does Brock fit in here? vs. Rock or as back up vs. Reigns?
  15. I would say for every 10 males I know, at least 3 carry pocket knives.

  17. He has a quick little spirited brawl with Abby in Puerto Rico that I enjoyed a good bit. I guess just from the glimpses in Corckett, I thought he could have **** matches in him when given the opportunity as he was good with some less than stellar competition. The footage I saw didn't really back that up.
  18. Ha ha Al has become kind of a running joke of WTBBP fans. I will say that I think his WCW stuff is largely decent to good including the actual in -ring match of him under the hood as the Black Scorpion. I decided to seek out some of his other stuff in World Class and Puerto Rico as a result and was less than impressed. I come away thinking that Al could have been a good worker and had the tools to be but wasn't willing to put the work in to achieve that.
  19. PTBN has reached 1000 posts and celebrates this by creating a page with all of our audio conducted with Kevin Kelly. Come relive his years in WWF and catch up on the latest going-ons in ROH. Kevin will also be on the PTB podcast tonight discussing the first half of 2001.
  20. I already messaged Pete about this as soon as I heard but the popsicle analogy for Sandy Barr has to be one of the more ridiculous commentary lines in wrestling history. Wondering what other matches Pete would throw into the upper echelon along with the first Martel vs. Rose match? I will admit I still mark out for battle royals. I know the Royal Rumble is the best use of the concept but even a battle royal on smackdown around once a year gets me really excited to watch to that show. I think it may result from playing figures as a kid, having this elaborate card all mapped out, and then at some point saying fuck it and just jamming everyone into the ring until Hogan would win.
  21. So if reading correctly, we are thinking of watching all of the Rumble matches and recording reviews of each Rumble match?
  22. I would say Watts in his day looks at least as "athletic" as current day Matt Stafford and Eli Manning.
