Quick super-ignorant question: Was watching the beginning of a 1991 match b/t El Dandy and Satanico. I am not lucha-literate yet, and I am not sure which guy was which. They both had thick dark hair and similar builds. One: no shirt, and all white tights Other: Black singlet and black tights with fire (or other red design) on legs Does that help tell them apart? I am guessing Satanico was the black with fire, but it was unclear.

Probably about the time they put him with MVP, who sucks the heat out of any push.

Since we're off about Henry now, I thought I would put my comment from another forum about who I like better, Mark Henry or Davey Richards:

Seriously? I'm getting a "If one of the wrestlers walks past you in a crowded space, her ass or boobs MIGHT brush up against you!" vibe. It's true. After SHIMMER tapings, which happen 2 or 3 times a year, they always adjourn to a local bar. The objective, of course, is to get to hang with your favorite gals. Daffney or Rain and their tits, any one? It seemed like a big deal back in 2008 when I went, but it seems pretty silly now now that I took a bunch of time away from that scene . And truthfully, it's pretty damned creepy at times. slamminladies.com, anyone?

What the fuck is that idiot talking about? I've watched a helluva lot of chick rasslin, and it's the sort of thing that fans say about it. The truth is, it's just indy wrestling. Some of them are decent, and some of them suck. Many of the women wrestlers are accessible to their fans via twitter, FB, and even after-show parties (SHIMMER makes a big deal out of it). But is that so odd for most indies? Logical and less offensive? I don't know that that means. Women's promotions run a lot fewer shows, so angles get dragged out for months and even years (in the case of Alison Danger v Portia Perez, which started before AD even got pregnant and continued after her return). It's just indy wrestling, for all that means. But with lots and lots of tits and ass.

Professional Wrestling Intellectual. Seriously? Seriously? And while I respect what he's trying to say about indy wrestling and chick rasslin, it all smacks as just what kjh says -- your WWE fan friends need to be converted. Uggh.

Where's that one? On NMB? I'd love to read it. I don't think so - it must be on F4W or someplace. Having a great time reading Loss's reviews of the 80's WWF set, though. Reminds me of when I first discovered the IWC in late 2007 or so and spent many hours reading jdw (I think?) on the 80's WWF over at TOA.
-
Back to NMB fun: Will and Loss fighting about whether Savage/Steamboat at WM is awesome or just okay at best is some great reading. Loss: "it's barely on the same planet as Savage/Warrior." Will: "You're right. It isnt on the same planet. The Steamboat match is much better. " Anything on the interwebs is permanent. . .

Now that's a show I would have watched.

Nice, thx. I never really got a good enough look at anyone but Hayes (and of course BamBam, but he's easy to spot). Did they bring those guys in for the movie? It's so weird to think of the Freebirds doing NYC in the 80's, but it sure seemed like a real show that the movie scenes were just filmed around. Really, it was just a couple of shots of Lambert in the crowd, I guess.

It's amazing to me the difference between 87 and 88 for WWF - just superb wrestling in 87. SurvSeries is outstanding, and there's a lot of good in Mania 3.
-
In the same thread, you did say you had mellowed even since writing that post.
-
Agreed. This thread has been one of the more interesting ones on the site since I found y'all back in 2008 or whenever it was. Jesus, that's a long time now. . .

One more comment from NMB for now: There's a guy talking about the DVDVR 80's WWF set. He mentions "JBA vs Gilmore Girls". It took me a moment to figure that one out, and then I laughed out loud.

Randomness: 1. Was playing around in the "Matches" forum and stumbled across links to NMB from 2005. Good stuff there - glad you guys haven't taken those review threads down. It's good reading and always fun to read discussion of matches and shows from when it happened. The specific discussion I started reading - and will finish later - is a massive one on JBL/Eddie from JD 04. 2. My brother and I were watching the original HIGHLANDER movie the other night, and it opens with that MSG match between the Freebirds and ?? One guy was Samoan, I think. Anyway, my brother is not a rasslin fan. He said, "Wow, that's back when they let you wrestle just for being big." He was referring to the physiques on guys like Terry and PS, as compared to someone like Cena today. Interesting. PS - Damn, LOSS was so passionate. #awesome

Well, it's nice to see Rude and Bock on there, anyway. And I am surprised that Kurt made it, considering that I imagine Vince must hate him.

The PWG shows I attended in 2008 were full of the kind of pasty, overweight, dorks (like me) that you see on ECW tapes. Hardcore indy rasslin fans with snarky comments and obsessive behavior. It was a lot of fun, but the comparison to Trek fans is not so far off. Turning Point was pretty awful. I did actually find myself getting excited about the 3D/Guns match as it went on. I had a lot of fun watching that one, though I don't much care for the Dudleys and only sometimes enjoy the Guns. The ruined it by constantly talking about the end of the 3D dynasty and all. But the match itself made me smile -- I especially liked the use of the table at the end. And sloppy though it all was, it was kind of fun seeing Mickie and Victoria brawl for so long (but WHY, oh why did they have them come back out during Pope's interview? were we supposed to think they had been brawling backstage all that time?). Did Dreamer really fuck up his wrist? It looked pretty nasty.

Most negative in existence, eh? This guy has clearly never been to a Star Trek or Dr Who forum. . . It's for the best -- if I had t see one more word from him about how awesome Davey Richards is, I would likely have gone off to review Korean films myself. This thread kicks ass. I have loved reading it.

I have enjoyed those, too, silly as they were. The Crush vignette where he's "live via satellite" from a Hawaii beach teasing about how nice the weather is -- and then he crushes a coconut. Too awesome. I like that they included some special features, too. On the first disc is Bret doing the Mean Joe Green thing with a little kid backstage. And then an awesome one about how a guy stops having sex with his hot wife when he realizes what time it is -- then he sits up and turns on RAW. Awesome.
-
Wow, Bret in the ring. Paul Bearer on SD! This is a good week for feel-good fandemonium. Bret looks like he's having a great time in there.
-
This looks really, really nice. I like that we're getting two Pillman matches -- and 1992 WCW can never be too heavily represented. Between this one and the Steamboat set, there's 2 matches from 1992.

I think you called it here. I watched a few minutes last night, and I saw an absolutely atrocious Hogan promo. In the audience were signs saying things like "Hogan Who"? It was Hogan's promo about how great Beefcake is and introducing Jimmy Hart as their manager. [anyone else not able to think clearly about Jimmy these days? All I hear when I see footage of him is him chanting "Wrestlicious!"] Anyway, the promo was aimed at little kids, of which there were about 4 in the audience. I am not the biggest Hogan fan, though I definitely can appreciate the guy's work. But this one was definitely embarrassing. I happened to have also watched WCW Main Event from Aug 94 just before it -- that promo was shameful, too. 1993-94 was absolutely a terrible time for Hogan, it would seem. 1996 can't come fast enough. Also, what in the world were they thinking with the Elvis character? I know it sounds like I am bitching, but I am actually really enjoying this DVD. The ring action is pretty good. And I am definitely looking forward to Michaels, Waltman, more Bret, and some of the other stuff that I know is coming up. I shut it off to go to sleep last night just as Perfect/Martel was coming on -- I would guess that's a solid match. And I might be the only person left who kinda likes Yokozuna. But it is fun to nitpick.

Just started watching it last night. The VQ is terrific. Some random thoughts: 1. Jesus, that guy with McMahon is terrible. I get it - he's trying to be the snarky jerkface heel announcer that Heenan would do so beautifully for Nitro. But he's so obnoxious. Vince and Macho ignore him half the time. I hope he's gone soon. 2. Listening to Macho on commentary: I am constantly amazed at how perfect Jay Lethal's impression of Savage's voice comes through - word choice, inflection, pacing, all of it. 3. The Flair/Perfect match was pretty good. But it was all Curt. Flair really did seem to be going through the motions, hitting his tired spots at all the right places. Curt wrestled his ass off and made quite a match of it. However, Ric's over-the-rope, run-the-apron, and come-off-the-top spot was pretty awesome. He ran that apron crazy fast. 4. Luger got almost ZERO response from the crowd.

hey, gang, I may be going through some of the really old Matches posts -- especially the ones for a specific year -- a Bumping them with new comments/reviews. Some of them go back 5 years, but that section is so quiet. Hope it's cool. Obviously, I want to try to add something worthwhile -- but even if no one's reading them, I shall still get to practice.
