    Foley mentioned this on Stern in 99 or so. He was jealous that Marc negotiated himself that fat contract and that Rena Mero was the most talentless person to ever make a million dollars. The Foleys and Meros were actually friends in WCW and held parties/functions together

    http://www.wrestlingrecall.blogspot.com/ some tidbits from the former WWE writer's blog (JohnasHimself) -the Bellas/Bryan triangle storyline was the Bellas idea and they ran with it -the word "sex" is not allowed on WWE TV so the angle will be full of innuendo -the writer pitched a similar storyline for Evan Bourne -Vince does not see Morrison as a top guy because he "can't kick anyone's ass" -Vince does not see Bryan as a badass but a wrestler who "capitalizes on other's mistakes" -Vince sees Skip Sheffield as a potential top babyface right behind Cena -he pitched Drew McIntrye as the original attacker of Undertaker -Randy Orton was originally going to win the RAW MITB match but it was switched to Miz -McCool does not get any special privilege for being married to Undertaker that's all that I remember. There's more but all these were pretty interesting Overall, and this is not suprising, it seems Vince is scared to death about pushing new guys. Everything seems to go back to Cena and Orton

    The anonymous GM is getting mostly negative reviews but I'm kind of indifferent. It's a somewhat clever, if not lazy way to set up matches without having to have a GM character shoved down your throat. It's been going on too long though (8 months). They've booked themselves in a corner now because there is no way they can reveal someone and have it make any sense in storyline (the jumping from heel to face, back to heel during the show, does he like Bret Hart or not?) According to Randazzo it was created because Vince hated all the possible GM names creative came up with

    Nash quoting the SNL sketch had us all rolling at the time. That sketch isn't *that* famous so the fact that he brings out this semi obscure reference combined with his facial expresssion and tone just killed us. Nash said in his shoot that it took them hours to shoot these because Hogan kept rambling and rambling and he and Hall wanted to talk in "Sound Bytes"

    I have to admit Bobby comparing Psychosis to Peg Bundy in the opener of Bash at the Beach 96 always gets a laugh out of me. Tenay almost breaks several times trying not to laugh at Bobby's (and Dusty's) jokes. WCW was always a more serious product than the WWF and Bobby seemingly could not adjust save a few instances I guess the same can be said for Cornette not being able to adjust to the WWF style

    just was watching this sketch online a few weeks ago. Same thing entered my mind when I read this story!

    I actually thought RAW was much better this year. Not great but the early stuff with Nexus, the Mania build, and Batista's heel run stick out. Some of the stuff on NXT season 1 wasn't bad either Smackdown was cooled off by the move to SyFy

    Owen tried to cover for Bulldog by saying Lothario pushed him off the top rope! Great ad lib from Owen Davey was obviously off in this match. The spot where they basically ran into each other mid ring and in what must have felt like a half hour stood there looking at each other before they improvised stood out as the worst flub the post match heel beatdown was great and the crowd went crazy for Warrior's save. Felt like a hot program

    Hulk Hogan's mother, Ruth Bollea, passed away She actually made a few appearances on WWF television. In Hogan's post match celebration after beating Iron Sheik she is seen in the locker room and in a great real life moment seems scared to death to be around all the huge wrestlers. She also appeared on SNME at Cyndi Lauper's Mother's Day party

    love this angle and the mini Horseman push that lasted a few weeks after this was real fun. I think they had a bunch of 8 man tags against jobber teams and had dinner and drinks ringside. Used to love Flair flirting with Debra right in front of her husband!

Don't know if this is the same promotion that Dave said Vince got ideas for 80s WWF wackiness and of course the monster was built as real and Andre killed the gimmick by ripping off the mask. Ha!

    I hope so. That's one of the things that made wrestling fun as a kid. My previous statement wasn't an attempt to say credibilty no longer matters. It just never occurs to me to think about that stuff now. I haven't considered that aspect of wrestling in years. But I can definitely see kids being confused now

    To show how much times have changed and how kayfabe is dead when Miz won the title it never occured to me to ponder whether he was "tough enough" or had credibilty. Didn't really enter my mind till this thread

    as for storylines this decade, Jericho v Christian/Trish, HHH v Batista, Rey v Eddy custody angle, Eddy v JBL, and Cena v Umaga stick out to me. Not all of them were great but I remember liking large chunks of all those programs

    I think it was Sean (Liska) who made the point that if WWE only held cards in Dallas, Orlando and Chicago you would think that WWE was just as on fire as it was in 2000. The heat is there sometimes. Just not as much as 2000

    I *think* this is the exact point Kevin Nash was trying to make online a few weeks ago and in his shoot with Waltman. He just couldn't make it without sounding like a jealous douche

    They weren't inflated at the time. It was an example of rising tides lifting all boats to be sure, but you had midcarders and jobbers taking home downsides never before seen (or since, really). A lot of people not at the top got accustomed to boom level guarantees and when those weren't rolling in anymore they decided it was time to move on. right away Trish Stratus and Lita come to mind here. They both got huge downside guarentees with doing very little in the business (plus Lita sold a bunch of merchandise). No doubt business falling was a factor in the quitting pretty early on as they were used to those big payoffs

    the Hayes and Bellomo matches are both really really good. slight tangent. Anyone notice that many AWA matches tended to have the heel beat down the face, face makes comeback, face comeback is quickly cut off, short period of heel dominance, then the "real" babyface comeback and then whatever the finish was. It was an interesting formula and often made AWA matches seem longer than they were. And that's not meant as a criticism and had no idea that Bobby's daughter was used as an extra in several vignettes (obviously she was not acknowledged as such). He calls her a little brat in one of them! Ha!

    It's a copout but I can see both sides of the "WWF limiting big moves" debate. I can totally see the WWF side as if you save the big moves for big moments/shows they obviously mean more and can be promoted as major events in future angles. Plus they are more dramatic. But if you're a fan who loves workrate and highspots than you obviously weren't going to be satisfied. I tend to agree with the WWF side of things but I can totally see the other point

    you know RAW wasn't *that* bad in 1996. There was some silly stufff going on in the undercard and Shawn was miscast as a happy go lucky babyface but there were signs of a more adult themed product that would come to fruition a year later

    Raven told some real funny stories about Kimona trying to recite her lines in these promos. There was one segment where she literally had one word of dialogue and she couldn't pull it off. The Dreamer/Beulah/Kimona angle sure didn't last long

    Loss, is this the same match where Nash drops the famous "I like the Kliq, hell I'm *in* the Kliq" line. I don't think it was those exact words but something very similar
